Brrrrrrr, it's cold in there! On a hot July morning, I really didn't anticipate needing a sweater but maybe I should have brought one. I was running a few minutes early to meet someone. While waiting, I saw two people venture out to their cars in search of another piece of clothing to wear inside. This, on a 90+ degree day. Eek. Other than the freezing AC, I have one other minor complaint. I really have a hard time when the staff comes over eight thousand times to refill my coffee. My cup of joe is a perfectly calibrated combination of coffee, sugar and creamer. Topping it off is complete chaos to my formula and I do not like it. And I don't like having to repeat that six times before my food comes. So now onto the food. I ordered the banana pancakes and they were, I must admit, great. There was roughly a half of a banana cut on top. The pancakes themselves then had slices of banana cooked into them along with some nuts. Overall, it was pretty good and I didn't feel I needed a lot of syrup, which to me is always a good sign. read more

I was only at this location once, by accident...but it was worth the Mokena tour. I ordered online, for the Mozzarella and Parmesan Grilled Cheese on Focaccia... OH MAN! This was one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches of my life. I was in love. The sandwich was huge. The flavors were a magical blend of Italian joy. For no charge, you can sub out the fries and get soup, which was also awesome. I went to pick up my order, and the server was pleasant and welcoming. She made sure to invite me back to return, on purpose, though she apologized for my mistake in ordering online for the wrong location. Apparently this happens somewhat regularly. (Just make sure to click the right address, people. Learn from my mistake!) The interior of the restaurant, itself was really cute and homey. We were definitely not disappointed with the place. The skillet was really good, but I wasn't a fan of the $1 "share" charge me and my girlfriend got for sharing a plate. I've never heard of that in my life. The only reason we decided to eat there was because we weren't that hungry but still wanted a little breakfast. I don't understand why a share charge is necessary. It's not like it took more effort to make or serve. It was still served on one plate like a normal meal. And for that reason, I'm out. The restaurant overall has a wonderful atmosphere and location. It uses its smaller and quaint setting to its advantage in many ways. Primarily you feel a certain level of "small-town" comfort when you enter, especially considering its proximity to the train station and Mokena's downtown area. However, as someone who has frequented the subject matter for many years, the service has progressively gotten less and less sociable and efficient. Primarily, I believe this is the result of the opening of the second restaurant, however, this is a review about this location and not the other. The food tends to be reasonably priced for the setting and it gets the job done. There are a select few menus items that could simply use a pinch more of salt and pepper; however, that is to be expected this type of restaurant. The owner is pleasant: as is a majority of the staff. My biggest surprise is the relative speed and efficiency of the operation considering its smaller size, but the quality has slowly declined in quality over the years. This is also to be expected in the ebbs and flows of a more humble restaurant. When one walks in, you get what you expect, and hopefully that is a quaint, family restaurant, with a strong "small town" feeling. read more

Homemade soups, great sandwiches and a delish Cobb Salad. The building was a train depot and retains the old charm while being bright and spotless. Visited the Eggcetera cafe after purchasing a groupon. The place is quaint and clean. We went on a Friday morning and were seated immediately. The server was friendly and fast. I ordered the cinnamon swirl french toast, a half order of biscuits and gravy, and my husband ordered a skillet. The french toast was delicious, but a bit overpriced for the three little slices that I received. The biscuits and gravy were homemade and delicious. My husband didn't have any complaints about his skillet (but really how can you mess that up?). Not sure we would go here again as we don't go out to breakfast that often but this was decent food with good service. read more

My wife and I have been stopping at EggCetera Cafe in Mokena for quite sometime now. It's an adorable little mom and pop place right in downtown Mokena by the Metra train station. Recently the owner's son has opened a second location at 10120 W. 191st street, also in Mokena. Well on our recent trip we ordered some daily specials, the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich (which included onions and peppers) and steak cut fries. A Granny Smith Apple, Strawberry, Walnut, Grilled Chicken and Cheese on a bed of lettuce with Poppy Seed Dressing salad (man was this an outstanding salad). A bowl of Beef Barley soup (excellent!) and a bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup. Along with two ice teas. The total bill came to roughly $25 dollars. So with extremely friendly service and reasonable prices, Maria and I highly recommend EggCetera Cafe to everyone. It is definitely worth the stop. read more

Great food! I had the Chicken Benedict. The floors are hardwood and therefore it's really noisy. The waitresses are great, but we had one who was either having a bad day or maybe she used to work at Ed Debevics. She was a little to sassy and snotty. Maybe that was just her sense of humor. I would go back, but the noise level and that ignorant wait staff turned me off. I'll stick to Egg Heads Cafe in Tinley Park. I hate doing this. I really like the 191st location. read more

Great place for breakfast and lunch- friendly staff and reasonable prices. I've been coming here for a few years, I don't know why I've never given them props on Yelp before.... going to change that now: Both locations (the one in downtown Mokena and the one on 191st St) are clean, bright, and warm. I always have been seated quickly with fast and efficient service. I have never ordered coffee, but the juices are all pretty good. Food items- no matter if I'm here for breakfast or lunch, I always try to get a cup of their soup. I love all the soups here- cream of broccoli is the best one for sure. Egg dishes are all great, the pancakes and waffles are great, and the bacon and sausage have never let me down. Definitely will continue coming here to eat- good food, prices, and service. read more

Dropped in on Wednesday at the new location on 191st, and the service was good and the food came out hot and fast. The pancakes were a bit thicker than I like, but my son loves them that way. I had one of their omelets, which was just like the Omelet they serve in the original location. The original location has more character, but it is not as well located for most. Terrible service by the owner himself!!! Went in for the $1 egg and cheese biscuit "special" and asked to add bacon. I also got an OJ. The waitress charged 75 cents for bacon... Total was $4, plus $1 tip. So, I sat outside with a friend waiting for train, enjoying the food. Then the owner came outside and started telling us in an angry voice that he isn't making anything on the biscuit and that the waitress under charged us. He said that his $1 special is a "myth" just to get people in the door, so that they will spend more. I swear to god... He really said this. He aggressively said that we should have been charged $3 to add bacon. Ummm, dude, it's not my problem if you think the waitress under charged me. Talk to her. I figure that I spend about $200 throughout the year at eggcetera... But I will not be going back. The owner should know better. He was a TOTAL jerk to a paying customer. So today I decided to try somewhere new for breakfast. I regularly take the Mokena train into work and have regularly seen Eggcetera so I figured I would give it a try. Upon walking in, I noticed the tables were all occupied with the exception of one six person table. After speaking with the hostess, she stated it would be a ten minute wait. Rather than argue, I gave the hostess the benefit of the doubt. After waiting 12 minutes, another father walks in with his two children. Upon arrival, they are immediately seated at the six person table. Being that I was a party of two, I was frustrated to say the least that I had waited and still given the back burner to another family. Does my money spend any differently? What frustrated me even more, was that when I brought up that I took exception to their actions, I received a blank and dumbfounded stare. It is absurd that a place that appears so welcoming and endearing would blatantly disregard another patient family to accommodate someone else. I am also of Middle Eastern descent, but I would hope that would not have played a factor in the blatant and ignorant disregard to customer service. read more

Went there for the first time; Sunday at around 11:30 am. Place was crowded, and very busy. The first thing we noted was the host, and older man who literally said nothing. Odd, but ok. We were seated and immediately felt as if we were in a high school cafeteria. My god the NOISE volume in there was off the chart. We could not even hear each other across the small two person table we were at. Our waitress arrived - wearing sweatpants - and took the order without incident. As we were waiting we noted that the flooring appears to be hollow underneath as evident by anyone walking near or around our table sent vibrations up our chairs. Very disconcerting. Food arrived, nothing really to say here. Eggs and pancakes nothing special. We were very surprised at the higher ratings this place got. If there was a 1.5 star I would have done that solely because the waitress got the order right. Sorry Mokena, we won't be back here. read more

Delicious!!! Came on a Sunday after 12pm and it wasn't overly crowded. Nice laid back atmosphere. We were seated immediately and offered coffee right away. Decent coffee and someone came around regularly to warm up our cups. Husband ordered the Rio Grande omelette and said it was incredibly good. I ordered the gingerbread pancake breakfast, which included eggs, hash browns and sausage or bacon. I ordered it with sausage. The entire plate was amazing! We were definitely impressed and happily full when we left (I took the pancakes home because I was so full and I can't wait to eat them, just from the small taste I had when they were on my plate). When my boyfriend and I first moved to Mokena, we were in search of a nice breakfast diner. Eggcetera was what we were looking for. They have top quality food and very nice service. Also, I think it is a nice touch that the restaurant is very clean and always has fresh flowers on the table rather than fake plastic ones! My boyfriend usually gets the meat lovers omelette and biscuits and gravy. I have tried both and they are very good. I normally get the thick sliced french toast. However, I decided to branch out and try the banana bread french toast. This was the best decision in the world. I am looking forward to my next trip there, just so I can have it again! This place is one of the best breakfast places in the far south suburbs... and we have our fair share of pancake joints. First of all, this place is great for kids - we went to the new 191st Street location, and with their poured concrete floors you would think the noise would be a problem, but not so (other people have mentioned that it was an issue - we were there at 9am on a Saturday morning and the place was packed and we didn't have any noise problems). And taking a toddler there was no problem because there were many families there, and the floor means its easy to clean up after the unavoidable mess of a toddler. The pumpkin pancakes are out of this world. I know they are seasonal, so get them while you can. They were fluffy and flavorful, and the compound butter that came with it was perfect, no need for syrup to drown the pancakes. My husband had the french potato omelet and was completely wowed. We tried to recreate it at home, but it didn't even come close. They did a wonderful job of balancing flavor and texture in both of the dishes we had. We've already taken out-of-towners to this restaurant and plan to keep doing so. read more

The breakfast here is delicious! Both locations and are equally good. The downtown Mokena location is a fun treat for little ones because it's right at the Metra stop and the kids love to watch the trains. They offer specials everyday and the seasonal pancakes, especially the pumpkin ones served with cinnamon butter are the best. My other favorite is eggs benedict, which is absolutely delicious. My daughter loves it here because they offer gluten free bread. read more
