We have been a very long time customer of Lumes actually over 25 years. It seems lately the food is beginning to change, especially between dine in and carry outs as I do both. It has always been you got a small cup of soup with your lunch order, but the other day I went in to order a to go food and was told soup no longer comes with carry out orders but does with dine in. This was at the Orland Park location. They will be seeing more and more competition as Egg Harbor has opened and now Egg and Berry is opening down the street. There is no logic to this as you have to pay the same price and was told you must order a bowl of soup and not a cup of you want soup with your order. Just recently I saw that the Frankfort location closed as that location was the worst of all of the others that I go to. The location on Harlem needs to be remodeled as it is looking run down. read more

Came here with my girlfriend and her parents for Mother's Day. You should arrive early because this place gets packed fast! There's additional parking on the street and some nearby parking lots if needed. I ordered the pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, (club 1), and then the French toast, which had strawberries and bananas (yep I was hungry ha!) Everything was delicious. The waiter was friendly, and the service was quick. The adjacent table to us had a World War 2 vet and his son. I walked over to his table, paid for his breakfast, and thanked him for his service. My cousin and I came here for breakfast today. As I live in the area, I am actually surprised I had not been here before now...but hey, better late than never. I got there first and got our table situated, and when my cousin came it was time for us to eat! I ordered the Aloha omelette with pancakes and a side of bacon, and my cousin had a Belgian waffle and some bacon. Let me say, at first glance, the place looks slightly dated but don't let that fool you...the food and service here is pretty damn good! She had such a pleasant demeanor and was pretty attentive the entire time, and didn't even mind when my cousin ordered food to go. I will say we were there about 10:30 in the morning and the place was hoppin'! But, you seem to get a table relatively quickly. Anyhow, the omelette was great! Pineapple, jack cheese, potatoes, and ham. the hash browns were pretty crispy, and the pancakes were nice & soft just like I like them. Not to mention, my coffee was awesome!! Quick brunch with my honey, we stopped at Lumes! Lumes has several locations, including Evergreen park and in Palos Heights which is where we dined. Lumes is located in what would be the Palos business district which is located between Cal Sag road and 127th street on South Harlem Avenue. There is ample street parking and they have a private parking lot for their patrons. Like always, my honey ordered stuffed french toast and I ordered the Mayan skillet. You know I'm the girlfriend who always eats her man's food first before trying my own......guilty as charged! His stuffed french toast was sooooo good. Served with fresh fruit, it was delicious. My Mayan skillet was good. I ordered it because I love both chorizo and jalapeños, however both fell flat. I wanted more flavor from the chorizo and my jalapenos were missing the spice (it's ok, I'll take the seeds, I want the heat!). Nonetheless, the dish was good but I would try another next time. Pulling up to the restaurant I lost hope and didn't though we would be a Jew to dine in. The parking lot was full to capacity!! However, I went in and requested a table of 6 and was told it would only be a two minute wait. To my surprise, that's literally all it took. We were sweater and I ordered ten stuffed French toast. I have grown up on Lumes breakfast/lunch all my life. Lumes is famous is Palos. Best place to eat in Palos from 6am to lunch. I was just thinking that we need more places like Lumes to get good breakfast/brunch/lunch. The place gets chock full on Sundays. The Church rush is a real thing! Everyone knows to get there early on Sundays or you will be waiting on top of others. But no biggie, you sit quick and it's worth the wait. The Sunday staff members are veterans turning tables like Adele. The best part is you never feel rushed. The servers couldn't be nicer. So on top of it too. The Sunday Cream of Chicken and Rice soup comes with a lot of lunch choices. You don't think you want soup- but 2 minutes after they put that sucker in front of you- you find yourself licking the cup clean. As a vegetarian- I haven't personally had the soup in over 4 years. But I know it's still the same delish soup because my mother scarfed it in moments just yesterday. I find myself dreaming of the chicken and rice soup. Anyways- get the waffles fries when you get a choice of sides. If you pick regular over waffle- go to jail. That's just principle. Their waffle fries do not disappoint. I've been going to Lumes since I was a young child and in all the times that I have gone I always have an amazing experience. The familial feel of the restaurant is unlike any other restaurant that I have ever patronized. From the hosts and hostess, wait staff and chefs everyone provides exceptional service and you can tell how much they value there customers. There isn't a bad option on the menu and you'll leave well fed, provably with leftovers and in a better mood from Lume's positive spirit and atmosphere. I got eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. They served me raw hash browns and then the waitress said she would get me new ones that were cooked better. We were waiting for over 20 minutes for the new hash browns and she never brought them out. She ended up just bringing us the check without ever saying anything about the hash browns. We were going to say something but we had already wasted 20 extra minutes already waiting so we said the heck with this, we're just leaving. We probably won't come back to be completely honest, just bad service and it made no sense haha. The other good was good though, it all just made no sense and I don't get why she never brought out the cooked hash browns or said anything about it when she was the one who was like no worries we'll make you new ones. A good neighborhood gem. First time at this location. Upon entering the host/I think owner allowed me & hub to stand for 45 seconds before greeting us. It wasn't the best greeting, very low & dry. The server Jamie came as soon as we sat down...amazing. We gave her our drink order; the coffee is good; wished they had flavored creamer and or raw sugar options. The food came out 11 mins after ordering. Damn that was fast!!!! The egg white veggie omelette was divine, we asked for our potatoes to be be crisp, great job. Hubby liked the cheese omelette. The food was hot, tasty. Clean spot. Did not use restrooms. Older, family crowd. They have speakers overhead but no music was playing(?????). You could hear everyone's conversation. Pretty solid breakfast/lunch menu. Our server, Maureen, was very pleasant. I ordered the Meat Lovers Skillet, which was a special. It came with sausage, bacon, ham, potatoes, and Monterrey jack cheese. It was good but I've had better. The meat was a little dried out. My mother ordered the Club Three, which included 2 halves of French toast, 2 scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of bacon, and 2 sausage links. She substituted the sausage links for sausage patties and loved her meal! I initially order coffee but it was too weak for me so I sent it back. It was pretty chilly inside, so I ordered a hot chocolate to keep me warm. My inner child really enjoyed it. It successfully warmed me up, but it was really, really sweet. Let me start with a side story that will pertain to my review of this place. Over the years I have experienced other restaurant patrons sitting around me put the waiter/waitress through their paces when ordering their meal. To the point that will specify how they want every item cooked a certain way, this drives me nuts. I stopped into Lumes, even though I not a big fan of chain restaurants and prefer family owned or greasy spoons. Placed my order omelet, hash browns, toast, and coffee. Getting a refill on the coffee seemed to be a little hard to get from the waitress. My meal came out and everything came out looking good, except for the hash browns. They were cooked like a potato chip and they had to be cut with a knife. I do not like this way and most places I visit do not cook them to this point. As I said earlier coffee refills were getting hard to find and by the time we were about three quarters done, our waitress was nowhere to be found. Finished our dry meal, paid our bill and left. As I started this review about people who spec out a meal. Another customer sat down behind me and proceeded to place his order and he was very specific. I kind of laughed when I heard him and said to myself "he is one of those". But seeing how my meal came out, this has to be done. read more
