Saturday late morning was a good time to enjoy Eggcetera Cafe. There was enough train and Metra traffic to enthrall the youngest member of our party, but not so much to be intrusive to conversation. The coffee was good but better with half & half. The dark roast coffee was had more flavor than the regular coffee. I had the Large Eggcroissant, husband had Crepes Florentine, and a yogurt parfait for the Train Enthusiast. The star of the offerings was the hollandaise sauce. Most hollandaise sauce is insipid (at best) and excruciatingly over used. Husband tends to ask for it on the side because there's no reason to ruin an adequate meal by drowning it with bland yellow sludge. Eggcetera Cafe's hollandaise tasted delicately of lemon as it should. He drizzled it artistically on his crepes after a pleasantly surprised taste. The croissant sandwich was huge. They are very generous with the cheese and side of potatoes. The potatoes needed some salt (and a bit of hubby's extra hollandaise) but we nicely soft with a bit of brown. The parfait was sweet. It had whipped cream and slices of strawberries, and American style blended yogurt. It was very sweet and the Little Train Enthusiast was thrilled with trains and parfait. The changing table in the Women's has a broken strap and that made changing the Enthusiast a bit precarious but I'm usually just grateful not to have to use the floor. I'm happy we broke our fast at Eggcetera Cafe. We'll be happy to visit again. read more

I came here to try something different for breakfast in the area. I got the usual. Here is how it turned out. I'll save the best for last. No warm fuzzies were felt as I entered into the restaurant. $5 for a small cranberry juice. Wow. I'll make sure to go to the grocery store 1st next time. Corn beef hash comes hot, but it's out from a can for sure. Asked for 2 orders of crispy bacon. I've had better. It's a little flimsy but they give your 4 slices per order to compensate. Can't complain about that. Asked for buttered toast. They obliged. A lot of restaurants don't do it. The star of the show: the hash browns. The best in the south suburbs. Real potatoes fried just right. Hot and and delicious even after a 15 minute trip. Could use some seasoning, but...whatever. Maybe I'll share that with them when I return, because I will return for those hash browns! read more

The good The place is a super cute specious restaurant. Farmhouse style is slightly modernized. The facilities were well kept . The seasoned staff was providing spot-on service with snappy refill, engaging conversation, and a pleasant deminor. Sausage links while frozen precooked were the best thing I ate. The average The coffee with prepacked cream. The hashbrows The eggs The biscuits were what I think were prepacked and just wamed. The bad The total lack of flavor had to salt and pepper everything. The gravy was white bland and flavorless. The bacon was dry and burnt and I was in early so it's not like it should have been sitting on the frill all morning but that is what was served. Went there for lunch today and my wife had the Greek omelette which she said was terrific. I had scrambled eggs with grilled onions on them and a short stack of plain crêpes with honey coffee was decent was wonderful. Everything was hot and fresh. This is an easy five star. read more

Great cozy little local place to eat with always friendly and accommodating staff...just a bit pricey. I've had their burger, a chicken salad, the avocado toast with eggs and potatoes (I like to get their cubed potatoes instead of the hash browns...nice and crispy). They don't do enough to hype the farm store history of the building...the front dining room has been modernized and the old pine floors replaced (or covered?)...what a shame! It'd be cool if they remodeled with a vintage look and old farm stuff. If you go down the hallway to the back, you'll still see the old pine floors from when it was the local farm/feed store (I used to go there in the mid 1970s). In the summer, they open up the front porch so you can eat al fresco and watch the trains go by. read more

Been going to Eggcetera for years. The owner is a member of our church. The food is very good and always big portions. The wood benches are a bit uncomfortable but ok if your only sitting there for a bit. The service is always good and they keep the coffee fresh and hot! Have had breakfast mostly here but the salads for lunch are good too. read more

You just love their Banana Bread French Toast with fresh bananas and pecans topped with cinnamon butter. So good you don't need syrup.

I had the Traditional Eggs Benedict, which came with two poached eggs, Canadian bacon, English muffin, and with hollandaise sauce. My husband had the Corned Beef Hash & Eggs with a side of Biscuits & Sausage Gravy (the half order, as we had an order of 2 entrees). My dish was solid, and a very simple dish. My husband thought his dish was okay, but was not a fan of the sausage gravy as he wasn't a fan of the flavors. The service was nice and the place was very cheery. A perfect place to get well made, tasty food served quickly. The staff is friendly and efficient. The interior is bright and well spaced. Plexiglass separates each booth and tables have sufficient room between each. I had the big breakfast was perfect. Eggs over medium and home style hash brown potatoes with homemade biscuits with real sausage gravy. Not the pasty, flavorless stuff but well seasoned with good pieces of sausage. My wife's 2 potato pancakes were the size of half the plate. Served with sour cream and apple sauce, they were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Just perfect! 2 eggs and 2 thick slices of bacon rounded out her order. We loved this so much, we came back again before heading back home today. My potato pancake order was as good as yesterday, a great sign of good cooking. My wife ordered 2 carrot cake pancakes. Made with walnuts and topped with a drizzled icing they were enough for 2. Had an awful experience on Sunday. Two of ordered lox egg and onions. Waited 40 minutes and then food came out cold. Sent it back, came out 5 minutes later with the original bagel which was now hard and crusty and not warm. Asked to speak to Peter but was told he was not there. I called there this morning and spoke to someone that was very rude. He informed me that Peter, (who was not there yesterday) knew of the situation since he was there yesterday. When I told the fellow on the phone that I will post of Facebook, he hung up on me. Giving him the benefit of the doubt that we were just disconnected, I tried calling back and they pick up the phone and hang it up. That has gone on for at least the past hour. Lousy customer service. Would never eat there again. Don't waste your time. Have to give it one start to get it posted, but they don't even deserve one! read more

Bad service. Constantly mess up order and don't have any reasonable way to compensate me for the inconvenience. Food is mediocre. If you order takeout make sure you actually call and speak with someone because if you order online and order pancakes they will forget to give you butter and syrup every time and will say "well it's not included in the price" I try to support local businesses but I cannot continue to support this one when they continue to get things wrong and don't seem to really care about the inconvenience. The solution is: "we'll give you a free stack of pancakes next time you're here". Um, no...I order carry out because I cannot easily physically get to the place. So that really isn't a solution to my current problem but it's "the only solution there is". Apparently they have no way of refunding you when you order through door dash online. Buyers beware. Located in downtown Mokena next to Metra station this little place has some good grub. My dad (a regular) brought me to both locations and I enjoyed the food. The Mokena location is small and the chairs for ME (bad back) were not too comfy BUT the service is great and the food is good. They post daily specials which are worth ordering. Good place for kids if you have any because they can watch the trains pass by. The 191st location (which is closer to where I grew up) is pretty new and is really nice inside. Same there as far as great service. The owner goes back and fourth from the locations which is great because it shows how involved he is and how much he cares that his locations are taken care of. This place is awful! My husband, I, and some friends went there for breakfast the service was awful. Our waitress only came to the table twice didn't even check on us and my husband's orange juice had a lid in it. As I was near the area recently, I was looking for a brunch/lunch kind of place. When I saw the listing on Yelp, I decided I wanted to try and find it. It was a bit hard to find and I passed by once, but I found it and parked the car. I walked in and was immediately greeted by the waitress who told me to sit anywhere. After parousing the menu, I decided on a build your own skillet with coffee, Shortly after, my meal was served and it was very tasty. I loved the ambience of the place (cozy, not too big) and the location is great (near the Mokena Metra Stop). For those looking for a neat place to eat, give them a try. I go to the 191st St. location and never been to the Downtown one yet. Anyway, I can't think of any single reason to criticize them for. I get the Farmer Skillet with green peppers added, which has always come out perfect. The waitresses are all prompt and courteous. The owner is sometimes there helping out and watching how things are going. There is a front counter for walk-ins, which is a plus! Oh, and they have cinnamon butter for your toast which is something you don't usually see (you need to ask for it if they don't bring it) and is really good! The skillet was really good, but I wasn't a fan of the $1 "share" charge me and my girlfriend got for sharing a plate. I've never heard of that in my life. The only reason we decided to eat there was because we weren't that hungry but still wanted a little breakfast. I don't understand why a share charge is necessary. It's not like it took more effort to make or serve. It was still served on one plate like a normal meal. And for that reason, I'm out.
