Eggspectation - Merriweather District My first visit to Eggspectation and it made a strong first impression. Located in the ever-growing Merriweather District, parking can be a bit of a mixed bag. There's a nearby surface lot that fills up quickly, but a larger parking garage within easy walking distance that makes things manageable--and a bonus for EV drivers, with multiple charging stations that are available. Just plan ahead, especially on weekends or when events are happening at Merriweather Post Pavilion. The space itself is modern and thoughtfully designed. One side of the dining room features floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light and offers peaceful views of Symphony Woods--a perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal or a little people-watching. There's also a covered outdoor patio that looks especially appealing for warmer days. Service during our lunch visit was excellent. Ethan struck that ideal balance--friendly, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. He handled menu questions with ease and was happy to make a few substitutions without hesitation. A seasonal spring menu is currently available, but the full menu being offered all day is a nice plus. We started with the Ginger Zinger--refreshing with just the right amount of zing. I went with the veggie omelette, customized to my liking, and it delivered: perfectly cooked and packed with fresh mushrooms, spinach, and asparagus. The Lyonnaise potatoes were flavorful, and the lightly dressed salad rounded out the plate nicely. My friends both ordered the Eggspectation breakfast sandwich, stacked high with thick-cut bacon and presented beautifully. Portions across the board were generous--we expected leftovers, but between the good food and even better conversation, most plates were nearly cleared. Prices lean toward the moderately expensive side, but that's fairly standard for this area--and the quality justifies it. If you're looking for a quieter experience, weekdays are your best bet. It's also a great spot to unwind after a walk around the nearby lakes or wooded paths. While there is ongoing construction in the area, the restaurant itself is well insulated from the noise. Overall, a very solid first visit. I'd gladly return to explore more of the menu. read more

What a great location! In the heart of the new apartments and down the street from Merriweather Post Pavilion, this Eggspectations is in a professional building on the first floor. We had Claudia for our waitress and she was awesome! We were her only table at 2:45pm on a Tuesday and she treated us like friends. This was our first time at this location and we will definitely be back. The decor was very uptown professional meets industrial. High open ceilings with sleek black walls and marble looking tables. Very fun big bar as well. We got everything she recommended and it was so good! We got the Eggstravaganza (Brioche French Toast with two eggs, choice of meat and potatoes) and the Flatbread Sourdough Pizza with Pepperoni, grilled onions and peppers, and extra cheese. For drinks we got the seasonal Pistachio Latte and the Tropical Teaser smoothie that was a refreshing fresh fruit smoothie with mango, banana, pineapple and strawberries. I was in the area and wanted breakfast food so I stopped in to enjoy some yumminess! First time here, so it was weird trying to find it. This gem is located in the Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield building, so when you see the building, just park and walk toward it. You will see the outdoor patio when you walk up. Whew that was a lot BUT it was WORTH IT!!! I sat at the bar and was greeted by Chris. He was super friendly and very helpful as I tried to navigate the extensive menu. For starters I tried the Pagé Paradise smoothie. It was DELICIOUS! I also ordered the Green light which was amazing ! I finally got around to ordering the Eggsuberant, which was spectacular! This Eggspectation (based out of Montreal) diner location was very impressive! It has a very modern interior design and is quite a large restaurant. It is located at the bottom of the office building in Merriweather. You can't go wrong with food choices here - they're all amazing (but pricey). My favorite thing here is the lyonnaise style potatoes, which are thinly sliced and fried potatoes with an onion garnish. My French toast was so soft and delicious. The eggs were warm and delicious. Unfortunately, the bacon was thick and chewy. I sent it back and got sausage instead - which was much better. This new location is really nice ! A bit hard to find when following my GPS but maybe just me. It has an open concept, airy and bright, thanks to all the wide windows around. I recently visited with a party of five, and we had a fantastic experience! We got seated right away, which was really nice. The staff was welcoming and the overall vibe was friendly. If you're planning to visit, come hungry as the portion sizes are huge and definitely worth the price. I ordered the southwest omelette. It was delicious. GUYS GET THE GARLIC BREAD. It was so good, super flavorful! My parents thought it was too salty, but I think it was good and a great starter. The chicken and waffles were amazing, loaded up on the chicken -- you have to put hot sauce on it too, so good. stopped by for a grateful waffle (thanksgiving-themed waffle) on a weekday morning when I knew that there wouldn't be too many customers. The food was okay. I love Thanksgiving-themed entrees, so I was looking forward to the seasonal dish. The flavor balance was good, but I feel like the execution/style wasn't quite what I was looking for. I was hoping for the waffle to be a bit more crispy because it ended up just getting soggy from everything that was put on top. If I was rating the food alone, I would probably put my experience somewhere between a 3.5-4 out of 5. What brought my experience down to a 3 rather than 4 was the service. As mentioned earlier, it was a quiet morning, but I still found it incredibly difficult to get the attention for any service (getting the check or getting refills, things like that). I really wanted to enjoy my experience more because eggspectation feels like a staple to the Columbia area, but with all the other brunch places around these days, it's a tough sell to recommend. read more

We've been to this location twice now, both times came on a weekday with no reservation and we were seated immediately. The inside is spacious and modern. The outside has a cute patio however you're surrounded by high rise business offices and I got bit up by mosquitos. Since the restaurant is tucked into a business park, parking lot space may be scarce. There are parking garages walking distance though. Eggspectation has an extensive menu with something for everyone. They have single, 1/2 carafe, and whole carafe mimosas, as well as other brunch cocktails. I enjoyed my chicken and waffles, the chicken pieces were large and the waffle was fluffy. The breakfast platter was good, they were flexible with substitutions as well. This was my first time at their new Columbia location. I had been many times when they were on Snowden. This new location is update and a good vibe inside and out. You can't beat the feel inside. The service was terrible. The server had absolutely no idea about the menu, I had to basically beg for water and a refill on coffee, and we waited about 45 minutes at the end for the check. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious. The potatoes were knock out with a little bit of onion on top. The eggs were also packed with incredible flavor combinations. Next time I would skip the coffee. It was bad quality coffee and the milk options were only whole milk, half and half, or almond milk. Why are those your only options being a brunch spot. I feel the same about this place as I did the old location. The food is good overall and I'd go back, but previously this was probably one of the only brunch spots in Columbia. Currently with many more options popping up, I don't think this would be my first pick. read more

We ordered drinks and food as soon as we got seated. The drinks didn't come out until after the food and when I ordered a second drink it didn't come out until after the bill. The waiter hardly ever checked in on us. My mimosa was good but expensive for the size. The tacos were okay and the chicken and waffles were mediocre. I was pretty upset with the pancake. They only have one type of pancake that they add toppings to. They don't cook things into the pancake and the pancake had a lemony flavor that I didn't enjoy. My son's kids grilled cheese was large and tasty. I don't see what's special enough about this place to make the wait or the prices worth it. read more

We visited here on a busy Saturday and were told there was a 30 minute wait but it only ended up being 10. The ambiance is modern, all black and white aesthetic with booth seating and a bar. It felt a little tight with the tables close together and booth was packed once the big plates came in with food. For starter we had the gooey goose bread which did need a fork and knife since it was covered in syrup; tasted delicious, just not pull apart as menu said. This was my first time dining at an eggspectation. They are the newest addition to Merriweather. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful. It's the perfect location for all occasions. They seem to be in the process of setting up their outdoor seating, which will be great once the weather breaks. Unfortunately, I wasn't impressed with my first visit. The bartender was super friendly and attentive. They were out of the white wine I wanted, which is most likely due to them just opening. My other issue was with my order. I ordered the meatball appetizer and they brought out the meatball and fettuccine meal. They immediately took and back and brought out the correct dish. I was a bit shocked with the dish as it was much different than what's described on the menu. I was expecting meatballs in a sauce with bread on the side. The dish was like open faced sliders with a side of pesto sauce. When I went back to look at the pic on the website it didn't look like what I received. Not sure what that's all about. I'm glad we stumbled upon it. We left dinner nearby and saw it so we decided to stop in. They had happy hour going on until 8! Woot! Since we just ate we weren't hungry but just wanted a glass of wine. This was perfect. There's lots of cozy outdoor seating. The inside did not disappoint. We were greeted soon as we walled in. We opted to sit at the bar. Adrian was excellent. He was engaging and friendly. Thank you! The happy hour house wines are $5. Their house red was the Meoimi Pinot Noir! It was a busy Sunday which definitely affected our service - my latte came out cold and without a spoon, the kitchen forgot about my eggs Benedict and it came out very late compared to the rest of our tables order, and the French toast came without syrup. I think that if we went on a day where it wasn't as busy the service would have been better but I do have to say all of our food was delicious and we would order everything again. That was amazing ... the spot is on the corner off the pavilion and is well lit and real vibe ...I ordered the crab and shrimp Benedict and subbed the grits from the English muffin ... This newer location in Columbia (Merriweather District) is gorgeous and lively. The decor is modern black and white. And I love that the bathrooms have no touch entry/exit - just wave your hand. This place is busy!! The service was a bit slow at the bar on our last visit on Memorial Day. You can make reservations but don't try to do that last minute on the weekend. You'll just have to show up and wait it out. Or grab seats at the full service bar if available. There is also generous COVERED outdoor seating. The food is consistently good and I've still only had breakfast items here. There's just something about breakfast food. And of the two times I've been to this location I have no pictures :( read more

This newest Eggspectation location is still working a few of the kinks out. The service at the contemporary setting in the Merriweather District location was a bit chaotic and delayed... three different servers attempted to bring our table the same incorrect drink three times. They truly wanted us to have the iced cappuccino as opposed to the hot cappuccino we ordered, and no one wanted me to have the ice tea. The food did offset some of the service issues as the chicken schnitzel and the all american breakfast were generous and delicious. Perhaps a few more weeks of fine-tuning and the service will catch- up to the food. Cheers! read more
