I came here one weekend evening with a friend, and we both really enjoyed our experience here. The restaurant has a great ambiance, and the indoor seating had a darker aesthetic. We chose to sit outside, which overlooks the parking lot. They have a great selection of wine! Our waitress was so kind to provide details about a few of the selections we were interested in and even brought us a couple tastings. I had to go with the Merlot -- it had a great balance of sweet and dry. For my entrée, I ordered the wild mushroom fettuccine without bacon, and I absolutely loved it. I especially loved the romesco cream sauce. For dessert, our waiter recommended the smith island cake, which was a red velvet cake. It was also pretty good. This place had amazing ratings online so I decided to check it out for my birthday!! This spot is tucked away located in an unsuspecting location. The interior is beautifully decorated, golds and greens with gorgeous lighting & a fireplace. We were greeted by Laurie who seemed to be both host and server! She was really sweet and super personable. The food was amazing. I loved my chicken Marsala, the chicken was cooked perfectly. The fries were delicious, the extra crispy kind that you can't find many places! The cream of crab was so good, I don't like when there are chunks of onion in it and this one was smooth and thick. The steak was awesome and so was the whipped feta! The wine flight was a nice touch, they have a ton of wines and cocktails for everyone else (also a full bar)! For my birthday the chef prepared a berry sorbet with candles! It was the best sorbet I've ever tasted and I wish I could have more now! We had a fantastic dinner at old line. Found out about it through social media while trying to figure out where to go for a spontaneous date night. The restaurant was cute and our server, Gabrielle, was great! We started with the Parmesan truffle fries and the whipped ricotta. The truffle fries were simple, but in a good way. The whipped ricotta had some surprising sweetness to it, but it worked well. I had the mushroom fettuccine and my boyfriend had the ribeye - both were sooo good. I decided to try one of the wines on tap - had the Charles and Charles, a red blend and I liked this better than my fist glass. We had a prefix menu and I ordered the steak frites. This was my first time at Old Line Kitchen & Wine Bar. I have to say, from the moment you walk into the restaurant you feel like a regular. From the warm welcome at the hostess desk, our wonderful server named Drew, and the food......it was an amazing night and I can't wait to go back! Every single thing we ate was some of the best food in Howard County. The house focaccia was crispy on the outside and was perfectly fluffy in the middle. It was a bite to remember for years, but when you added the butter and rosemary sea salt, it was a bite to remember for decades. The crispy rock shrimp came out hot and very crispy. The two sauces on them was like a marriage that will never divorce. It's a marriage that will last throughout time. Now onto the entree, the 14 ounce grilled ribeye, it was the knockout punch. Attended another vino on the veranda event last night. It was windy and chilly so we were happy to see the heaters were turned on. The event was sold out and there were more people than last month. I felt the wine event was disorganized or if it was the wine person. In the beginning, he poured the red wine first before the white. People at my table were getting confused as to which wine the wine person was talking about. The service was great. At the end when we were waiting for our wines, we found out that we needed to pick them up. We were getting mixed information from the wait staff and from the wine person. Update: Old Line passed the first round. Family came to celebrate a birthday. Late Lunchtime. Service was warm and friendly but some minor reminders were needed. We shared the fried cauliflower and the calamari. Everyone raved over the perfectly fried crunchy fresh calamari with the trio of sauces. There was no lingering aroma of fried seafood at the table. I would recommend this. The Venetian spritzer was less aromatic and bitter than I had expected. Not bad, not to repeat. The fried chicken thigh sandwich was a generous portion, served with chips. Someone chose mac and cheese and enjoyed it. The accompanying homemade chips tasted fresh and lightly seasoned without a trace of oil. The crab cake sandwich also got a thumbs up from two companions. Hefty portion of meat. Most people find the food very filling, a good sign in my experience. I ordered the pork chop, which had a blackberry-rosemary demi glace, agave carrots, and edamame purée I requested it medium well but some parts were barely medium. The demi glace was not flavorful, and I had to look up how it was supposed to taste. The purée tasted too creamy with a neither smooth nor chunky texture. Overall, I could not taste any flavor in any one component. A few requests like napkins and sandwich modifications did not go through. Fortunately others enjoyed their food and did not dwell on the gaps. Red Velvet Smith Island cake got rave reviews; generous portion, enough to share. The lemon sorbet reserved for a birthday celebrations tasted smooth refreshing and not too sweet. Since there was no ice cream and I was not in a vegan banana cake mood, I passed on dessert. The chocolate torte would be welcome another time. The jazz music that had matched the ambiance on the first visit was replaced with 80s one-hit wonders from the bottom of the charts. A bathroom stall issue would have created a line at a busier moment. This was a mostly delicious yet uneven experience. The visit was closer to three stars. However, the overall food experience kept it afloat. We had Calamari, which was good, lightly battered & fried, we also ordered the sliders & those were very good & flavorful. We also ordered the ricotta which was light & creamy but it lacked something.... Lastly , we tried the pupusas. These were delicious but should've been served with the traditional curdito salad. Good drinks offerings so no complaints there. Our bartender was not very attentive or engaging. The place was practically empty but we constantly had to get her attention to get additional food & drinks. It was worth a shot! I felt like I was being pranked. Let's start by saying that this place has a TON of potential. This could genuinely be a nice place to lounge, grab a bite to eat and catch a vibe.. HOWEVER, everything was off. The staff is superrrr nice but when you are a server, hygiene should be top priority. I am going to decline to specify exactly what went wrong to maintain decency. I initially ordered calamari because I just wanted a bite and a drink.. unfortunately, I had to send it back because the calamari was gummy and oily. The drink was a drink.. it was cool. I ended up having to just get fries. Now THOSE were bomb! Our first time dining at this new Columbia spot, we were excited to see what the team has been cooking up. Let's talk ambiance. The bar is front and center upon entering, with the dining room tucked behind the front of house desk. The dining area is airy and open, with tall ceilings and prominent main light feature. It still seems to be finding its character--it was both striving for the elevated feel while being a bit new and sterile. I imagine will come with time! Approaching the drink menu, I was impressed by the extensive single glass and draft wine options, all very reasonably priced. The house cocktail list leaves a little to be desired but again, perhaps with time will gain more depth. The craft beer menu could also do with a few more additions--we're spoiled for exceptional brews in this region, so would be nice to see some of those featured (Sapwood, Crooked Crab, Black Flag to name a few). We started with the cheese board, which was overall middle of the road. The everything crackers were a mismatch paired with mellower cheeses, and the seasonal jam (fig?) was a bit off-putting flavor wise. The crab soup got a solid thumbs up from the table though. As for main dishes, as the vegetarian at the table, I ordered the Chickpea Cake. I must admit, the platting was not the most appetizing in appearance, giving me some real cafeteria vibes. The curried veloute is a tough color to get past. The chickpea cake itself was the best bit on the plate. Thick, moist and flavorful. The orzo was undercooked, as well as the seasonal veggies which were sparse in volume. The side salad had no dressing to be found, so was incredibly dry. The burger was well-received by two diners at the table, though one did need to be sent back initially for improper additions. The Delmonico Ribeye was also enjoyed, though the portion of meat seemed a bit underwhelming for the price point. Overall, a nice but largely forgettable dining experience. We may wait some time before thinking about returning, as it's clear that the team is still working out some kinks and finding its personality. read more

I miss the high tops that provided the casual feeling of a bar. The larger bar is great and allows more people the casual experience that's lost. The service at the bar was a little slow. On a July afternoon craving something better than Maryland's ubiquitous crab houses or the chain restaurants that seems to occupy every corner, I found what billed itself as a wine bar, tucked deep into a dense industrial park in Columbia, Maryland, surrounded by medical offices and laboratories. The parking lot had the feel of what I imagine Siberia looks like, empty, vacant, and desolate. Inside, the place redeemed itself immediately. Dim, low lit, almost clubby in an old school way, minus the mahogany and leather you'd expect from that kind of room. It was genuinely charming. After hoping to start my meal as always with a nice glass of bubbles-I looked at the wine list and found only a couple of cloyingly sweet options and the obligatory prosecco, which, for the record, is never an option. Life is far too short to drink cheap bubbly that never saw a proper bottle fermentation. Although it markets itself as a wine bar, having a lot of selections, some even on tap, doesn't automatically deem it so. A true wine bar is a combination of everything, not just the juice itself, but the foods built to match them! I enjoyed A lovely pinot noir from Willamette, and a smaller Napa winery I hadn't come across before, quite tasty and fairly priced, though the pours were fairly small for fifteen dollars a glass. I opted for the mussels, and they were absolutely brilliant, nearing spectacular. Cooked to perfection, no fault to find there, and there was a generous, plentiful amount of them. The menu listed ground chorizo as part of the dish, and I assumed it would be there for flavor and a little heat. As it turned out, the chorizo had been used as nearly a third of the dish rather than the seasoning it should have been. Not being a meat eater, I pushed it to the side, no complaints. The bartender, a genuinely kind guy, offered to make it without the meat next time, which would definitely be a plus. Otherwise there was not a single thing I would change. Great flavor, great texture, a lovely sauce, and the bread that came with it didn't fill me up before the meal even started. Very, very pleasant. I should have stopped there, but being the eternal optimist, I ordered the cream of crab soup. Before the spoon even reached my tongue, the smell of flour hit me. One spoonful, not even a sip, because a sip would have implied the soup was still liquid, was enough. I pushed it aside and sent it back. To their credit, nobody questioned it, no defense of the dish, no explanation offered. It came off the bill immediately. But the soup itself was a rookie mistake. Anyone with more than a six month old culinary degree, or honestly just a season of real kitchen experience, knows flour in a soup is there to bind, not to take over. This one was completely over-roux'd, and the poor crab never stood a chance, reduced to playing second fiddle in its own bowl. One bite later, I moved on to something new, a crispy rock shrimp appetizer. The shrimp was, once again, cooked with real skill, lightly breaded in cornmeal, not a second over or under done. The line cook clearly knows his temperatures and his craft. But whoever is writing this menu seems to believe everything needs to be laden with a in all to rich creamy sauce. If you're going to serve something already as rich as fried shrimp, you need acidity for balance, especially in a room built around wine, where the goal is to open the palate up, not leave the customer bloated and scrambling for the door. Which is exactly what I did. All in all, it was disappointing. The wines were tasty but aggressively priced. For context, if a bottle retails at fifteen to twenty dollars, a restaurant, especially a wine bar with this many options by the glass, should be pricing a glass around eight to ten dollars. That's a fair markup. Here, a fifteen dollar bottle produced a fifteen dollar glass. A little too aggressive for my taste. The price itself isn't the issue. The ratio is. The amateurness of the crab soup made me question the kitchen's judgment altogether, and the rock shrimp, cooked beautifully, only reinforced it. Imagine a crisp, acidic, chimichurri style sauce alongside that shrimp instead. It would have opened the dish up, kept me at the bar, and made me want to try more. Instead I paid my tab and left, unable to imagine wanting to feel that full again without the joy of actually happy taste buds. read more

Our bartender was polite, but not engaging and not once asked if we needed anything/checked if we liked anything. We had to flag her down every time we wanted to put in another order. We got calamari (so good, but small we ordered 2), sliders, whipped ricotta, and pupusas. The plates are very small ($2 off regular app price, not sure if they downsize for HH). We had a reservation for 2 for a birthday and were seated right away. This place has only been open 3 weeks, so still pretty new. But service seemed seamless! The menu seems to be upscale southern flair. You can build your own charcuterie as an appetizer which seems like a nice touch! We started with salad and bread. One ordered the special which was a lobster dish and I ordered the braised short rib. Neither of us had any complaints! The bartender was our server and the manager checked in on us an adequate number of times without it being overbearing. I'll definitely be back!
