This was really good! I don't remember the grits having crab meat in them but that was a plus! Verrryyyy flavorful! The inside is very nice and my bartender was amazing. I wish I remembered his name. summary: although I really want to like BB+P for the values they represent and their food is decent, it's really becoming a bit of a tough sell for me. I went because they sent me a promotion email for $10 off for a birthday meal. So, I went for a weekday early lunch when it wasn't busy. I think there must've been like 1 server for a 10 table section, but in either case, I had to wait like 10-15 minute just for my first interaction. I didn't really see the waiter again for another 20-30 minutes and when I did there were issues on their end honoring the birthday meal. At the end of it, the manager wasn't able to give me the $10 off, but rather they "settled" for 10% off the final bill... which isn't the same thing? Felt frustrating considering that was the primary reason I was there. At that point, I had already spent way more time than I allotted for, so I didn't argue. The food is pretty good and they have some legitimately cool events, but their service has been pretty spotty every time I've gone and it's hard to give a recommendation for it. read more

The nachos took a while, our entrees took even longer, and the runner left our dirty appetizer plates on the already crowded table. At one point, we were even brought two entrees that weren't ours. The food was just okay. The mashed potatoes were creamy and the fried chicken was good, but the grits were hard. The hot wings were advertised as hot but tasted more sweet than spicy. A sincere shout out to Busboys and Poets. They are one of our go-to's for takeout on busy nights during the week. The Bacon and Cheddar burger with crispy fries or sweet potato fries are always great. The beet salad is to die for with a few nice touches like mango, some golden beets, candied pecans and a yuzu vinaigrette. The Inferno wings are a solid choice, my college was in upstate NY where "wings and pizza" shops are not uncommon. The Cubano panini, the Cobb salad, garlic bread, harissa soup, and chili bowl are also not only recommended but common orders. Really liked their crab grits for brunch :) Service is usually pretty fast and the place is very spacious, so you never have to wait too long to get a seat - even during the weekends which is WILD. I've always wanted to try this place and ordered carry out breakfast-brunch here on a weekday. They made the food fairly quick and the pick up was speedy and effortless. One day I want to dine here as the ambiance is inviting- it makes you want to have brunch or go on a date here. They even have a store inside with books and other knickknacks. I got the Meklheme, an Iraqi beef and potato hash with fried eggs on top. It was served with toasted whole wheat bread. The beef had good flavor, but I found the meat (please note I rarely eat beef so I am not accustomed to how it should be) to be oily or fatty. Within a few bites I felt heavy and in a drowsy food coma. By the time I opened my food, the bread was sadly soggy- I wish it wasn't put within the Meklheme container itself. Overall, not bad. But, I wouldn't come again for this dish again. I have tried a bite of their famous Sweet Potato pancakes- they're tasty and don't even need the syrup as they're sweet! Perhaps next time if I come again for brunch, I'll opt for the pancakes. Does this place make me want to come back again? Although I've patronized and liked this and their other locations for years, I went here a few months ago and the manager was so hostile when she came by our table that I've never gone back and probably won't. The individual servers were nice, but I sense the problem is at the mgmt level - the inconsistent service others have noted was apparent here, too. It's too bad bc there's otherwise a lot to like about this chain. The food was fine, if average; it's nice they have a bookstore, and it's a great location. But food is getting more expensive, dining out is now a real stretch for most people, and I can't justify giving scarce dollars to someone who clearly doesn't want the business. I've eaten at Busboys and Poets many of times. Today wasn't their finest hour. I got there really early, there was only one other table sat. The restaurant is still as clean and beautifully decorated as it's always been. The playlist is still good as well. The service today was lacking and the food was just ok. Which was very disappointing because I love their food! I sat at the bar and ordered the Chai Latte. I'm not sure if the bartender was new but she didn't steam it long enough for it to be hot. When I said something to her she asked me if I wanted her to add more to my cup and I declined. In my opinion she should have remade the drink the right way but whatever lol. My bartender also didn't give any guest service at all, she spent the entire time restocking the bar. Because of that I didn't get the guest experience that I'm use to getting here. For my meal, I ordered the Vegan Hash and 1 sweet potato pancake. My meal took about 20 minutes to come out. And the hash wasn't as flavorful as I remembered, I think it was missing the vegan sausage. The pancake was good but it was small.
