What a fantastic venue for Candlelight by Fever! Everything from the acoustics for the quartet to the glimmering candles surrounding the musicians. There's no bad seats but I prefer the mid level to upper level for the view of the lights. Musicians were fantastic and even had a good sense of humor announcing the next set and each other. Then the music.. it was cool to see all ages, young and senior citizens toe-tapping and head bobbing and a few singing along to the iconic tunes. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the musical choices...Abba to Queen to the Beatles...a great date night idea and relaxing event! read more

For a smaller venue it can really attract high quality live performers. This year alone, sold-out audiences for Jimmy Faila, Lewis Black and Herb Alpert. This Saturday is another sell out for Jamie Lissow. The venue is consistent with the 1920's era architecture. The theater's architecture is of the Egyptian revival style, inspired by the newly discovered tomb of King Tut. There are a number of Egyptian Theaters in the US. On Oct 20th we attended Leonid & Friends. We arrived early, and there was an extremely long line of people on Main St waiting to go in. It was a chilly October night but I was glad it wasn't any colder! When we got to the entrance, there was only one person checking tickets and one person checking bags. Once we were inside, we needed to find our seats in the balcony, but there were no ushers to help us. I was surprised at how short-staffed they were. read more

Every time I go to the Egyptian it's magical, like stepping back in time and enjoying music in my own living room. Never disappoints!

Nostalgia is often lost. In my younger years in my hometown lol f Butte, MT, there was a theater called The Fox Theater. It was, like the Egyptian, built in the early 1920's. As a kid, it was a magical large place with a balcony to watch a movie. I was taken back to those days after our first visit to the Egyptian last Sunday, 2/20/2022. Not many were present to watch the movie, but I could only hope that other events would fill this place up. The sound system was awesome, and the view from up top was a great way to end our weekend in Boise. $10 for a large popcorn and a medium Pepsi was not all that outrageous we thought. Loved seeing the old Telephone sign in the lobby area as we were leaving. Could have seen myself slipping in the dime to call grandma to come pick us up back in the day. A place like this I can always wish will survive and that folks would re-appreciate. Now that we've actually been able to visit, we will look to do so again next time in downtown Boise. read more

Love this place - the movies are fun and typically the performers are top notch. The only performance I didn't enjoy was the Leonid and Friends tour last year. Although the band bills themselves as a tribute to the band Chicago, they played only 2, maybe 3, Chicago songs. The rest of the music I didn't recognize and was a lot of (in my opinion) pretty heavy on the metal side. Except for this one performance, all the other acts have been incredible. read more

We have attended several movies at the Egyptian lately. Each visit was great. The crowds were there because they wanted to be there and truly enjoyed the movies. It was so much fun to hear the crowd enjoy the movies with true laughter and cheering. At other theaters it seems some people are there just to be there and not truly enjoying the movie. Our most recent visit was to see Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick back to back, a lot of fun. The bonus is a cash bar with wine and beer. If you are looking for a fun evening in Boise, you would be hard pressed to do better than the Egyptian Theartre. read more

The theatre itself was really unique and cool however the showing was shit. The bathroom however was out of paper towels. My fiance and I went to see Rocky Horror Picture Show, nothing but a bunch of crappy untrained actors (half of them appeared to be homeless). We received NO EMAIL about the meet and greet we paid for and ended up missing it. We mentioned it and only received the lanyards (which were included in the price), the poster (which was also included in the price), and two tickets to the next concert of our choice which we have yet to receive. We will NOT be viewing anymore audience participation events here, however we will give the showing one last try. UPDATE: Despite trying to call (the phone kept going to voicemail) they never gave us the tickets as promised. We are severely disappointed read more

First they stripped the Egyptian name in favor of the blander than bland Ada Theater. Then, in the 1970s they looked to tear it down, all in the name of redevelopment. Thankfully, a public protest ensued and the theater remained. Then the original name returned. It's just as great of a show house as it was when I was a child. I marvel at it each time I return. It's a wonderful community asset. I've seen countless movies here, the Boise Greenbelt celebration and even legendary New Orleans musician Trombone Shorty. read more

I absolutely adore this independent downtown theatre! I have been here on multiple occasions. I have seen poetry readings/lectures here (Mary Oliver), mainstream movies, and have been on several occasions to see Boise Classic Movies classic movie series here. The Egyptian first opened its doors in 1927 and so is a historical and iconic fixture in the heart of downtown Boise. I love the classic style of the architecture. Unlike most modern theaters, there is only one theater and screen inside. It's a large theater, seating 700. And, even with that--there's not a bad seat in the house. For movies, my favorite spot is in the balcony section middle-center, which places the screen directly in front of you (no having to look up or down). For other sorts of events (poetry readings, lectures, concerts), I would prefer the floor somewhere near the front. They have concessions and, for the Boise Classic movie series (and other special events), they bring in a mobile bar that serves beer/wine. The last time I was there, the beer offerings included Payette Brewing, which, yum (three cheers for Mutton Buster Brown Ale!). The regular concessions are actually reasonably priced (when compared with other more standard theaters). The last time I was there, I ordered a small popcorn, candy, and two drinks which came to $10. Bonus? They pop their popcorn in coconut oil (awesome!). Get to it! read more

A couple of weeks ago my wife purchased tickets online for a magic show. However she mistakenly purchased them for that evening (which was a comedy show) and not the magic show on the next evening. She immediately knew her mistake and called the theater's box office within five minutes of purchasing the tickets. The person on the other end of the line said she would talk to her manager and did not think there would be a problem of getting our mistake refunded. So far no refund even after leaving a follow-up voice message several days later. I get so frustrated with businesses that don't follow-up or follow through! read more

I love the Egyptian Theater. It hosts Boise Classic Movies like the Big Lebowski, The Shining, and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I've just seen movies here, until Tuesday. Tuesday, I attended Welcome to Night Vale on their All Hail tour. I cannot divulge details about this show, I don't want to spoil it for others. This was a great venue for Welcome to Night Vale, small enough to feel exclusive but still enough space to melt into the crowd. Every seat is a good seat. Floor seats are great to be closer to the action for live shows and I prefer the upper level for movies. The seats are comfy and the theater is clean. This theater was built in the 20's with inspiration from the discovery of king Tuts tomb (more info on their webpage). Its a charmingly nostalgic, slightly kitschy, historical Theater. I don't usually get anything from the concessions although I hear about epic lines. Exiting the building is tricky as well, there is a bottleneck of people, as it's an older building and space is limited in the lobby. I would definitely see movies or live performances here in the future. read more

Since it's in the heart of downtown, it's easy to get a good bite to eat and a drink before your show/event. Inside the venue is nice, too. It's a large venue decorated like the Egyptian Time Period. There isn't a seat in the house that I could consider "bad". The only thing about the Theatre is how small the lobby is. When ordering a drink, it's impossible to get through the crowd and many people often come into the show late-- but what do you do? The Egyptian Theater brings back some fond memories. I worked there before the renovation when it was a Cineplex Odeon during Titanic and The Truman Show. I worked in concessions and the theater always felt like I was at my grandparent's house. They are both really old buildings and have that old house smell. Listening to the organ play music before the movie made the experience so much fun. Before the renovation the seats were not very comfortable. Now the theater has cozy blue seats. I am not sure, but I think the organ is not in front of the auditorium. That is a little disappointing because I think it is one of the highlights. On opening day after renovating the building they played The Prince of Egypt. It was so much fun because admission was 10 cents, I am a huge fan of the movie, and I got to see how much work was done to the theater. I visited for the first time in years to watch Purple Rain back in 2016. Boise Classic Movies holds their movie shows here and it is not disappointing. The movies are celebrated here and it is like a huge party. They also have concerts. Mavis Staples came here to perform; I was unable to attend. I think it would be interesting to watch a concert at The Egyptian. read more

Absolutely beautiful old theater in Boise! I was lucky enough to attend a showing of "It's A Wonderful Life," a few weeks back! The theater is immaculate, I can imagine seeing great bands play here, maybe a theater show, or a classic Movie! The seats are comfy for how old the theater is, and even sitting up in the balcony I had an amazing view of the screen! The sound was really great as well! The staff and the concessions stand was super nice and helpful, and the popcorn and rootbeer hit the spot! The place was super clean and well maintained! I love all the Egyptian decor and art as well! This is a gem of a place and Im so stoked I got to come and check it out! I hope I return someday! read more

Sure, I'm a Boise native and grew up going to movies at the Egyptian. So nostalgia plays into this review. But even without it, I'm hard pressed to think of a more atmospheric movie theater in Boise! Gold-leafed Egyptian pseudo-pillars and reliefs decorate the area around the screen and stage. They're eye-catching and impressive. Even more so when you hear this gem from the '20s was nearly demolished! Seating is newer and comfy enough. Concessions are basic popcorn and soda fare. Not quiet as spendy as pricing in the big movie theater chains but creeping up there. Come here for a BCM showing (Boise Classic Movies) and heckle the screen alongside other Boiseans. Such a fun spot, and an absolute staple to downtown Boise! I've been attending shows, and events here since I moved to Boise back in 2011, and it still hasn't gotten old. This spot is immaculately decorated on the inside and provides an entertainment experience that stands out amongst the rest. There is a ground seating area as well as a raised area that gives you a broader view of the theatre itself. Additionally, their restrooms are well-kept and clean (at least they have been whenever I've been here), and they have a concessions stand where you can get popcorn, refreshments, and candy (depends on the event)! read more

My wife and I had tickets to the Punch Brothers show but due to unforeseeable events my wife was in a leg cast. My husband and I went to The Egyptian for the first time on Saturday, and we had such a fantastic time. All of the event staff was friendly and helpful, and the theater was clean and gorgeous inside. What a gorgeous little indie theater in the heart of Downtown Boise! Beyond regular screenings of movies this theater also hosts special events and screenings. I happened to be here for a classic movie night and it was a ton of raucous fun. Lots of laughing, lots of singing a long, and more. The concessions here are pretty great, too and you can even take beer/wine into the theater! Super cool feature. I loved enjoying a movie with a chilled glass of wine in my cup holder. Parking on the street is free after 5pm but there are garages nearby as well if the timing doesn't work out. We parked just a block away and enjoyed a brief walk here. It's also centrally located so it's fun to see a movie and go out elsewhere downtown afterwards. read more

Been here twice now, so I feel like I can give a good review. Both times, I have been here for one of their Boise Classic Movies showings and have had a great time! The seats are comfy, the theater is clean, and the audience is always cheerful, exciting, and fun. I will warn that the concessions line is quite long before the show starts. I would wait until the show starts, sneak out and grab your popcorn. Also the concessions is CASH ONLY. Just something to be prepared for before you come. The location of the theater is awesome especially if you want to grab a bite to eat beforehand. We grabbed happy hour/dinner at Mai Thai a couple blocks away when we came. Give it a try! Even though the lobby area is a bit confusing, the building and performances are always showcased in such a great way in this space! I feel bad for whoever has to change the marque on the front, there is something new every single night which is VERY impressive! I love that they do the silent movie organ movies from time to time and this is where you can catch classic movies that almost always sell out and get to relive those fun moments with other people who love these same movies. The seats are comfy and there really aren't bad places to sit with any major obstructions. This is a really fun space and worth a visit!! read more

I love downtown Boise. It is so clean, has very few chains, and filled with quaint old buildings. The Egyptian Theater is a wonderful example of the unique quality of Boise businesses. First opened in 1927 to resemble the newly discovered King Tut's tomb, it went under many renovations since, with the most recent in 1999 which returned it to the Egyptian splendor. The theater has amazing decor, a classic old-style marquis, chandeliers, giant comfy turquoise green seating, and a wonderful stage area. A teensy pricey by my standards- $8 for adult admission for evening shows, but there are discounts for students, seniors, and military. Best of all, they show great movies, you can't catch anywhere else.My bff and I did a double take when we were driving by and saw "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" on the marquis last week and had change our plans to go. Seriously. I hear they make gelato too, but I didn't get to try it since Boise was about negative-2 that night. All-in-all a perfect place to see a fabulous movie & enjoy some quality time with loved ones, while supporting local Boise businesses. read more
