I have lived in Boise for over 30 years and have never been to the Morrison center. Tonight, I finally get to experience Twilight in concert at the center. The event center is beautiful and so big! We sat towards the back half of the event center and it was so nice being able to see the screen and stage. Regardless at how tall the person in front of me was, the staggering of the seats didn't block my view. I'm pretty sure no matter where you are sitting, it's still a great seat. There was a 20 minute intermission for the singer and band members to take a break. Of course we headed to concessions to grab a drink. It was nice how they had it set up. The line went really fast and guests were being helped at a great pace. We were able to get our goodies and head back to our seats pretty quickly. I know there are a lot of events that happen here. I need to be more proactive and see what they are. The venue is so pretty here. The seating is comfortable and nice. It was cool to have my first experience at the Morrison Center tonight. I look forward to coming back again soon for another one. read more

The performance of the Nutcracker was excellent as always. I am constantly inhale of the the athleticism of the dances while creatyng such beauty. What was not awesome this evening was the people that were allowed to enter several minutes late, 6 or 7 of them, Row R or S and sitting pretty much in the middle. The other was people with children not ready for an evening performance, talking through most if the first half, or walking around, very distracting! This IS what the matinee is for, getting them accustomed to being at the ballet. If they can sit quietly for 45 minutes at a time, do nit bring them to an evening performance! Again, to all those who performed, thank you for allowing us to enjoy such beauty! read more

I went to see Hamilton here a couple of weeks ago and it was a great experience. The staff were wonderful in helping us find where to enter the auditorium as we had never been inside before. I can't speak to parking as we rode our bikes in using the Greenbelt, but there are plenty of bike racks in the area to use. There was wine/beer/snacks available for purchase and it was a little expensive, but I feel that's to be expected at a theater venue. Seats were comfortable for sitting for long periods of time. read more

Very nice and large venue. It's nice that parking is included with event purchases (at least Whose Live was). The snack/drink bar has reasonable pricing and the line went fast enough for me to get back to my seat even after the bell announcement was going off to be seated. I love this place. Where you get all the big shows, locally or out of town visits. Our favorite with kids are Row E to view everything happening at stage if it's the nutcracker or any dance show. It's a splurge but life is too short to see dots dancing from a far. It makes it all the more special occasion. Mother daughter date days are such a treat for my girls. It's worth it so they can soak art and learn do appreciate all the varieties it comes in. read more

I wish the staff would get after people immediately for using cell phones during shows! A warning and then ask them to leave on the second occurrence would be great. It was so annoying and disrespectful to the audience while watching a broadway production we paid a lot to see. We purchased season tickets so I'm hoping it'll change for future shows. It wasteful that alcohol drinks are poured from a can into plastic containers. I do like that they serve the drinks and have good brands to choose from. read more

I go to a lot of concerts and shows every year. I like to try different venues. Mostly I'm looking for great sound. Obviously the music should sound great, clear, not tinney, not echoing, but beyond that, I want to be able to clearly hear all spoken word. The musicians, when they talk about how they came up with lyrics, or stories about their journeys and adventures... I want to hear what they're saying, not hear what sounds like they are speaking with several socks stuffed in their mouth! Morrison center has great sound, wonderful seating, a medium sized venue... it's one of my favorites! read more

I love the shows, but I am super disappointed in a university venue for only serving drinks in wasteful plastic cups. Pouring out of aluminum cans into cups for "safety" reasons makes no sense. Shame on you, Morrison Center! read more

19th person to review the Morrison Center, Boise State University, in downtown Boise. This is my 402nd Yelp review. This is an EXCELLENT venue. There is not a bad seat in the house-- honestly. Tonight we saw Swan Lake, the Ballet (will review separately). This was my first time in the venue and it won't be my last. They don't allow food or drink, other than water, in the actual theatre, or video, photos-- so beware. They sell wine and beer $6-9, cookies, truffles and soda, all at affordable prices. The venue is quite large, full of history, and is the place to go for smaller, more intimate shows (not too small). The stage is very large. The first 1/4 of the stage opens up to see below, which the Boise Philharmonic was playing for the live show and we were able to see them play as well (see photos). They have both elevators and stairs. The parking, for me, was very easy. I got there about 30 minutes before my show and I parked right out front and paid the parking meter. Now, I've read the reviews and tips, and parking is often an issue, so maybe I just lucked out. Will call was super quick without any issues. I like this venue and look forward to seeing other shows. read more

Beautiful auditorium and campus setting near the river. We came early for a Lyle Lovett/Robert Earl Keen concert so we got a great parking space. There is a terraced lot nearby. Security didn't check every bag--just "big ones." The lobby was packed. We bought a cookie and drinks (took the water bottle in). We couldn't wade through the crowd to get to the bathrooms. I was told by an employee that there are women's bathrooms on every level but men's bathrooms only on two of the four. Hmm. We were on the aisle near the back. There are no center aisles so dozens of people walked in front of us to get out and back in during the concert. Very annoying. The sound system was fine. No lighting special effects. read more

Beautiful venue that hosts a variety of shows from Boise State Events to Ballet Idaho shows, the Boise Philharmonic, plays, and even some concerts! I've had a lovely experience every time I've attended shows here. The staff is very friendly and eager to help you find your way to your seat (it's a big auditorium so assistance is always appreciated). The bathrooms are well-kept, although there is always a long line for the ladies room - go figure. The lobby of the Morrison Center is almost as lovely as the inside of the auditorium itself--ornately decorated with grand ceilings and large windows. As far as the inside of the auditorium is concerned, I feel that my words would fail to do it justice, so I suggest you look at some of the pictures of it! One of my favorite features of this auditorium is the pit on the stage for a live orchestra. I recently watched a Ballet Idaho show here that featured the Boise Philharmonic. The live orchestra sitting right below the show was a beautiful touch to an already incredible evening! If you are looking for a reason to get dressed up and treat yourself to a swanky night on the town, I suggest getting tickets to a show here! read more

This place is old school but beautiful. While you can buy tickets that place you farther from the stage, there isn't a bad spot in the house. Up close is always better though! Of course! Get dressed up all swanky and feel like you are Cinderella (or Prince Charming) for the night by floating down the layers of staircases looking all glam and fabulous! I promise you, you won't feel alone, many get cutesy for the night out. Don't worry though, there are plenty of people not dressy, so come as you want to be. Everyone is there to enjoy the show, performance, and fun so they don't care what you look like. Accessible seating and parking available. If you are a lady, plan to wait for the restroom more often than not. Enjoy the night out! read more

I've seen a few different shows here: The Nutcracker, Book of Mormon, and recently the Fleetwood Mac tribute band. This venue is great because they offer a variety of different shows. Any seat in the house really does have a decent view, which is wonderful, even if you are all the way in the back. The acoustics are also really great. The music was awesome from the Fleetwood Mac concert, only drawback was the crowd was kind of lame. It's interesting going to a concert like this there because everyone was sitting, where my friend and I wanted to stand and dance! We ended up standing and the people behind us complained which was annoying. Some critiques that would make the Morrison Center better: let us have drinks at our seats, and maybe some cosmetic updates because it is a little dated. But I am excited for the upcoming shows, especially Hamilton hopefully coming in 2020/2021! read more

Ahh, nothing beats live performing arts! I've been to the Morrison Center for the Performing Arts for concerts, plays, and ballet performances. Each performance adding to Life! What I like about the Morrison Center: It's a great venue with quality acoustics and stage lighting. It's in a beautiful location... on the BSU campus right next to the river. Parking is usually a breeze. What I don't like about the Morrison Center: The 'continental seating' makes for a long shuffle to the center of the aisle. The standard overpriced concessions. When you get a chance, check out an event at the Morrison Center and add some life to your life. read more

The Morrison Center is a great gem of Boise. I've been there for concerts, theatre and community events and each time the experience is great. My most recent visit was our annual Christmas Nutcracker experience. There are better seats than others but there is not really a bad seat in the house. The medium sized, intimate atmosphere is comfortable and the acoustics are great. You can see, hear and experience the event no matter where you sit. The only complaint I may have is the limited number of people working the snack areas at intermissions. It backs up really quickly. The other downside is that parking isn't always convenient though the new parking garage makes it easier. Overall, I feel like this is a venue that eventually has an event for everyone. The center is nice but outdated. A little cosmetic update would be nice and needed. However I find the overall direction for parking to be non-existent. This would apply to both entry and exit. Do not expect any parking attendants to guide parking and or exit. Which means if you make the unfortunate mistake of parking in the parking garage- expect to wait for upwards of 20 minutes before the long line of cars begins to crawl. You might as well tack on an extra 30 mins to your night just for the lack of parking control. read more

Rarely do I see a community theater or performing arts center packed to the brim like this one. You must be doing something right Morrison Center! Maybe it's the fun schedule that appeals to a wide demographic? I was there for Alton Brown, but noticed you had Peter Pan and plenty more in the upcoming schedule. Truly something for everyone. Maybe it's the well-kept facility itself? The seating was comfortable, with the wide aisles and not a bad view in the house. The acoustics were prime, and it didn't feel small town to me in the slightest. Maybe it's the easy parking? It was a snap! Maybe the friendly staff and Docent/volunteers? Very knowledgeable, warm and excited to be there. Whatever the combo, it's a win. Next time I'm in Boise I'll keep an eye on the schedule and shimmy into a seat for sure! read more

I've been there for several events and there some pros and cons. Pros: -The building interior is quite pretty -There are some refreshments and concessions -Good lighting -Seats are comfortable -Some decent shows are put on there Cons: -The staff consists almost entirely of grumpy older women who are quite disrespectful -Concessions are overpriced and do not taste good -The staff's attitude gives the venue a very stuffy and uncomfortable vibe -The rows are very long and there's no center aisle, so you have to do that sideways scoot to get to your seat, which is annoying -You can't bring concessions into the theater Overall you go there to see a decent show and try not to let the rude customer service ruin your night. :/ read more

My first trip to the Morrison Center was to see Lyle Lovette. We arrived near showtime and quickly found our seats with the help of a very nice elder usher. Lucky for us we were seated near the end of the row because as I know now there are no center isles. The acoustics were very good, the seating was cushy and spacious. Lines at the concessions were not organized very well and were too long because of a limited concession staff. But at a smallish venue like this we still managed to get our bevs in fairly short order and get to our seats. Parking was amazingly easy but I am comparing it to the LA theaters where parking is always a crazy challenge. All in all a very nice and chill experience, I will definitely come back. read more

I enjoy attending live performances so much, and when they're at the Morrison Center it becomes even more exciting. This is my absolute favorite venue...bar none!!! I'm 73 years old, and I'm certainly not rich (financially), but I'm proud to say my name is in the lobby binder among the first supporters. I'd be hard-pressed to recall my favorite event, but right up there would be the times I've been able to meet the performers in person and get an autograph. Yes, even standing in the parking lot in freezing weather to meet David Copperfield and in the rain to meet Joan Baez. I started collecting signatures over 60 years ago, and don't plan to quit anytime soon. Just being in the Morrison Center makes me feel special. Thanks to staff for their hospitality! read more

The Morrison Center for the Performing Arts claims to be Idaho's premier performing arts center.The Center opened its doors in April, 1984 and has over 2,000 seats. From the standpoint of what else is available, it probably meets that claim Unfortunately there are several quirks that make this theater a trial to enjoy. This review is not about any performance, as the variety and quality is usually quite good. The theater has excellent lines of sight and acoustics. The stage is large and versatile for any production. This review is based on the experience of being an attendee in the audience. First, the theater has what is called "continental seating" which is defined as a theater seating plan in which there is no center aisle, but with wide spacing between each row of seats to allow for ease of passage. What they fail to state is that some rows exceed about 80 seats in length. So when you pick out your seats when buying your tickets, you have to make a "Devil's Compromise" no matter where you select. If you want to be seated stage center, than unless you get there early, you might have to tread over 30-40 peoples' feet. With the increasing girth of Americans, the width for this passage becomes problematic. On the other hand, if you chose end of row seats, you may be subjected to 30 to 40 people having to pass over you, if you got there early. And of course, for those in the center seats, leaving for a rest room call during the performance is more than disruptive. Since the doors do not open until 30 minutes before the start of a performance, there is going to be the Devil to pay no matter where you sit. Also, the seating pitch/incline isn't high enough to see over the head of the person sitting in front of you, so you'll have to peak over the side of people's heads. For the mobility handicapped, the wheel-chair reserved places appear to be limited. Also access is limited normally to entrances 1, 11, and 12 which are free of stairs. All other theater entrances involve stairs. Elevators are located in the northeast corner of the main lobby, allowing access to the upper levels. You actually have to climb/elevator to the highest level to access the closest rows to the stage and all access is from the sides. While the Morrison Center claims that all restrooms have disability access, it would appear that a wheelchair patron would have to have assistance to leave the theater and could only exit the non stair entrances listed above. Also, on the night we attended, signs indicated that the womens' loos were on floors 2 and 4, while the mens' loos were on floors 1 and 3. I would attend another performance in this theater, but only for something I absolutely, positively needed to see. Otherwise, I am thinking the "Devils Compromise" may be too high a price to endure again, hence the 2 star rating. read more

Attended Brian Wilson's 50th Anniversary Pet Sounds Concert last night, sat in the orchestra pit, something went haywire with the band's sound, they must of lost ability to monitor meaning hear what they were doing, lead singer out of tune sang sharp, Al looking around embarrassed, long time band member Blondie Chapman's guitar was ear exploding noise, something wrong with their wireless my guess, Brian was annoyed, that said the audience didn't care went into a time tunnel trip back to the sixties and everyone once again wearing bell bottoms and long hair bouncing beach balls above their heads didn't care about the audio, I realized how easy we baby boomers got along with things so I settled down but the performance got little weird last night. read more

The Morrison Center is the best theater experience in Boise! I have been there for concerts, dance events, and Broadway theater. Our community is lucky to have this resource in town, bringing national events and acts to our small city. The center was very nice but when I purchased my tickets and made clear that the tickets were ground level. At arrival we found out otherwise. .. so far away you couldn't even make out the face of the garbage comedian. A double screw... not only the seats were shit and cramped but also the comedian was making 5 year old jokes about eating and farting... wtf. Paid waaayyy to much for these bullshit tickets. Even watched a few people leave but was personally trying to be optimistic in hopes it MIGHT get better read more

I was so amazed by the wonderful staff/ushers. We went to the Gaither homecoming show and did not have the right seats for a wheelchair. Many staff helped us figure out what we could do. They rearranged people so that we could sit and watch. Dale went out of his way for us and so did so many others. I thought we were going to have to go home with out watching them. I took my kids to see Yo Gabba Gabba and even though I'm not a fan of the show I had a great time! The seats were great, so even though we weren't down front we could still see everything even when the crowd stood up. It was a very clean venue and I was not overly concerned when my kids decided to crawl on the floor after the show. I would definitely recommend checking out a performance at the Morrison Center! read more

I want to preface this by saying I came from Portland Oregon to Boise- therefore I have been previously spoiled having had the Civic Auditorium as my venue for stage events musical and dramatic. :) That being said.. I have found the Morrison Center rivals the Civic in many ways, AND (in terms of parking) is even a smidge better! I have experienced seating in all parts of the Morrison and I've yet to find a seat that was 'bad'. I can't say I'm impressed entirely with the way seat access was designed, as full solid rows with no aisles and the 'Hogwarts' type stairwell plans to access seats- BUT the Morrison is neither cavernous nor cramped. I do have to throw out a hug BOO for the restroom situation as well and wonder why OH WHY the powers that be do not (after a fashion) allow women to use the mens room about when it seems the fellas are done.. a fifteen minute intermission is not long enough to ascend/descend from your seat find a restroom, wait in line and get back to your seat. Though I'll end with a THANK YOU as the Morrison now allows people to take bottled water into the auditorium (provided you buy it there). I also love the scenery on the river side of the Morrison.. it make for charming access and egress to the auditorium proper. read more

The Morrison Center is on the Boise State campus next to the Boise River, and the surrounding area has nice landscaping and scenic views. The theater has about 2,000 shoulder-height seats and an incredibly large stage. It's a nice theater built in 1984, so the architecture and decor is a little dated. The theater and bathrooms were clean. I give the theater four-stars because of the viewing from the seats. The seating pitch/incline isn't high enough to see over the head of the person sitting in front of you, so you'll have to peak over the side of people's heads. We watched "War Horse," and I sat in the Door 7 area, aisle "X" seat 35, almost to the back of the theater. I prefer to sit in the back where I can see and experience the whole theater. If you want to hear the actors, then I suggest sitting closer to the front. I'm a little hearing-impaired, and I don't think the production we watched used any microphones to amplify the actors' voices. The staff and ushers were friendly and helpful collecting our tickets and directing us to our seat. I did find it strange that they made a point to have security at the doors that were only briefly peeking in large bags; and then telling people that offered their bags that it was small enough not to be checked. read more

Amateur hour in Boise! No sound check prior to show. Waited 30 minutes then only swapped out voice mikes for very poor replacements. No miking of piano or guitar. Sound was harsh & distorted. No one at the mixing board? Never go for a concert there. Too amateurish! read more

I was very disappointed with the Morrison Center when attending The Lion King. We had a 6 week old baby with us and were told the ticket office could comp us a ticket for him just for fire reasons/head count. Not a problem. We arrived plenty early. We spent 20 minutes between the ticket office and ushers with them trying to find a ticket that hadn't been scanned yet. Without any luck we were told we would need to BUY yet another ticket for him and were asked if he wanted a seat. HE'S 6 WEEKS OLD and obviously can't watch the show. Eventually we got the manager involved who informed us we could go right in without a ticket, but by that point there was a hold on the doors. We missed the entire beginning of the show because of a very disorganized process. On top of that the ushers couldn't figure out when the hold was over. We were told we could finally go in. Then they stopped us. That happened 3 times between different ushers before we finally made it. I really enjoyed the rest of the show but it was extremely disappointing to miss so much at the start due to the disorganization of the ticket office. read more

I have held season tickets for Broadway productions in another midsized city and have enjoyed musicals in many different venues in the U.S. and abroad. This is simply the worst designed theater I have ever attended. Since every row are solid seats from one side of the theater to another with no aisles, access is ridiculously complicated. You actually have to climb to the highest level to access the closest rows to the stage and all access is from the sides. Acoustics are adequate but the sound level of the audience during funny shows will drown out the actors. The bathrooms, like many theater, have long lines during intermission. Site lines are good but the best are in the center and you have to step over 30-40 people to get to them. Going to the bathroom during a performance would be disruptive and blasphemous! A very austere, plain theater. Kuna High has a better facility. Boise you deserve better! read more
