Saved by Ehrhardt Brothers Quality Plumbing! (West of Baltimore, a.k.a ColumbiaPlumber) Sunday evening, our water felt less hot than usual. Monday, it was only as warm as we keep the house, and only as much water as there is in the pipes! Our gas water-heater failed! Bad timing, too. Last week was what Chicago calls Fools'-Spring ... around 70°. But this week was back to Second-Winter, 30° (Mar 2026). And the next warm days, which Chicago calls the "Spring-of-Deception", is still ten days away. There was water leaking from the heater. This is considered the calm before the 50-gallon tsunami. If this is home-remedy advice, First call a friend who has successfully navigated this problem. Next shut off the gas and then the pilot. Next shut off the water inlet. Your friend will have at least one plumber to recommend. (They will enjoy that...) If your garden hose isn't frozen to the spigot, drain the water tank. If frozen, spend a sleepless night with the 24/7 plumber's number on speed-dial. We chose #2.  We made it through the night. Two of our friend's recommendations were small-businesses, our preference, and we asked all three for quotes and availability. Ehrhardt was ready to offer a price based on our descriptions and photos, of course with caveats for anything unexpected. I considered their bid to be a pretty-penny, but I'll say it was less than our friend's expectation, and more than our friend in Cleveland expected. A fair price. They came the next morning, and it might have been sooner if we had called right away. We cleared a path for them through the house, and they had the water heater replaced in 90min. Impressive. We went out for St. Pat's. But what we should have done was what they told us: check the pilot light for about 30min, and test the hot water after 60 to 90min. We came home to cold water. I'll admit some grumpiness. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We called in the morning, and they came back in a jiffy (our apologies to everyone else who had appointments that day).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In 30min, they figured it out: a faulty pilot in the new, just-unboxed water heater. They had a replacement part over-nighted. The next morning, in 30min, done. This time we did as told: checked the pilot after 20min (and nervously, an extra time again after that). Still lit! The second time we checked, the hot water outlet was noticeable warm. By 60min, hot water from the faucets! By 90min, much to relief of nearly everyone i know, a piping hot shower. AAAAAHHH :-) Ok, so how does three visits equal 5-stars! The hardest question answered first: Because the problem was the manufacturer's fault, and Ehrhardt handled it flawlessly: [[HIGHLIGHT]]Excellent communication by Ehrhardt, priority attention to our problem, no excuses, just fast resolution.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great service staff, from the office to my house. 100% CROOKS! ROBBERS! THIEVES! I had a leak in the hose to my kitchen faucet hose. It was leaking on the floor, so I called these frauds and they sent some clown over to tell me the part needed to be replaced (as if the leaking water wasn't a dead giveaway). But he didn't have a replacement part and he couldn't order one either. He advised me to order one from the manufacturer and then call him back over to install it. I ordered the part, not from the manufacturer, but from a much cheaper 3rd party retailer. It arrived and I decided to install it myself. Problem solved. Two months later... These extortionists called me and asked when I was going to contact them to request installation services. I told them I bought the part myself and installed it myself. Then they informed me that they were billing me $120 for that "insightful" house call back in January. ABSOLUTE ROBBERY! DO NOT HIRE THESE CROOKS! Getting new appliance after a decade plus in an older home in HoCo so of course there will be hidden issues with plumbing. I was told by Home Depot that my gas line was not up to code and needed some work done to get it there before my new gas stove arrives. Once my new appliances arrived, I found out that my dishwasher set up had a leaky valve and Home Depot would not install the dishwasher, I reached out to Ehrhardt gain to complete this job as well and also had them on standby for my refrigerator if Home Depot refused to install it. Called them after hours and left a message, and they returned my call at 7:30AM the following morning, and by 8:15am they had a plumber to my house (believe they are based in Columbia, MD). I decided to install a new under sink water filter. Only, I ended up not being able to get the old one out, and split the line in the process. This meant our kitchen sink no longer had cold water. I called Ehrhardt Bros and told them I bought one of those easy to install water filters. Laughing ensured. It made be feel a bit better to know I'm not alone in my home improvement ineptness. He told me he would check the tickets that came in, and triage my request, since not having a functional kitchen sink isn't fun. It turns out they were available at noon and in the area. (sorry Wayne if I cost you your lunch break). He was gone before 1 and had the new filter installed, and while he was here he also bent a cut off valve that was getting caught on the garbage disposal, loosened another stuck valve and have me pointers on maintaining my hot water heater. I would personally recommend another company. I scheduled them for an 8AM appointment and the workers were 30 minutes late without providing any notification. They were able to successfully resolve the issues using a specific tool for the job. However, after the job was completed in .40 hours (40 min) they attempted to bill me for 1.25 hours + the service for the specific tool called the "snake". After bringing it up to the support team of this .45 hour (45 min.) discrepancy billed at $180.00 an hour, the logic was "we tend to start billing on arrival" even though the workers were already late and stayed in the vehicle for 10 minutes before coming to the front door and 10 minutes writing up the job invoice. I have no problem with paying for services rendered. I didn't see the reason for arguing about ill-advised business practices. However, as a customer and Business Owner, I believe falsifying working hours is not a respectable practice and for this reason, I would encourage anyone to use another company. I called Ehrhardt Brothers because I had a leak under my kitchen sink. Before calling, I tried flipping the switch to the disposal, and there was no power, so I checked my fuse box. I thought the source of the leak might be my garbage disposal, so I inquired about the cost of replacing it. . The person who answered the phone at Ehrhardt suggested that I speak to Mr. Erhardt directly and he promptly came to the phone to talk with me. [[HIGHLIGHT]]He suggested that I email him a photo of the area underneath my sink so he could see what was going on.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I sent him the email with the photo and he said that the garbage disposal looked new and that I should press the reset bottom and use an Allen wrench to dislodge anything that may have jammed the disposal. I had tried to do both of these things before we spoke, without success, but I tried doing this again. Sure enough, there was something stuck in my disposal and when I tapped the allen wrench with a rubber mallet, I was able to get my disposal moving, saving me the time and expense of hiring a plumber. I am a customer for life now. He could have sent someone out and charged me a $200 service call, but instead chose to be a really good guy and help me over the phone. Our fourth time working with this company and they're still batting a thousand. This time we called them out to investigate a possible leak (given an unusually high water bill). Vince inspected all the possible culprits and confirmed that a ghost-flushing, intermittently running toilet was the problem. He replaced all the tank hardware in that toilet and in another toilet he identified as due for hardware replacement. I called the day before thanksgiving to have a kitchen faucet removed and replaced. They told me they could come on Black Friday. I was grateful as their website said they would be closed. A few hours later, they got back to me and said they could be here in an hour. I received five quotes for a simple kitchen faucet installation and received flat pricing from several vendors from anywhere between $295-$350 and "we'll need to charge for an estimate and then give you a price" type estimates.
