Absolutely positively outstanding! I'm not a fan of buffets but this restaurant is superb! I ate breakfast and lunch there on two different days. They have a huge selection of meats, seafood, vegetables, salads, Indian food, sushi and sashimi, so many desserts with both white and dark chocolate fondue machines. I tried everything that I could. I enjoyed a pot of hot tea with my meals. Their staff was very friendly and accommodating with anything that you need. We loved the breakfast buffet as part of our stay at Cordis! Huge variety of food and drink available and nearly everything was top notch. Staff were all very friendly and did a great job keeping everything clean and well stocked. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate can be ordered with your servers and are then delivered to your table. Other drinks are self service including water, apple juice, pineapple juice, and even fresh squeezed orange juice! The pastries were disappointing, but everything else we tried was delicious. The made-to-order omelets and waffles were expertly cooked, and we also enjoyed the bacon, triangle hash browns, fried rice, yogurt with mango compote, and fresh kiwi fruit. They even have honeycomb and chocolate fountains! Breakfast price was NZ$30 per person as part of our room package. NZ$40 per person otherwise. We attended a birthday dinner for a relative at Eight. My child is anaphylactic to peanut so naturally I was very concerned about the risk of cross contamination at a buffet restaurant. Our dietary requirements were raised when booking, and I also reached out to the restaurant separately. The communication was fantastic, and we were given assurances on what foods were safe. On arrival the supervisor sought us out, and once seated, introduced us to the Head Chef. The Head Chef took us to the food station that we'd planned to order from, reminded the chef on duty, and ensured we were comfortable. He put our mind at ease when he mentioned his partner was also anaphylactic to sesame (?) so he understood our concerns. The head chef checked in multiple times throughout the night, and also brought over a special dessert for my child. The service was above and beyond. This buffet was on the top of just about every list and me being a food critique, I couldn't resist. Know right off the bat, this place is not cheap and will put you in the hole about $75/person. You may be disappointed in my feedback, but I was not impressed. The venue is nice and it's worthy of a place to go on a date, but the food itself is ordinary with the exception of a few selections of unique meat (alpaca, kangaroo, ostrich). They do cook the meat/seafood to your liking which is nice and they have eggs (uncommon) but a lot of it was lacking good flavor. It's also a lot smaller in person than it looks in pictures. The oysters in the seafood category were good, other than that and the meat, nothing else stood out. In New Zealand, Eight at Cordis may be king, but compared to some of the buffets in Las Vegas and Bangkok, this buffet isn't on the top of the charts. read more

I have been to the buffet at Eight three times now. Each time has been excellent! My most recent visit was a few months' ago when I took my older sister for lunch for her birthday. Once I had explained to her the 'Eight' different themed kitchens and how it works, she was super excited. You basically take your seat (definitely recommend booking a table and arriving early), then when the kitchen opens, you can eat as much as you wish from any of the following Eight stations: 1. Seafood & Oyster Bar - think prawns, oysters, mussels and fish (orange roughy, snapper, tarakihi, salmon and many more). 2. Sushi & Sashimi Bar - my absolute favourite station with endless amounts of freshly made sashimi, sushi, miso soup and you can have as much ginger and soy sauce as you like! 3. Indian Tandoori & Curry Kitchen - we tried the paneer curry, beef vindaloo, butter chicken and homemade naan bread. 4. Wok & dim sum corner - they serve steamed buns, dumplings and noodles. 5. New York Style Grill - this is the fun part. You choose anything from the meat cabinet (for example eye fillet, lamb steak, chicken skewer or maybe kangaroo as they once had on the menu), you tell the chef how you like it cooked and it's done! Sizzling hot on your plate and you can add sides to accompany it like roasted vegetables, mashed potato or a variety of sauces. 6. Salad bar - is either 'help yourself' or let the chef toss it up for you. There is such a range of salads, I would say at least 20 different ones! 7. Fresh breads and pastries - I have never paid much attention to this station, because bread fills me up! They do however have a good selection of cheeses to go with the bread if you fancy that. 8. Last but not least, the dessert station. I have slowly learnt that if you want to eat at least three of the desserts, you must try a little bit of everything else (savoury items), and that way you can save room for dessert because you will definitely not want to pass up the chocolate fountain! And all the delectable desserts of course! I dipped melon and marshmallows into the chocolate fountain and then had a crème brulee and panacotta to finish off, while my sister could only fit in a chocolate dipped Movenpick ice cream in a cone! As for the service, it is great. Water glasses were always topped up, plates replenished every time you finished a meal and new cutlery for your next course. Overall, always a great experience. Good and bad! This was an amazing restaurant and we came for two nights, with completely different experiences! Even though the restaurant was busy on both nights. The first night the staff were delightful and helpful, they provided hot plates when asked and mixed and dressed a salad and generally were really helpful with whatever we asked. The display and food was exceptional. However on another night some staff were not helpful, helped ourselves to salad and so no dressings, seafood disappeared very quickly, took wine glasses off the table with out asking! Children running up and down the isles with skewers of food, ice creams etc and no supervision! More like a bun fight than a fine dining restaurant! This was a shame as the food was exceptional but pick your times and nights! read more

Anywhere that offers a chocolate fountain and Movenpick icecream for breakfast gets an automatic 5 stars from me but the rest of their food more than warrents those stars. I had a bunch of different hotel breakfasts on my recent travels and none was in the same league as this. They had an extraordinary selection of options including a big variety of meats and perfectly made pastries. I could have eaten more than well enough from the gluten free section alone if I'd needed to. They even had a chief on hand to make your eggs exactly the way you like them. If going for breakfast doesn't suit but you can't afford the quite hefty price for the lunch or dinner buffet, give the desert buffet nights a try. At the moment it's only $29 for all you can eat desserts. Some of their miniature cakes are incredible. Of course the chocolate fountain and icecream make an appearance. read more

Best buffet I've been too bar none. Made to order pasta, fish and meats. Meats included kangaroo, ostrich and elk along with several interesting dry aged meats. Plus your usuals - lamb in two forms, sausages and several cuts of beef. Also had sushi, cheese/chatcutterie, breads, Indian station,assorted desserts and more that I am forgetting. Two hour time limit was barely enough to try everything we wanted. Price was higher because of holidays which was cheeky since it was not advertised when we initially made the reservation and the only "extra" was a nut cracker with a crown and tape measure(??) inside. I don't understand how this place is rated so high on yelp. The breakfast buffet was one of the saddest buffets I've ever seen in my life. If you're going to pay $39.50 for breakfast, you better walk out full and satisfied. Nope. The buffet selection was so limited, the best thing being the omelette bar. I wish I walked over and took a look at the food before I decided to eat here. The bread pastries had little fruit flies flying over them, I didn't want to eat it. There was a cereal station, yogurt, fruit station, some cured meats and cheese, and very few hot food selection like beans, mushrooms, scrambled eggs - none of which looked appetizing. Service was also very mediocre. The waiter who seated us asked us what we would like to drink and then never brought us our beverages. Had to flag down another waiter to bring us our drinks. This is probably the nicest, classiest and tastiest buffet restaurant I've been to. Ever. It's pricey (close to $100 and over $100 during special events etc) but it is 100% worth the money. The buffet is divided into different areas - meat, cold seafood, hot seafood, chinese, japanese, indian, salads and antipasto, and desert. The food quality is fantastic - as good as a freshly prepared a la carte meal in any top Auckland restaurant. The meat selection is definitely the highlight. The various uncooked meats are presented in a glass cabinet exactly like a butcher and you choose what meat you want and how you want it cooked and it's cooked right in front of you by a chef. The rest of the buffet is fantastic as well. Huge selection of fish (also cooked fresh for you like the meat) and seafood - including oysters. Dim sum, sushi, sashimi, lots of different curries with race, naan and indian condiments. Plenty of beautiful salads and antipasto and cooked vegetables to go with everything. Desert looked good - sweet food isn't really my thing so I left it. You've definitely got to try this place. You'll want to come back again and again. read more

We parked in the building and quickly found a way into the restaurant. Seated, all for about a nano-second and then we were off! My friend showed me the 'kitchens' and then left me to consider what I would consume first. I opted for the sushi. Then after a few deep breaths, I marched toward the Indian dishes, all waiting in their bright orange Le Crueset cookware, ready for me to lift the lid. Back at my table I devoured the tasty Butter Chicken, rice and bread. So good! After this it becomes more of a blur. Chocolate fountains and fruit, dishes of cheesecake and other dainty desserts. Ah! Um, anyway, this pricy lunch time buffet is very good. They have a wide range of food that pleases the most fussy of punters. Seafood, A meat 'kitchen', Indian, Sushi Bar, and still other options. Wow! I was very lucky to be taken to Eight at the Langham for my birthday this year and had the best time. My expectations were high and I was not disappointed. Before we were seated we were given a quick tour of the eight kitchens. The staff were so friendly and attentive. At one point my boyfriend left the table and as I patiently waited for him to return so we could get our next course I was approached by two staff members checking if I was alright and reminding me that it was all you can eat and I should 'get my money's worth' which I thought was lovely. They were also very quick at clearing plates and replacing the cutlery and gave me birthday chocolates (score!). We went in with an eating plan and executed it well. We started with the small entrees, oysters and prawns. Then we hit the meat. Oh the meat. Because it was the start we restrained ourselves and only tried a few of the different meats. If I were to go back I would devote more time to the meat kitchen. Imagine a full butchery and you can choose any piece of meat and have it cooked however you prefer. It was fantastic. After meat was the fish which was OK but not my favourite, then the sushi and sashimi (AMAZING). The sashimi chef is slicing from a whole tuna right in front you so you know it's fresh. At this point my boyfriend was struggling and opted for a cheese plate while I valiantly continued alone with him occasionally picking off my plate. The Indian kitchen was good but I would skip it next time for more prawns, sashimi or meat. I went back to the ham and turkey with roast vegetables, duck fat potatoes and gravy which was really, really good. And finally the desserts. First the hot, the Christmas pudding, and then the many, many cold desserts and chocolate fountain. The desserts are all portioned and I wish could have taken half slices of some of the things as I wanted to try everything. The creme brulee was delicious, as was the Christmas pudding but the other desserts were so-so. All in all it was an amazing experience and a really special way to celebrate my birthday. I feel it was good value for money, especially the sashimi, prawns and oysters. I had been here once before and thoroughly enjoyed it so as the price is not too bad and it was a special occasion , being my birthday , we thought why not splash out a little and come back again for lunch. Most people who come here I think will already know why it is called Eight so need to go explaining that. I think that some of the previous reviewers explain it perfectly those who do. I love these places where the food is cooked for you in front of you, at least you know nothing dodgy is going on in the kitchens with the food. ( on a side note even though it has never put me off eating in some of them , I have over time seen to many unmentionable things taking place in restaurant kitchens that would surely break all the hygiene laws ) Thus the beauty of seeing it cooked from raw right in front of you. Of course I sampled every section except the Indian one, as Indian food has little appealed to me. The chefs perfectly cooked the meat I selected as I desired, as was the fish. the lady on the salads did a fantastic job of mixing together a salad consisting of all the ingredients I chose. The oysters were delicious as I would have expected , and the deserts of which were a good selection gave me a tough time choosing ( partly because I really am trying to adhere to a diet of sorts ) Eventually though I gave in to a decent helping of both the chocolate pudding and bread & butter pudding. Later I tried a few of the smaller ones like the soufflé .... Also I tried one of the Langham's own pure lagers. Not bad at all. Overall no complaints about the food and we walked away quite full. Go to this place for a lunch experience you will never forget. At $50 a head, you might think that it's pretty steep, but far out it is as close to heaven as I have been thus far. I should add that it's all you can eat. Ahhh all of a sudden $50 doesn't sound so bad does it? So what happens here is you walk into this room in the back of the restaurant, and you then find yourself in fine dining paradise. There are all these individual areas that serve different cuisines from all over the world; you have seafood, meats, oriental dishes, salads, breads and pastries, all with chefs in the kitchen waiting to cook whatever you want, however you want it. Sounds great right? Hell yeah it does. After you have finished filling your tummy with as much as you can eat, then comes the best part; Dessert! Yep, they have a dessert fridge too with all of these little fancy dessert things that are so damn good. I've been saving up $50 for my next visit ever since. read more

We had a group of 10 adults for dinner at 8. Booking the table, i emailed via the website but after 3 - 4 days and no reply i called to confirm. They advised me that they were unsure why i did not receive an email back but she then booked me in over the phone and i paid the deposit via email. We arrived and were seated, immediately and the waiter and waitress that looked after us over our time there were lovely, constantly filling up water glasses and clearing away plates. They were friendly and did a great job. The choice in food was a little underwhelming if i'm honest, for the price per person, i was really expecting more. There were a few pizzas, pasta dishes, Indian selection and sushi, the grill area had a long line for most of the time we were there - so if you dont mind waiting around for a while thats good, there was a good selection of seafood - altho i dont eat seafood others did and enjoyed it. The dessert bar was probably the best part, the creme brulee was good, the chocolate fountain was impressive and there seemed to be a good selection of desserts. In saying that, i probably wouldn't go back to Eight. Altho the waiters were good and there was a good mix of food available - the parking was a little tricky (altho, you expect that in the city) the buffet space was quite small and a general consensus was that we didn't think it was amazing enough to charge $128.00 per person. I've been spoilt coming here as this is a work client who takes us here for lunches during the year, so when it comes to 'value for money' and the like- I'm not able to say. I didn't part with my hard earned funds for this place although I have heard it is very pricey? To sum it up, it's a lavish version of a buffet. Everything is fresh as bloody fresh can be. Sushi is made in front of you. Meat is selected by you and cooked to your liking. Lush bowls of curry and naan to help yourself to. And the iconic chocolate fountain (which let's be honest, it looks pretty but go for the steamed chocolate fondant pudding and custard instead ok) It's a great place for a buffet experience. Once for breakfast, when I got the buffet. And once for what I guess turned out to be lunch, for a burger. Both were pretty good but nothing amazing. Nothing to write home about. Barely anything to write Yelp about. I saw dim sum steamer baskets in the buffet area and I got very excited, but I found out that it was only for lunchtime so I didn't get to have any. When I had my burger it was around 3pm and one of the workers was vacuuming for almost half of my meal. I know that you have to vacuum sometime so I get it...but I also don't have to like it. Not even the guy who invented the vacuum would want to hear a vacuum running during his lunch. Maybe just replace the carpet with a hard floor surface. Then your clean-up job could be nearly silent! It doesn't make any sense to have carpeting in a restaurant anyway. You're just asking for it. read more

I had a late-night Wednesday dinner at the Langham at the rather astonishing price of $80 for a buffet style meal, which is priced at an even steeper $90 at the weekend. The dining experience and the quality of the food, however, was as impressive as the price tag. Eight is named for the same number of kitchens and styles of cuisine it has running in parallel. You can, for example, walk up to the meat or seafood counter, pick your fresh meat or fish, and have it cooked to your liking right in front of you. You can then sample curries, roasts, sushi, desserts, the list is endless. Perfect for those with champagne tastes, deep pockets and a large appetite. read more

This is a buffet with 8 stations; Indian, seafood, salad, meat, desert, Indian, Japanese, bread. My favourite thing of the night I had to say was the chocolate chip naan! Best thing ever! Also the sushi is so good I'm now craving it! Not the cheapest place to crave though. Very good for special occasions and is 5 star all the way. For someone visiting Auckland, this restaurant is a tourist trap. The buffet is beautiful and delicious but it costs $105 NZ per person. Apparently, tourists pay this premium price while locals get a big discount. They also have an al a carte option with more affordable food... BUT the serving sizes for most are laughably small and they warn you that it takes about 45 minutes to prepare it. Supreme. Just divine. Dinner and breakfast were included in our hotel reservation, and it was so so so worth the cost! We had drinks before dinner at Palm Court (the hotel lobby bar), and they not only transferred our tab, they took us to the restaurant and got us a special quiet and dark corner (we were celebrating our wedding anniversary). Food was fantastic, went to the meat bar twice and both times the meat was cooked perfectly to my order. Such a range - asian and indian, sushi and sashimi, good seafood and shellfish, meat bar that they cook to order, salad bar, and full dessert bar including a chocolate fountain (OMG!). Breakfast had egg station, including omelets cooked to order, and a crepe station.... nutella crepes on order - yay! Cold cuts, cereals, yoghurts etc, juices, bakery stuff. All delicious and perfect. An interesting take on buffet style dining. It's expensive but as my brother treated me, I can't complain too loudly. The food is arranged by types of cuisine, eg, desserts, sushi, curry etc. I pretty much just ate sushi and dessert as nothing else on offer really tickled my fancy. The sushi was very good, the desserts were not as pleasing although I suspect this is because my palate prefers European dairy products (yes, yes I hear the shocked exclamations about NZ grass fed cows vs grain fed blah blah blah). My favourite was the toffee cheesecake, because how can you go wrong with cheesecake? Everything is nicely presented in small portions as you'd expect from gourmet dining . Really it's worth a try once, but if you are a repeat diner, I can only assume you're loaded or you can pack away food like there is no tomorrow. read more

A little music would be nice if I am to be honest, but its not a problem. Good and relaxed feel and a great way to start the morning. 4/5 stars. Service: Very fast and very polite. There is nothing like starting the off the morning with kind staff. The Langham anyway generally has very good staff. If you havent been to this place before, the food is cooked to order, so everything is fresh. There is an eggs station, a pastry station and so fourth. All stations were quick and all stations presented good food. No complaint here from me. 5/5 stars. The Food: I keep it simple for breakfast really, I ordered an omelette with a bit of everything. To my suprise, she whipped the whole thing out in about a minute flat! the omelette was golden and the cheese was just melting. The rest of the food that was out on display was your generic breakfast food: Mushrooms, bacon, sausages, tomatoes and potatoes. The extensive bread section was quite the display and it all looked like it was baked fresh. The pastry section was very good too, however, they mixed the sweet pastries with the savoury, which was weird. Not too big of a problem, then again, I dont want to spend time looking to see which ones are which. My only criticism was the cook that was at the waffle and crepe station didnt really know what he was doing and the crepe I ordered turned into a mushy pancake. The cooking of the crepe was wrong too, he seemed confused on how to spread the batter and instead of getting a thin crepe, it was quite thick. 4/5 stars. Summary: All in all, I do love this place and its great food. There is nothing like just good homestyle food cooked right (well, barr the crepe station). I definitely would go back and I am revving up to go to the dinner at some point. I've only visited Eight at The Langham for breakfast. Both experiences were magnificent, so I can only imagine what lunch and dinner would be like. My breakfasts with Eight have come included in packages we've purchased during our stay at The Langham. Otherwise its around $39 for a full breakfast ($28 for continental) at Eight. It's an all you can eat and drink breakfast destination that caters for any and all food lovers. I had the best time eating two type of eggs, croissants and french pasties galore, and well as a couple of great tasting mochas and hot chocolates. There are also several juice dispensers, an array of fresh fruit and every other breakfast food you could think of. In the end, when you've reflected on everything you've had, you're likely to realise your $39 was well spent. And with a running time of 6am to 11am, its a good idea to get there early and have a couple of breaks between your courses to really make your trip worthwhile. There's even a small section of ice cream and a flowing chocolate fountain for anyone with a 24/7 sweet tooth. Lunch and dinner are much more expensive, but rightfully so. With eight kitchens and the biggest buffet selection to choose from, its no wonder why. read more

It's called Eight because there are Eight kitchens. That's what I was told when I walked in, completely unsure what I was to expect. I think it took me ten minutes to pick my jaw up off the floor. Eight kitchens all waiting too cook up whatever food you desire. I started with the salad kitchen, pointing out exactly what i wanted in my salad. Our first time there was on my husband birthday. Dang, what an upgrade from the previous buffets I've been to. I felt like I was completely in another world. The world of the rich lol. The restaurant was itself spoke for itself. From its dim light giving off that romantic feeling. All tables in a row but huge spaces in between for privacy for you and your lovey dovey. The buffet area was off the hook. Everything was just magnificent. They have their ow chefs standing behind each section waiting to serve you. Cooking your food according to your liking.
