Having lived in San Jose and San Francisco, I've been on the other side of the bay and tried everything south to north. I think eight grams is #1 or #2 in the east bay. It's between this place and Yume Nori. I think I would choose this place due to size, quality, and consistency. You really get bang for your buck, high quality drink, fast and efficient service, and it's cute. 10/10 this is my go to matcha spot and I drive just to get my fix!
I got it via Uber Eats. So I didn't get my drink right away but through delivery wow it's good. The flavor withheld throughout the delivery. It's not too sweet or milky. It's literally just right. Now I can't wait to actually go to the cafe and the matcha in real time. I ordered a double match latte and so far so good.
Came with a friend on a weekday, we found meter parking around the corner from the shop. There were 3 devices to input your order. There was also a order guide above the devices to tell the customer a little bit about each drink. There was also another display of the different kinds of matcha blends that you could choose for your matcha drink. I decided to try the Einspanner with kuro blend since I like my matcha to have more depth. I had it 75% sweetened since that was recommended. After ordering and paying, we only waited a few minutes before our drinks were ready. I feel the matcha did have depth to it. The house cream that was on top was a little too rich for me. I wonder how the other matcha types would taste in a latte.
Eight Grams is a winner in my eyes! With all the matcha spots in Berkeley, this is definitely a top contender: great matcha quality, offerings, and efficient service. I chose the seasonal Pink Guava Matcha and got the Golden Banana Matcha for my friend. For the matchas, you can choose or upgrade your matcha blend, which is neat! You can also adjust the sweetness and ice level, and choose your milk option. I went for the house blend and Oat Milk. My drink was superb! The matcha was bright and of great quality. Loved how the guava shone through and had a nice sweetness. My friend enjoyed her drink! I can't wait to come back. If you're a matcha lover, Eight Grams Matcha is worth a visit. Being across Cal, it's easily accessible by walking or public transportation. Find them off Bancroft Way with garage or street parking nearby.
Now that school is out and Berkeley is a bit empty I finally got a chance to visit Eight Grams! I got the guava series matcha latte with vanilla foam and it was so good. Refreshing and handwhisked, plus matcha sprinkle on top all combined perfectly in my mouth. I got my mom the coconut water and matcha and she said it was so refreshing. The parking can be difficult but nearby streets and paid parking are available, I recommend coming early in a Sunday so that you don't have to pay for parking. We went at 10am and it wasn't too busy but an hour later the crowd started trickling in. Workers are really nice, they have kiosks but I did not see any bathrooms. Add eight grams to your list!
My husband went to Eight Grams Matcha three times within about a month or so. We don't even live close by, so it's worth the drive for us. We appreciate when our matcha drinks are more matcha-y than milky. The Golden Banana Matcha and Matcha Einspanner are both tasty, but a bit on the sweeter side. I would love it even more if I can adjust the sweetness level down just a notch. I think my go-to drink will be the Double Matcha Latte. It's the perfect balance of matcha and sweetness level for me. The Pink Guava Matcha is part of a limited series, which I really enjoyed. It's refreshing and the guava isn't too overpowering nor too subtle. It's be dangerous if we lived closer. We'd probably come here once a week!!
Real matcha and expensive. With alternative milk and any extra toppings, you're looking at a $10+!! While my first drink didn't hit, when I ordered again for delivery, it was better. But also $16 (including delivery fee). The second order I got was strawberry matcha with oat milk and mochi. Mochi was like a pudding at the bottom. It's good quality matcha and I like that they offer three different kinds. The overall drink was kind of mid for the hefty price tag, imo.
I got the double matcha. I liked the short line and quick turnaround time. There are about 5-6 tables in the shop if you wanted to sit or hang out with friends. I'm a matcha fiend so I LOVE trying new matcha places. The double matcha was a let down because it was more milk than matcha. I'm someone who likes a strong matcha flavor especially if I'm ordering a double. I'll give this place another shot next time because they have different matcha options (at an extra cost). I only tried their house blend.
8 Gram Matcha is so good! I always get the Matcha Einspänner with matcha cream and it's super creamy without the cream completely mixing into the matcha, which I personally prefer. I also get the Matcha Cheesecake latte too. The matcha flavor still comes through really well. It's a small shop, but they're always super quick and efficient. I really wanted to like 8 Grams, but was incredibly disappointed by their drinks. Based on the cashier's recommendation, I ordered their 8 Grams Einspänner with the Kiso house blend. The drink was overwhelmingly sweet and hindered the velvety matcha flavor from coming out. While it does seem quite popular, I would only recommend to those who like a hint of matcha, but prefer their drinks more dessert-tasting.

They also had three seasonal drinks that incorporated lychee and pink guava. You order on tablets and you pickup your order when your number is called and texted to you. There are many tables in the shop for you to enjoy your drink. I ordered the Golden Banana Matcha. When ordering, you select your level of sweetness, ice, and milk type. You can taste the matcha with the blended bananas in it. It has just the right sweetness for me. I loved my drink and will be back to try another one of their offerings.
Right across from the hustle and bustle of the famous UC Berkeley campus, this location is perfect for meeting up with friends, studying, and enjoying a lil pick-me-up matcha! This location is clean, minimalist, and has plenty of seating. They have about 4 kiosks to place orders and offer a wide range of matcha and coffee drinks. One feature uniquely distinct to Eight Grams is they offer four different blends of matcha -- kiso (house blend), sabai (bright blend), haku (balanced blend), and kuro (reserve blend). I ordered the Lychee Guava Refresher with the kuro (reserve blend) which was about $1.25 extra. This matcha blend is on the floral side and has a more delicate, tea forward flavor. I absolutely LOVED my drink.. 5/5! The matcha was super refreshing, very smooth, fruity, floral, umami, and earthy (in the best way possible). The perfect drink to cool off after record shopping and sonny angel hunting downtown. I will definitely be coming back to this location and am already set on trying their Cheesecake Matcha Latte next time!
one of the few times I've had hojicha, but this place did not disappoint. very cute cafe right in front of Cal. Was a bit crowded on a Saturday afternoon but managed to find seating. Modern/minimalist interior. ordered on a kiosk and drinks were out in less than 10 mins. - Hojicha Latte 5/5: tasted very earthy with the perfect amount of sweetness (no adjustments). - Honeycomb Latte 4/5: matcha was leaning towards the bitter side. It was hard to mix in the honeycomb/eat it on its own. Would probably try a diff matcha next time. All in all would come back to this cafe, street parking right in front, or you can walk from downtown Berkley.

This is my sister and fiancé's favorite matcha spot and we finally got to give it a try! We tried the double matcha, golden banana, strawberry matcha, and one that I'll butcher the name. The inside vibe was crazier than I anticipate it usually being, as it was move in weekend for UC Berkeley. But even with that, we were able to order at a kiosk shortly and have our drinks out not after long. We did all get upgrades to our matcha blend instead of getting the house. This does make it quite pricey, which is tough because I feel like I'm stuck getting that blend now, but it was really good matcha. The golden banana and the strawberry were my two favorites. I hope to come back and try more, especially the honeycomb! read more
Whenever I'm in Berkeley, a trip to 8 Grams Matcha is a must! It's hands down my favorite in the Bay. Literally across the street from the Cal bookstore, there's a camps lot across the street and plenty of parking options (both Paris and free) nearby. The space is modern and super cute! The staff is always super friendly- something that's hard to find these days. But what makes 8 Grams the best is the quality of their drinks and matcha. So, SO good! I always upgrade to the best and it never disappoints. The seasonal selections are always amazing, and the lychee guava has been my absolute favorite all summer long! On a search a matcha to places I haven't tried had brought me to Bancroft in Berkeley. I usually do not travel for matcha since I been spoiled with matcha in SF for Don Juan de la matcha. Having so many places to go in SF I decided to try a place I got recommendation to try in Berkeley which just opened this year in 2026. On a Summer stroll on Bancroft with the sun out I decided to get something refreshing to drink. For Don Juan de la Matcha is about pure matcha and Eight grams Matcha has many different flavors of it. They have 8 Grams Einspänner, Coconut Matcha Smoothie, and the Matcha Cheesecake Latte . They also have the Rose Matcha and the purple colored Lavender Matcha. I decided to try the Honeycomb Matcha. It was not too sweet but with honey it was delicious and added some sweetness. A good pure mix of matcha and honey. The matcha was an absolute angel with a sweet and earthy taste. A good place to grab matcha for Don Juan de la Matcha. Can I just I'm obsessed with the banana matcha .... Wthek?!? This is the only banana matcha drink that made my eyes big and my mouth wanting more. I wish I lived closer.. Came here during a game day at Berkeley so it was hard to get around since there's so many people walking. They made the drinks really quick for the amount of people that ordered so I was impressed. All my friends liked their drink too! I want to come back and try the guava series but the banana matcha is just too good to not order read more

I am super particular about my matcha, and Eight Grams is always a must when I am visiting Berkeley. In general the matcha lattes are on the creamier side and you can adjust the sweetness level. I also really enjoy that they offer matcha powders with different flavor profiles, so you can choose the one that suits your preferences. If you're as much of a matcha addict as I am, then the Double Matcha Latte is your best friend! I had mine with matcha mochi. The lychee guava drinks were sweet and refreshing. Don't expect to taste a lot of the matcha in the refresher, but it's still great if you want the caffeine kick! The Golden Banana Matcha is by far the best banana flavored matcha I've ever had. Definitely on the sweeter side and the banana flavor is prominent (without tasting too artificial and syrupy). Don't get this if you want a heavy matcha flavor. read more
How does one manage to make 8 grams of matcha disappear?! Hide it with guava and lychee, I guess... I was so excited to try this matcha that I made a special trip to Berkeley and was super impressed by the beautiful interior and the pretty pink marketing. The menu looks very interesting and self-order system allows different types of matcha to be selected (but lacked description to differentiate). I ordered the seasonal lychee guava refresher less sweet - it was beautifully presented and quickly made - but it was incredibly unbalanced and too sweet - if it weren't so green, I wouldn't even know there was matcha in it! Guava overwhelmed both matcha and lychee. Overall, super disappointed. Only have it 3 stars for the pretty interior and good service but drink was 1/5 for me. read more
Came by with another friend and tried their 8 gram einspanner which is their matcha latte served with house cream - very rich and creamy! Ordering was pretty easy as they had 2-3 kiosks. Very conveniently located across from campus and a couple small tables for seating. Parking is not great here but maybe about 10-15 minute walk from bart? read more
We thought this place was squarely in the OK column. I got the guava matcha latte, my wife got the banana matcha latte and my kid got the pink coco. He really liked his, but we thought all of ours were just ok. The people working there were cool and the restaurant was very zen looking, but I just wish the drinks were better. read more

The matcha flavor actually comes through with the drinks here. The recommended (75%) sweet was perfect for me. The regular matcha was my favorite. The lychee had a strong lychee and matcha flavor - if you like lychee you would enjoy. The banana matcha was a little too artificial for my liking. There was a bit of astringency due to the banana strings likely being mixed into the banana "sauce" or syrup. The drinks came out quickly. It's a very cute cafe with a couple of tables for friends to hang out and chat, but no outlets for long study sessions. read more

Tried out 8 grams and had their new drink! I ordered the guava matcha and it was refreshing and sweet. I ordered the regular sugar just because I didn't know how sweet their drinks got and I would say it was pretty well balanced. When you walk in there's multiple kiosks to order from but it's a pretty popular spot so if you're here to study I think it would be a bit hard to find a spot to set up. The drink to me tasted like the Chinese guava candy and matcha combined. Not a bad combination, but it wasn't the guava taste that I was personally expecting. Overall it wasn't bad. Definitely would come back to try other menu items. read more
Matcha run at eight grams matcha. There were so many drinks to choose from I didn't know what to try. I ended up getting a guava matcha. At first I was hesitant because I didn't want the guava to be too overpowering but the drink was a pleasant surprise. I did 50% sweet and it was a little too sweet for me. You're able to choose your sweetness, matcha type, milk type and ice levels. Next time I'll go with a classic matcha. There is limited seating indoors. Parking is street parking/pay meter parking. Order is on a kiosk iPad. Service was quick. read more
If you like sweet drinks, you'll like this place. If you actually enjoy matcha, you won't be a fan. I got the banana matcha and my husband got the strawberry matcha. Neither of us could taste any hint of matcha in either of our drinks. It basically tasted like strawberry/banana flavored milk and definitely wasn't worth paying $8+ especially when we had to pay extra for the Haku blend, which is supposed to have a "deep umami" flavor. The store itself is pretty but small and cramped. They had two kiosks for ordering and service was fairly quick despite how busy it seemed. read more
This cute exquisite matcha spot was within my Bay Area reach. While Elaichi lives up for tasty cardamom drinks and pastries, Eight Grams Matcha lives up for green tea drinks and sweets. I could hardly wait to go back if I have another rare opportunity to visit! First off, I'm relieved to see that cash was accepted. Before purchasing, I noticed there four green tea powder blends: Kiso (good for creaminess), Sabi (brightest of the bunch), Haku (slightly higher on the umami side), and Kuro (the most aromatic). Since I'm deeply crazy for umami, I chose the Haku Blend! And when I ordered the Haku Blend Lychee Matchacano, noticed the deep dark jade dew shade towards the top. Swirl the contents, sip, and oishii!! The umami of the Haku Blend that meets the half sweetness of lychee juice, it's heaven and earth made manifest. I would definitely want to head over to the Taiwanese bubble tea shop that was at the corner of Bancroft, but Eight Grams Matcha had won my attention the most. I'm sure people from all walks of life are welcome to try. It's good to know what I like to drink on a warm hot sunny day. read more

i affirm YES KONICHIWA to eight grams of legal japanese wawa. i love doing several lines of performative green zaza. yum! yes yes yes. down with misogyny and periods! yes to womens rights and laufey! located in berkeley. theres a green sign that says 8g but its indistinguishable amongst the other green signs around it. so make sure you walk into the right shop! service is fast. i wonder if they whisk to order - bar is not fully visible. place is nice with limited seating. its giving white maruwu seicha matcha americano (waka, 50% sweet) - 8/10 the best out of the 3 i ordered. waka has a very floral and nutty profile, tasted like drinking rose coconut water. the matcha is a bit astringent at the end but balanced! matcha mochi latte (75%, kiso) - 6/10, nice mochi pieces but too milky. i think kiso is a pretty light blend ?? i want STRONGER ZAZA MMMM matcha einspanner (50%, haku) - 7.5/10. very rich, a great dessert drink if you plan toilet trips accordingly. matcha is more balanced overall not bad! price is average read more
Another matcha spot has arrived in Berkeley, and this one is pretty solid! Service was super fast (my drink arrived in 5 minutes, maybe even less) and that's for a Saturday afternoon. There's not too much seating and it gets packed quickly. Parking is a struggle (normal for the area), so know that before you visit! I ordered the 8 grams einspanner with kuro and the brown sugar matcha with house blend kiso. Both were delicious but definitely lean on the dessert matcha side, so the matcha flavor was pretty mild. read more

The shop was located very centrally to Berkeley's campus and had cute decor inside! I appreciated the multiple kiosks to order and the wide variety of specialty matchas. Service was also really fast as I got two drinks less than ten minutes after ordering. Although there's not a lot of seating, it's a great spot to pick up matcha! I really enjoyed the brown sugar matcha as the matcha and brown sugar melded well together. Less sugar was also the perfect amount of sugar for me. Would definitely come back to try the other drinks! read more

don't tell the other matcha places but this one is probs my fav but only because of the rose matcha latte, it's so smooth!!! I don't really love matcha on its own but when added with other flavors, it tastes good to me. it also wasn't overwhelmingly sweet! I love it!!!! It's crazy that matcha is sold up and down the block; seems to be the newest trend that everyone is lining up for. I hope it sticks around though!!! there's just so much competition now between that, de Matcha, chi cha san chen and YiFang-- all within walking distance from each other. can't wait to try the rose matcha again!!! read more

I saw eight grams matcha on an instagram reel and decided to try them. If you do visit this place, parking can be east but sometimes it's not. But given it is downtown Berkeley it definitely wasn't easy to find parking so just keep that in mind. First impression when I walked in, it was very simple. They had like a photo area set up on the left corner where they kind of make you feel like you're in japan I guess was the goal for this. We didn't take photos cause there was a bunch of college kids who spent over 30 minutes just to get the right photo. I personally think the place is a little bit tight. As much as I would like for this to be a sit down cafe where you do homework and what, I just don't think it's feasible for that since there's so many people going in and out and everyone is moving around you since it's a tight space. You order on a kiosk, and it was pretty self explanatory. We ordered the Lavander matcha, banana matcha and matcha pudding. I wasn't a big fan of the pudding, there was something about the texture I did not like. The taste was okay as well. Their drinks is where it's really at though. My boyfriend loves banana and he fell in love with the banana matcha and ever since he decided to try banana matcha every where else we would go. I ordered the Lavender matcha and also enjoyed the drink. It was too sweet at all. I would like for it to have more lavender since matcha can be very overpowering. The lavender was definitely very subtle but I still enjoyed the drink and would get it again. I would say a must try matcha place. There are so many matcha spots near campus now, and I have made it my mission to try them all. Eight Grams Matcha, one of the newest, has a very sleek and modern ambiance - ceramic matcha dishes are displayed artfully along the wall, and orders are placed on a kiosk. After perusing the menu of matcha drinks, I ordered the honeycomb matcha because that seemed to be the trending beverage of choice (I saw it all over Instagram). Of the three varieties of matcha to choose from, I selected the house blend. There was a long queue of orders ahead of me, yet the team managed to prepare my drink in under five minutes. I took my drink to-go but would have stayed to enjoy my beverage at the cafe if I didn't have to rush to class. The honey matcha was definitely photogenic - the distinct green and white layers slowly fused together after slowly stirring in the honeycomb.The matcha itself, as many others have noted in their reviews, had a very mild flavor. My drink in particular tasted mainly like honey and milk, and the sweet, floral notes of the honey nearly overshadowed the delicate flavor of the matcha. Additionally, I may have consumed my drink too slowly because bits of the waxy honeycomb started to end up in my drink. My friend and I were in Berkeley before going to the Ariana Grande concert and we wanted a little sweet treat! I looked on Yelp and saw this place had good reviews and decided to try. It's right in front of UC Berkeley. We parked at the parking garage next to the school and walked over there. The place inside is small but enough tables and chairs. Makes it a nice cafe study spots for students. And the lighting in there was nice too. My friend and I ordered from the self ordering kiosk and we waited about 5 mins for our drinks. I got the golden banana matcha and my friend got the matcha cheesecake latte. Both were really good, for the matcha cheesecake one though the cheesecake is kinda thick so make sure to really stir the drink. Overall I recommend!! read more
each to their own but be real, truthfully i would never come back and beyond disappointed lmao i will give them credit for a clean looking interior, reasonable waittime and drink presentations but not advertising themselves as a place that specializes in matcha friend and i ordered the golden banana matcha and machi matcha. for a place thats called 8 grams, the drinks did not taste like 8 grams worth let alone like matcha. we did the recommended sweetness and whatever sweetners they added simply overpowered the drink. we struggled to find mochi bits in the machi matcha drink and the banana drink itself was too sweet and tasted like a green colored banana milk. matcha pretty much tasteless but green in visual. friend observed they prebatch their matcha in bottles if anyone cares abt that we tried, couldnt finish our drinks. but hey, heres a aesthetically pleasing image of the drinks i guess read more

Berkeley is definitely stepping up its matcha game! 8 Grams recently opened and is currently in its soft opening phase. They offer three matcha blends: the Kiso house blend, Sabi bright blend, and Haku balanced blend. The Kiso house blend comes at no extra charge, while Sabi (+$0.25) and Haku (+$0.50) are available for a small upcharge. I ordered the honeycomb matcha with the Haku blend. My friends tried the banana matcha, a regular matcha latte, and the hojicha. As someone who regularly makes matcha at home, I personally found the matcha here to be quite subtle. The Haku blend in the honeycomb matcha was super mild and I could barely taste the matcha. I asked if it was possible to add extra matcha shots but they weren't able to do so. The matcha latte with the Sabi blend and oat milk just tasted like milk with no matcha. We asked if it could be remade with regular milk but that also wasn't an option. Overall, I wouldn't likely return. This would be a good place if you're new to matcha or prefer a lighter flavor. read more
