I absolutely love this dance studio. The owners are such wonderful people and so many of the teachers here are absolutely fantastic. I love the vibes of the dance spaces (one large space for big groups and a smaller studio for 15 or less) and the lobby and outside patio are cozy social centers where you can hang out with fellow dancers/friends before and after class. Before I got injured, I was here five days a week! If you're a beginner, I highly recommend Nick and Rony for beginner hip-hop, Abi and Marque for beginner jazz funk, and Maryna for beginner heels. A dance studio located in North Hollywood, despite its seemingly limited parking (has a small lot and street parking), this space has a lot to offer for the dance community or for those who want to join. With well-known choreographers as teachers, the staff will motivate and push you to grow as a dancer (or as a great introduction to dance). I've taken classes taught by Caleb Green and Alec Faddoul. If you are curious or concerned about the level of difficulty, take one of their beginner classes as a stepping stone to what else this studio has to offer. The front desk staff are also positive, welcoming, and are able to maintain this energy within the physical space for the community. I appreciate how the studio films each class and uploads the videos within the hour (on a google drive). There is clear camera quality in each shot. Again, the studio offers a variety of classes and it's really good for foundations (especially in hip hop, grooves, and heels) and transitions into more intermediate/advanced choreography. I've taken a few heels classes here and have had amazing experiences every time! All of the teachers are professional yet still do such a great job of really breaking down the moves. It's accessible to dancers of all levels despite the beginning classes still requiring some precious dance experience. The choreo is always fun and top notch. It's a great place to feel both challenged and encouraged. The studio itself is very clean and up to date. It has a great size where you can really move around and the sound quality from the speakers is superb. The waiting area is also very comfy! I love how they film at the end and give you access to your videos so you have a way to see your progress! read more

Took my first Eighty Eight Studios class today with Hamilton (Jazz Funk) and it was an amazing class! I love his style of choreography and his natural way of instructing. As soon as I found out that Eighty Eight Studios was on Melrose, I knew I had to visit. I rushed over and realized I forgot my debit card at home and If I went back home to get it, I'd miss class. Thankfully, Hamilton graciously welcomed me as a guest into my first Eighty Eight Studios class and I'm now signing up for an unlimited pass to enjoy such an amazing GEM of a studio and instructors, before everyone finds out about it and we packed elbow to elbow like some sardines! read more

DO NOT USE THIS VENUE. I booked and PAID IN FULL for a rental space at Eighty Eight Studios for a nonprofit wellness event, including a sound bath practitioner I'd already paid in advance. The booking with Eighty Eight was made weeks in advance, confirmed in writing at the time of payment, and reconfirmed in writing again three days before the event. At no point -- on their website, in the booking confirmation, or in my receipt -- was there any statement that a confirmed booking could be canceled with little or no notice. At 11 PM the night before our event, they sent me an email (which I didn't see until the morning) saying they had given our confirmed 12 pm time slot to someone else because of, verbatim, "new additions to our schedule since your original booking". Why would you allow new additions to your schedule when that room is booked? They told me I could instead come at 3 PM. Our guests had already arranged their schedules around the noon start time, and my practitioner's schedule could not be changed. I immediately called and emailed to try to resolve the situation -- but despite multiple attempts, no one from Eighty Eight Studios responded until around 11:30 AM, just 30 minutes before our scheduled start time. By that point, we had no choice but to move the event to another location, which thankfully was available last minute. This venue change caused extreme stress the day of our event. Eighty Eight's written response to my complaint was to state that as business owners they have a right to change their venue's schedule and they have no contractual obligation to me (WRONG - our agreement is legally binding in the state of California once you accept payment) -- and to state that if I left negative reviews about this experience, they would consider legal action against me. It is my understanding that such a threat, made in response to an honest, documented review, is not only inappropriate but also violates my rights to free speech. Had another venue not stepped in at the last minute to help us, their last-minute cancellation would have caused substantial financial losses and forced us to cancel entirely. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Eighty Eight Studios - they are wildly unprofessional and their communication is unacceptably rude. Selling a time slot, confirming it in writing, then revoking it hours before the event without answering calls or offering any real remedy is not how a professional business operates. Shame on Eighty Eight studios for displacing a nonprofit at 11 pm the night before a 12 pm event, and then responding with such a callous email. read more

What an awesome venue/ dance studio in North Hollywood! They teach everything from Hip-hop to Contemporary Fusion (shout out to Iyana!). The owners, Nicholas Gilligan and his wife, are super cool and will instantly make you feel welcome. We came out to support the homie Superdave at his first Jam, and man, everything was spectacular! From the food, catered by Caribbean Breeze all the way from Sacramento, to the drinks, tended by none other than Nicholas himself, to the DJs, Roxswift and GR8, to the camera folks, KRE8R (Kevin Ray) and Jay and Coo from @bimotiion, to the vendors, Brian Bello and The Magic Thrift Bus, to the Masseuse Kate, to all of the AMAZING dancers and choreographers, everything was incredible!!! And the best part is, everyone was friendly, positive, and could not have been more humble. My crew could not have had a better time. HUUUUUGE Congratulations to Superdave and Co. for a well executed event! HUUUUUUGE thanks to Nicholas and his wife for opening their doors for an incredible evening. Eighty Eight Studios has a diverse selection of teachers and genres for students to develop as a professional dancer, amateur or lay person. The professionals who teach are very skilled and attentive. They make sure that the students have the best form and we drill the moves/choreography multiple times to improve our performances. It's also a fun, welcoming, judgement free zone! The owners and staff are great too and the facility has amazing spaces and energy. You can even download your dance class videos from the Google Drive to see your progression. That's awesome too! I love this studio in the heart of the NoHo Arts District. read more

I took my first class here on Friday! The space is cozy and well-decorated, and there is a lot of available parking space. I took the beginner heels class with Skylar, and she was a great instructor. I felt welcome in the space, and liked how the class provides videography (after splitting into small groups) of the choreography at the end of each class. HOWEVER, a few things to note: 1) The beginner heels class felt more like a beginner/intermediate class (there are some spins, fast-paced choreo) so it may be a bit more difficult for complete beginners to follow, but the instructor does encourage even absolute beginners to try. You might just feel a bit lost in the beginning. 2) The class was a bit crowded, but Skylar did a good job of splitting groups up so dancers wouldn't run into each other. I literally started going to this studio this year and may I tell you it's the best thing I've ever done for myself! This year is also the first time I've ever taken dance lessons in my life! I come every Sunday to take Rony's class and he's an amazing choreographer and also a great teacher! He has helped me really become more passionate for dancing and made me want to take his classes more! I highly recommend if you go to this studio take a hip hop class from Rony!
