Stopped here on the way to Kansas. Place was clean and the staff was very courteous! Ask for the hot sauce, it was the Bomb! We love Mexican food and this place didn't disappoint! This was just plain awful. The salsa had a lot of sugar in it and tasted like a can of crushed tomatos. The service was fast, although less than friendly. We were there yesterday. The chips were cold and old tasting. The salsa was not good. We waited and waited for our food. My husband looked around and most of the crowd had not been served. The people next to us had been waiting an hour! Finally, people started leaving, including us, without ever being served. I don't know what was going on, but we won't be back!!!!! Great food and great service. Needed a place to meet family between Tulsa and Dallas. Staff was accommodating, friendly, and patient with our party of 13. Everyone enjoyed their meal. We ordered take out. The food that arrived looked like garbage off of someone's plate. Totally inedible. Plus the prices charged were much larger than the online posted menu. How can that be legal. I gave this place 5 stars 4 months ago on a google review but not now!. I have been eating at El Adobe for 10 months after buying land north of Atoka. Until Saturday the food has been good and service has been good to fair which I can accept. But Saturday I had the misfortune of meeting Dakota. When I and my family walked into the El Adobe I was greeted by a female who asked how many in our party and I advised 4 and that I wanted a table not a booth. She advised she would look for a table and left us standing at the register. In the mean time my wife and sister went to the restroom while we were waiting to be seated. The woman never came back but a Man with Black Hair who later advised his last name was Dakota Miller walked up to I and my Brother in Law wanting to help us. I told him we wanted a table. He grabbed some menu's and began walking to the end of the dining room where he began laying menu's on the table of a booth. I told him that I did not want a booth and that we wanted a table. His facial expression and attitude changed immediately. He then led us to a small room next to the register that contained yet another booth boxed into a wall. I consider a booth as a table that has bench seats that are not adjustable in distance from the table and a regular table (what I was requesting) to be a table with individual chairs that can be moved in position. Apparently Mr. Miller does not understand what a regular table and chairs is. He then pointed at that booth and told us we could sit there. I then told him again I did not want a booth and wanted to sit at a table. He then told me in a snippy and rude tone that we could use that booth or leave. I then pointed to a table that was in a rear dining area by the bar where other customers were eating and told him there was a table there pointing at the table. Miller then told me the waitress for that area was no longer working and I needed to leave. When I didn't just immediately walk to the door he again loudly with great anger told me to leave now! I then told him very clearly that I would leave when my wife came out of the restroom and not until then. Once my wife and sister came out we left and once outside I only returned to get his name for this review to which he told me his name is Dakota Miller. Now, First, if he didn't have any available tables that we could sit at he could have calmly advised us there were no tables currently in service and that we could wait until one became available. He could have told me this professionally, calmly and not attempt to order me to follow his demands. Secondly he could have just as easily placed us at the table I pointed out as it was only about 10 or 15 feet from the main dining area. I am sure it would not have killed the waitress to carry our food an extra 10 feet to satisfy a good tipping customer. However, if the second option was just to much an inconvenience refer back to the first option to kindly tell me we could wait for a table. The bottom line here is that if I was starving and Dakota Miller was giving food away I wouldn't touch it and I will never set foot in the El Adobe again. I will also make sure that any of my friends both in Oklahoma and Texas knows what happened to me there. To the owners as I understand, you had a happy good tipping customer for life until I crossed paths with your son/brother. Something else that I noticed while looking at some other reviews before starting this one. It sure seems that most of your bad reviews come from out of state customers who are passing thru your town. Just an observation? If I could give Dakota 0 stars I would. read more

Stopped by here on the way to Arkansas from dallas with my wife and two boys. While the service was friendly, the positive stops there. For starters, the salsa was blander than any that I've had in many years...it was more like spicey tomatoes sauce. The waitress was quick to bring chips and take our order. However, that was the last we saw of her until the food arrived 25 minutes later. When the food finally came it was mostly bland and flavorless. Finally, after waiting 15 minutes for the check I had to chase down the waitress and ask for it. The last comment I'll make is the uncomfortably small men's restroom and the unusually high urinal that prevented either of my boys from using it...it was almost too tall for an adult. All in all I wish I'd done fast food instead of eating here. read more

I stopped in to place a carryout order for myself and my father and it was so much going on inside the place that I wasn't even noticed, I stood at the front register like I was apiece of the décor. I heard a few of the waitresses talking using every curse word the book, very unprofessional for a place that deals with the public. Really great service and consistently delectable Tex-mex food the El Adobe is a local gem. Family owned for generations the restaurant is located in a renovated Catholic Church which lends a great atmosphere. There's a full service bar in an adjacent room and beyond that a picturesque patio offering full service dining al fresco. There is live music on the patios so be sure to check out the schedule. Okay, I'm probably being about one star kind, but my traveling business partner was pleased with his lunch choice. When it's noon, you're passing through Atoka (where the dining selections are limited to say the least), you're facing a major tropical storm with buckets of rain, this appeared to be the best place to pull into for lunch. It appears to be a local stop as well since there were plenty in the restaurant. I ordered the taco salad which was fair at best. The ground meat that was dumped on top of wilted lettuce was bland and just that, ground meat. Come on, at least throw an Old El Paso seasoning packet into the ground meat while cooking. The salad didn't come with any peppers (had to request) and no salsa. You did get your choice of either sour cream or guac. I'm not sure I have seen a taco salad served without salsa. Guess they assumed I would use the table salsa (which was the tasty portion of lunch). Ice tea was made with water from the bottom of the lake! I now know what a catfish experiences. Come on, use filtered tap water at least! Well at least the chips and salsa were good. Not sure I'd stop here again on my many trips to/from Texas. read more

Passing through town, Mexican food sounded good. We ordered a fajita style meal with chicken, steak and chorizo covered in cheese sounded amazing??? The meal showed up and had kielbasa sausage in it , not chorizo. When the waitress came over I read her from the menu what was supposed to be in our meal and thought maybe we got the wrong meal??? Her reply was no kielbasa is right, "they" made a mistake on the menu and we told "them"??? . I mentioned that maybe from now on when someone orders that you should probably let them know that the meal does not have chorizo but kielbasa. As for the restaurant itself, it was pretty clean . I would say this restaurant is just canned food Mexican. Sorry! read more

The chips were cold & greasy. The salsa tasted like a can of tomatoes. The beans were watery. There were raw onions in my food that seemed out of place. The service was ok, but when we initially complained about our dissatisfaction we got only small condolences. I love Mexican food and I could not eat it because it was that bad. read more
