This is the kind of Mexican food that makes me sad. Its unathentic and uninspired. The red enchilada sauce is horrendous. The refried beans and rice served on every plate taste nearly identical and I don't quite understand how that's even possible. The beer is cold. Service is fast. Would give 0 stars if i could. Manager/Owner was extremely rude and didn't even acknowledge me when i came to pick up to-go order. Just pointed at the food on the counter and didn't say another word to me as if i was bothering him or something. My order was also incorrect and when i drove all the way back to inform them my order was missing something, the manager vehemently denied that the order was wrong and said i never paid for what was missing (as if i wouldn't know what i ordered while also currently holding the receipt saying what i was charged for) without him even double checking the order or my receipt first. It's almost as if he didn't even want my business and it definitely felt racially motivated. After relooking at my order and seeing it was indeed incorrect, he finally got it remade and couldn't even look me in the eye while giving the blandest "sorry". Will not be coming back and if you are a person of color i highly suggest going elsewhere for Hispanic cuisine preferably somewhere that respects and welcomes our business. read more

The carnitas plate at El Agavero was some of my favorite I've ever had! The jalapeños and guacamole are fresh, the rice and beans nicely seasoned, and the meat is so tender. My only complaint is the service is not great. Whether they're slow or busy, it doesn't seem the servers are interested in providing more than the bare minimum. I have to flag them down for the check or a drink refill. But the food is so delicious I still come back regularly. read more

Not sure how this place is 4 stars. My wife and I have lived in Bellevue for 4 years and have been referred here by multiple friends. Finally tried it last month. First and last visit. Service was terrible, transactional at best, literally serve could care less we were eating there. Chicken was not seasoned, tasted like it was freshly pulled off a rotisserie chicken from Costco. Overall the server came too our a table a total of 3 times, their were all about how fast they could serve us, all while selling poor food. I have frequented 'El Agavero on probably 20 occasions over the past 3 years. Although the food and presentation have always been consistent, I have recently noticed a decline in the service level. Perhaps the staff recognize my wife and I as regular customers and feel that we don't need (or want) consistently attentive service. On a recent visit, none of the regular wait staff was present, the gentleman who waited on our table spoke very little English and was confused throughout as to our needs. The owner needs to address this concern as I would suspect that we are not alone in our disappointment of the current situation. read more

El Agavero is a fantastic Mexican restaurant located at the far end of a nondescript strip mall in Bellevue, Tennessee (just outside of Nashville, Tennessee). This would be an easy place to miss, but if you were to miss it, you would miss out on a wonderful dining experience. This is great Mexican food served by a friendly staff in a humble environment. There is nothing fancy or pretentious about this place, but, at least for me, Mexican food is not supposed to be fancy or high end. Great Mexican food for me is a humble food, with its origins in the hardscrabble existence of an amazing people, food built from hardship, but created into a culinary wonder by both love and pride. I was seated and brought the normal chips and salsa, but this was anything but ordinary. The salsa was thick and hard to stop after just a chip or ten. I ordered the chile Colorado, and it was fantastic. It was served with rice and refried beans and I found myself using my tortillas to sop up that wonderful sauce. Price was great, as well. My chile Colorado was less than eleven dollars. That was lot of insanely great food for a small price. read more

This was perfectly good standard everytown Mexican food and hit the spot for my recent meal. Decent location with plenty of parking, very friendly service, and fair prices. The Dos Equis on tap was served ice cold as a bonus. I start my evaluation of a Mexican place based on the chips and salsa. You get them at pretty much every Mexican restaurant and when they excel above the average you can pretty much know the meal will follow suit. The chips here were not bad (hot and fresh with about the right amount of salt) and while the salsa wasn't bad it was pretty bland with no real flavor. I ordered a cheese dip and since you have the option to make it spicy I did that which meant it showed up with chopped up jalapenos in it. The cheese dip was good but super thick and it congealed pretty quickly yet it didn't get gross, still tasty. I was in the mood for tacos but I wanted al pastor tacos or maybe some with a chorizo mix in them but this place only had chicken, beef and steak options. I ended up with a "Texano" burrito which was one of the biggest burritos I've ever eaten. It was stuffed with pretty much everything on the menu (shrimp, chicken, steak tips, peppers, onions, tomatoes) and covered with red sauce, sour cream, and guacamole. It was good and hit the spot. Ultimately I enjoyed my meal and it was what I was in the mood for when I stopped in. Bellevue appears to be behind the rest of Nashville in terms of unique food choices as it's the land of strip malls and chain stores so what you get here seems to be what you can get at most solid Mexican diners. To edge them to 4-5 stars I'd have liked a few other menu choices, a bit more cilantro in my salsa, my steak tips (in the burrito) a bit less well done or some good al-pastor tacos. We visited El Agavero last night for dinner with a friend in Bellevue. Our entrees consisted of shrimp fajitas, chile colorado and I ordered a burrito California with a side salad. The server asked if I'd like lettuce with my salad and that should've been an indicator that I was headed for a slightly unusual experience. The salad was soon delivered on a large platter with a bed of iceberg lettuce with chopped tomatoes and what was clearly the prepped green peppers and onions for fajita orders. There was no dressing, but a side of ranch was delivered upon request. I suppose they don't get a lot of house salad orders and that's okay. The burrito steak was slightly dry, but otherwise good and the rest of our table seemed to enjoy their food. The staff were nice and available as needed, but there could've been a little more attention paid to our table, especially as there wasn't a large crowd. My wife and our friend enjoyed margaritas and the Dos Equis draft was as good as expected. The salsa tasted like an off-the-shelf brand. I'm not sure which one, but I feel confident that's what it was. I would normally give this a 3 star review, but will add a 4th for great value and what appeared to be good folks doing hard work. The prices were very reasonable and portion sizes were ample. A little extra table service and a higher grade of salsa are my recommendations, but I would be happy to try El Agavero again in Bellevue. Thank you! read more

This was a bad idea. I ordered online and waited the 20 minutes to go pick up the food. It wasn't ready. It wasn't ready for another 15 minutes. When the cashier finally brought it to me he dropped it into my hands and walked away. I commented that if this was the service I wouldn't be back. He shrugged his shoulders and walked off. I brought the food home, and when I opened it, it was cold, the cheese wasn't even melted, and it certainly was not worth the price that I paid for it. I do not recommend this place nor will I be going back there. It's one thing to have poor service and at least acknowledge that that's what you do. It's another to have poor service and be rude. And you can't even balance it out with good food because it wasn't. I would stay away from here. read more
