Fajitas de Pollo

Sadly I'll have to agree with most of the negative reviews here about service and prices! Visited on a Saturday night and stayed for drinks and dancing. We had a big group of 20-30 people and they set tables together that sat 20-22, then we had more tables nearby as more came. There was only 3 baskets of chips and salsa for the table of 20+ and by the time I got there, none was left and I was told they asked for water and more chips several times for the past 30 mins (there was maybe one or two other couples at the restaurant besides our party, so not busy). We never got more chips although we asked at least 3 times since I arrived. Drinks had no prices shown and they don't serve tap water, only bottled (still or sparkling). The large margaritas are gigantic (glass was as tall as the 16oz bottle of water) and we ordered pitchers of margaritas, but again no prices given, so we got a surprise when the bill came. As for the food, portions were big and everything smelled great. Flavors were average to good for Tex-Mex food, nothing special. Everything was plated nicely. I got the Lomo Saltado and asked for medium rare, but it was beyond well done, so very dry. The plates are huge and very heavy and the waitress dropped one behind my friend and her shirt and purse got all splattered on! Leather purses get stained with oils! They didn't offer her anything until she and a few of us kept asking (not even a discount on her food or a drink!). At the very end after we all paid and started dancing, they kept her waiting at the table to see what the manager will do while we were dancing. Ruined her night and she got a $25 GC in return - they could've voided her payment instead because she definitely does not want to return!

Experience could have been better

As a first time customer I arrived to find the restaurant darker than I expected. There was a constant...very loud alarm that continued the entire time I was there. I orders a jalapeño margarita. It was 0/5 on spice and flavor. I requested my bill and was told "the system is down". They weren't able to process my card. I was asked to pay in cash. Of course I never have cash. I had to submit payment via zelle. Such an inconvenience. I would not recommend this place

Ceviche Mixto Peruano

The best Ceviche that I ever tried, Valerie our server was amazing and we met Omar who always was paying attention to our table. The food is incredible, fresh and authentic we live in Virginia and we want to come back

20% tip included on a party of 2 but service was terrible. I would have left a 15% because I can be a nice person but a 10% would have been generous based on the level of service.

Menu prices

This was one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. Today I placed a phone order for two pupusas which cost $3. 25 each, a total of $6:50, and a Pina colada drink. Since my relative was in the vicinity I ask if they can pick up my order. When they went inside to pick up the order he was charged $20.00, which he paid for and was not provided a receipt. When he stop by to drop off the food he told me how much they charged me which made me upset. How are they going to charge me 13 dollars for a Pina colada. You just lost a loyal customer and a few neighbors for being greedy.

Huge margarita!

The chips are perfection--very thin, crunchy, fresh, with a slight amount of salt. The salsa was tomato forward, and while I usually crave heat, I really liked the balanced flavor--so much I had two bowls! I orders the cheese enchiladas and it was massive and oh so cheesy. There were cheese pulls for days. The rice was good, I tasted the beans and they were also okay. This really hit my craving spot on, and I had a few beers on the patio because the weather and vibe were just right. My server was Eric and he was very consistent and very great. He made sure I never had an empty plate or glass, which was very appreciated. Overall really great time!

Mi Rancho's prices are reasonable, the portion sizes good, and the staff friendly and helpful. I appreciated the delicious complementary chips and salsa, and we were able to get refills. Mi Rancho is also very family-friendly-they have high chairs, an extensive kid's menu, and we saw several kids there. I got the mixed chicken and beef fajitas for my dinner. While the meat was a little tough and needed a bit more flavor, the accompaniments were good and combined with the salsa, produced great flavor. I would recommend Mi Rancho if you're looking for a family-friendly, laid-back dinner in Silver Spring.

We ordered the seafood enchiladas and the fish tacos. The shrimp and scallops were probably defrosted unfortunately when cooked tasted like potatoes. The salmon tacos ok, though was hoping it was tilapia instead. Service always great even though they push hard to buy another drink more than once. Ambiance at this restaurant spot on for a Mexican restaurant and one of the cleanest and beautifully decorated restrooms. Will I come back probably but I won't order the seafood enchiladas and I'll stay away from the frozen drinks.

While folks at my table went with Tex-Mex options, I decided to go with a Salvadorian option. In particular, I went with the Sopa de Marisocos, which was served with fish, a whole crab, mussels, shrimps, clams, and eggs. I thought the 20 dollar price tag as pretty fair considering how much seafood was in the bowl of soup. Although I thought the soup should have come with rice, I did not realize that the soup was served with tortillas. I guess the tortillas were the rice substitute. Overall, I thought the soup was very delicious and seasoned very well. I'm glad that I followed the waitress' advice and went with the addition of cream to the soup because it elevated the soup's flavor. Besides the soup, I had my fair share of margaritas. I thought the margaritas were mixed well because they were not too sweet or acidic for me. Also, the restaurant has happy hour most days until 6 pm (or was it 7 pm?). I have to say that I must visit again, because there are a lot of things on the menu that I would like to try during my next visitS. Overall, I thought the service was impeccable. Our bartender, who later became our waitress, was very helpful in making recommendations and suggestions regarding the menu. Also, she was very patient because it took us a while to finally order food - although we did order plenty of margaritas while deciding on what to eat. The restaurant is a decent size with both indoor and outdoor seating. From the way the tables are arranged, El Gavilan looks like it is very accommodating for medium sized groups. The restaurant does have parking; however, the parking lot is a bit tight.
