El Apetiz is one of those true Baldwin Park hidden gems. I've been coming here since 1999, and more than 25 years later, the food is still amazing. It's a small, intimate, no-frills spot with tons of character, and I was so happy to see dine-in finally return after the pandemic. Everything is freshly prepared, with some really unique options. The seafood calzone is one of my longtime favorites -- huge, golden, cheesy and packed with seafood. The seafood spinach salad is excellent, and their pastas are always delicious, especially the pesto and tequila sauces. With similar dishes getting a lot of attention elsewhere in the area lately, it's worth knowing that El Apetiz has been serving this style of food in Baldwin Park for decades. This is the original spot I've known and loved since the '90s! And a special shoutout to Jose Portillo and his wife Bella, who are absolutely wonderful and continue to provide the same warm, consistent and excellent service after all these years. Great food, generous portions, wonderful people and a true local gem.

I had not been here in years and am so glad I gave it another try! The cajun chicken pasta was so flavorful and creamy. The artichoke mushroom pasta packed a punch of flavor. Their garlic bread is so good. Best I have had in an italian restaurant. I was shocked to see the inside was not packed. The server was very nice. Cant wait to try more again. Childhood restaurant revisited.

Hey mambo, don't wanna tarantella Hey mambo, no more a mozzarella Hey mambo! Mambo italiano!... 5/5 Service Dine in or take out this spot in Baldwin Park has been our go to pasta place. Since Covid they have been primarily take out. They have a small interior to dine in which I can see why most order take out. We have done both. 5/5 Food What can I say I've enjoyed a lot off their menu. From the jambalaya pasta, lasagna, calzone, even a kids spaghetti. 4/5 Parking Parking can get tight as there is a laundry mat next door and mariscos restaurant in the same shopping center. 5/5 Family Friendly The staff is very friendly and was patient with us even with our kiddos bouncing around. They provided disposable plates for them (very helpful for us parents). I really enjoy meals we order from here. Thank you to the staff who always makes us feel welcome. Psalm 130:7, God bless

I've passed by here numerous times but never stopped by. Food was good. I still can't get over that pasta salad, a tad different than most I've had. Veggie pizza was quite interesting because I don't think I've ever had carrots on a pizza. The chicken parmigiana sandwich bread though was kinda spongy, it did have a good taste, I just wish the bread was better. Bella our waitress was really sweet. I'd definitely come back

Yesterday after work the open sign caught my attention, aside from that the exterior could be a little more welcoming and well lit. But more importantly let's get to the good stuff, I ordered 2 pastas which were quite delicious. Flavor and portion size was good! Staff was very friendly and inviting! Made good recommendations for my first time being there. Owner was nice and inviting. Strongly recommend and I will definitely be going again to try the other dishes. Thank you guys for the delicious food!

El Appetiz is quintessential whole-in-the-wall, hidden gem, type status. Huge shout out to owner Jose for his gracious hospitality to me and my fiancee as we pulled up craving some pasta. From the hand made linguine made in house, fresh made from scratch sauces, and succulent choices of meat and seafood, you cannot skip out on the tequila seafood linguine. With a light and creamy yet velvety cream sauce kissed with a touch of tequila and citrus along with loads of tender and juicy shrimps and scallops this place is unbeatable and AFFORDABLE! They only serve take-out or catering orders but they do have a small dining area inside the restaurant for small parties. Jose and the El Appetiz crew has been at this for 30+ years and just after the first bite, you can understand why!

Amazing service very family oriented and the food is absolutely fantastic love the ambiance

We ordered the Chicken Alfredo, Chipotle Chicken Pasta, pizza, and salad, and every single dish was absolutely delicious. The portions were generous without being overwhelming, and the Chicken Alfredo was the standout. The sauce was incredibly rich, creamy, and full of flavor--honestly, I enjoyed it even more than Olive Garden's Alfredo! The atmosphere was another pleasant surprise. While the outside of the restaurant may not immediately catch your attention, don't let that fool you. The inside is beautifully decorated, cozy, and full of charm. It's a smaller restaurant, which made it feel welcoming and comfortable. Our server was incredibly friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. We also loved watching the soccer game on the big screen while enjoying our meal. My only suggestion would be to give a little more attention to the restrooms. They could be cleaned more frequently, and making sure hand soap is always stocked would really enhance the overall experience. Overall, the amazing food, welcoming service, cozy atmosphere, and great portions make this restaurant an easy recommendation. We'll definitely be making the trip back to La Puente again!

I like the dividers that give you a bit of privacy and cut down on conversational noise from other tables. The first thing we notice and LOVED was the old school mellow Italian standards they were playing. Yes! Very relaxing and set the mood. We would have sat in the bar, but there was a large group scheduled in there, so we sat in the dining room. Next time we'll try the bar room. The things that stood out were their delicious, rich sauces. The flavors were spot on. They cook their pasta perfect to my family's taste, with a bite (al dente), but done enough that it's not chewy or floury. Fair prices. And yummy desserts. We really enjoyed the tasty Crab Cake app. We all liked our pasta, particularly me, who had the Mushroom Ravioli with the same sauce that comes on the Beef and Mushroom Ravioli. I think there was a Mushroom Ravioli special with a different sauce, but they did it with the sauce I really wanted to try, which was much appreciated! We enjoyed the Spumoni pie--Spumoni ice cream with a graham cracker(?) pie crust. They also made us a traditional Affogato, because that's what my dad likes. But I want to try their version next time. I'm really excited to go back and try their pizza. We'll get one with sausage, since the sausage on my dad's pasta was really outstanding. I also want to try their Caesar Salad. Looking forward to my next visit!

To be fair, I didn't know if the place was open or not as the windows and doors are not visible to the inside so I wasn't sure when they are really open. It is a family owned restaurant therefore I expect many changes when they need to make changes such as closing early on certain days. I was a little late to the table so I didn't get a chance to really study the menu but I really wanted to try the sautéed chicken with penne because it sounded like it would be super indulgent with butter as the sauce. I ordered a full order as they also had light orders which is half the portion at a reduced price. But I was hungry, and it also came with garlic bread or bread and butter. It did take a while for food to arrive, I think we aren't used to a long wait since usually bread would arrive first. My aunt and uncle got soup (minestrone) served first so maybe if we ordered salads we would've gotten them before the entrees too. The Alex special pizza came first as our entree and boy the crust was crispy! Lots of toppings and the cheese pull was amazing. Parts were a bit hard to chew but only after it's been sitting for a while because when it was fresh it was crispy, then soft and chewy. My sautéed chicken dish came after and it was hot! All the plates are hot so be careful! So hot my uncle burned his mouth on the stretchy cheese from the lasagna and spaghetti with meatballs. The chicken and mushrooms were so delicious, I ate all the mushrooms first and even used the pizza crust to soak the extra butter from the penne. The garlic bread and bread came really last, at least it was fresh so it was a good wait. Yes there's a lot of butter oil, but I expected it when the dish on the menu said to choose a sauce which was butter or olive oil. We didn't get dessert because we were so full! We had plenty of leftovers for another meal. They gave us boxes and a pizza box to take our food home. I really want to try again with my parents and others, the dessert menu sounds like a great selection of Italian sweets but what I really want again is the bread and butter. It was so good, the butter was salty which really makes it a star.

Well, that time FINALLY came! My sister and I were hanging out reminiscing over our late mother together, on her birthday and decided to get Italian food (her favorite). We both agreed Four Bricks would be THE SPOT! Needless to say, we were so right! We were greeted and sat with no reservation at around 4:30pm, thankfully there was no wait at that time. However, the restaurant quickly filled up. Our server was very attentive but not over bearing. For our appetizer, we chose bruschetta. 12/10 The perfectly dressed tomatoes and basil sat on a pillowy burrata cloud and melted in your mouth. YUMMMM!! I opted for the penne ala vodka, while she chose the bolognese. 10/10 The penne w/vodka sauce had a surprising hint of spice that was decadent and savory. The bolognese had a slightly creamier taste without the spice and was equally as flavorful. Finally, we ordered the lemon butter cake. 10/10 When I tell you this cake was delicious ... woahhh!! It was a nice crisp butter cake but the lemon zest paired with the coulis and fruit gave the perfect balance. We were told the restaurant would be closing and that it was the final day of service. Made us both bummed to hear since the hospitality and true Italian food with homemade pasta was such a delight. Impeccable place overall!
