Loved this place all the plates looked amazing and they give you pretty big portions. Tried both the chicken Caesar salad and the steak vinagarette salad both were amazing. For less than $10 each it's a really great deal. The only thing I would say is order ahead at least 30 minutes if picking up (took a while). And didn't really have coffee ready to honor yelp checkin. omfg, i really liked this place... An Italian joint in the middle of Tijuana, ahem, i mean Baldwin Park, owned and operated by Jose (Peruvian).... what the heck can go wrong? Background: Jose is a unique individual with fun stories. Jose is Peruvian, but spent 4 or 6 years in culinary school and apprenticeship in Italy to provide us with an almost Peruvian/South American/Latin with Italian Fusion/Hybrid~!!!! What can go wrong? at least with the food, ya know.... Jumbalaya... At first, i was like... hmmmn... but dude... chicken and shrimp pasta with some pesto/saracha style sauce... Okay, that is not what the description says, but that is what it looks like. Folks, this is not Creole Jamabalaya although that sounds damn good right now! Appetiz Jimbi was not spicy. Maybe it is for some, but for me, it was more pesto creamy with some spice hence the saracha reference... I really liked this. House Bread or whatever the hell it was... damn that was good. First of all, who gives buttered rolls out at Italian places??? I am sure some do, but i have only eaten at places with breadsticks, sourdough or garlic bread, not hot, fresh, warm, soft, buttery rolls =D =D =D =D #score Salad... Tax TIp: Employers have until January 31 to give you your W2s, 1099s and all that tax crap.... If employers fail (with irrefutable proof), then employers can get penalized between $20 - $50 per employee with max penalties ranging from $25,000 (small business) to $100,000 (big corporations). If employer does not purposely provide a W2, the penalty increases to $100 flat per with no ceiling. You can demand your documents and report this infraction to the IRS. Small, kinda ghetto restaurant. Sorry to say... The dining area looked like garage flooring and seats were plastic lawn chairs. OMG really? I normally liked hole in the walls, but I looked to my BF thinking maybe we should leave, but thought - hmm maybe food won't be bad. Chicken Tequila Cream with fettucine ($9.95 for full order) - It was good. Definitely big bang for your buck since portion was huge.The sauce was creamy with a hint of lime flavoring that made it tasty. However, chicken was dry. My dish came with bread that had oil on top, but it was pretty bland and dry, possibly old bread? Mushroom & artichoke pizza ($9.50) - this was actually pretty good. It was a thin crust pizza. The sauce was a garlic sauce instead of tomato. Good portion size for sharing though. Service: There was only one other party there than ourselves, and our server was literally playing on his phone in the dining area. Come on really?? Thankfully another server was there who helped us that seemed really nice & actually enjoyed his job. Overall, service/food quality were one in the same- one was good, and the other was not. Let me begin my review by saying that we used El Appetiz for a corporate training catering, and as such this may not be applicable to dine-in. El Appetiz was really hit and miss for me. The food was really excellent, and the price was really right. We fed 40 with TONS of leftovers for just under $400. Unfortunately, there were some serious details that went overlooked by the staff, despite my efforts to make sure things went smoothly. I scheduled for catering to arrive at 11:30, and it did not until 11:55, five minutes before lunchtime was to begin for our group of 40. Another issue, the serving utensils provided for pasta were large plastic serving spoons. Pasta slips and slides right off these things! They must know that. Tongs would have made more sense, and now I know if I order from them again to make sure I bring tongs of our own to use. The worst part, however, was in regards to the vegan options we ordered. We have a significant portion of our training audience who are vegan, and as such I made sure we had a couple options for them. I called a couple times ahead of the 12th (when the catering was to be delivered) to ensure we had the order right. The salads we received had chicken and cheese in them, despite me working with the restaurant to identify what vegan options they recommended (Best of the Best Salad and Mango and Peach Salad). They were gracious enough to go back to the restaurant (5 minutes away) and bring two new small-size vegan versions of the salads. These were delivered at 12:30, when most people had finished eating and were engaging in networking. This was an unfortunate oversight by the staff, and it felt even worse when coupled with the lateness of the order. If the order had been on time, I would have caught it then, and they would have been able to make it right before the lunch hour even started- and this would have been a 5-star review. read more

So a lot of people tote the pastas as being very good, they have flavor (though a bit under salted) but they unfortunately are a bit insulting. I ordered the seafood puttanesca, shrimp and scallop, and seafood sauteed pastas for pickup. Look, each half serving is about 10 dollars and none of the dishes had what they were supposed to have. The puttanesca is described on the menu as having salmon, shrimp, and scallop..... when we got it there were only 3 shrimp. The seafood sauteed only had ONE shrimp and no scallops, with salmon. If I'm ordering something, I am expecting to get what I asked for. This was honestly a big insult, not only is a half size 10 dollars, but they didn't even have what they were supposed to have. Each pasta had missing ingredients. I'd give it 1 star, but the pizzas were good, not good enough that I'd come back though. read more

I use to live in the area and had jambalaya often, I'd say at least once a week. Fast forward to yesterday's visit and the sauce lacked flavor. I'm not sure if the staff or recipe has changed. I have been coming to this family-owned restaurant for 20 years (since I was a 7th grader) and I'm still impressed by the food and service. This place is much better than chain restaurants like Olive Garden. They make a lot of their food from scratch. Their pastas and calzones are delicious and great portions. I'm not into salads, but their Seafood Spinach salad is irresistible. Their food is relatively inexpensive and you definitely get quality. They also have pretty affordable party trays. Their prices have not raised much due to inflation over the last 20 years and their portions remain the same. During this pandemic, I'm happy to see that they're still in business for take out or delivery and they adhere to all public health and safely protocols. You can rest assured that this restaurant is clean, full of great food options, and full of quality service. read more

We had guest who were vegan and he accommodated perfectly. He was on top of every request and question. We would go back, for the food and for Max. In from out of the area and searched Yelp. The reviews were good so we gave it a try. The food was absolutely delicious!! The staff was very friendly and helpful. The service was great! It's a very casual place, nothing fancy. We had the shrimp and scallop with rigatoni and the chicken parm. Amazing! We complimented the waiter and learned they have been there over 25 years, and it's no wonder! The chef then came out and he was very personable and friendly. A gracious man! He said we have to try the poblano salad and brought us small bowl. They have many salads on the menu also. The poblano dale was fantastic too! My wife and went for lunch on a 107 deg day! I had the smaller Greek salad w/chicken. My wife had the spinach salad w/salmon. It took about 30 minutes to come. My salad was good my wife's order showed up with chicken instead of salmon. The waiter said they ran out of salmon. but he did not tell us so we were not able to change to what she may have wanted. It is an older, non-descript hole in the wall but clean and the air con was bearable. Service was courteous tho slow bc only one waiter. I probably would get the larger salad next time and either take it home or split it. A nice roll came with the salad but we were trying to stay away from glutens. AMAZING FOOD AND PRICES!! My step-dad catered from this place a few times for parties he had and we went to this place to get catering for a party we were having! They let us have a free tasting and the options were great! We ended up choosing the Tequila pasta, Rigatoni primavera, and the Chicken Jambalaya with the Poblano salad and dinner rolls! Yelp 100 Challenge 2017 - # 93/100 Wanted to give this place a higher rating but it's a 3 star at best. The boy wanted pasta and I was starving that I didn't want to make the drive to Rosemead for my favorite Italian restaurant. Yelped, and we found this local spot. First off, they don't honor the offer of "free coffee at Yelp check-in" anymore, but the guy said he was going to give it to me anyway. When the coffee came, the teaspoon was sticky. No, I have not used it yet at that time, and I didn't want to. So I stirred my coffee with my fork. I ordered the shrimp and scallop over rigatoni, a full plate was $12.95. This was bland, and the pasta was over-cooked. With a few shakes of black pepper and a generous helping of powdered Parmesan cheese the taste somewhat improved. My sister ordered shrimp scampi Mediterranean at $12.95. Also bland, the angel hair pasta was also over-cooked. Black pepper and parm to the rescue, again! Maybe salt the pasta water and boil for 2-3 minutes less? Mom ordered the blackened fresh Cajun salmon with caper sauce on the side. The salmon was cooked perfectly, crusted with Cajun spices but still moist. The caper sauce was nothing to be excited about. You can add $1 for soup or salad, so Mom got the chicken tortilla soup. This was I think the best thing out of all the items in our order. Although it tasted like the base of a chicken noodle soup, the right amount of spices and the crunchiness of the tortilla strips made this a winner to me. The boy who said he wanted pasta, ordered the meat lovers' calzone with a side salad instead. I got to taste a bite of the salad which I thought came with Caesar dressing but my taste buds were assaulted with a homemade dressing that tasted more like way too much mayonnaise than anything else. The calzone was good, so there was no leftover. Service was really great that's why I gave them a star for that. Mind you, this is not an upscale restaurant. More like a relaxed, family dining environment, so don't expect cloth napkins or table covers. Sadly, for now I'll have to pass on making another trip here. Hopefully if we do get to come for second round, the above issues would've improved by then. read more

My husband & I ate here after long work week - I was intrigued by the sign proclaiming it "the best in town" so I asked my husband to check it out with me. Yes the portions are huge - and???? The place stinks - literally. It REEKS of Parmesan cheese - like so bad you can't breathe in deeply or risk choking on the stench. The wine list is small and the wine's they have aren't good. The food is mediocre at best - yeah they are large portions but again small on taste or creativity. The seating is tight (claustrophobic - not cozy) and the decor is very dated (think '80's bad mob movie). The service is lazy and inattentive. I just don't get it. Max the regular guy who serves there is so friendly and accomodating.The food is amazing, always fresh and the chef has as way of mixing unique and unexpected flavors. We heard really good things from a worker here and one day decided to go and check it out for ourselves. We got there and ordered a pasta and a spinach calzone and it was amazing. Their freshly squeezed lemonade was so good and the salad and bread amazing!!!! We enjoyed it so much the next week we took my in-laws and they fell in love too! This weekend was my sister in law's birthday and We got catering from here and wow was our family amazed and impressed with how delicious their food is!!! We ordered a 4 cheese pizza, meet lovers calzone, primavera calzone, barbecue chicken calzone, fettuccine alfredo with blackened chicken and broccoli and lastly the star of the evening was the Pescadori Pasta!!!!
