The staff are so friendly and professional and it's refreshing to come somewhere you know you are a valued customer no matter if it's your first time or 200th time in the year. This family-owned local gem has been popping up in my feed a lot lately so we finally made it in for a dinner. Highlights were the garlic bread and gnocchi, and their pink sauce is to die for! Service was very friendly but the vibes inside were a little strange - I'd definitely come back but would opt for take out. For our dinner we both got the pasta sampler which comes with a half order of their lasagna and two other types of pasta of your choice. Hubby opted for the gnocchi and angel hair and I opted for the ravoli (half meat and half cheese). The server recommended their pink sauce and it was absolutely fantastic! It's a mix of their Alfredo and marinara so if you love pink sauce, theirs is a must for sure. We started with side Caesar salads and they were pretty decent with an ample portion. We also got an order of garlic bread and ommggg it was some of the best garlic bread I've ever had - highly recommend. You'll need it to soak up the more than generous amount of sauce they give you lol! Lots of garlicky butter with a crispy outside and soft inside. Excellent with their flawless pink sauce. Unfortunately I didn't care for their lasagna at all. It had a strange aftertaste and the meat almost tasted burnt. I wouldn't get it again. But their ravioli and gnocchi were both fantastic. Great flavors and the texture of the gnocchi was lovely - might have been the best gnocchi I ever had and I would definitely get this again. We finished our meal with their Spumoni dessert and it was also delicious. Where other Italian restaurants serve it as a bowl of ice cream, Alex's serve it as a decorative slice of ice cream cake and it's so nice! Would also get this again. We almost thought they were closed at first when we walked in - it was late afternoon on a weekday and the restaurant was very dark with a divey, seedy feel to it. And it was completely silent except for banter and music coming from the kitchen - even though there were several other parties dining in. Maybe it's more lively during dinner rush hours? Felt very weird sitting in our dark little corner lol. Despite the weird vibe, staff were helpful and friendly and we felt very welcome by them. I drive past this place frequently while running errands and have always been curious so I finally looked at their website and was really surprised by the low prices. A few friends and I decided to get take away from here and sample a bunch of stuff and overall were very impressed! The portions are massive for the cost, you're getting great value. Is it date night special occasion high quality Italian food? No. Is it home cookin made with love Italian food? Absolutely. The chicken on the Alfredo was so well cooked and juicy, the meatballs were tender and flavorful. The side salad is just a pile of iceberg and 4 cherry tomatoes which was a bit disappointing but the dressing (not sure if house made) was delicious. This hole-in-the-wall, down-home, family-owned restaurant is a local gem with a very solid and loyal base, despite its very dated and dim interior! It has a quiet, nice, friendly, local vibe atmosphere but serves good and downright Italian flavors, and they even provide a free basket of bread with meals! They are only open for dinner, and I don't mind that at all. As for the food, we tried their chicken piccata--the pasta is separated, and the chicken, cut in smaller chunks, has a very distinct lemon flavor, which we lemon lovers appreciate so much! We've driven by them dozens of time, but never tried even though we live about 5 minutes away. After some friends mentioned they came recently and the food was good, we decided to make a trip here. Arrived during dinner time on a Saturday, there were only a few tables occupied so we were seated immediately. There are many framed photos by the waiting area in front, plus photos of Italian landmarks and faux brick framed windows to resemble old Italian buildings. The menu is fairly simple. Several common pasta dishes and pizza. First time here so I wanted to try their pasta sampler, which is a half order of Lasagna and choice of 2 pastas. I picked gnocchi and ravioli. The lasagna wasn't bad but very cheesy. The ravioli was just ok. I couldn't tell if the beef was seasoned or not under the meat sauce. The gnocchi could be a bit more al dente, but it had a good chew. The penne in garlic and olive oil was severely bland. I don't think there was even a bit of salt and tasted literally like what the name is, and nothing else. The service was inconsistent. The first gal that served us was better. She was a bit more personable and checked up on us once, then went to help another section. There were 2 other gals, even though they walked by is a few times, they never bothered to even look over, and as another review said, one gal basically just came by with the check and said 'here'. As we left, I see a few of the gals huddled around the back chatting. Charming interior: 3 Service: 2.5 Pasta sampler: 3 Penne in olive oil and garlic: 1.5 Garlic bread: 4 Hard to give this place anything above a 3. We wanted to try this place for a long time, my caregiver finally decided that we should give it a try. Sadly we were disappointed. We started off with the minestrone soup, it wasn't good. It tasted like Progresso soup from the store, could have used some flavor the garlic was average nothing to write home about then it was the spaghetti . I was underwhelmed. I didn't like the sauce a the pasta could have been better, my caregiver did like the meatballs though. This place is a hit or miss. My 1st time I did an order to go and it was delicious. I had the fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp it was full of flavor and made me want to return for more . 2nd time dining in I ordered the same thing I had brought my family because I had hyped the place tell them it was going to be good . Oh was I embarrassed. The service was cringeworthy. Everyone's food was bland and tasted watered down . I asked for extra garlic in my pasta I was told it would be an up charge and I didn't mind but when my food was brought I asked if extra garlic had been put in my pasta and the waitress told me "I don't know" when I received the bill it wasn't even written down .We kept having different waitresses check on us because they were too concerned about watching the Coachella live stream they didn't even stay long enough for me to ask them anything . I had to hunt down a waitress to ask for a fork. I thought I had found my new favorite Italian restaurant but i guess I'll have to keep searching . In town for Friendsgiving, searched "Italian," and the review vibe for this place screamed Family-Owned Legacy. That could go either way, ya know, but in this case, winner! We order the large Alex Special Pizza and Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with extra sauce. The pizza was really good and the dough had a nice chew to it. I asked for extra sauce for the chicken fettuccine Alfredo because most places come a little dry, but boy... Did they give us a lot of sauce which we did in mind at all because we dipped our pizza crust in it. The sauce was so good! We're already making plans to go back to try other items at Alex! The fettuccine alfredo is very creamy. It came in a big plate but was so slurp-able, easily finish! The pasta comes with either garlic bread of bread with dipping oil. We got the garlic bread. It's not fancy but still tasty. We also got large size pepperoni pizza. It's very cheesy. The cheese and topping can flop out and you're left with just the bread. It's good cuz it's pizza, but nothing special imo. Maybe if you go with their specialty with roasted eggplant and garlic... Staff are also friendly. In summation: 2.75 Stars - Food overall just mediocre. - Service needs to be better, friendly staff but not very attentive. - The interior of the restaurant was a bit dim. - Prices are reasonable. Had dinner around 5:30pm on a Wednesday with a friend. The restaurant had few customers when we first arrived. We were seated immediately. I ordered the ravioli with meat filling/meat sauce. I had it with the garlic bread that's included with the meal. My friend ordered the spaghetti with clams in red sauce. He had the bread and butter as his choice of the bread. My ravioli looked good when it was brought to the table. As I took the first bite, the ravioli seemed a bit "tough" and had a hard chew. As I continued eating, it became apparent that the ravioli was slightly undercooked, but still edible. I ate about half of the plate and took the rest home. Should have sent the dish back but I didn't. (Side note: the table behind us sent back one of their entrees due to the entree - chicken parm - wasn't cooked right). The spaghetti with clams (red sauce) that my friend had was average. I tasted a bit of the dish. The spaghetti was cooked well (al dente) but the clam sauce lacked a bit of flavor. The clams seemed to be canned clams, not fresh. The one highlight of the meal was the bread. The crust was nice and crusty and the middle pillowy soft. The bread tasted very fresh. The service overall was not impressive. We were seated right away. The waitress gave us extra time to browse the menu. Once the food was served, there was no follow-up on how the food was (no "two-bite" check). The waitress did not stop by our table until my friend asked for a refill on his soda towards the end of our meal. She did swoop by our table several times during our meal but did not stop to ask how the meal was. Not sure if this was an "off day" for the restaurant. It did not give us a good impression. It's a very small place at a middle of nowhere ish plaza, but service and food was AMAZING. We tried out a few different things and they have various portions from 1 person to a family style for the salads or pasta. All the ingredients tasted really good. If you're vegetarian, you MUST try the vegetarian pizza. I've never had a veggie pizza packed with this many toppings and flavor. Highly recommend. All the ingredients tasted fresh, you can tell the pizza is handmade. 2. Chicken Alfredo fettuccine- the sauce is delicious, dip the bread in the sauce you won't regret it. The chicken is juicy and tender, perfectly cooked. Noodles were nice and al dente also. 3. The sampler plate - if you are indecisive like I am, this is the dish you should get! As someone said in a review, this place is a hidden gem! I can't believe I've been living in the area for a few years now and never heard of the place until last Friday! We came as a party of 7 and were told probably a 25 min wait but it took maybe ten minutes. The service was great and the waitress kept filling our waters. Portions for the pasta dishes were big, delicious, and perfect for family-style dining. It was the perfect amount for us, our group left happy and full. We ordered Chicken Alfredo, Tabasco Chicken, Pasta Pescatore, Alex's Special Large Pizza, and some Minestrone soups. Everything was great and did not disappoint. This has such a friendly environment and has become a neighborhood gem among Arcadians and other locals. The owner first started in South San Gabriel in the 1970's and moved to Arcadia in the mid 1980's. Food is nicely prepared and never burned, with a nice family style size and taste, which is probably similar to what we all grew up with. I typically order food to go, but the one time we dined in, service was really quite slow. I understand covid has made it difficult in terms of staffing, but the server we had was really quite terrible and she wouldn't even look our way...she'd walk by and serve the other tables. The other server who was working that night was wonderful and picked up the slack. Felt bad asking her for things, but there wasn't anyone else to ask. We had to get up and physically walk over to ask for things (more water, additional silverware, etc). No bueno. Anyhow, not going to let our one dine-in experience ruin it. Thanks to Yelp found this warm and friendly family restaurant in Arcadia. Great ambience and great service that was fast and friendly and candid about our food options. We had an array of pastas and proteins. The pasta sampler was terrific. I had it with gnocchi and angel hair with the pink sauce. I was happy with this! Others had the eggplant parmigiana and the chicken piccata which were also excellent. We also had a pepperoni pizza and that too was great. The meal came with a garlic bread that was hot and chewy. My favorite Italian down the street closed, now a dentist. We ended up here. We ordered water and a sprite. They arr quick to refill whci is nice but they put water in my sprite cup that was half full...OK. Next the soup came, pretty tasty. I thought crackers would go well. I crumbled a couple and put them in my soup, just how I like it. Unfortunately the crackers were so stale, they stayed hard in the soup. I ordered the calzone, she ordered spaghetti. She loves bread, so she asked for some fresh bread. Sadly the stale cold bread seemed to crumble upon touch..not what we're expecting. The final round, the dinner. The calzone was pretty good but usually the tomato sauce is inside, not on the side. Not a big deal, order with ricotta saved my meal any more disappointment. My wife once had a restaurant back home, so she is quite particular to fresh food. I thought, you can't mess up spaghetti but I have and now so does this place. My wife noted the meatballs were old and possibly had been frozen even. There was no problem when we asked to return the meal and a box for mine. We also asked they remove the spaghetti from the bill. I think the waitress was a bit too young to understand how important presentation is. She came to me, threw the bill on the table and threatens me " next time we won't take any food of the bill" turns and walks away. Since I didn't get my box for my meal, I paid at the counter and let the helper how I felt about the meal and her comments. If you get a garbage meal returned, attitude and threats are not how to keep customers. read more

The food is not bad, very typical Italian food. The issue is the service. If you're not a regular, you don't get the warm and fuzzies. You get the very generic, "what are you having", "ok", "here's the bill", service from the wait staff. The owner is a very nice guy, but just not to you if you're not a regular. He's very friendly with the people he knows and I get it, it's human nature, but it's also the service industry and there are many many good Italian restaurants in the area. Ok, some of you may be thinking, oh it was probably very busy and that's why you were or at least felt like you were ignored. Nope. At least two of the three visits had literally one or two other tables, mine and then at least one other table of regulars so it was very evident that we were being ignored and probably because they were busy chatting with people they usually see. I thought I'd push through the generic service to support a local business as I'm literally a 5 minute walk from there but after 3 different visits and the same not so friendly service, I'm out.
