If I could give a higher star rating, I would. This place was fantastic. We went around 530 pm on Saturday evening, we were seated immediately. Not even 60 seconds after being seated, our waiter (forgot his name) came by to ask what we were having to drink and served chips with red and green salsa, and charro beans. The red salsa and charro beans were so good. I could've eaten the beans all night! I had the 3 soft tacos with rice and beans. They serve the beans in a small taco shell bowl, which is so cute! The tacos were great, very flavorful. I ordered a side of sour cream and guacamole to add because why not? I had 2 Bloody Mary's and they have lots of alcohol! Superior service, we visited on a slow Monday, but they waited on us hand and foot. The food was piping hot and fresh. They serve two types of salsa with churro beans and chips to start with. The enchiladas good and saucy. After our meal, the plates were cleared immediately, drinks never hit half empty and the margaritas are s t r o n g. lol. Beware! This place really sucks! Last week we ordered 2 chicken quesadillas by curbside and when we got home, we got beef. I got over it and gave them a chance. Today, I placed an order for curbside at 2:52 PM and we did not receive the order until 3:35 PM. The order was correct but we did not get an apology or anything when we were told that the food should be ready within 15-17 minutes. The owner was there but did not take action. I come here with my 8 year old-daughter every Monday night for dinner. My older daughter has tae Keon do in the same strip mall at this time, so we dine while she practices. I just found out that kids eat free on Monday with an adult entree purchase and a beverage. The waiter charges me every week. Last night I took my wife and three kids, two of which are 10 and 8. Again charged us I brought it his attention and they corrected it. Heck they now have a big ass sign by the bar advising mon and tue kids eat free. The wife and I ordered the specialty margaritas coconut and peach they were horrible! The 99 cent ones taste much better. The specialty ones are $7.50 and not worth we didn't even drink them just left them in the table.The green sauce with the chips is excellent . The carne guisada was tough. Wow talk about living up to the bad reviews! Was with a group for mothers day. Asked for another high chair hostess said "i'll have to find one because we are out." Really? 2 high chairs for a whole restaurant? Chased down manager who brought one. Servers were very lazy never refilled drinks, had to ask. Charged 2 dollars for tiny portion of cheese. Fajitas were inctedibly BLAND i mean not even salt. Ribs were no better than mcrib at mcdonalds. Service took forever and while I understand it was busy but the waiters were in no way in a hurry. If you order a beer beware they only have 2 on draft and they only come in a "Jumbo" size about 16oz and that was FIVE BUCKS! Never again drive a little bit and there are PLENTY of other options. read more

Not good food at all. Very bland chicken fajitas. Came out to the table very pale looking. No taste at all, awful. On plate was only 1 teaspoon of quacamole and sour cream. Tortillas bland and seemed fried. Was suppose to get choice of type of beans and rice and didn't. The place was so hot inside we were sweating. They had one old oscillating fan for the whole place on, while they had lots of ceiling fans they wouldn't turn on. Also, not friendly at all. No one seemed polite or talkative. The main plus with this place is that they have 99 cent margaritas on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The chips and green sauce were so-so. The red salsa was slightly better. I love, love The owner, the food, and the margaritas. Their queso is a bit runny, but we order it every time because it has a good flavor and good fried flour tortillas with it. I would love to continue about their food because their fajitas, nachos, quesadillas, and flautas are super delicious. However, the reason for the review is the music... They have live saxophone music on Friday and though he is really talented, there is no sound barrier in there. It is so loud, that one cannot even hear oneself think-much less have a conversation with the people at dinner. We went tonight, a Wednesday, because we knew there was no music. However, now they have a guitar player that plays on Wednesdays. Again, super talented, but none of us could hear each other talk. We have been to El Asador several times and it just gets better. Great beans and rice--better than any other I've had in Houston. The corn tortillas are home made (I'm sure the flour ones are too, I just don't eat them). The guac is fresh and tasty. Really nice place. It's a must try. read more

The restaurant lacks customer service for sure. Hopefully you won't have any complaints or issues with your order as I did because if you do, you get an incredibly rude resolution even though you are the paying customer, there's zero compromise. The food is mediocre at best. Drinks are watered down. There's nothing about this restaurant that sets it apart from the numerous Mexican restaurants on Mason Rd. I'm knew to this area and my family and I have been trying new restaurants about 3-5 times per week. There's nothing special about this restaurant that would warrant my eating there again or referring it to anyone. I'd give zero stars if it were an option. I'll definitely continue eating at Lupe's and Tony's as the customer service in comparison is top notch. read more

3 stars may be a little much. This place is very hit or miss! I've been 4 times and sometimes it's good and sometimes it's not. That goes for service, food quality and temperature, and length of time food takes. I think it's still in business because it's convenient. My husband's family is from Mexico City and so they are particular about Mexican restaurants serving authentic plates and at El Asador you will not be disappointed! The fajitas are tender and juicy and a plate for one actually is enough for two people to eat and it is served with fresh tortillas made in house. I like the layout of the restaurant. While busy, it is not overly loud. The servers have been friendly and responsive on two seperate occasions. The pre-meal salsas could use a little more kick. I would prefer a different consistent in the verde, as it seems soupy. We have tried several dishes as a family. The servings are attractive with good portions. I really enjoyed the mole enchiladas, which in general is not always appreciated. Overall, the food is good, but not great. With some improvement, I am hoping they stick around. We recently moved about a mile from El Asador and had driven by a few times wondering if it was any good. When I found out about the 99 cent margaritas on Mon., Tues., and Wednesday, I assumed the food would only be "so so". I was pleasantly surprised. The first night I had enchiladas that were pretty darn good and my hubby had carne Guisada and it was awesome. I've gotten hooked on the ceviche and, needless to say, the 99 cent margaritas! This place is amazing! I went for my birthday a few weeks ago and I had the most amazing time with my family. The servers are fun and energetic, and they did a good job of keeping up with our group of 8. We sat out on the patio, which had an adorable eclectic Spanish feel, which is included inside as well. The only thing is Mason is directly in front of the restaurant, so it's a bit noisy but worth it for the environment on the patio; barely even notice it when you're having as much fun as we all did. This is my go to restaurant when I'm wanting some Mexican or a fun outing with some friends/family. I highly recommend. And by the way, if you aren't sure what to get your first time, the steak and chicken quesadillas are a safe bet..my go to! SO delicious. read more
