This is now our go to place for Mexican Restaurant. We have tried the Vegetarian Quesadillas and Vegetarian Enchiladas...both are amazing. My family and I have been going to El Asador for 5 years. I love their enchiladas verdes and my family gets the chimichanga. We haven't been in a few months so I guess they got new owners/ management because it was very obvious. Our favorite waiter was still there and he was incredible per usual BUT they started making the chimichanga much differently, they were oily and the chicken had that nasty chickeny smell/ taste to it. We told our waiter and he called the manager. The manger took his sweet time coming to us and didn't apologize AT ALL and just told us that that's how it's always been made and we're just not use to it. It was honestly very disrespectful. He was very arrogant and so rude to the employees. I usually never say this about anyone especially because I know the food industry isn't easy but we were so nice to him and told him not to take the chimichangas off the bill but he was an absolute jerk. We paid for everything of course, our only intention was to bring it to his attention and his reaction made it very clear as to why the place was empty on a Friday night. In the years we've been coming here we've never seen it this empty on a Friday night. Bring back the old Al Asador and protect the sweet staff at all costs. read more

I want to give this restaurant a 5 star because the food was amazing and the micheladas are so damn good, however our experience wasn't that great! Our server was so extremely rude and annoyed by us or maybe working there. He never offered us water, rolled his eyes when he brought me the wrong order, never came to check on us to see if we needed anything, and we had to call him to bring our check. When we finally got our check he was literally all over us picking up the plates and tables as if he was in a rush to kick us out of there! The red salsa was pretty good, not too heavy. The green salsa was a little too watery for me. I got the orange avocado chicken salad which was pretty good too. This is a new Mexican restauraunt on South Mason Rd, just south of Westheimer. Decided to give it a try for Sunday lunch with the girl. We both agree: No bueno. Things start off bad before we even ordered. The green table salsa tasted like vinegar/fish. The red salsa had no flavor and no spice/kick. We order chicken fajitas for 1 (lunch special) and beef fajitas for 1 (not on special). The chicken fajita tasted like it was cooked before and then reheated before being served. The beef fajita was extremely rare; hard to cut and to chew. Neither had much flavor. We were each given a plate with smallest dollop of sour cream and even smaller potion of guacamole. Seriously, less than a Tbsp of each. Charro beans had no flavor and the refried were marginally desired. The ice tea was good but with a 300% price mark-up. These guys need to go back to the kitchen and cook up some flavor. read more

The first time that my husband and I came here, we were fairly impressed enough to come back and bring friends and family with us. We have put together a group of several friends last night and went to the restaurant for the 99 cent margarita special on Monday's and Tuesday's. We ordered our dinner with a lack of entusiasium by Fabrizzio, and he even forgot to get the order of 1 of the couples at the table until the rest of our food was brought to the table. After everyone finished their meals we were ordering 1 more margarita in order to enjoy our friendship and ambiance of the restaturant when we were abruptly cut off from any further service. After questioning to speak with the owner/manager on 4-5 different ocassions we were ignored each time. He brought us all of our bills and wouldn't say another word to us as we continued to ask for someone. They have now been given a big 0 by our friends, and we are now in search of another restaurant in Katy to take our money to! EPIC FAIL, as our group started with 4 of us and as of last night has grown to 12 and would have only grown larger. Good: Just moved to the burbs - this place rivals most inner loop mexican cusine! The tortilla soup - it's huge, full of veggies, full of flavor - Delish! The enchiladas - excellent sauces, well prepared. Green sauce - again, puts the inner loop "authentic" places to shame! This is as authentic as it gets! We went early on Sunday before the crowd and we were glad. It's a bit pricey, but I see the quality that they use. Started off with queso flameado, in which we were surprised it came sizzling with grilled onions and pico. Yummy, but just wished they gave us more than 2 tortillas. I then had the cilantro enchiladas. A little on the bland side, the creamy sauce needed some salt, but the chicken was of good quality. I didn't care for their Spanish rice, but barracho beans were good. Hubs had the tacos al carbon, he really enjoyed it. Both portions were big. Service was also great. All in all, I prefer a little taqueria for Mexican food, but this place satisfied our craving, so we would definitely return. read more

I feel it may have been a tad understaffed. Our server was friendly but repeatedly forgot things like refills and carry out boxes even after asking repeatedly. I had the Chicken Picoso. It was excellent and I would come back just for it. I tried their peach iced tea - I wouldn't recommend this to anyone. It tasted like dish water and watered down peach schnapps. I took two sips and pushed it to the side. Overall I'd come here for the food on a night when I just want to relax and have good conversation with friends. I just had the greatest experience with this place. I ordered some quesadillas, fajitas and margaritas on DoorDash for me and my husband this evening. The food arrived however the $35 worth of margs didn't make it. Disappointed I called the store and let them know, to which they responded asking for my address. Came here on a Tuesday night for a margarita & fajitas. We'd been seated for almost 10 minutes before anyone noticed we were there. The bartender took our drink order & then some time later the manager came by to check on us, we then ordered our fajitas. The food is alright, but not worth the wait and sub par service. The margaritas were watered down. Placing the cherry on top of the awful sundae? Our bill for two (standard) margaritas ( one per person) and beef fajitas for two with no extras was $60. 99 cent margaritas Monday-Wednesday...amazing!! So cheap and taste great!! Their starter chips come with 3 dips and the bean dip is warm and my favorite!! They have outdoor patio seating which is perfect for the evening while the sun sets. The service is always great and the food is as well. If you order the large queso instead of small they come with the fried tortilla chips, totally unhealthy but worth it on a cheat day! We love coming here and will continue to!
