This Indian restaurant is quite popular and trendy! We did not have reservations for dinner on Friday night, but we were able to sit at bar. The ambience is slightly upscale. We ordered Lasuni Gobi as our appetizer - this was unfortunately disappointing. The cauliflower had hardly any of the crispy flour coating, and additionally, it was soggy and soaked in too much sauce that just tasted like ketchup. For the entrées, we ordered lamb tikka masala and malai kofta. We ordered medium spice. The tikka masala was very creamy and flavorful. I wish the lamb chunks were cut a bit smaller but overall, I liked the dish. As for the malai kofta, it was also creamy, but lacked proper spice and masala flavor. We did enjoy the unique kofta, however, as it seemed to be have a cashews for a crunchy texture. Garlic naan was very good! It was both soft and toasted well with a crunch. read more

Kinaara has some of the best Indian food in town! And the owners and staff put their all into creating and serving it within a very chic atmosphere. Oftentimes, the owners will personally check with diners to make sure they're happy with the food, which is a very nice touch. I love their staples like chicken tikka masala and chicken biryani. But their newer creations, such as the mushroom curry, are always a welcome excuse to deviate from my go-tos. And I love that they're continually adding new dishes to the menu. Great food, everything came out piping hot. Went here for our anniversary dinner and glad we did the earlier reservation time as the restaurant did get louder as more people were seated. Kinaara continues to be one of my favorite go to spots for Indian food in Omaha, especially when I'm hungry for rich gravies, bold spices, and comforting classics. Everything we ordered felt thoughtfully prepared and generously portioned. Masala Fries A fun, indulgent starter. The fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, tossed with Indian spices and topped with sauces that gave them a savory, slightly tangy kick. Definitely not your average fries and it's perfect for sharing. Chili Chicken This dish brought the heat and the flavor. It pair perfectly the crispy naan bread that we order on the side Beef Biryani Not the most classic indian dish with the beef ingredient but it was never the less. Fragrant, flavorful, and hearty. The rice was well-spiced and fluffy, with tender pieces of beef throughout. The fried onions, herbs, and spices added depth without overpowering the dish. Over the space of 3-4 months, I was there at least once a month. The food and drinks were/are bomb delicious. I've ordered chicken korma and chicken tikka masala. We very much enjoyed the food. It was booked with reservations, so we ate at the bar. Ultimately, many did, despite empty tables, but one can expect some folks to flake on reservations these days. The bartender was excellent. That poor soul was solo for quite a while in a sea of guests ordering drinks and dinner. We appreciated her service and the quality of her drinks. The people at the bar were well-behaved, even those who knew others and socialized with them. Good vibes seemed to be had by all. Parking was reasonable. Lots of spots in the enclosed lot. Also good for shopping after, as we wanted to visit Williams Sonoma after. The only real issue was the time it took to receive our order. It wasn't solely our order, though. The kitchen seems to be slow about producing the meals. HOWEVER, the majority of the food was excellent. Truly delicious. The only imperfection was the naan, which were scorched slightly. The larger scorched bubbles appear to have been removed. They were still delicious, so it's a fussy observation. It is the only aspect that was lacking in an otherwise stellar experience. read more

My husband and I are doing the ABC challenge of Omaha restaurants we haven't visited yet, and we chose Kinaara for our K. And let me tell you, it was one of our favorite alphabet restaurants to-date! The decor of Kinaara was really fun and colorful, with a base of solid white to let the colors shine. There are accent walls that give the whole space life. They also have cute minimalist images of Indian cricket platyers (love!) Our server, Ayan, was so helpful and friendly - telling us all his favorite things so we could have some help in choosing what to order. Food-wise, I would say Kinaara is semi Indian "fusion" vs. being just fully Indian fare. We started with Masala Fries, as an example of one of these fusion style dishes. And those fries were excellent. Tangy, sweet, spicy, all at once - yum! The mulligatawny soup was out of this world. Rich and creamy, with the spices giving it a bit of a kick too. The little cup of the soup we had really packed a punch. We had to obviously grab an order of the garlic naan (what I judge a lot of places on, if they offer naan). It was so tasty and buttery, and extra awesome to dip into the sauce of your entree! Speaking of entrees, I chose the Butter Chicken (my go-to, because I'm a bit spice averse) - and it was SO GOOD. You can ask for your level of spice, if you want it a tiny spicier. I also asked for a little extra side of the sauce to dip my naan in and have with my rice too, which they happily obliged. My husband shared my Butter Chicken with me, but he also got an entree that I shared with him. He picked the Lamb Shank Biryani on our server's suggestion, and the meat just fell off the bone! It was served atop a bed of rice to eat with each bite which paired so well with the spiciness of the sauce. I think Kinaara is a once in a while treat, because it's definitely not inexpensive. The price you pay is shown in the quality of the food, so I am not complaining on that, just to be clear. Kinaara made my birthday feel like a warm hug wrapped in garlic naan. My daughter had never tried Indian food before, so I decided my birthday lunch was the perfect excuse to fix that. We arrived shortly after opening and had our pick of the place. Naturally, we settled into one of the adorable and comfy booths. Cozy, with just the right amount of charm. Our server was lovely from the start. She brought us waters and my trusty Diet Coke, and was so kind and patient answering all of my daughter's questions (because ordering Indian food for the first time can feel like learning a new language). We started with the veggie samosas...because when in doubt, start with the crispy golden pockets of joy. They were perfection. The chutneys were next-level good. We were off to a strong start. My daughter went with the classic: mild butter chicken with garlic naan. This is the dish that gently takes your hand and walks you into the wonderful world of Indian cuisine. She took one bite and I swear I saw a lightbulb go off. She was in love. I ordered the chicken biryani at a medium-hot spice level, and it was everything I hoped it would be. Spicy, flavorful, and packed with enough food to feed me for the next two meals. Bonus points for the heat that makes you reach for your drink just enough without panicking. And just when I thought the day couldn't get better, it totally did! While my daughter snuck off to the restroom, she secretly told the staff it was my birthday. A few minutes later, our server appeared with a sticky date pudding (yes, it was as amazing as it sounds), complete with a candle and a card signed by the whole team. Honestly? It was the sweetest touch, and totally made my day. If it hadn't been a gazillion degrees outside, we would've enjoyed their cute patio. Kinaara is delicious but this most recent visit wasn't my favorite, unfortunately. For my drink, I ordered a Cosmo with Tito's. It was a little light, but tasted pretty good. We started with an order of the Masala fries with chicken. The flavors were out of this world but the sweet potato fries were a little mushy and there honestly wasn't much chicken. Next, we asked to order a side of naan but were informed that we were required to order a main course as well in order to get the naan. I found that to be very odd and that was the first time I was told that there. We ultimately ended up ordering butter chicken as well. That is a strange policy that they have now in regards to "sides" needing to accompany an entrée and rice. Especially because someone could easily have an app as their entrée. With my husband and kids out of town I had a lot of free time for once. I had gone shopping at Anthropologie so decided to stop in Kinaara and have a late lunch. Since I was kid free, I sat at the bar. The restaurant is clean and bright. Good spot to meet some friends or go out on a date. The bartender gave me a menu right away and I ordered a cocktail. I don't remember the name but it was the 1st one of the menu. It was delicious and not too sweet. They had several cocktails on their menu and they all sounded delicious. For my food I ordered the chili chicken. It reminded me Chinese sweet and sour chicken. I also ordered the garlic Naan, side of aloo Gobi, and a side of tikka masala sauce. Everything was so good! I got a spice level of medium and it was perfect. I was only able to finish half so took the rest home and had it for lunch the next day. The service was quick and great. The chef even came out to check on me and ask how everything was. My parents have been here several times and they've said it is the best Indian in Omaha. Kinaara, what a great ethnic restaurant addition to Omaha! And, also quite surprising to what was once a West Omaha restaurant move East...very rare to see this. Often times restaurants start in East Omaha and get demand to open a second location out West...which can be hard on local restaurants to manage two locations. Kinaara's original location was out in Millard but have since moved to Regency Shopping Center. And am I glad to see that they are thriving, and the quality of food has not been lacking. Kinaara is a great affordable option to the Regency Shopping Center. Be sure to make a reservation because they do get very busy, and I know their take-out is very popular. Though we had a reservation, we had to wait an additional 15 minutes which we don't mind. People can get very upset about this, but Kinaara is certainly well worth the wait! We started the evening off with an the Lasuni Gobi appetizer, it's a great light vegan option with the cauliflower. Next up, I am a sucker for Chicken Tikka Masala (medium heat) ...it is often my favorite. But sometimes I'll mix it up for the Vindaloo. The spices & sauce on the Tikka Masala is so good and is even better with one of the Naan breads to dip. I am always real impressed with the owner of Kinaara, each time I've dined-in he comes by every table and ask how everything is with your meal...what exceptional service! It seems like even very expensive steakhouses or restaurants lack or have forgotten this touch of service anymore. Kinaara sets not even just Indian restaurants but other higher priced restaurants apart with this level of service. We happen to be at Kinaara during their Hindu festival, Dewali, and they treated us to a free desert sampler with five different deserts. I honestly can't remember the names of them other than the rice pudding, but the fried donut looking one & the rice pudding were my favorites. Kinaara was a magnificent experience. We went on a Wednesday evening. I had a reservation to be safe. I split the Thali with my aunt which is a big platter of different dishes so you can try out a bunch of different options. Pictured below but had already eaten one of the chicken legs and some of the other dishes. They only do this on Wednesdays and Thursdays I believe. Our waitress was great at explaining what it all came with and answering questions. My aunt started with a spiced iced tea which she loved. Then we did the thali with an extra order of garlic naan because you can never have too much naan. We really enjoyed everything all the dishes had such vibrant flavor. Loved being able to try different things as well. This is a must stop for anyone who hasn't tried Indian food, wants to branch out and try new things, or just can't decide on a dish. Such a great way to experience this cuisine. The vibes are fantastic inside the decor is nice and comfortable. Love the food, service is mediocre at best. Loved the tandoori shrimp with poratta as Dan Hoppen suggests, making a taco with the chutney. Butter chicken, naan, etc. were delicious as well as the cocktails. The problem here is the food is amazing and the service is poor. The first time we came here we waited for 30+ minutes PAST our reservation time and were never seated. We were not even offered water or a drink, we asked for the manager and never saw one, and stormed out. We waited a year and went back due to people raving about this place and had a OK time, not the best Indian food in the area but a fresh take, OK service. This trip was back to a less than ideal experience. Waited 15 minutes from seating to get a drink order. Didn't even see wait staff telling us they'd be with us soon. I expected this knowing this place is all good food and poor service, so no surprise. We were greeted AS IF this was totally normal, get your table and wait 15 minutes, so no apologies or acknowledgement that we'd even been sitting and waiting. Quickly ordered drinks apps and the meal proceeded as expected, with a more regular pace. At the end of the meal we want a box, to pay and leave. Again, waiting for a long time with no wait staff helping us. I love the food but you can honestly get better Indian food for WAY less money a mile away, and the staff doesn't treat you like you need them and they don't need you. Atmosphere is decent, but didn't have music playing even though they have speakers I can see. The cost of the restaurant does not match the delivery on the service or ambiance. Not sure if the staff is underpaid, or the leadership doesn't honor quality front of house, but it's a total mismatch. We had 2 sets of silverware and one was rolled normal like, the other was rolled up like 6 inches differentiation because of the poor and inconsistent preparation of the silverware/napkin. This would not fly at most every cheap-o restaurant, but apparently here that's what you get. It really seemed like the staff didn't really care. The price point doesn't match the service. Good food, be prepared to wait and expect you're paying for the food not the service. read more

Very disappointing today. Not busy and I brought my friend. We ordered a drink some naan and some soup. Water came back for entree and an hour and a half later he came and said fish was taking a little longer. Never came back. I had to go back to kitchen to say forget it. We'd pay for what we had eaten but weren't waiting longer. 2 hrs Really for lunch! Someone did come over as we went to pay and tell us no chg there was a mixup in the kitchen and gave us a gift card. Nice touch but after waiting that long I won't be going back. I know stuff happens but be honest about it. The waiter was hiding out talking the whole time. read more
