As we waited, more and more people were showing up one after another, by 9:30 the place was full&for good reason. I got to admit, I've been here 2 times prior to this without a review and YUCK. They would definately improve if their was a wider selection of salsas and if they were better seasoned. We tried this place today since they're supposed to be very popular. This place is tiny, so make sure you come early to get a table, or you're going to be waiting. I noticed a lot of people get their tacos, and they're great tacos! They're very inexpensive too. However, the torta ahogada we had, i did not likE at all. The torta is smothered with their house salsa; and I couldn't even get myself to finish the piece I had to taste. It really tasted like the sauce was mixed with sweet potato. It was so strange. As soon as we got there we were lucky to get a table without wait we weren't greeted but we went with someone that had been before and knew its a seat yourself kind of deal, the menu is already on the table its pretty simple basically the famous dishes from Mexico is what you'll see. We placed our order and our food didnt take to long. The food was very flavorful and prices are very reasonable for the portions. Definitely will have to come back to try different plates. I've been searching for good barbacoa for a couple of weeks. I dined at a trendy modern Latin/fusion restaurant miles from here and they served something they passed off as barbacoa (tasted like mop strands soaked in mild chili sauce). Barbacoa should be done with beef cheeks and/or the meat from the head braised then flash grilled to add some crispy bits. Today I set out to find decent barbacoa. Biriatazo specializes in Tortas in Guadalajara style. But I came for barbacoa. Their barbacoa seems to be done with brisket and then shredded into strands. The barbacoa tacos are distinctive and satisfying with wonderful seasoning and fresh crisp condiments. My only reservation is the barbacoa is a tad too lean for my preference. I like a barbacoa that hits you with the power of well marbled short rib. As far as ambiance there is none, people are here to eat good food period.
