This is a small restaurant in downtown Fitchburg. They have great reviews so we tried them out while in the area. There's some seating, but most folks were taking their food to go. Service was great, lovely, friendly ladies are working the front. Portions are big, price is a steal compared to Boston. As close as you can get to Dominican Republic. Delicious food but wished the portions were as big as they are in Dominican Republic lol. I recommended their rice and beans and breakfast options. It is rare that I give a place 5 stars. This little hole-in-the-wall is amazing. There wasn't anyone on the street in what appeared to be a desolate part of town. But... this spot was packed. The food is traditional Dominican fare but done extremely well. The price is really good for the large portion size. The ladies working here while very busy and kind and attentive. Best food ever and great prices! I go there once a week and everyone who works there hangs in with me as I don't speak Spanish. Cannot say enough about El Bohio. The service here is a mess, the attitude of the workers are unnecessary. So you're in line and they are randomly taking orders of other ppl before completing the orders of those they already have in line. The food is good, the bistec was nice and tender. Food was delicious. They give a bean paste style which I love and the fried cheese was amazing. It's a breakfast I tried once from my friend and been looking for it for awhile which I'm glad I found it but just a little bit different which still isn't to bad. They were very nice but there is definitely a language barrier since they only speak Spanish. It would be nice if they were able to at least speak English as their menu is all in English. Come here all the time. You can stay or get food to go. A friend and I usually share a large to go box and choose whatever we feel like without really knowing the prices. It usually ends up as $10- $16 for the two of us! Hardy servings that even still we may have leftovers. Yummy fried rice, soft and tender meat, yukka fries, sweet plaintains! They also have delicious fried balls stuffed with mashed potato and meat. If you don't know what to order and the owner Manny is there just trust him! The first couple of times, I just took whatever he recommended, I've never had real authentic spanish food like this place offers! I loved everything we tried. As soon as I opened the door to the restaurant not only was I greeted by the amazing workers but also by the delicious aroma of the food. It was my first time there and everything looked so good. So this place is actually called "El Bohio". It's been open for a while, 7 years if I recall the owner saying so, and seems to be mainly a lunch place. Stopped in looking for some Oxtail stew and Chicharrone. Walked out with three lunches stuffed to the brim of the containers. Got goat stew (no oxtail that day), roast pork and chicharrone. The roast pork and chicharrone were fantastic, goat I enjoyed but others didn't appreciate the taste since goat has it's own flavor. I wished the sauce was a bit thicker in the goat stew, but it still tasted alright. I'm anxious to try the oxtail stew as that's a personal favorite of mine. Also had the yellow rice with pigeon peas, beans/sauce, boiled yucca. Everything was good. 3 meals out of each one $10 take-out plate. The roast pork was especially delicious. It had a heavily seasoned and carmelized exterior, but fell apart. No need for a knife here. I'll be going back. Even though there were no chicharrones ready when I arrived, they made them fresh for me with a liberal douse of freshly squeezed lemon juice. Hours are 10am-7pm Monday through Saturday. There are a few tables to sit down at, but it is not table service. You order at the counter, he plates your food (which you can choose from behind the glass) and then sit down to eat. Its amazing and generous portions! I had the roast pork with red beans and rice with plantano maduros (sweet ripe prepared plantains browned to perfection) and also shrimp in garlic sauce served with white rice cooked with black beans, small garden salad also came with. We ate each plate for THREE meals! Thats how down home and generous the portion sizes were! We also tried their meat empanadas...perfection! Traveled 45 minutes to El Bohio for a fantastic dinner this week. Delicioso. We enjoy eating Cuban & PR food, so we were glad to find this restaurant on YELP! The manager was very helpful in assisting us with the menu. We ended up with Chicken in Garlic sauce, Spanish rice, tostones, maduros, and my wife had a pork dish. She was born in Cuba, and knows her Caribbean food. When she says the dulce leche and flan are like Pipo, her Dad, used to make, you know you are in an authentic eatery. Easy parking around the corner. Filled with regulars, their kids, etc. We will be back regularly!!! read more
