One of my best friends always mentions this place, so we finally had a moment to try it out together. On a cold night before thanksgiving last week, we entered the bar and were immidiately served by the quick staff. After some questions, she modified one of the margaritas for us and wow - did we ever enjoy them. I settled on the margarita with mango and mezcal, a surprising but perfect pick me up for a cold Thursday. We then ordered food and we each chose the fish tacos. Boy, I have to be honest... I have had a few fish tacos around town. However, this place wins for sure. You get a whole filet of fish battered and fried to perfection, with a double tortilla and the best pickled and assorted vegetables. For this price, I can confidently say nobody else in Portland would match this. Indoor seating is basic but fine for this caliber of restaurant. Outdoor dining and covered seating from the sun or rain would be nice in good weather, too. I will be back! read more

I decided to finally try this place after driving by it for years and I think I will continue to drive past. We ordered takeout through their website: three burritos and a torta. They left the torta out of the bag, and I've contacted the app I ordered through for a refund but I don't hold high hopes. The burritos we did receive were greasy and unpleasant. We had ordered fajita burritos but the vegetables were barely cooked and had no flavor. One of them didn't appear to have any vegetables in it at all, although I had to stop eating it before getting very far so maybe they were buried deep inside. The wrapper also stuck to the tortillas and left bits of paper behind, although that's not really their fault. The interior of the restaurant was loud and disorganized. I've been coming here every week for a long time, but lately the food quality has been inconsistent. The Surfing California burrito, in particular, has been very hit or miss over the past year--sometimes the shrimp lacks seasoning, other times there's barely any sauce. On my most recent visit, the burrito was noticeably smaller than usual. The asada was scarce and cut very small, the shrimp was overcooked and tough, and I even bit into a full shrimp tail, which was extremely off-putting. They feel off super quick. Was my go to spot since moving back in the neighborhood but they said they got all new people in the kitchen since I started going here and man can you tell almost every time I've been back there has been something wrong with my order, missing something one time, another time preferred chicken and got asada and I don't eat red meat, another time ordered a burrito that supposed to have chicken, pico, avacado, refried beans and rice only got chicken rice and beans. I am throwing the food away. I ordered asking if it was spicy and they offered salsa, so I said no I am asking because someone here can't eat spicy food. They said it was not spicy. Then I asked if they come with sour cream because someone also doesn't want sour cream. I asked if they come with sour cream and they said yes. When I got the order one of the burritos said "add sour cream" and they were spicy as fuck! Way more spicy than normal so they did the complete opposite of what i asked for. I visited El Burrito Azteca a few weeks ago for the first time. I'm enjoying trying Mexican restaurants in Portland and I'm happy to note that I enjoyed my visit and burrito at this restaurant. This restaurant is in the Portland Eater Article which features 14 big burritos in Portland. The burrito that is highlighted is the Surfin California which includes guacamole, shrimp, asada, and fries. It's not my usual order but I enjoyed the burrito and the two salsas available to put on it. The horchata was good. The service was good as well. We ordered some ground beef tacos, chimichanga plate, and a bean and rice burrito. They gave us ample amount of sauces just missing that order of chips and salsa. If they knocked a buck or two off everything on the menu the food might taste better. I suppose people in portland have no gauge for good Mexican food though, considering things geographically... Their food is OK. Pretty mid. I recently had one of their super" burritos that says on their website it includes guacamole and didn't get that in my burrito, so I'm kind of annoyed with that. Take your dog and sit outside, or sit inside. You can also sit in the bar section if you don't have any minors in your group. Don't come here I live close by so I stop every few months. Each time I receive bad attitude from staff. I shrug it off, but this time I order a burrito and it's sitting getting cold. So I politely ask if there's something to be done. They say it's my fault for ordering it to go. Then I ask if maybe I can get a Jamaica for my troubles and I get told in even more detail of how it's not their problem. So rude. The girl at the front was kind at delivering the words but the manager just hid in the back. Also I was charged and ordered shredded beef on my quesadilla and there was no meat in question. I've been craving burritos lately. Breakfast burritos and shrimp burritos. My favorite burrito joint Los Gorditos doesn't have an option to customize your order on Grubhub so I cheated on them with El Burrito Azteca. Their shrimp burrito is probably better than Los Gorditos. They put more shrimp in the burrito and it's just as huge. Plus ordering it to my specifications was way easy.
