Stopped in for lunch around noon on a Saturday. Located in a strip mall area. Plenty of parking around the building, but only a few parallel parking spots available at the building entrance. The inside decor is super cute and colorful. The painting on the walls and furniture is very festive! I love how they have different seating area rooms to spread guests out for privacy. They also have a covered outdoor seating area available. Staff was welcoming, friendly, helpful and attentive. I read reviews about their complimentary chips, salsa and bean dip. We asked for the bean dip, but we found out when we received our bill that it's not complimentary anymore. Bummer. It was good, but not worth the extra $5. They were extremely generous with their chips and salsa, so in the end we were okay paying the extra $5. We ordered the chicken quesadilla and charbroiled burger. Both were great! Fresh ingredients. The quesadilla wasn't greasy at all. Neither were the chips! Our server recommended the pollo asada for my quesadilla and it was much appreciated. The seasoning on the chicken was delicious, including the charbroiled flavor. Overall a wonderful first visit here. We'll definitely be back! Would highly recommend. read more

A birthday celebration was planned 8/4 for my sister (twin) & myself. We started by ordering 3 Premium Margaritas (we had been there 7/30 & they were delicious!). These 3 drinks were very tart...so we asked the waitress if possibly the orange liquor was missing. The bartender, Ryan came to our table, hands on his hips, proceeded to tell us he did not forget the orange liquor...and how many years he had been a bartender! He then turned and walked away. Unwilling to let him spoil the evening, we ordered 3...$4.50 shots of grand marnier & added it to our...already $18.00 drinks....making a huge difference. Apparently they elevated some recipes due to customer requests. It so good now! I took half home and I'm enjoying it today. Only knock was the margaritas. Despite my wife ordering Skinny M and a Jalapeño cucumber for me both drinks just tasted like they drowned it in mix, both tasted the same. Just not great at all. I really wanted to give this local spot 4 stars, but since I live in the neighborhood I feel like I'm already biased, so I'll just say the food - while coming out in hefty portions and served nice and warm - is pretty much average, with a lot of creamy beans on the side and heavily sauced entrees. That said, every meal I've had here is super satisfying and a good bang for the buck, if that's your thing, and I have kept coming back for years cuz I love the cheerful, unpretentious ambiance ...and the service is just straight up genuinely awesome. You see a lot of familiar faces here, and it has a great, family-friendly neighborhood feel so the three different areas - main dining room, bar area and outdoor patio - are usually fairly busy. We went here for my Birthday on the way out of town. All of our food was PHENOMENAL! Some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. We went right at 5pm and we most definitely beat the rush. Our server was amazing, the other wait staff were helpful, and the restaurant was very comfortable overall. The decor is absolutely beautiful inside. The walls, tables, and chairs were all beautiful. Music was inviting and just the right volume to talk amongst ourselves. We will absolutely be going back! PS: Get the Flan... Possibly the best Flan I've ever had in a restaurant. It was exactly how it should be... Thick & Creamy texture cooked perfectly and not scorched at all. Most restaurants Scorch their Flan and it's almost spongy on top. Nobody wants that. Fresh bows of chips, fresh salsa and refried bean dip is immediately brought to the table. Chips are light, crisp and not oily. Perfect way to start the meal. We could find no fault here. The furnishings are lively Mexican and beautifully done. Comfortable friendly place upon entering. This is a really huge space but it is made into nice size dining rooms so you don't see or feel how large it is unless you move around some. I've returned to Casa Colima a couple of times during Covid times, both during the summer and the winter. Their patio out back has enough hanging plastic sheeting to protect customers from the elements, while letting in enough fresh air to at least give the illusion of not being completely indoors. The food retains their solid, old-school presentation. Sometimes, I'm in the mood for the classics, accompanied by rice and cheese-covered refried beans. Casa Colima is happy to deliver on all fronts. During a recent leisurely lunch, the Christmas playlist served up (by my count) at least 5 different versions of the song Feliz Navidad. Despite the potent earworm qualities of this particular song, I'm considering it a very positive part of my experience, going beautifully with my combination plate. The food is well prepared and one thing I am particular about is the chicken and or meat in my meal, and Casa Colima passes with all As. The chicken in my enchilada was white meat with no gristle, no fatty parts, just good breast meat. The beef in the taco was also top quality with no sketchy pieces of fat or gristle that I would pick out. This is my rating of quality food. The service was very good, service staff attentive but not hovering. The Ambience was nice- I gave it a 5 because of the quality of the meat in the food. I have no idea why this restaurant price is at 2/5 '$'s, because it is really quite price. 25$ for one order of fajitas. Casa Colima is a frequent visit from me, conveniently located in the quaint town of Hillsdale in Southwest Portland. I have an affinity for "mom and pop" restaurants and Casa Colima has been family owned since 2004. I enjoy similar faces each time I frequent a restaurant and you'll find this here. Portland has a stigma of not having good Mexican food. Portland has delicious Mexican food like ¿Por Qué No?, Tienda Santa Cruz, Verde Cocina and a handful of others. Casa Colima is high on the list for me. It's not going to win a culinary award however when I want Mexican food this is where I want to eat, they just do it well. It reminds me of some of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Southern California. The food is reasonably priced and worth the money. The margaritas are good and they always have Negro Modelo on tap. Casa Colima went out of their way to make their restaurant vibrant, colorful, and fun. The service is prompt, the waiters are attentive, and the food is consistent. It's what I expect when I enjoy Mexican food.
