Food was great, service was prompt, beat the lunch rush. Always eat to many chips, but the salsa is irresistible.

I am reporting to the health department. honestly, one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant of 2026 oops, first restaurant of 2026, but they sure failed me. First, after ordering drinks took a long time for a wait to come back where we're looking for him. We were so hungry. I ordered the special which was on the menu for 17.99 but they charged me 23 for it or around that amount. There was something wrong with my food. My chili Relleno Was soft and mushy and kind of gray. when he came back at the end, kind of rushing us I told him the food wasn't good and he said OK and walked away. I'm just never came back. I got his attention and told him I wanted to speak with the manager. he pretended he didn't speak English, although I knew he did and he sent someone over which I'm not sure if this person was a manager or not but they were just as bad. She had no care or concerns honestly- to spend $60 for two people on a burrito I'm pissed. but then to spend $60 on a shitty burrito that's next level pissed off. to top it off - we were eating at the table. A man came by with a vacuum cleaner and literally started cleaning under our feet at our table. That's having our full plates of food at the table. Why would they interrupt our meal to do that? literally vacuumed under my feet. It was so weird and rude. We have some new menu items!! The Quesabirilla taco platter was the one I tried. It was very tender birilla but honestly the taco overall lacked depth of flavor. The shell had a great crunch, the sauce is a must!! Add hot sauce if you like spicey because this dish is kind of bland. We came here for my daughter's birthday and still had a great time with great service. There's a new team on board and they don't speak much English but they did a great job. Ambiance still hits. Been here a few times, very good food. Had the Chile Colorado last visit and the Nachos Locos this time. Nachos were a little disappointing, shrimp was a tad fishy, steak and chicken was dry. Came with no salsa, no guac or veggies. Every else enjoyed their food. Place is a tad small but drinks are really good. Will definitely go again, I'll pass on the nachos. read more

We were driving up to LeRoy Michigan and stopped to pickup a prescription in town at Walgreens and it was getting late so we decided to just try something. We were bummed because we were trying to make it to a BBQ place. My girlfriend has celiac disease and Mexican is usually safe. I saw the Yelp reviews and it was still open. It's in a strip mall which isn't always a good sign. But we walk in and the decor is awesome. The staff was super nice. The margarita options were endless and awesome. I had a strawberry pina coloda Miami Vice style one. It was huge and delicious. My girlfriend got tacos and loved them. I took a chance and ordered a menu item that came cooked inside a pineapple. Like half a pineapple fille with steak chicken and veggies with rice and beans and tortillas. It was a non-traditional mix of veggies for a Mexican restaurant. It was incredible. I wish I could go in every week. Absolutely delicious. I also got an enchildada that was great. Very affordable too. An absolute gem. read more

Well after a long day at the hospital we went there to eat my friend got the burrito ordered it with everything inside of it and it came out with everything on the side. I ordered a shredded chicken quesadilla only and got a shredded chicken quesadilla with onions and tomato and peppers. I had told her that it was not right, and she didn't just walked away she didn't care even care to me it is pissed. Poor Service. Definitely one of my favorite dinner locations. Prices are decent and the portions are large. I love the Burritos Raqueta (shredded pork burritos topped with verde and cheese dip) served with rice. The service and staff make it go from a 5 star to a 4 star. Definitely not a fan of the waitresses but it's okay. Saves me money on a good tip lol. read more

Great food! Here for a work trip and I got takeout of their Texas style taco salad. Food was HOT and the shell was so crispy and tasty. Plenty of good beef, chicken, and shrimp. I also ordered a side of chips and salsa and they gave it to me for free. Just wish there was a little more salsa I'll probably be going back again before I leave to try something else. read more

One star, and that's being generous. My experience at El Burrito Loco last night was nothing short of a disaster. The tacos were mediocre at best as well as freezing cold! My order wrong and was almost kicked out because i complained about my food being cold???? but the real issue was the unbelievably rude server. The service was absolutely horrible! The waiter kept saying he was gonna kick us out for anything I asked for. (Sour cream, cheese, anything). I was told the guy that was serving us he was probably 19 or 20 a young man. We were told his name is Leo but on our bill it says cashier is Elias. The service from this man was so ridiculously rude. Me and my friends just wanted to go and get tacos and we get a horrible server. Everyone else was very nice and polite to us. Everytime I tried speaking to a manager Elias would come to where I am in a speedy rush and say get away from him, stop talking to him he doesn't speak English but it's like even when I had my translator up and he could understand me, the server still didn't care. Elias our waiter also was so upset that he was pacing back n forth during the shift. Something was definitely wrong with him and it was only 8:30 place doesn't close till 9:30 and he was so disrespectful. He also threatened to add chips and salsa to all of our bills and walked away when he said it. Mind you chips and salsa is very much free. Honestly, I've never encountered such an argumentative and unpleasant server in my life. The terrible service completely overshadowed the already underwhelming food. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else for your taco fix. El Burrito Loco is a hard pass I would recommend Taco Bell instead of that crap. read more

For how expensive they are, they should have plates that aren't chipped. Not to mention, it took 5 minutes just for us to be seated when they were slow. And the line for people to pay was long. I liked the nachos but the beef tasted a tad sub-par as well as the cheese. Other than that, the serving sizes were big for what you payed for and the chips were great! We were so excited to try El Burrito Loco, however, we were disappointed. As you walk in the decorations are so neat. The restaurant smells amazing. And the menu looks good. We ordered the cheese dip and it was extremely bland and runny the waiter himself told us it was plain but we at least thought it would have some peppers or onions in it. My daughter got the seafood enchiladas which we can only describe as cheese quesadillas with shrimp on top and more of their cheese sauce poured on top. The most disgusting food, and worst service I have ever had. One of the Cooks, must not have realize my wife spoke spanish and made very rude remarks about my wife sucking dick. He also proceeded to use the restroom and not wash his hand before returning to cooking without gloves on. After mentioning it to staff they simply had him put gloves on. Stopped in for lunch on our way through town. El Burrito Loco, a seemingly typical Mexican restaurant, is right off the highway. At first I was struck by how pricy the dinner menu was, but then I was impressed by the lunch menu and its prices. Our waitress was clearly knowledgeable about authentic Mexican food and our lunch choices did not disappoint. I had beef tip taquitos and my husband had a chicken burrito. Both were excellent. The best part of the meal were the sides; the beans, Spanish rice, and guacamole were all super flavorful. Would stop again for lunch. read more

I was warned that when paying with a credit card and leaving a cash tip to make sure you put a zero on the tip line. We did this; however, EL BURRITO LOCO in Big Rapids decided to put a zero on top of our zero to make an 8. When I called them, because $8 is not worth the 30-minute drive, the "manager" I talked with said he could not pull up records from 6 days ago to prove or disprove this issue. For the last five days my bank showed a pending amount that was correct, so I had thrown my receipt away. I told him I am not concerned with the $8, but if It were my business and I was the manager I would want to know this occurred. Meh. This place benefits from being the only port in a storm; there isn't another good Mexican option in the vicinity, so if you have a taste for that style of food, by all means go. However, compared to "good" Mexican, this is poor quality and small portions for too much money. I recommend going for lunch if you do decide to try it because your money will go a little further. This place is average at best. Maybe it's because I come from Texas and have a passion for Texmex and/or real Mexican food, but this place is subpar. The food is fairly bland, the beer selection is wanting, and the service is "okay". After the many times I've been here (we live near) I'd say that the Texas Fajitas are your best bet. If you order anything else you had better like red sauce....they put it on everything, but they are good about substituting. Update: We were wanting to grab a quick bite of Mexican and didn't want to drive 45-min so we came back. The food was the same as always....meh. However, the service was horrible. I had to get up, take our tea glasses, and find someone to get a refill. It's not like the waitress didn't know our glasses were empty....she walked by FIVE times before I finally got up. If you are from the Midwest, particularly more rural areas, you will think it's great. If you are from the Southwest, you might cry, hot, bitter tears of disappointment. You start off with chips and salsa. The salsa is good, and fresh tasting, but it's definitely gringo salsa. Almost no cilantro. No spice. It's lovely and fresh and tomatoey, but it's not what I call salsa. I asked for a hotter salsa. That one was salsa. I didn't want to burn my husband so I dipped my chips in the hot salsa first and then a nice scoop of the mild stuff. Perfect. If I had my son with me I would have made a ratio 2/3 mild to 1/3 hot and it would have been perfect. That and some more cilantro. I also sprinkled the bean dip liberally with the hot salsa. That was lovely. I ordered the taquitos plate and a pork tamale. The tamale was good, not Los Angeles good, but it made me much less homesick. It was served with a bowl of what tasted like enchilada sauce, which wasn't terribly spicy. The taquitos were not what Angelenos think of as taquitos, we would call them flautas. Taquitos means "little taco" and should be a corn tortilla. But the meat was good and flavorful, they were served as I am used to, and the rice is nice. More perplexingly, my husband ordered chicken enchiladas suizas. What he was served seemed like tiny Jack cheese burritos (again with the flour tortillas instead of corn) covered in the white goo from the beans and cheese dip that is so ubiquitous here, and topped with pork. It seemed like a very mild chile verde made from what I suspect is the carnitas. My husband graciously declared it a new interpretation on chicken enchiladas suizas, but I'm pretty sure I had those for lunch one time and other than being chicken cooked in red sauce, they were a kissing cousin to actual chicken enchiladas suizas. It was late, perhaps they were out of chicken. The pork was tasty, my husband enjoyed that part, we were fed, and I didn't have to cook after a nightmarish day. That's what really matters. The margaritas are mix, no surprise there, I suspect you can't find a hand made margarita in a 40 mile radius of here, but they were strong and pleasant. Don't get me wrong, there is much to like here, especially if you are a local. There is much care that goes into the preparation here, it's honest food if a little heavy of the GFS goods. I think next time I'll get the carnitas plate and I'll probably be ecstatic. The service is quite good, they are nice and attentive. The flan however is a no. It's not the creamy, eggy, dense kind, it's the quivery, gelatinous from a mix kind with too many bubbles that comes from mixing in a blender/mixer and not letting the custard rest or tapping the pan on a counter. It also has an unusual spice note that reminded me of New England baked custard, not of flan. I'm not sure how much flan they could possibly sell in Big Rapids and it spoils so easily so I can't blame them, but oh, I wanted to cry.... Given the other dining options in town I usually default to a Wendy's double when I don't want to cook. This was definitely a wonderful break from that. This place has earned their spot here. But as someone from Los Angeles who is a pretty adept cook, it's not the Mexican food I grew up with or raise my kids on. If you're looking for authentic, there are some great options in Grand Rapids, but if you need comfort food close to home, this is a great option we are lucky to have in a town this size. read more
