This place is a hidden gem, I've eaten here while visiting the area several times over the last few years. Great food! I ordered the pan fried walleye. It was nice and crispy, delicious! The garlic mashed potatoes, definitely made from scratch. Fresh side salad complimented my meal. The handbreaded fried mushrooms and onion rings were delicious. I had the perch dinner, my husband a burger, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The side of Mac n cheese was probably my favorite--the cheese sauce is so good. The owner was our server, and she was super nice and on top of it. The ambiance is what you'd expect in a small town bar; you can tell it has history and character. The food is not what you'd expect from a small town bar because it's much better. I can't believe it's been so long since I've come to the River Junction! My family and I used to come here all the time but it looks like we haven't been since I switched to YELP. So we are way overdue!! I ordered the smothered chicken with vegetables and a house salad. My husband ordered the Muskegon Melt and fries, my daughter got the kids mac n cheese and my son got a personal pizza. We had the cheese bread and hand dipped mushrooms for an appetizer. The hand dipped mushrooms were ridiculous! Usually when you order fried mushrooms it comes out in a basket of 6-8, this was a serious basket of mushrooms! Well worth the cost of an appetizer and they were very crunchy and tasty. The dough on the bread and pizza were cooked to perfection. When my husband ordered the Muskegon melt, he was not asked what temperature he would like it cooked to. It came out mid well and my husband usually likes it mid rare. However, he enjoyed the burger nonetheless. My son rates his pizza 3 out of 5 stars and saying it was just underwhelming. The pineapple was canned, it was too greasy, and he couldn't taste the onion. The kids Mac n cheese got 5 stars from the 9 year old Mac n cheese connoisseur. I tried it and it had good flavor but the pasta was overcooked. My smothered chicken was dry! However there was good flavor throughout the dish. Food quality gains 3/5 stars this trip, taste gains 4 stars, and freshness gains 3/5 stars as well since some of the ingredients came from frozen or a can. Service gains 4/5 stars! Our waiter was attentive and polite. I would only suggest remembering to go over the specials and asking how people would like their meat cooked. Otherwise, he was spot on. Ambiance and cleanliness also gain 5 stars. I have no feedback to offer here. I love the relaxed country theme and it's well pulled off. This gives 3.8 stars overall but this will be rounded up to 4 stars! Oh and we finished our meal with a lava cake... ummm only way to end this meal!! It was fantastic!! If you're driving through I recommend giving River Junction a try. read more

Just noting that, sadly, this restaurant is closed . We were visiting from out of town to find it vacated and got sale. Very fond memories of eating here with the family and everything was always so good! Only slight against it at all is the length of time it would take for everything to come out, but that just gave extra time to visit. I miss the general store that was here as a kid too read more

Great place to stop for some food and drinks even though it's one of the only places to stop in Hersey. We come in here usually once at least during our visits for deer rifle season. Always pleased with the service and the food. Usually have some great burgers and pasta served up here. I'd certainly recommend checking it out if you're going through Hersey or if you feel like slowing life down a bit, go into Hersey for a couple hours just to relax and enjoy some food here. Went on a Friday at dinner. We were seated immediately and the staff was very pleasant. The menu is very impressive and most items are very good prices. We ordered the Tomato-Basil Cheese Sticks as an appetizer (made in an eggroll wrapper) and they were amazing. My wife had the Bourbon Chicken Wrap and chips; I had the Meatloaf with veggies and mashed potatoes. I don't think any of these could have been any better. For dessert she had Strawberry Shortcake and I had Peanut Butter Pie. Again, they could not have been better. Serving sizes are very good. My wife had two full meals from her wrap and I had 1/2 with my leftovers. The meatloaf gets a lot of interest because it's different than any I've seen. It has cheese in the center and has an almost taco seasoning flavor. Very, very good. The mashed potatoes are red skin potatoes with gravy and were perfect. They're not over-seasoned at all, just good old potatoes and gravy. The rest is as you'd expect. Highly recommended and my new favorite restaurant. read more

Vegetarian pizza was spot on! One of the better I've had. Portions for the group I came in with were huge! More than enough for two meals. Chicken tenders were good. Panko shrimp was tasty & done well. The Mac & cheese was lackluster. The burger was poorly done; no flavoring or seasoning, just a big 'ole slab of ground beef.
