    Super tacos pastor

Best tacos in caldwell.... Very similar to the ones i used to have in san jose California back in the day..... their salsa and horchata is so authentic. Best taste for your buck for sure.

Street tacos $1.50 each. Carnitas and abobada

Once again on the road looking for Mexican food that is not Gringo-ized with yellow cheese. This time it was in a parking lot of a used car lot in Nampa. 2717 Caldwell Blvd is the address where Tacos Ayala has their truck. It looks very permanent from all indications with a covered patio area for eating right there. Looking at the outside of the truck, one cannot confirm the name of the establishment. The awning covers the name on the top of the menu which says El Burro (something). What's in a name anyway - I'll go with the historically used name. I was there to eat, not read. Most important is what comes out the window. This place did not disappoint. I got two of their "simple" tacos ($1.50 each) - Carnitas and Adobada. These are street tacos, not the giant tacos served at Pantera Market up the blvd in Caldwell for $1.40. Look at the quality of the meat in the photo. Nice shredded, not cubed or diced Carnitas (taco closest to the phone lens). It had a rich texture and flavor that only comes from being fried up on a hot surface before being put in the tortillas. The tortillas had some oil reside on them, because they were also recently been on the flattop before being stuffed. Too many places skip this step and the tortilla comes out cold, stiff and flavorless. Folks, this ain't some health food station, it is for max flavor and the right flavors. See that the Adobada has the same shredded look. I would judge these MEAT fillings to be superior to any of the "truck fare" I have tried in the Treasure Valley. The garnish was simple, standard onion and cilantro, along with a slightly spicy green sauce. It is not necessary to hide the meat under a blanket of flaming sauce or gooey cheese because the flavors are in the meat and tortillas. They have chicken, carne asada, carnitas, adobada, lengua (tongue), daily and cabeza (beef cheeks) on the weekend. For those who want a more substantial taco or burrito, I have included the menu. The offerings are quite different from the standard taco truck in the TV. Looks like they are going for an "upscale" style. Quesadillas along with meatless tacos and burritos are available. The prices look excellent when considering the "extras" that come with the fancier items. I was here for "plain" to test the foundation of their approach. Next time, I will go for a fancier meal, now knowing the quality of the ingredients.

Mi pueblito is a restaurant that is definitely loved and frequented by locals. You could tell that…read moreeveryone knew we weren't local by some of the glares from patrons we received, but were warmly welcomed by the staff. We were quickly greeted and offered drinks, though my unhealthy obsession with Diet Pepsi could not be fulfilled here...they don't carry it (only Pepsi zero). It seems that most soft drinks are bottled only, which is fine but unexpected. We ordered waters, which were quite delicious and nicely iced. I ordered the huevos con chorizo, that comes with "Mexican " potatoes and refried beans. I received my meal pretty quickly. The downside? It took another 4 minutes before my husband's meal arrived. My eggs were perfectly cooked and the beans seemed very homemade. They had an enticing texture and taste. The potatoes were a great addition, with a nice pan roasted flavor. The meal comes with 3 corn or flour tortillas. Everything was piping hot. I loved every bite of my meal. Once my husband received his meal, he loved the flavor of his burrito as well, especially the rice, beans and nicely toasted tortilla. The menu has all prices blacked out so it's hard to gauge cost for a meal. For the quality of food, I found our meals priced accordingly...though I would have loved better soda choices. Regardless, the food was made well, though table meal service could have been timed better.

It was my birthday, and family tradition says the birthday-ee gets to choose dinner. I was going to…read morehit my favorite Mexican restaurant, but in my mind, molcajete came up. A quick Yelp review showed that Eliza's had recently opened. It wasn't in the core of old downtown, so it's a little tough to find. It's next to a Hispanic grocery. You walk in and go to the counter to order. The menu is perfect. There aren't a million things to go through. We got some guacamole and chips, tacos, a torta and the molcajete. I got a medium horchata to drink. We found a place to sit and a cute little fella came to deliver our chips and salsa. The salsa was fresh, and very clean tasting. I enjoyed it a lot. After a while the guacamole came out with chips... it was a hit. I little on the spicy side, but it was fresh, no doubt. While we waited, a mariachi singer came in and sang... and boy did he sing. He was fantastic. We absolutely loved the intimate concert. It took a while, but our food came. My wife had the tacos and loved them. The torta, for the 13 yr old, was great his only complaint was it was a little too toasted. The meat was fantastic. The food was legit. If you've never had a molcajete, it's an experience. The thing is a flaming hot stone bowl,(no touchy, it's hot,) filled to the brim with shrimp, strips of grilled chicken, Carne Asada, cactus leaf, cheese, onions, and some jalapeno strips. They bring it to you hot as can be in a boiling stew of a tangy green sauce. It's not cheap, but it could easily feed 2-3... The horchata was great. I enjoyed it, it was totally refreshing. The food came and so did the songs, BTW, if the guy we heard tonight is singing, you need to show up. He's seriously awesome. They were so polite and I really enjoyed it. Here are the things I took a star off for. 1. As sweet as the waitress was, she got distracted a few times, and could have paid a little more attention. I am gonna chalk this up to inexperience. We needed a chops refill a few times, and there were only two tables filled tonight. 2. It was pricey... but worth it. 3. This is NOT fast food. Plan on a long wait. Understand though, that you are getting some made to order food, not just a scoop of something out of a bucket. There were a lot of people making food, so it was weird to have it take that long... the singer made it ok.. because he was fun to listen to. 4. They could serve and refill water, instead of selling water . The kids wiped out their water bottle in minutes. All in all, the things they can improve on didn't impact the quality of the food. It was REALLY good. We will be back... I think that they will continually get better and faster. With the quality of the food, I'm shocked this place wasn't packed.
