We were craving tacos and decided to check this place out! From the outside it appears to be small. However, as you enter you'll notice that it's pretty sizable. The staff are friendly and helpful. Now let's start with the tacos! We ordered lengua, cabeza, buche, tripa, barbacoa and adobada tacos. I didn't taste any chunks of rubbery fat on any of them and the meat was super tender! My favorite are the tripa tacos. Overall, their food was great and fairly priced. The staff was also great. We'll definitely be coming back in the future! read more

Got the adobada super burrito without lettuce- probably the best burrito I've ever had. They weren't stingy with the cilantro, well balanced ratios, all components were very flavorful, and really good spicy and mild salsas on the side. I've only eaten here once and got chicken tacos only so that's what the review is for. I'll update as I try out other items. The chicken tacos were delicious! Very basic, just doubled tortillas (homemade), finely minced chicken, and cilantro. It comes with onions too but I asked for no onions. I took a star off because the cook came around and gave me a dirty look because she had to remake it. I very clearly told the cashier guy no onions so it wasn't my fault. The cashier guy and another lady working the counter were very friendly. No complaints there. It's amazing how rude or indifferent service can really ruin a place. Anyway, I got the verde salsa to put on my taco. I ate it in my car and it was so good I went back inside for another one. I could drink that salsa! It was more on the mild side but very flavorful. The slices of radish on the side were crisp and yummy. Next time I'll definitely order two tacos at once because that pretty much filled me up. Three might have been too much. I'd also go for adding avocado slices next time. The tacos are reasonably priced at just under $3 after tax. I went at night and the atmosphere is definitely lacking. Fluorescent lighting and just sort of sterile. Definitely not intimate. People are waiting for their orders and it's a small space. Next time I'll emphasize no onions more so that they're made correctly, because I'd hate to take them to go and find out they had onions. I know I'm an outlier but onions taste terrible to me. After tonight I can't recommend this place or trust their take out. I got home and realized they gave me the wrong order. I called and they ask I return the incorrect food and they proceeded to hand m my order that had been sitting there now for over 30 min. I kindly asked them to remake it people make mistakes it's fine. The girl at the front said "it stays warm for up to 2 hrs". I asked again and someone from the back came stated they'd remake it. They proceeded to only reheat the food and claim they had remade it. Called and spoke to Kimberly, person in charge, and she swore it was fresh when the food was clearly cold. I'm also certain I watched a couple come in and pick up the food I had just returned AND OPENED AT HOME. I've been coming to tacos el Rey for YEARS and I'm sad to say I will not be coming back any time soon. I'm disappointed and I can't trust them. I've been coming to taco el reys 2 since the taco truck opened in 1999 25 year tonight the young lady the cashier. Made me not want to come here ever again. She's rude very disrespectful. I don't think she knows how to provide customer service at all. She entitled i guess. The last time. Waste of time. Disrespectful kids serving you. Need to tran these kids. The food was the second I order the fries and once again I broke the fork. I feel this restaurant is going down hill fast with. We get carry out and if it isn't a peak meal time, it typically takes only 10 minutes...can be much more when it is busy. I have given you five stars two times. Then when I go back in, I clearly ordered everything just like I have done for the past seven years. I do see if there are new girls there. Obviously they do not understand how serious we are about our food. everything is wrong. The new girls had no idea how to take an order. We asked for a quesadilla with just chicken and cheese and it comes with everything else in it. We asked for just rice they put beans in it. We asked for tacos with just meat and avocado. We'll pay for the avocado. We get cilantro and onion. I ask for a burrito with no beans add cheese, I get a burrito full of just rice. No cilantro no onion no cheese it was bad. I paid for five tacos with just Asada and cheese and we get Asada cilantro onions, no cheese which we paid extra for we tried to bring this up to the girls at the counter, they were put off and annoyed, so therefore, we left with all of the food that we did not order. read more

After visiting this location numerous times in the past, I ordered ten tacos (like I usually do) and once my order was ready I received 5 tacos. I let the clerk know I ordered 10. She stated I had ten because there are 2 tortillas so I can make two tacos out of it. Um what? Is this something new because I've eaten tacos my whole life and not once have they been single tortillas. I had the Al pastor tacos, with tomatillo salsa 5 stars. The gal at the counter (really inconvenienced by customers) was why I gave 3 stars. read more

Barbacoa Tacos Alpastor Tacos Asada Tacos These tacos really can not be beaten. The meat is always so flavorful, savory, and succulent. The brightness of the cilantro and the white onion give and excellent crunch and burst of flavor to this dish. It is an add on if you want cheese, and you want the cheese. It is a creamy and mild white cheese that melts wonderfully into the meat. I always get mine with the from scratch corn tortillas (each taco comes with two). They are filled the the brim and can easily be made into two tacos to avoid spillage of the toppings. They are a little larger than palm sized tacos. I like to order 2-3 while my partner normally orders 3-4. The quesadillas and tres leches cakes are also things we have tried and thoroughly enjoyed. (We really must explore the rest of the menu but once you've found something so spectacular it makes you so much less adventurous to go on looking for a new favorite. My suspicions are that you would feel this way with any item on the menu you chose, as the air always smells so delicious it is truly mouth watering) If you are a spice lover as I am, I could not recommend their orange habanero sauce more. We purchased 16oz of it on 3 separate occasions to keep in our own home because it is good on everything. They also have Topo Chico and Mexican Cokes, as well as fountain drinks. The staff are just wonderful and so friendly. They are multilingual speaking Spanish and English that I have heard. This is a place that is in our rotation. It is a must visit if you are in Boise for even one meal! The paved parking lot is shared and relatively small (like a gas station size maybe) but their is a couple dirt plots just adjacent to Taco El Ray that accommodates for ample parking as well. I was born and raised in Texas, I am Mexican, and love spice. These ARE AMAZING AUTHENTIC TACOS! I was worried when moving so far north that I would long for good Mexican food- my worries have been snuffed out by TACO EL REY! The food here is delicious! Even though it's just a truck on the side of the road, there is a nice shaded patio and a small inside space with a bathroom. The tacos are not to be missed (the carnitas and pollo were my favorite) but the quesadillas are great too. If you do a combo meal (#10 is my fave) you get two tacos and a quesadilla as well as rice and beans. Such a huge amount of food for $8. We'll definitely be back next time we're in the area. We walked to this taco truck after having a wine tasting at Cinder. The place is clean and the tacos were delicious! I ordered 4, two tripe and two carne asada -- but I could've easily eaten more. While this restaurant is obviously popular with Spanish speaking people, we can NOT recommend it for English-only speaking people. We had a long wait, and an even longer wait to get our food. About 30 minutes in total wait. The cashier we had did not speak or understand English. We tried to order a Super Burrito with our choice of marinated pork. She initially punched in a different meat, and then with the help of a second cashier, ours corrected it to pork. Or so we thought. What we ended up getting was their regular burrito (at the price of the super burrito) with a very dry and flavorless meat that was obviously not marinated pork. Our burrito was missing the "super" components of sour cream, lettuce, and guacamole. So very dry. The burrito was large and very heavy, but this overall experience was beyond disappointing. Unless you are a regular, and able to speak Spanish, DO NOT GO TO THIS RESTAURANT. read more
