We stopped in here for the first time on Saturday. We were required to wear masks to enter the restaurant and the employees were wearing masks as part of the covid-19 requirements. We were immediately seated as we walked in and our waiter came and took our drink order and allowed us to look at the menu. There were three of us and a child. They brought our drinks and then our child's drink in a styrofoam cup with a straw. Our waiter also brought warm chips and salsa, if you like your salsa with some heat in it you will be disappointed as there was none. Maybe they have something with a higher heat level if you ask I don't know. I decided to go with one of the "Plates of the House" I ordered the Molcajete. The hubby ordered the number 3 combination dinner which was one ground beef burrito, one ground beef enchilada, and one ground beef taco that was served with lettuce, sour cream, and sliced tomato. My son ordered the Burrito Real with cheese sauce. He ordered his son the marinated chicken strips and fries from the children's menu. Everyone received their food and my son had ordered the shredded chicken but apparently the waiter did not hear him and also he didn't ask if he wanted it with chicken or ground beef even though it's an option on the menu. He did not send it back he just went ahead and ate it. This was pretty typical Mexican restaurant food. I will say with the molcajete that if you are not hungry do not order that, it was lot of food! It was very tasty though it was like a fajita on steroids. I am sure we will stop here again as we pass this restaurant often. read more

I chose the Chimichanga and it was very good - especially the side guacamole salad in a miniature taco bowl. The chips were very good and fresh and the salsa was out of this world. I flew over to meet my son for dinner as he was working over here. I wasn't extremely hungry, but wanted to spend time with my son. Ordered a water to drink and looked over the extensive menu. I noticed that this is not what I would call authentic Mexican, but appeared to be a good alternative. My son ordered a water and his friend a Margarita. The free chips and salsa came out, the chips were hot and the salsa not too spicy, but good flavor. I didn't know what to order so in true Joey fashion I asked the waiter for a recommendation. I didn't even look at his suggestion, I just accepted it. Well it basically was chicken with cheese and rice. Very Very good. I would recommend this to anyone. I even ended up taking about half of it home. My son and his friend ate almost all of their food. Upon entering this beautiful stone building, we were immediately welcomed by friendly staff who's cheerful demeanor gave way to large smiles that were only slightly hidden by their COVID-friendly masks. My wife and I were quickly seated, even though the place was very busy boasting a packed parking lot. Soon, after being seated, we were welcomed by our personable waiter who sounded genuine when he called me amigo. Before we knew it, he was back with fresh, warm tortilla chips and a bowl of hot white queso, which was only slightly spicy but very flavorful. We loved that the restaurant's atmosphere felt very authentic and was wonderfully decorated while not being overbearing. So many things looked amazing on the menu but I ultimately settled on the Paella Mexicana, which had grilled shrimp, imitation lobster (which could have fooled me to be honest, as it had the taste and texture of real lobster), steak and tender, juicy grilled chicken mixed in with onions, and bell peppers on top of Mexican rice and drizzled with queso. This dish came with 3 warm flour tortillas to wrap all that goodness up in! (I had to request more though because there was so much food!) Not to be outdone, my wife ordered the Molcajete, which is a traditional hot stone bowl consisting of grilled steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, pineapple (yes, it absolutely works, adding just a hint of sweetness), onion, bell peppers, tomatoes, cheese and rice. This was BEYOND incredible! These folks know how to make a mouth-watering meal. The portions were also very large! I enjoyed everything about this place. There was plenty of parking in their lot, so I went right in. The lobby, in fact the entire restaurant, is filled with colorful art work (not your typical stuff...they have paintings and sculptures too!) As I walked was being shown to my table, all the staff greeted me as I passed by. My beverage was brought out and moments after my order was taken, a huge bowl of chips and a decent sized bowl of salsa were delivered (complementary). The chips looked like they may have been house made. Nice flavor and crunch. The salsa had some larger bits of tomato in it. That was nice too! I probably hadn't eaten a half dozen chips before my entree showed up. That was fast! I had ordered the Nachos Reales with steak (they also have chicken). The platter was 14" x 9", so I could tell I wasn't going to be able to finish it. The platter had the nachos with cheese, cheese sauce, beans, and steak. They also had a small taco bowl filled with sour cream, lettuce, guacamole, and pico de gallo. The flavors were great and the steak was mostly tender. Very savory dish. I found the value of the meal to be quite good for about $12. The flavor is what impressed me. The large portion was a bonus. I also liked that the waiter picked up that I was from out of town and he chatted with me about where I was from and what brought me to Connersville. Very personable without being intrusive. Just a nice conversation. Bonus for that after spending the morning on the road by myself. Check out was quick too. I mentioned it to my waiter when I asked for a "to go" box. El Caballo Blanco (white horse) is an exceptional midwestern Mexican restaurant. The number one factor that made this business stand out for us was the decor - both interior and exterior. Stepping into this restaurant takes you to another world with colorful booths, light strands overhead, high ceilings and a surprisingly large amount of space (I believe there are three dining rooms total). I chose this restaurant based on the great reviews - they're spot on. Excellent service - both attentive and friendly. Uber budget-friendly - $3.75 margaritas on Saturdays - ayayayaya! Vegetarian section in the menu. $5.99 for the veggie plate with rice, beans, guac, lettuce and sour cream. The salsa has the perfect amount of chunk - by my own standards, that is. Service is always on point, food is always good, very fast to the table, prices more than fair. No complaints at all. Everyone is so friendly.. I recommend the Tilapia and Aroz con camerones. I've been going to this restaurant for years and it never gets old. Their salsa is my favorite and I tend to compare every other Mexican restaurant's salsa to it, even the ones I visited in Texas. It isn't as runny but there is just something about it that I just love. Something that is also unique is their red sauce. It isn't as runny either. A lot of restaurants have a sauce similar (except for taste and freshness) that you can buy in a can, but this sauce has a smokiness and dark color to it that you don't usually find. I can guarantee that if you usually enjoy red sauces then this will open your eyes to a whole new way of topping enchiladas, burritos, etc. Other than those two things the food seems to be pretty typical of most Mexican restaurants. I almost always get the a la carte order of cheese enchiladas and it never fails in taste. Another favorite is their grilled chicken salad. I'm not sure what spices they use on the chicken but it's delicious. And if you top it off with a little queso sauce (which kinda defeats the purpose of getting a salad) it takes it up a notch. Their nachos are good too. The ones with ground beef, beans and shredded chicken are super good and you get a giant platter. They can be a bit much with the chips if you just stuffed yourself with chips and salsa though. The servers are extremely kind and like to say, "See you tomorrow!" when you're leaving. And unless, they are super busy, like Sunday afternoons during the church crowd, then there are few times they don't get you a refill immediately. They are really on top of making you happy. My family and I always enjoy our meals and never leave hungry. Usually we leave with leftovers because who isn't gonna fill up on chips and salsa? Especially when they taste this good. read more

I've now been here three times for lunch while working in town, and am consistently impressed. Today I had the shrimp fajitas, and they were absolutely perfect- sizzling on the iron, perfectly seasoned with full flavor, peppers and tomatoes cooked right, which is to say, not burned as is too often the case with fajita dishes. Their salsa also ranks highly with me- great flavor, plenty of garlic, pureed but thick, could use a tad more cilantro, but that's nitpicking.
