During Thanksgiving holiday, I developed severe pain in my upper gums/cheek area. I was on holiday in central coast and was forced to cut it short. After trying to contact my regular dentist, El Cajon Dentistry appeared with "emergency" options in my search. I was so worried about being seen since it was a major holiday weekend! On a whim, driving through LA with extreme pain, I called them and spoke with Dr. Alpatty. He was very nice and able to see me within the hour. I was willing to do anything to make the pain stop. I arrived around 1:30pm for an emergency visit. I provided my insurance, answered some routine questions, and signed some consent forms. Dr. Alpatty was thorough and attentive to what was causing my pain and the steps needed to resolve it. Come to find out, I developed a significant infection. Dr. Alpatty performed a root canal and relieved the intense pressure. I was worried because the tooth that needed the root canal had a veneer, but rest assured, everything went perfectly. Additionally, I was prescribed antibiotics and pain medication and am still healing, but 10x better! Because I have been with my regular dentist for so long, I will continue treatment with them. I began seeing Dr. Alpatty after Dr. Freer retired; he'd been my dentist since childhood. I trusted that Freer would leave his practice in good hands so when I needed a root canal Dr. Alpatty was who I was passed to. I had a root canal and two weeks later pain presented in the tooth beside it. Dr. Alpatty did a second root canal on that tooth. All was well for six weeks when the pain in tooth #2 came back. Exams, pain medication and referring me out to endodontists in the area turned into nearly $2000 out of pocket for me due to visits and CT scans after my insurance was maxed for the year. I kept Dr. Alpatty in the loop as I had specialists investigate my root canal pain but Dr. Alpatty suddenly seemed reluctant to treat me. He was kind and said kind things...he helped with pain meds while I found someone to help which often meant waiting for appointments. But he refused to fix the sore tooth and seemed to be trying to push me off to another dentist instead. Eventually he brought me in and I believe he tricked me with numbing injections. He numbed an area and said if it hurt still then it wasn't my tooth. After the injection it still hurt so he then told me "see, it's not your tooth see someone else." But I'm not dumb...he didn't numb the sore tooth and tried to tell me he did. It was a way to wash his hands of me. I have another dentist, another endodontist as well as an oral surgeon now who have helped me fix the issue with with the root canal Alpatty did. I don't believe he's a bad dentist but I do believe he should leave root canals and specialist procedures to specialists. Once a problem arose he would do nothing beyond pain control which is great but not a solution. I quickly became someone else's problem. read more

Just had to have a wisdom tooth extraction due to an infection. I haven't seen the results obviously because it is still healing but based on customer service alone Dr Alpatty was phenomenal. I get very anxious with medical stuff and was definitely not stoked on having to do this especially on a Sunday. My husband was in excruciating pain for a couple days and of course it happens on a weekend when all the dentist offices are closed! I found this place on google and it said "open" so I called this office and she gave me the doctors direct line and he was able to fit us in a couple hours later on a Sunday!! He had to drop off his kids and make time for us on the only day he had off. He did X rays right away and was able to perform a bone graft on my husband, and pulled his tooth all in the same day!! Our insurance covered half and even out of pocket cost was super affordable for the amount of work he needed. My husband felt no pain and he was very reassuring and communicated the entire procedure to make sure he was comfortable the entire surgery. Not to mention he was quick and you can tell was highly experienced in what he was doing. Would highly recommend this place!! I took my husbands 91 year old uncle to Dr. Freer today on recommendation of a good friend who's husband was an oral surgeon. Dr. Freer summoned me in after his exam and was very thorough in detailing the results of his exam and reviewing the x-rays, as well as his rational for his recommended treatment. He then referred us to an excellent oral surgeon. HIGHLY professional and detailed in his assessment. Would recommend to any one and will make an appointment for myself. I have been coming here for almost 20 years. Dr Freer and his staff are always so nice. All of my dental work is great quality. And whether I've had insurance or in the times when I have not had Insurance I've always been able to afford the dental work. Dr Freer is always honest and never tries to charge you for more work than you need to have done. My favorite dental hygienist is Kevin. He does great cleaning and I'm always happy to see him every 6 months. He not only does a great job in cleaning my teeth, he is very personable, and gives you great feedback and advice on how to improve dental hygiene. Tracy and Rachel and everyone else in the office are always so kind and compassionate. They have been there for me in lots of different situations over the years. Whether I had to change appointments, when I didn't have insurance, when my children had appointments and I needed to change appointments, and after one of my children moved away and came back into town they managed to squeeze him in, even through a divorce. I've been going to Doctor Freer since I was a kid. He's very thorough, super patient, and a very personable guy. He actually gives you suggestions and options as opposed to telling you do to surgery or other invasive, expensive procedures. I've had a few fillings done by him with zero issues. His staff is also excellent and they were able to tell me if they accepted my insurance over the phone. Doctor Freer has an xray room, multiple cleaning and checkup rooms, and a procedure room for things like fillings or crowns. Since my last visit about four years ago (somehow no cavities in that time), Doctor Free updated the office and repainted the walls and installed new carpeting. I'd say the next area of improvement is on the chairs. They were functional and didn't strike me as 'nasty' or 'unhygienic' but t hey struck me as 'old' for some reason, even though they may not be. Definitely not a necessary upgrade at this point but I could see that being the next area of improvement. read more

I don't even know where to begin with this review. Unfortunately when I was about 19 years old and first moved to San Diego I needed some dental work and went to a dentist in Clairemont. He put 4 crowns in my mouth and it was a nightmare to say the least. I had to go back multiple times because they hurt so bad and some had even fallen out at times...they are supposed to be permanent and not bother you. I was so traumatized by the experience that I put off going to the dentist for a couple years and just lived with the pain. Eventually my husband convinced me to go see his childhood dentist that his entire family uses and has used for years, Dr. Freer. I met Dr. Freer and the first thing I noticed was how knowledgeable he is and how much time he spent with me. He explained to me all of my options, what I could do short-term, long-term, what was best financially for me, etc. He even mentioned what he would tell his own daughter if she were in my situation which I appreciated. This was opposite from the last doctor who spent only minutes with me and rarely explained why and what he was doing. Ultimately Dr. Freer was able to fix all 4 of the crowns, he had to take them out, mold new ones and put them back in. It was crazy how much time he spent on every single crown, but it paid off because they fit perfectly and there is now 0 pain in my pain. I almost don't even believe that I can eat food without flossing and being in excruciating pain these days, such a great feeling! He also replaced some dark fillings that the previous doctor did on my upper teeth that when I smiled you could see it from the side. Now when I smile, you just see the white teeth, this was something I was very insecure about and he did such a great job! I am so thankful for Dr. Freer and the work he's done. Now, as for his staff, I have spent a lot of time with them as well. Because I had these crowns done within the last 5 years and needed to get them redone, my insurance did not cover the procedures. Tracy helped me dispute these crowns with Delta Insurance and went back and forth with them for over a year now and she finally was able to get them to send me a check to reimburse me for the first crowns since they were not done properly by the first doctor. She must've spent HOURS on this for me, many letters, reports, phone calls, hold time, me calling in bugging her, plus more. I truly appreciate the entire office and I am so happy I've found a dentist that was able to fix all my problems that I had put off for so long and the fact that the staff (Tracy) was able to take so much of their time with me and my insurance. Been coming here for years but lately feel like the staff is not nice. I have an appointment with a new dentist in mission valley. Looking forward to the friendly staff and updated environment. This place is kind of getting old and needs a major face lift. Freer is a good dentist but I rather go somewhere else where I feel welcomed. The receptionists here and some of the hygienists are just rude. After spending thousands of dollars here, I am taking my business elsewhere. I finally have dental insurance and will not settle by using it here anymore. Staff should work on their costumer service its what keeps their paychecks coming. RUN!!! This place is not a good office. The hygienist MaryAnnn literally CUT MY GUM tissue off the front of my teeth!! This tissue does NOT regenerate! I went to dental hygiene school myself and I had what I thought was the worst cleanings there, but this takes the cake. I had to go see a specialist, and now after 5 months, its still not the same. It is right between my front teeth. Then the dentist told me I was overreacting, he was so rude to me and treated me as if I was in the wrong! The specialist, who is in communication with this idiot agreed w me it was malpractice!! How DARE these people do this to someone. The doctor never even examined my teeth that day, or he would have seen the trauma. It was so painful for 2 weeks! And it still does not feel the same. Spit comes through the hole when I talk and sing. I am so angry that this happened to me. I hope this post saves the next poor soul from this malpractice. I have great gum tissue normally that comes way down over my teeth forming a tight junction. This is so unacceptable and unforgivable! Maybe if this half ass hygienist stopped talking about her ridiculous life for a minute during the cleaning she could pay attention to what she is doing.
