I rented for Burning Man in 2025. Chad is a poor communicator and seems like he has had a bad day any time you actually get him to return a call or email. The RV was not ready at the agreed upon time and we had to wait hours on a hot day to start the trip. Then my RV had no step at the door, a generator that did not work, and a fridge that went out mid way during the trip. After multiple attempts to speak to Chad he finally called back. He was very apologetic and said he wanted me as a customer and would do whatever it took. He asked what I needed to make it right. I thought about it and messaged him back that I wanted a 10% refund on my trip and a promise to have a newer model RV in 2026. Guess what? I never heard from him. No surprise there. It's with great disappointment that I write this review for El Cajon RV rentals. Back in May of 2025 I booked a reservation for July of 2025 for 7 nights. My original reservation was from July 22nd through July 29th. Everything went smoothly and I paid my total in full of $1,272.79 In June I learned I would have to change my schedule so I called Chad and changed my dates to July 9th-July 13th. Which is 3 nights less than originally booked. He assured me everything would be fine and we would have the same trailer I originally booked. I asked him to please send me a revised invoice at that time but I didn't receive one. I confirmed twice before July 9th with Chad over the phone and he assured me again that everything is good to go. I asked again for a revised invoice and when I would see my 3 night credit and his response was "my office will take care of that". Come July 9th everything went great. The trailer was delivered early, we had no issues, and Chad was very helpful and attentive to anything we needed. I asked again about the 3 unused nights and when I would see a credit and his response was the same. "My office will get back to you on that". It is now 3 months later and I never received a revised invoice nor have I received a credit for my 3 unused nights. I have texted, called, emailed and I get little to no response from Chad. The most I've ever gotten was a text back saying "I"ll have my office look into that". I cannot reach anyone else in the office as the only phone number listed anywhere is Chad's cell phone number. There is no other name or phone number listed anywhere I can find. Needless to say I will not be using El Cajon RV Rentals ever again, nor will I be recommending them to any other person I know. read more

I've been renting trailers for many years and have never had an experience like this. It started off fairly smooth with some minor hiccups. However, once I gave my credit card information everything changed and I was concerned as they weren't sending me my booking confirmation. I made multiple attempts via phone call and text until I finally received a call back. During our call, the booking confirmation was emailed over and reflected additional charges. I had previously asked if there would be any hidden/additional charges and was told no. When I asked about this on our call, I was given the runaround. I then asked to speak to the owner and was given the name of John however was told that they aren't allowed to give out his phone number. I also asked they pass along my contact information, but I'm not certain that will happen. Not a good experience at all. read more

On March 17, I got a text from Kim regarding my Campland reservation. Kim then explained that she was on maternity leave and didn't know what happened. I didn't talk to her until the next day. I explained to her what happened and it was plain awful. She then said , "How can we make this right?" I simply said, I normally wouldn't but with a change of heart t was willing to give El Cajon a second chance. She then told me she needed to speak with the owner and she will get back to me. (Never Did). I called a few days later and she was on a field trip with her kids. I'll call you back. Again never did. Even left text message no response. On March 31, I Spoke with Chad. He was rude! The conversation started ok. He asked the same question, what can we do to correct the same reservation? I kindly told him my issues and he didn't like my response. He then demanded that I take my original review down the possibility we can do business. I said I would love to AFTER when I recieved service from your company that is satisfactory. I have no problem changing my review when they earned it. I'm only being fair! He then accused me of lying. Pictures, witnesses don't lie. Our friend were camping next to us and witnessed the whole thing! Like I said I told him I would gladly change my review AFTER I give them another opportunity to make things right. I would love to give a positive review! It's only fair! Chad accused me of being "This girl is bad news!" He not only burned me and my other friends but he will correct their issues and not mine! We all watch out for one another. Bottom Line is: I was willing to give this company an opportunity to make this right and give them possibly a 5 review but know nope. I rented trailers here in the past and never had a company coming out 5 times to fix issues that should have been done at the time of delivery including a dirty trailer that came looked like it came back from burning man. I had a family event earlier this year at Campland. Had agood experience setting up rental contract, although their manager Chad was out of the office for a week. Then came the delivery... Delivery guy was cordial, but had no record of what I ordered/paid for (only what Chad verbally told him to bring). I ended up receiving a beat-up trailer that was 7 feet shorter than the high end one I ordered, I had a broken roll-out shade tarp that they fixed one day before the end of my week-long rental. I also ordered a six-person golf cart for the older people in my group, but only received a 4-person cart. I was ghosted from phone calls by Chad once I brought up the fact that he didn't deliver what I ordered - because his inventory was 4 hours away at King of Hammers. I tried to get a partial refund for both mis-deliveries as the website showed with price differences. Still ghosted to date with no adjustments in pricing or courtesy of contact for explanation. El Cajon RV rentals was awesome . I got exactly what I payed for and service was great. ! Rented a thirty foot travel trailer for a one week stay at Campland on the Bay , San Diego , Ca. The only issue we had with the trailer is the dining room table was too small to make the bed ( normally the table top is used as part of the support for the bed ) The table top that was in the trailer was obviously not the correct one . When I ordered the trailer I ordered more than what I needed so this was just not a big issue . Trailer was in good working condition all appliances worked perfectly. When I first inquired rental information Chad convinced me to upgrade to his brand new "2024" trailer. He said he had just "got it in." I agreed and sent him payment for rental agreement. It took him many texts and emails for receipt to be emailed. When they delivered the trailer (late), it was in terrible conditions. Cob webs in every corner, dirty filthy blinds, warped floor, no shelfs in refrigerator so we could not use it, torn curtains and missing blinds. It obviously WAS NOT the trailer we had paid for. I was not happy. Beware of this rental place, they do not deliver what they promise. Chad is very charismatic in upselling his old RV's. I will not be renting from them again. read more

To begin, Chad, the manager, had to have seen this one star review coming his way. I will NEVER rent from this company or recommend anyone to do so. This was the most unprofessional & misleading transaction. We were referred to Chad after visiting our friends trailer rental at Campland. We inquired to rent and expressed we wanted the same trailer. Chad verbally agreed and took our credit card information and said we will receive an email shortly. Fast forward to 4 days later, still no email. Our camping trip was days away but I figured let's give the man some time since it's Labor Day weekend and he's probably slammed and or vacationing himself. After 8 days of no communication back, we started to worry since our trip was now 4 days away. 3 people from our party started to call/text Chad and we would get a "I think your on the schedule, I'll get back to you." After trying to be patient, I started getting frustrated and expressed that to Chad and let him know if you don't have us booked or can't accommodate the request, PLEASE let me know so I can look elsewhere. It took another person from our party to reach out and he finally says we've been on the schedule the entire time and charged our CC and that our trailer is good to go and will deliver the day before. The day comes, and let me tell you my jaw was on the floor when I entered that disgusting, dirty, smelly trailer. This is not what was promised. My mom called to express frustration and Chad agreed that this isn't what we wanted but there was nothing he can do other than give us a 100$ credit from the almost 900$ we paid. We had to clean the trailer ourselves and try to make it look decent. I felt so dirty sleeping in it. There were stains everywhere, the carpet looks like it has never been vacuumed. Cabinets missing. Windows broken. Screen doors broken. They made our first campland experience a nightmare. I can't wait to go back and not use them to have a positive trailer experience with a professional company. I tried to give him some grace that we didn't book months in advance like typical, we booked a short notice of a week in advance but he should have been honest and said no, we don't have anything to rent out. This was the eighth or ninth time we rented a motorhome to go out to the desert, the first time we rented through El Cajon RV Rentals. In the past, we rented from places like El Monte RV and reserve America, paying less than we paid for your motorhome. However, El Cajon RV Rentals had trailer brakes, so we decided to leave what we knew was dependable to give them a shot. HUGE MISTAKE!!!! With those eight or nine rentals, we literally never had a single issue. With El Cajon RV Rentals we had not one, not two, not three, but countless issues with the motorhome we rented. These were major problems, starting with a bad water pump leaving us with no water to having the battery repaired/replaced by two different people. Because the batter was battery was never successfully replaced, we only had intermittent electricity. And because there was only an external generator, we had no working air-conditioning, microwave, refrigerator or freezer. We appreciated the owner's timely phone responses to these issues, yet because we were always waiting for a phone call or text back from him, waiting another hour to see if something he told us to try would change a circumstance, or waiting for someone to show up to make a repair, renting from El Cajon RV Rentals resulted in:    1    Lost opportunities    2    I was physically miserable    3    We had to mooch off other people    4    We incurred debt above what we agreed to pay you.    5    Shorter vacation 1: LOST OPPORTUNITIES We go to the desert so Bill and our 18-year old son can ride their desert toys. Because Bill was sitting by the phone troubleshooting, he didn't get to ride the 1st 2 days. And because I was physically miserable (which I will elaborate on below), we had to leave early, so he also didn't get to ride on Monday. Bill was only able to ride 2 out of the 5 days he had planned to. 2: I WAS MISERABLE I am physically disabled, which is why we rent a motorhome when I accompany my husband and son to the desert. I have chronic neck pain, so I can't sleep without ice or heat. I knew it would be hot during the day and chilly at night, planning to use my heating pad at night and gel ice packs during the day. Because we very rarely had electricity nor a working refrigerator, I my ice packs were melted, and I had no electricity for my heating pad. Also, the interior of the motorhome reached over 90° during the days. I spend all of my time inside the motorhome since I'm not physically able to accompany my husband and son out on their rides. Not having any ice or air-conditioning exacerbated my chronic pain beyond description. 3: WE HAD TO BE LEECHES/MOOCHES Not all of our perishables went bad, but to be cautious, we discarded 2 pounds of ground beef, 1 pork loin, cottage cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, yogurts, coffee creamer, and milk. We appreciated you offering to reimburse us to buy new food, but Bill had already lost so much time that he did not want to spend an hour traveling to the nearest Walmart to buy a cooler. Fortunately, our friends loaned us a cooler and fed us, but we aren't mooches, so I will be purchasing gift cards to compensate them. 4: EXTRA DEBT Because the RV battery only worked intermittently and it didn't have an internal generator, we had to fill the external generator with the gallons of gas we brought to fuel the boys' desert toys. To cool the food that didn't smell, we wasted even more time by leaving the campsite to drive into Seeley where we spent more money on ice. Because we honored your contract, we also spent $159.16 to fill the motorhomes tank with gas before returning it. 5: SHORTER TRIP Because I was so miserable without access to ice packs or heating pads and because we didn't want to mooch another three meals from our friends, we had to end the trip early, returning the motorhome a full 24-hours early. We absolutely did not get the motorhome we ordered, nor did we receive what was in the contract. Basically, it appeared to be a salvaged vehicle and served as a fancy tent. It felt like we were used as guinea pigs, trying out this motorhome, sacrificing our family vacation to test out their rental. We did appreciate the $250 El Cajon RV Rentals reimbursed us via Venmo for food, but $250 doesn't even cover one night's rental, nor does it come close to compensating us for all of the costs and issues I listed in this email. read more

Only given 1 star because 0 is not an option! We rented an RV for a trip from San Diego to Burning Man, and the entire experience was an absolute nightmare. We were told we'd get the RV between 2-5 PM, but after multiple delays, we didn't receive the vehicle until 9 PM. Chad claimed the RV was being "inspected" -- but clearly, nothing was checked properly. Within 10 minutes of driving, we discovered the headlights and turn signals didn't work! It's a 12-hour drive in a massive RV, and this was beyond dangerous. When I called chad, he sent someone out to fix the issues, but this caused us to delay our departure until 1 AM. On top of that, they demanded last-minute payment through Zelle, which was never mentioned beforehand. Since we paid the deposit by credit card, we didn't expect to be forced into using Zelle -- a payment method where we can't dispute the transaction. It's obvious they knew exactly what they were doing by making us pay this way, and we will be seeing them in court for this shady practice. To make things worse, as we continued the trip, the RV's horn didn't work, the storage compartments underneath flew open while we were driving on the highway, and the turn signals stopped working again. This was a hazardous situation, but we were already hours into the trip with no other options. Chad was unresponsive when we tried to reach out about these issues. He only mentioned refunding the deposit (which we were entitled to anyway), but they promised a larger refund due to all the problems. Now, we're being strung along, and it's clear they have no intention of compensating us for this dangerous and unacceptable rental. Avoid this company at all costs -- renting from them is a serious risk, and they're incredibly unprofessional. Rent elsewhere if you value your safety and want a company that stands by their word. read more

Chad helped me again, and was prompt to return my calls, as in, minutes later, was professional and courteous. Our delivery tech was also very friendly, informative and knowledgeable. I called late one afternoon in a panic because I forgot how to get the oven started. Chad picked up on the first ring and talked me through it. Done! Then, because of that information I was able to help another friend with the same oven! I'm so impressed by the level of customer service, Chad even texted me to see if everything was going well, the fair pricing and delivery service. I made a reservation on December 5th and he got me to upgrade to the latest trailer that he has, costing me extra money. He convinced me to make the payment in full and I did. He mentioned that he's the preferred RV company for Campland and that he will deliver my trailer a day before. He mentioned that a confirmation will be emailed to me immediately but never received any details. I called few days later to confirm my reservation and never received a call back. I texted Chad but no response either. I am now 10 days before my reservation at Campland and still no response. I called each day for the past 5-6 days and every time, he said to provide my information and he will check with the office. Never received a confirmation or a call back. I took the decision to cancel the reservation based on the reviews posted here. I did not want to take a chance and not have a trailer for my trip. I called to cancel my reservation and now he started to call me back. He mentioned that my trailer is already in a storage near the Campland and that the confirmation was emailed to me but never received anything. I decided to not move forward and I found a different and more professional company that will provide the trailer. I originally booked through RVShare (think, Air BNB for RVs) and the RV owners cancelled on me the night before our trip (this happened in the past through Outdoorsy as well.) I rented and trailer from El Cajon trailers. Chad is always very good at returning calls and responding to texts or emails. I rented a trailer for Campland in July 2023. I also made a reservation for a golf cart which Chad had informed me that his pricing was 1/2 of what Campland charges, which i thought was great. I reserved the golf cart 4 months prior to my trip (even called and put a payment toward the cart). The week before the trip i called Chad and wanted to confirm the trailer and golf cart, he said he was very busy and would get back to me. Didnt hear from him so called him a few days later and again said he would get back to me, up until this time he was very good at returning calls. One day before the trip I called and insisted we confirm all rentals. Chad informed me that the golf cart was not reserved and they only had 3 available, one was in repair the other 2 rented?? I was expecting some customer service on his end to help me take care of this, but he shot me a text for 4 local places i could call and try to get one! I did this but ended spending $365.00 more than expected. I felt like he dropped the ball and did not help me recover it, just put it back on me and left it as that. Also they need to update or change their accounts payable system, too many attempts to try to figure out what is owed and what is pending, should be slam dunk simple!! The trailer worked out great, but would be nice if someone would have went over the minor details on how to work things, had to call him a few times and he was very quick to respond but this also could have been avoided.
