I want to start by saying that our server Sydney P was excellent. She was friendly, checked on us often and had our experience been based on that- it would have been 5 stars! Unfortunately, that is not usually the case with service at El Camino. My husband and I had not gone back in a couple of years after they opened because of consistently bad and rude service. Their food was fine but even the best food isn't good paired with a bad overall experience. We decided to give them another try a few months ago and even though the service was a little better- it wasn't worth keeping them on our weekly rotation. My husband, daughter and I had gone there for dinner on Tuesday and as I said had a wonderful server. Both my daughter and I have had their steak tacos (filet and skirt), even though the flavor was fine, they leave the pieces SO LARGE that you chew forever on a bite of taco. This is not to mention that the tortilla does not hold up well to bites into these large clunky pieces. Because of this, I started ordering the Barbacoa tacos since that is shredded beef. However, my daughter doesn't like Barbacoa so she requested the cooks cut the meat smaller. The food came out and the pieces of steak were as big as ever. When I say that this could be a choking hazard for the best of eaters (let's forget about seniors, children, or people that may have dental issues) I mean these pieces are nearly the size of dice. We asked for a steak knife so that my daughter could finish prepping her own food (though she is not an employee of El Camino, apparently those who get paid to cook there, don't have to accommodate special requests of using their chef knives to cut steak before putting in tacos. As I watched her spend about 10 minutes deconstructing 2 of her 3 tacos and cutting up the meat and putting them back together (as it was getting cold), I asked for a manager. Nick came over to our table with a strange attitude. I said "Are you the manager?", as he did not introduce himself...at all!, he said "yes". I started by explaining that we asked for the meat to be cut smaller. He then starts to get defensive and argumentative saying how "everyone loves that dish", "everyone orders that dish", "There are NEVER any complaints about that dish". I had to interrupt him to explain that we were NOT complaining about the dish but the prep of the meat. He then says "Maybe that dish isn't for you". I said "So NONE of the steak taco dishes are for us because not only our request for safe size pieces was not accomodated but you are telling me that we take it or leave it???" He continued to talk over me and arguing until my daughter (who is very quiet and laid back) got mad and started explaining to him that he shouldn't be talking to his customers that way. Her and her husband order to go often and she explained that at home, she deconstructs her tacos, takes kitchen shears to cut the meat and then has to put them in the microwave to warm them up. Just because people don't complain doesn't mean they aren't unhappy about it. Instead of Nick listening and understanding what we were trying to do, he continued to talk over my daughter, and then snaps at her with "I'LL JUST TAKE IT OFF!". That set my daughter off. None of us needed nor wanted a free meal. We didn't ask for it, nor want it. We told him that. He finally asked what we wanted. I said that all I wanted was to share a suggestion of not only talking to his kitchen staff about accommodating COMPLETELY REASONABLE REQUESTS but to share with the other management our suggestion. That's it. We told him several times that we weren't complaining about the flavor, just the prep and that everything else was fine including the excellent service and that he, NICK, and NICK ALONE has ruined it for us. By the way- the ONLY way I knew his name is that I had to ASK HIM for it... We will NOT be back nor will my daughter and her husband order take out anymore. The food is fine but definitely not worth the complete disregard and disrespect of their customers! There are SO MANY better places that appreciate our business! I love stopping at El Camino for lunch when I'm in Kenosha. I usually get their taco lunch special, a salad, or the hamburger quesadilla. The tacos are delicious; I order them with corn tortillas and the sauce on the side. The green creamy sauce is really spicy, keep that in mind before you dump it on! Excellent service by our waitress!!! She was very knowledgeable about the menu and asked the kitchen to verify if certain foods were gluten free. My sandwich was very good and my wife enjoyed her meal which I'm sorry I didn't get photos of. The dining area was clean and spacious. Once I finally sat down and ordered from a very enticing menu, I was starting to see what all the hubub was about. That night they were making fresh margaritas and of course I had to order one, and it was superb! Then I was presented with my meal and it did not disappoint. Came in here for dinner with family on a Wednesday night, and everyone was able to find something they enjoyed. The restaurant is large with a variety of seating options, and was decorated festively for the Christmas season. Our waitress Bianca was very friendly, accommodating, and very patient with our younger family members ;) I had the Jalapeño Margarita and the Fresh and Light Chicken Bowl and loved both. So much spicy flavor to enjoy! The portion size for the bowl was just right, especially after eating the delicious chips and dip for the table. El Camino is a great place to take the family. The fam went early Christmas shopping and planned to find some where to eat dinner. We looked at their menu while standing in a mile long checkout line at the Nike Outlet and saw they had allergy friendly options so we wanted to give it a try. We arrived around 4:30 PM and it was pretty busy! We were greeted and seated immediately. The table and booth chairs were freshly wiped down. The server came to the table and asked if we wanted to start off w/ some water. She came back with water and chips and salsa (So good, especially the salsa). We asked about the Chips and ingredients / cross contamination. She came back with the manager and asked for the allergens and answered all our questions. She also asked the server to tell her when our food was ready so she can verify. We were in Wisconsin so we had to get Cheese Curds for the appetizer! The crew all ordered tacos: Veggie, Korean, and Barbacoa. I ordered Mushroom Melt. All the tacos come with beans and rice. The Barbacoa was modified due to allergies and came with fruits for the side. I was tld the veggie tacos tasted great and was stuffed. The beef in the Korean tacos perfectly cooked the and sauce was really good and the crunch of the cabbage gave it a nice texture. My mushroom melt was grilled to a nice crisp, and had a nice melt to the melt. The fries that came with the melt were just as crisp as the sandwich. We landed on the shared dessert: The Fried Ice Cream. The bowl the ice cream came with was really good, a sugary cinnamon mix. The cornflakes on the ice cream was chewy. Overall the food was great! The service was even better (especially w/ the care they had for allergies). We would dine here again for sure! read more

I am not one to write a review yet I was so disappointed at the service and the food that I had to warn others that were looking to try a new place to dine. The service began with no introduction from the waitress and seemed like we were rushed to order. I am sure they are short staffed yet the waitress was spending longer periods of time with other tables and rushed us. When the food came out it looked... not great. One of my friends had the enchiladas and it was just tortilla and unflavored red sauce. It was extremely dry and chewy. It had no flavoring, which seems to be common in their food. I had the Cali Style Burrito and it was dry, the pork had zero flavoring and it was so disappointing I couldn't even eat half of it. Another friend had the tacos and she described as chewy, dry pork, no flavoring, and no sauce. Throughout us eating we were not checked in on once. Also we were not offered refills on our drinks. When my two friends went to pay, one of them noticed she had an extra drink on her tab. That was fixed. My two friends payed with cash and they were not offered or given back change. I would not recommend eating here if you like nice customer service or flavor in your food. read more

Really enjoyed this place they serve complimentary chips and salsa. the salsa isn't spicy at all i couldn't get enough of it. the steak fajitas were delicious and the fajita bowl was also very tasty. We had lunch here on the return trip from Milwaukee, and everyone loved their lunch! Some folks had salad with salmon and a couple had the mushroom tacos and chicken tinga tacos. I had a lunch special where I could get 2 choices including a small burrito, tamale, or an enchilada. Being a burrito fan I got 2 chicken tinga burritos with rice and beans. All for under $12!! The chicken was very high quality - no funny bits that can turn a delicious lunch experience into an exercise in unease!! Super tasty and the rice and beans were very good! The burrito lunch easily compares to my favorite hole-in-the-wall Mexican places I love in or near Chicago. In town visiting in laws and stopped by. Was pleasantly surprised given the menu had various cuisines. I'm usually skeptical since that many items question quality. Hubby got steak tacos seasoned and cooked well. It's always a wild card with steak taco meat if you're going to wind up getting fatty or chewy pieces but each one was quality! I ordered the southwest salad with only romaine sans ice berg. It was fine served it's purpose. Now the cheese curds we're exactly what I had been missing from the Midwest after moving to TX. anywhere outside of MN and WI cheese curds are chopped up mozzarella sticks. These were stretchy and delicious. We got both ranch and marinara. There was not a crumb left over. Drinks- I got I think the boss which had Don Julio and made it spicy and skinny. Instead of the nape so agave they muddled jalepeno. It hit the spot and I ordered 2! Service was awesome. I had one of the most disappointing service experiences at this restaurant. From the start, our server was inattentive and difficult to find when we needed basic things like drink refills, condiments, or assistance. After our food was dropped off, there was no follow-up to check on the table. When we asked another staff member for simple items like hot sauce and napkins, the response from our server felt dismissive -- including a comment about giving habanero sauce to "calm down" a child, which was completely unnecessary and unprofessional. The situation escalated when a manager approached our table accusing me of making inappropriate comments toward a server. I was not given the chance to fully explain before being confronted in an abrupt and accusatory manner. Multiple people at my table clearly stated the allegation did not come from me, yet the conversation continued without fairness or neutrality. The approach felt unprofessional and based on assumptions rather than facts. Very much felt racially motivated. Instead of addressing concerns respectfully, the interaction created tension and frustration. As paying guests, we deserved better communication and basic professionalism from both service staff and management. I'm sharing this so others know about the experience we had -- and so management understands that accountability and guest respect matter. read more

I love this place. As much as I want to venture and try more of their expansive menu, I keep returning for the Pollo Gordo and the Birria Ramel Bowl. The Pollo Gordo has a thick, juicy, and tender chicken breast and stuffed with a flavorful filling of chorizo and melted cheese. The cream sauce is to die for. The Birria Ramen Bowl - I've never been able to finish the entire thing, it's a lot! The soup has a rich beefy broth, the right amount of tender shredded barbacoa, and tons of delightfully chewy noodles. You can't go wrong with these two items. read more

Been here a couple of times and the food is always good. I usually get the drunken chimichangas with chicken. They are always cooked to perfection, nice and crispy. When I come here I always think to order something different but it always ends up getting the drunken chimichangas. My favorite are their chips. They serve it with 3 different salsa. Food and drinks were ok. Appetizer we had the nachos with skirt steak. Then for lunch had the naked burrito it was more like shredded chicken with lots of sour cream a little lettuce. No hot sauce was available just the green chalula. The nachos were better than the burrito. Our margaritas were ok at best. Not a lot of tequila for 22oz drink. lots of syrup and flavoring. I was an El Camino regular for awhile. I brought family and friends whenever I could...until one day I had some bad steak tacos. We decided to give it another try and I'm so glad we did. Our server (I think her name was Gabby?) was AMAZING. I try to eat GF/DF and she graciously checked and adjusted numerous items for me. She was such a blessing to have as our server. (I know dietary restrictions stink for everyone involved.) The tacos pictured were pork (maybe carnitas?) with pineapple salsa. They were amazing!! Highly recommend. Service alone was 5 star! The tacos are also 5 star. The guac...I wanted it to be good, but it just lacked. Even after adding a bunch of salt, it tasted like straight mashed avocado. We called and they said they can remake it, so we asked if it can be delivered instead of having to drive super far back there and they said NO. Decided to stop here on our way through Wisconsin! And it did not disappoint! We started off with the tortilla soup. It had amazing flavor along with a great crunch of chips inside the soup. Perfectly seasoned, not spicy at all. After our soup, our server came out super fast with our food. Maybe waited 10 mins tops after we ordered. I ordered the Carne Asada Burrito, Poblano style with the sauce on the side rather on top. One of the best tasting Poblano sauce around. First time here, always see it packed so we figured we would give it a shot. Unfortunately not the greatest experience, server asked if it was out first time in and we said yes, she explained some things to us then left for about 10 minutes and got our drinks, which were only sodas. We ordered our food and when it came it was not all that hot, I had the "chimichangas" with queso which ended up being to small rolled burritos with some sort of American cheese like that had already skinned over, I was hungry so I ate it. My wife had the steak burrito which cost 21 dollars, it had very little steak and was not the size a burrito that expensive should be. Our waitress never came back after the food was brought to us until it was time for the bill. I did notice another waitress who seemed to be much better at a table close to us so they can't be all like ours. Between the service, the overly priced sub par "mexican" food we will not be returning. read more

I was meeting a friend from Illinois for lunch and this happened to be near where his appointment was later that afternoon and only about 10 minutes from my office, so location-wise it was great. And it only got better from there! We were seated quickly in a nice, step up booth and served promptly. I went with a quesadilla and some elote and both were excellent! See picture. My friend also enjoyed his chicken tortilla soup, and the chips and salsa they brought really hit the spot. We went here on Sunday for their new breakfast menu. Very high prices. Banana bread French toast was $16.50. $18.50 for a meat lovers skillet. It came with a side of hash browns/fruit and toast. 1) why hash browns when there's already potato in the skillet and 2) it was only one piece of toast cut in half. I've never been to a restaurant where a side of toast isn't 2 pieces/4 halves. Just odd! Food was just average. Only 2 meals with coffee/soda and our bill was $50! There was a roach in my rice. when I spoke with the manager and told her what was in my food she's stated that she was going to refund me the next day I called and I asked to speak with a general manager, which name was Wendy, never spoke to her spoke with Rebecca,again which was the supervisor. She stated that she was so very sorry and that they would refund me my money and a little bit more for the inconvenience when I did stop and two El Camino to get my refund and try to speak with the GM, there was a exterminator there Rebecca stated that there is terminator here now and has been there for several hours since 10 o'clock in the morning. Remind you I get off work at 3:30 so it was around 4 o'clock when I went over there here are the pictures approve that the roaches in my food as well as speaking to someone else that was the owner supposedly who stated that they were not gonna compensate me in any way because the roach could've came from my home. My home is very clean. I' no one deserves this service my advice to anyone who's eats an El Camino do not you'll be surprised what you were retaining your food. read more

We really enjoyed El Camino Kitchen. I went shopping with my sister and decided to grab a bite to eat last minute. We just happened to see El Camino and stopped in. The exterior is cute. Once inside, the charm continues. There is a lot of wood and unique decor. I love the beer wall. Service was fantastic. The young girl assisting us was very sweet. She was pretty busy and kept up easily. A few other people helped as well. They all seemed like a great team. The cocktails were very tasty. I had a Paloma and my sister had a Mojito. The menu is huge and crazy diverse. There were Mexican, Asian and Italian options. We enjoyed everything we ordered. I thought the portions were hearty and the did not hold back on the ingredients. I thought the chips were extra crunchy and the salsa hot. The guacamole was really good. There were big chunks of avocado but not a ton of tomatoes. I would have like a bit more tomatoes. Overall, this place is perfect for casual food in a shopping center. The food didn't really have a WOW factor but was tasty just the same. The place was cute and the staff were super helpful.
