On this visit, we tried the beef chimichanga. It was one of the best chimi's I have ever had. That will definitely be the staple dish from now on. I also tried their beef quesadilla. We eat here all the time- the staff is very friendly and work hard to get the food to you quickly! The grilled chicken fajita quesadilla is my fave. Its hard not to keep eating the chips n salsa after I am done eating my meal...uuuugh. I always leave full! Also they have $1.99 margs on Wednesdays nights and they are pretty potent- I recommend ordering the "gold" margarita instead of the regular lime. I literally have eatin here for years and it's been great. Trust me I am an understanding person as well. My husband called and placed a to go order for us for grilled chicken tacos plain (nothing but the tortilla and grilled chicken)...weird I know but we are picky. He goes to pick it up he gets home and the tacos have everything on them....I've had a horrible day so at this point I'm pissed but okay things happen. I call them and tell them what happened and they said they will make new ones. I get there and pick up my new ones I go to my car and I check them before I leave just in case ya know....THEY ARE WRONG AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY MADE SHREDDED CHICKEN TACOS AND THEY STILL HAD LETTUCE ON THEM. At this point I am on the verge of screaming so I walked back in and they huff and puff again at me because they got the order wrong. So then I have to stand around and wait again for new tacos to be made. I opened the tacos to check them when they finally bring out my new order and this time the tacos are correct but they barely have any chicken in them maybe like five or six pieces of tiny cut up slivers of chicken. The lady gave me a $10 gift card which is great for the thought but that's not going to do anything for me. I will most likely never eat here again just for the way I was treated when I walked back in the second time when they are the ones that messed up and the fact that when I got my new order there was barely any food there any chicken to make a taco with. El Campesino is a great place to eat! It is a must do if you are in the Wooster area. It is always busy with a great atmosphere, big/great food, and great service. Sadly but true...the food here is mediocre at best but a fun place to meet friends. The menu is the same as most midwestern Mexican restaurants with prefab refried beans and dry Mexican rice. Come for the margaritas, not the food. El Camps is great for birthdays, as they can accommodate fairly large parties, and they do the whole shove ice cream in the birthday boy/girl's face ordeal. Wow! I was blown away with the high quality and taste. It is the best Mexican restaurant in Ohio. I ordered El Campesino Fajitas which was a combination of shrimp, chicken, and beef. Everything was well-cooked and seasoned to perfection. I loved the combination of everything mixed in. No single meat dominated my palate. My boyfriend ordered the Chori Pollo (sp?). Apparently, it was too delicious to share! Both dishes had generous servings of guacamole, beans, and other sorts of vegetables. Oh, and we ordered the bean dip and cheese dip for appetizers. Just one bit of advice, the cheese and the bean are kind of the same thing so you're just better off ordering the bean dip. The bean dip is mixed in with a creamy cheese and was super tasty. I cannot believe I looked at the other reviews and decided to pass on this place. They are so very wrong. If not for a coworker who insisted that El Campesino was the best Mexican restaurant in the state of Ohio, I don't think I would have tried it. I'm so glad that I did! I went here for my birthday celebration and to put it quite frankly, this was the worst decision ever. I would put negative stars if I could. I did not even feel welcomed into this established upon entering. The hostess Victoria, who doubled as the manager, was very rude and unwelcoming. She huffed and puffed and rolled her eyes as she grabbed our menus, put them on the table without saying one word to us. McDonald's has better customer service. I then proceeded to observe Victoria sit another (white) party and treat them as if they were welcomed. Now if her treatment of my party was due to racism, I'm not sure, but it sure seemed like it. Now to the food: greasy and salty sums that up. I will be returning only to talk to the owner about Victoria and her treatment of paying customers. read more

The best Mexican in Wooster. The lunch specials are a bit pricey but you get a lot of food. Standard Mexican items nothing really special. The chips and salsa are good. Number 26 is good as well. Went to this restuarant with my neices and nephews. The service was horrible. They never attended to our needs until like 25 minutes after we arrived. I kept having to ask for thing that should of been on the table and I had to chase them down to get their attention and to pay my bill. Absolutely best Mexican restaurant in Wooster. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. Wait staff is super friendly, and food is always hot and flavorful. I like the quesadilla verde or the chicken with cheesy rice. If you're in the area, this is worth a stop. The food is wonderful and there are a few good waiters and we have been there many many times. But tonight was unacceptable we were seated in the bar area "this is a family restaurant" and there were 3 very intoxicated patrons at the bar. Now I can handle drunk but these 3 were very loud taking about very sexual things I felt like I was in a adult shop not a family restaurant. We brought it to the attention of 2 staff members one being the owners wife and all they said were they had to much to drink and there was "nothing they could do about it". On top of it all they had let those patrons sit there since 3:00 drinking with no cut off then LET THEM LEAVE AND DRIVE HOME. They must be forgetting that these people could hardly stand and they are allowing them to leave on a very Rainey night they would think twice if their son or daughters or loved ones were hit by them because of their lack of morality to cut them off and send them home. Now I understand people can't babysit others but when safety and well being of others is in jeopardy I expect something to be done. On top of all of that since 3 they had ran off other tables which never paid for their meal due to the three patrons you would think that would be enough if a hint "info came from our server". We will not be returning there's plenty of other more responsible restaurants in our area. read more

I have been going to this restaurant for the last year or so with no complaints. Food is always hot and service has always been fast. They have a belly rewards program which I signed up for and use diligently. My son and I went there today for an early dinner. I had received a belly notice that I had a $7.00 discount available at El Campesino. After arriving, I checked in and the notification said to show it to the cashier. I turned the iPad around so the cashier could see it. He acknowledged seeing it and said the discount would come off when I checked out. He seated us and then disappeared. At the end of our meal, I took the check to the register where a different cashier was standing. I told him about the discount and he all but accused me of lying. I showed him the email I received on my phone. Again, all of a sudden, he couldn't understand English and said he didn't know about the belly rewards or how it worked. Needless to say, no discount. I'll never go back. I was treated in a disrespectful manner. I WAS a regular customer. NEVER again, you don't do customers that way. Argue about a discount when I had it to show him on my phone. Lost two customers, me and my adult son. What a rip off! read more
