I haven't been here in years. The food looked good so I decided to get a little something. It's really loud so it kind of hard to communicate with the server. Everything looked yummy so I ordered some of my favorites. 1/2 Rotisserie Chicken it was moist with a subtle flavor White rice and Beans - good 1/2 pernil - for me it lacked flavor but my mom enjoyed it. You must know the menus are near the register so make sure you check the price of what you want. This place is my go to when I am specifically craving a Dominican breakfast. It's so damn good. So much food for $8 bucks! You get 2 eggs (I like them medium/jammy), mangu (mashed green plantain), fried cheese, salami, and is topped with pickled onions. It's traditional! This can easily feed 2 people. I divide this into 2 hefty meals since the mangu is so filling. It's a no frills place. The staff are friendly and they have a vast menu. Definitely the worst Dominican spot I've had ever. My first mistake was ordering delivery. I asked the lady for a medium bowl of white rice, beans and stewed beef. What I got was a full plate of tasteless orange rice (literally tasted like paper. Where is the orange coming from if not seasoning?); wet, soggy beans; and a full plate of bones and inedible fat and cartilage. I was charged $16 for a full meal of bullsh!t. Will never return. Castillo Castillo! Food tastes so nice, have to say it twice! We ordered here for a late lunch and everything was well seasoned, hot and perfectly flavored. It really tastes homemade and the servings are very filling. All of the food in the window buffet is good. The chicharonnes, pernil and the spaghetti is also good a standout. The pasteles are chicken or pork and are amazing. They are not skimpy with the meat in the pasteles. The pepper steak is tender and pairs well with white rice and beans. Wandering into this restaurant after a very late night for a rather early breakfast, made made me realize that I wasn't going to eat breakfast at all, I was going to eat empanadas. A throwback to my college years, when my best friend and roommate used to make her Puerto Rican grandma's recipe for the household. I had a carne and a queso. I thought about them both all day. Discovered this place while walking in the neighborhood searching for lunch. This place totally fit the bill. Did not realize how spacious it was inside. They really stuck to that castle team decoration even down to the bathroom. Our waitress was nice and attentive. I ordered stewed goat while the hubby got chicken along with plantains and rice and beans. Dishes were both satisfying. Lunch came in large portions so much so that we packed it and ate the next day. So their rotisserie chicken, rice and beans, plantains and stewed meats are very welcomed. Ordered fried fish, normally would be tilapia and it's typically boneless (I've never ordered fried fish from a Spanish restaurant and it have bone in) waitress didn't mention it would be bone in so that was definitely unexpected. We also ordered a side of spaghetti, tostones and fried maduros. I asked for the garlic sauce to go with the tostones and I'm not sure what they gave us but it for sure was not garlic sauce. There's also a difference btwn Hispanic spaghetti and regular and it did not taste like the Hispanic version. It's just so disappointing esp from one Hispanic to another, this food wasn't authentic at all, not even close. The other dishes might be good but based on this experience I wouldn't know as I do not have any intentions of returning. read more

I came for mangu with cheese and eggs but they had run out, which hopefully is a good indicator that their mangu might be the thing to eat here. I had tostones with eggs and cheese, the portion size for the tostones was very generous but the eggs and the cheese were not as plentiful. I had a batida de mamey which was very delicious and tres leches which was also just ok. While the waitstaff was very friendly the meal time was prolonged by the amount of time we waited between courses for our waitress to check in with us and the wait for the check was also quite lengthy. This is a great neighborhood spot for delicious rotisserie chicken, rice & beans, plantain, etc. I know most people get take-out but the restaurant does have a decent seating area in the rear, with table service. It's definitely a casual place but the decor is attractive and the bathrooms are clean. The "castillo" theme is pervasive, with armored knights, swords, coats of arms and rough tile evocative of a castle wall. The rotisserie chicken is tasty and moist, the tostones got two thumbs up from the family and my pork mofongo was really delicious.
