Urban Ore Place is a large salvage yard and reuse center that features house items: furniture,…read morehardware, tools, and building materials section outside that's been around 40+ years! I used to visit to find that hidden gem or get inspired to transform a piece of unwanted item into a functional item like a planter or garden art. This place is great for a DIYer or handy man as items have so much potential but can be a bit overwhelming if you're looking for something specific. My recent visit was to find a replacement window for a mini table-top greenhouse I put together about 15 years ago. Unfortunately, after a recent windstorm, 1 window broke and needed to be replaced. The original windows I bought were from a salvage/building resource spot in SF. At the time, buying 6 windows cost me $70 at most. Now (15 years later) for the same quality it will cost you $35-$60/window at Urban Ore. Ouch! I guess these windows may be used for a remodel of an older home. They do have another section for cheaper windows but sadly they look like the one I'm trying to replace...some wood rot, flimsy, peeling and weathered as they're not protected from the elements. Staff outside are friendly and helpful. Worth a stop to check out but some pricing on items a bit higher. Parking inside the gate and along the street.

I decided to look it up so my girlfriend, her sister, and I can go and check it outwhen. Lord behold it's in Berkeley! Ok, not a big deal, but we all kept thinking that they should fix the location across social media videos. We get there and parking isn't easy to find. You have to park in or around the other warehouses in the area or a couple of blocks away. After we found parking we made our way over and oh it was a huge disappointment to behold. I think we only stayed for a few minutes before we called it a bust and a waste of time. Do not, I repeat, do not believe the videos that these social media influencers are feeding your algorithm. There was so much trash, broken products, and some of the furniture that could be salvaged had ridiculous price tags on them. Some sets were incomplete, coffee mugs were cracked, tools rusted, and when asked about certain electronics working conditions they either didn't know or refused to check. Needless to say we were unimpressed and never coming back.

They're a hardware store too -They have multiple pickup spots. TL:DR VERSION: I went there to find a shelf and find some 2x4s. They turned out to have way more than just that. They're a full-on hardware store. I ended up also getting wood screws, plastic sheeting, and painters tape too. Staff was very helpful and friendly. One of them helped me find wood for shelf (in the size, color, and finish that worked for my project) and order 2x4s They have multiple pickup locations for different orders, all within a block of each other. I got my 2x4s behind the store, and the guys happily cut them to the lengths I needed. They directed me to their other location acrid the street. I went down Folger a little too far and ended up in their other outdoor lot. The gent I talked to in one of the offices was very friendly and helpful. He stopped the work he was doing and walked out in the rain to show me where their corner warehouse is. The guys at the corner warehouse were also friendly. They got my order cut to size and loaded it into my trunk. One of them helped me with a refund on items I didn't need. This is the best experience I've ever had at a hardware store. Their service is exceptional, and they had everything I needed.

Buyer Beware! Robert Singer, CEO/CFO of Timberline…read moreManufacturing (Timberline Geodesics), and main point of contact (apparent proprietor) for Timberline's subsidiary/affiliate, Skylight and Sun (att 3, 4, 5, & 6) has defrauded me of 5 skylights, for which I paid $8022.40 in 2019, as part of a Cypress dome kit, for which I paid $60,654 (att 7, 8 & 9). He has refused to meet his ethical obligation to deliver, despite repeated attempts to contact him by phone and email over a period of two years (att 1 & 5), demonstrating clearly, in common parlance, that he is a determined thief and a determined liar (see #2 below). For all attachments ("att"), see: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/141MaCML9AkMYHKdjLpJmkJVgpLA7KKKq Considerations: 1) I am a veteran who has served this country honorably. I simply want to put a complete roof over the heads of my three children and live quietly. What kind of man defrauds a veteran of such a basic necessity, taking his money and incorrigibly refusing to deliver what has already been paid for? 2) Per attachments 5 & 12, Mr. Singer compounded his determination to defraud me with deliberate and calculated deceit, claiming, since my request for delivery in January 2023, that he no longer manufactured windows. 3) The skylights and framing are integrated items in the invoice, and only repel weather when combined (duh), yet Mr. Singer and his lawyer want to now back out on completing the delivery, offering me only a partial refund, intending to leave me to bear the burden of $3,365 for the framing, which is useless without the skylights. Again, what kind of man deals with his customers this unscrupulously? 4) Meanwhile, I also bear the burden of maintaining temporary covering: attempting to secure it to slick metal flashing is like herding cats. Mr. Singer's 'answer' is that "the framing is integral to the building," and "should not have been damaged by weather if cared for properly." This begs the question: how are 5 gaping holes "integral to the building?" 5) Mr. Singer's billing ethics are questionable. For 215 board feet of skylight framing and ~86 ft of 10 in 24ga flashing, he charges a whopping $3,365 (att 7). Even with a generous 3 man hours of labor, this is an incredible amount, compared to a reasonable calculation (att 10). This gives a reasonable person the impression that Mr. Singer has padded one portion of his bill (framing) to the decrement of the other (skylights). Given that quotations for the custom skylights (triangles) far exceed the amount he originally billed, any attempt to claim a refund for the skylights alone puts the customer at a significant financial disadvantage, while padding Mr. Singer's wallet. 6) Despite his clear breach of ethics, Mr. Singer is willing to compound fraud with veiled threats of litigation and attempts to silence me with money insufficient to procure skylights, engaging his finances to consult a lawyer to help him avoid his ethical obligations. This begs the question: if he has money to consult a lawyer, why does he not use that money to meet his ethical obligations? Does that not prove he is more fervent in defrauding his clients than in meeting his ethical obligations to them?

We met with Adam at Evolv Surfaces to explore countertop options. Adam is very knowledgeable and was very helpful in educating and guiding us through the selection process. We chose Neolith Calcutta Ultra Soft for its natural beauty, strength, and easy maintenance. He connected us with FM Distributing. They are truly masters in their measurements, fabrication and installation. We have a garden window that extends out beyond the kitchen sink. They were able to install the Neolith in one piece so the countertop extends from the sink and cabinet counter into the window floor without a step or seam which we wanted. All joints and edges are smooth and the backsplash patterns match up with the countertop patterns beautifully. We are so pleased with Adam and the team at FM. They were always professional, courteous, responsive, on time and highly skilled. In the end, the best part of the entire project was the Neolith countertop and backsplash. No problems, no delays, no frustration. Just perfect.
