This is my favorite Mexican place in Asheville! It doesn't look like much from the outside but the food is amazing and they're so fast. I get takeout from here once or twice a month and it's always ready within 10 minutes of calling. If you want to support a small, locally owned business try them out! The inside is small but they have some tables at the back for larger groups, a nice covered patio space you can use even in the rain, and smaller booths for intimate groups.

Our go to lunch spot when we're in Asheville for a visit to the Biltmore. Conveniently located about a half mile from the Biltmore. Don't be put off by the entrance, the food is consistently delicious and the staff is always friendly and welcoming.

I don't understand the lower ratings on Yelp. Google reviews are higher 4.4 to 4.5. This place was awesome. Chips are fresh and crunchy and food was very flavorful. The pollo Fiesta had tons of chicken and fresh vegetables. Generous portions. Decor is old style Mexican with tiled tables. Would definitely come back.

I just had lunch at El Chapala today and it was darn good. I ate there with four friends and everyone agreed that it was cut above your average Mexican restaurant. To begin with they have a self-serve salsa bar with maybe 6 or 7 salsas. I tried 4 and all of them were quality. In addition to the salsas the chips are served with a bean dip which was great. They also have a very reasonably priced lunch menu. I went with the pork burrito and was pleasantly surprised by good it was. Service was timely and friendly and I feel that I very much so got my money's worth out of the experience. I would absolutely return.

    happy birthday to me :)

Best place to gossip with your friends and eat delicious queso. Fast service and good vibes, usually have soccer games playing on tv, etc.

The space is very nicely designed and laid out. Plenty of room in a cozy environment. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, on top of being very effective. I was extremely pleased to find that they even had a few different vegetarian proteins for their various dishes. In terms of the food, I went with a burrito bowl with vegan chorizo. The presentation was fantastic: my photo doesn't do it justice. It was also enormous. Much more food than I could finish, but also delicious. There were so many layers of flavors and textures that really came together in a cohesive dish. The best part is that they offer three different house made salsas, which really leveled up the dish and the experience. I would absolutely recommend checking this place out. The very hip, somewhat low key vibe was comfortable while also feeling high end well designed.

Sadly, it is over an hour and a half drive if we want to return. Alberto, the owner, was very welcoming, along with his servers and bartender. That day, they had a Mariachi band, which was really cool, and the music was great for the ambiance of the place. Alberto told us about his other restaurant, and I would love to go check it out one day as well. We observed him closely as he was speaking to all the patrons like family and was very good at answering any questions. There's a salsa bar that is included in case anyone wants to try their house-made salsas. They start you off with fresh chips and the dip they have. It is honestly the best we have had so far, and my husband loves Mexican cuisine a lot. It's a mix of refried beans with cheese sauce and red sauce. I ordered the Camarones Zarandeados-- Peel-and-eat shrimp, marinated in house seasoning, and garnished with fresh cilantro. Served with rice and corn. Along with a strawberry daiquiri. It was truly a dish I would want to return to eat. The seasoned shrimp were juicy, and I loved peeling them myself and getting messy with the juices. II usually dislike most rice made in restaurants, but this was definitely delicious, and I'd happily eat it again. My husband had a creamy burrito with steak , peppers onions , and olla beans topped with cheese sauce and served with rice , lettuce, and tomatoes on the side. His drink was a Corona margarita. It was a huge portion, and he was full after eating 3/4 of the burrito. It is interesting he said it was his favorite to date as well. We both tried the birria tacos , and OMG, they were so yummy!! The sauce made for them was perfect, and the meat was actually seasoned well. I've had other ones, and well, let's just say they weren't my favorite. We also tried the "paleta" shot. It tasted just like tamarind. That was definitthe order of ely great and refreshing even as a shot. We ended with the Sopapilla for dessert. It was truly a lovely evening with my husband after an almost 2-hour drive to Asheville, and I am eager to go back for the great food and ambiance. If you want great-quality food with a definitely great price tag, go visit La Cabana Mexican Grill.
