One of my new favorites in town. They update their menu monthly, which is great but also bad when you find something you love. We sat at the bar and Ryan was a great bartender. He provided excellent recommendations. All of which we ordered and loved. The restaurant was bustling in the main room. It's more upscale but still a chill vibe. We had the chili relleno which was amazing. It came with both verde and roja sauces. Cheesy and gooey! It seeped a mixture of goat cheese, Monterey Jack, and cheddar. This should definitely be a staple on their menu. We also ordered the sixteen spice lamb which came with a delightful orzo pilaf and mint zhoug. So yummy! The last dish was the ginger cilantro shrimp. Yum! Very flavorful. It came with a cauliflower velouté, chayote, and pineapple pico. The dishes were the perfect size to grab a few and share. I can't wait to try their next menu which starts tomorrow. read more

A favorite of our adult children's, Limones was a restaurant suggested that we go to here. We were celebrating my our son's birthday. Our service person was spectacular: accessible, professional, and thoroughly knowledgeable about the cuisine here in Asheville, N.C. It was a very enjoyable, promising beginning. I have to say, honestly, the food was good. In my view, the food was not spectacular. I can't say that it was bad by any stretch of the imagination; all of it was tasty. In all fairness husband loved his Shrimp dish. That said, the price of the food did not match the experience nor the expectation; such an expense would invite most restaurant guests to assume the cuisine would be spectacular. Really cute ambiance upon coming in, but the food... THE FOOD. We got the limones burger & the short rib enchiladas and I think it's near impossible to pick which was better. The enchiladas held so much flavor and complexity -- my only qualm was that they only gave me two! I could've eaten at least 3 more. The burger -- I know what you're thinking.. why come to a place like this and get the burger, but I can guarantee you this burger supersedes most places that specialize in just burgers. To finish it off, we got the bread pudding and it was delectable. The bread pudding came with an insatiable caramel as well as a pumpkin spice ice cream. My only issue here was that the exterior was a little tough compared to the center. Would definitely look into getting the churros next time! Had high expectations based on other reviews and was unfortunately very disappointed. We ordered several small plates and a few entrees as well as a few of their 'famous' margaritas. Blood orange margarita was exceptionally sour, caliente margarita was underwhelming, and the Thai-chili mango got sent back for being too sweet in exchange for the traditional which shocked our server into brief silence. Ceviche fish was not flaky but on the meatier side, however, still great flavor. Lobster nachos also good flavor but ironically the chunks of lobster were so large that it didn't make for great nachos. Flautas were a hit albeit a small portion (only 2) and the chile relleno was outstanding. Entrees were lamb (didn't try but was told it was good, same with the steak). Shrimp entree was okay, but underwhelming for nearly $50. The al pastor chicken skewers (came with 2 chicken tenders by the way) were very, very delicious, great flavor almost Mediterranean. Service was horrible. Such a lack of personality which I've never really had happen so I was amazed at how much it affected the overall meal but it genuinely made the meal a negative experience, I couldn't see myself going again, truly tanked an expensive dinner. If you choose this place over the other better options in the area, sit at the bar and only get the small plates? read more

They claim the best margaritas in Asheville. Maybe the best in 10 feet. They sucked. Limited flavors and no frozen ones. Food was ok at best. Red Snapper suplace. was ok as fish of the day since they ran out of tile fish. I have no idea what that was. The service was bad but we had a new employee. The street corn and salsa sides were ok. Sat at the bar, luckily there were 2 bartenders there as we were overlooked by one till the other stepped up. Not sure if they had split the bar in half but ill just think of it like that. Our first time here, ordered street corn and Avacado Tartare. The presentation of all the food was on point as was the taste. I do wish the street corn would have been off the cob as it is quite messy eating that in a restaurant. The tartare was good, but we also thought it would have been nice to be blended in with the Avacado. Next we ordered the Black Angus dish, that night it was a rib eye. Everything on the plate was delicious. Very much recommend. Also ordered the Pork Chop. That wasn't bad, not a lot of meat but the taste was good. I definitely think the Black Angus dish over-shadowed everything else we tried. It's a nice place and I would come here again for just that dish and to try a few other menu items. read more

As we often do when hitting a higher end restaurant, we wanted to sample as much of the menu as we could. So we order a bunch of small plates, and split an entree. I am pescatarian, so I can't speak to any of the carnivorous dishes, but if what we had was any indication, I think you'll be pretty happy. That said, here's how we found things: The space is incredibly welcoming, warmly lit, not too crowded. That said, it is usually very busy. And it is very loud in there. So loud that you can barely hear your tablemates speak, especially if there is a boisterous party next to you, which happened to us. So, a mixed bag on ambience. The space could do with some acoustic treatment on the walls and ceilings. Lots of hard surfaces there. Cocktails are very good to excellent. Many of them are served up, which is my preference. Sometimes there's an excess of ice not properly strained out of the cocktails, which kind of negate having them up. Ceviche is lovely. Masa tostadas as well. Had fish of the day on two occasions, and it was excellent both times. Overall, the food is very, very good, and the service is fairly quick. Staff is friendly and very competent. Sometimes when they get a little rushed, there might be a little delay, but they'll find you without excessive delays. Reservations are required if you want a table. But they usually seat you almost immediately. All in all,, a very, very good restaurant. I just wish it were a little less loud. read more

My husband and I had a delightful anniversary meal at Limones tonight. The staff, especially our server, KC, were welcoming and attentive. The drinks (margaritas and an old fashioned) were tasty and strong (in a good way). We had a tomato and feta appetizer, as well as, flautas that were delicious and generously portioned for two people. The short rib enchiladas was perhaps the favorite dish we had. Chile rellenos were just fine, but not as tasty as the other offerings. A decadent flourless chocolate torte rounded out the meal. It was just perfect with coffee. This place is where it's at! I've heard of the chef scene in Asheville and wanted to try a noteworthy spot, and Limones was ideal for the occasion. We tried: -Lobster nachos -Street corn and then for my entree, I honestly didn't even know what I was getting but knew I wanted something vegetarian and it was this beautiful head of cabbage, special house made sauces, and lentils. It was phenomenal! I still don't know what all was in it, but it was five stars. The Lobster nachos were also really good, with veggies loaded into them and a nice richness that made them good for sharing. The street corn was fine but incredibly messy the way it was presented, and honestly a bit forgettable. Also had a nice blood orange margarita and it was perfectly made. Oh and service was great; attentive without being overbearing, and helpful in explaining everything. Vibes in here are classic urban restaurant vibes with a long bench seat and several two tops in a row, but just enough space to not feel super crowded. We were excited to try Limones based on its high rating and description as "Mexican + Californian cuisine." As Californians who grew up with bold, authentic Mexican flavors--and who've spent time in Mexico--we were really looking forward to a unique, elevated twist. But from the moment we looked at the menu, we were a little confused. The ingredients didn't feel aligned with California Mexican at all--think goat cheese, halloumi, romesco, labneh, and fava bean mash. I usually prefer chicken, but there were very limited meat options--and the one dish we were actually interested in was sold out. When I asked to add chicken to a vegetarian quesadilla, the request was declined. We even tried the ceviche since it's frequently mentioned, but it was honestly a letdown. It came with scallops (no shrimp or fish), had no citrus kick, and tasted flat--definitely not the bright, refreshing ceviche we know and love. Even the cocktails, like the guava mojito and margarita, were underwhelming. To their credit, the staff was kind and the space was beautiful and clean. But the food just didn't match the branding or the buzz. If this is meant to be a health-forward, Latin-inspired fusion restaurant, that's totally fine--just be clear about it. But calling this California Mexican sets expectations that simply aren't met. We left unsatisfied, underwhelmed, and ended up ordering room service just to feel like we actually had dinner. We came here to celebrate a birthday as we were visiting and had a great time! I ordered the Mint Ginger Margarita which certainly exceeded my expectations. We also ordered a couple appetizers for the table, the ceviche and lobster nachos. Both appetizers were delicious!! I ordered the Sea Scallops which came with Butternut Squash Mash and Asparagus. The Scallops were a lot bigger than I expected. I was extremely impressed! They were perfectly seasoned and cooked. I'd definitely come back just for this entree. Our server was really nice and gave us great recommendations since it was our first time here. The restaurant in general had an interesting vibe. We made a reservation for a Friday night and got seated right away. We also parked in a parking garage very close to the restaurant. Tried limones during a girls weekend in Asheville as it came highly recommended. We arrived at 5pm when it opened and we're seated immediately at the bar. The restaurant was modernish with skeletons on the walls and a lager space in the back. We ordered drinks to start. The bartender recommended the Margarita Caliente and it was an over sell. It was not great. Throughout the meal my friend switched to the Prickly Pear Margarita which she said was better and I had a house made spicy lemonade. It was honestly the best mocktails I've had. To start we had the ceviche sampler - it had the tuna, monkfish and shrimp. It was overall fresh and flavorful. The Oaxaca Cheese + Rajas Quesadillas + guacamole + salsa macha and Short Ribs Barbacoa Gordita + queso fresco + salsa macha were well cooked delicious starters. Short Ribs Barbacoa Enchiladas + mole poblano + marcona basmati rice + crema + queso fresco + pickled onions we're good and flavorful. So good that I had them again in the morning. We finished with Cinnamon-brown sugar churros with caramel sauce & sipping hot chocolate. The churros were my favorite dish. They were light and fresh. However, the sipping chocolate was watered down. The meal ended on a sour note as the bartender took our food away at the end without asking...which was odd, but he may have been a bit stressed after a drink was spilled by someone else on his mixing cards. Just came back here for the first time in years. I remembered loving it fondly , so I'm not sure why I gave it four stars last time. Once again, I did not disappoint. Super cozy inside, I would commend making reservations because this is a top spot for brunch and dinner like. I like that they have cozy little tables but they spread them out so it feels like you have your own space. Great decor and lighting. The service was absolutely spectacular.. I forgot our servers name that was incredibly knowledgeable. He had an accent. If that helps. He seems very passionate about all of his stuff and gave great recommendations. I remember reading about the lobster nachos and opted for those- really great size for people to share. To be honest, the corn felt pretty standard and quite expensive for what you got. It's kind of a staple at Mexican restaurants but it didn't wow me here. I did get the fish entrée and it was incredible. Perfectly cooked and seasoned with rice and veggies and sauce. Everything came together in a creamy delicious comforting way. I also had the blood orange margarita, and it was nice to have something seasonal as an option. I'm not much of a margarita person, but this one was refreshing if I had to choose one again, this could be on the list. Again, incredible food, ambience, and service. A pre-glance at their food menu didn't spark my interest so we had dinner first and then came here for a drink and dessert. Don't let the pecans deter you from the tres leches cake. Not impressed with service that was set in motion by the first waiting staff member. He appeared with water and a snarky comment. Then when my wife asked him to recommend appetizers he said "you make choices and then I will tell you". She then thought he was being humorous and then he thought it would be funny to trip her up by confusing the matter by asking he questions at the same moment. Then only to find him saying "by the way I'm not your waiter" , and walked away with a sarcastic comment "good luck and I am too caffeinated to remain here". My wife and the other couple we were with were blanked out on this being the front line person. All four of us are well traveled and are fans of great food environments. We almost left after that interlude. Luckily the waitress brought a new style that recovered some of the disgust. Nevertheless she had limited knowledge of the menu. Food does not match the service. My sister recommended this restaurant as she ate here this summer. I made a reservation via OpenTable and then needed to make it a later time and they accommodated our change. My friend started off with a blood orange margarita which I tasted and liked. We shared the lobster nachos as an appetizer and all of us loved it. The menu Is an interesting mix of Mexican dishes and traditional American food. I decided to have the lamb Taco appetizer for my meal. The waiter said that they could not do it as an entree after I asked. My friends had the pork chop which comes from a local farm. It was plated with delicata squash. My friends said it was really tasty. We decided to try two desserts, the flourless chocolate tart and the churros, which the menu says comes with sipping hot chocolate. I ordered an extra sipping hot chocolate since there were three of us. Actually it is a Mexican hot chocolate so it has a little bit of spice. It was good but a tad too sweet.
