Went in there today just get a simple bean and cheese burrito got three of them and he says 5.99. they tell me it's almost $23 I paid it and then I was doing the math in my head. Authentic fresh and fast Mexican food with average prices in comparison to other similar restaurants. On this visit I tried the 3 asada taco plate. Flavor of the tacos were outstanding but they are fairly small street tacos. Other than that it was very good. Cashier is super nice and friendly and gave great customer service. As far as the ambiance they are way overdue to update the dining area. The booths are in pretty bad shape and torn. Also very small with only 6 tables. Been coming to El Charro for years. We've ordered often and well close to $100 because we are a bigger family. Got an asada burrito this morning, and to my surprise there was a metal rivet in my food! I've never had an issue and always recommended them. Today I am over it. I'm sure it wasn't on purpose but you definitely gotta be more careful. Check your equipment, check your food prepared & so on. Unfortunately won't be returning, this could've been one of my kids! Decent little hole in the wall. I've gone on two seperate occasions to see how consistent the food was. It isn't. The burrito was much smaller the first time, and the second time it was bigger. The green Chile verde burrito was small but it was really really tasty! The bigger burrito was a carné asada and the meat was dry and the rice was hard. Very very inconsistent. I am giving 3 stars for that chilé verde because it is probably the best I've ever had and I have had it at so many places. Tastes really authentic. My husband and I came here at 845pm on a Sunday night. This place closes at 9 but they still took our order and was very nice about it. I usually don't like to dine at places within 30 minutes of closing because I feel bad and also know that usually workers just want to go home. It this place was very nice. They're following physical distancing having tables not in use. They had little table outside also. All we ordered were 8 asada tacos, bottled drinks and chips and salsa. Ok , tried a few spots already in the high desert. More misses than hits. But this place was actually pretty good. Reasonably priced. Flavorful food. Friendly service. Recently tried the menudo and I would recommend it. Most places only have it on Sat/Sun but I picked up some from here on a Wednesday evening. Ordered some pozole too. Both are worth the price. I also have had a hard time finding good tripas tacas for the last 10 years since my friend showed me them in 2010. But this spot had good tripas tacos too. Not soft, but crunchy. I used to work at a store across the parking lot. Every day for 8 months straight I ate lunch here and I still do drop by frequently. The staff are very nice and down to earth, and they recognize and socialize with repeat customers. The menu is varied and all of it is delicious. (I would know, God rest my arteries.) I love to go around the High Desert and try out new places, but this is definitely my "home" restaurant. My go-to order is the 3-taco-combo with cabeza, tripa and lengua. Their cabeza is the best I've tasted and the lengua is on par. The tripa is pre-cooked and finished in a deep fryer, which is untraditional but is very effective food prep and gives it a very satisfying crunch in between bites of the tender, stewed cabeza and lengua. Their salsa is made fresh and in-house, and you can snack on the pickled onions, carrots and jalapenos while you wait or while you enjoy your food. Their horchata is awesome too. Verdict? I love this place. Drop by and make some new friends and enjoy some great food. (Bonus points if you spot the thing with the chickens on the wall. I've been eating at this establishment for over around 13 years crazy I know hahaha it's always been good one thing I will say this is the food always fast a little decedent depending on who is cooking it. My favorite taco from this place would be the carnitas. It is a little crunchy but so juicy just how I like it and the flavor is always on point. I felt ripped off, the place was dirty, the prices are what you would expect for a good place, but like many places in Hesperia it just plain sucks! Hesperia is full of Mexicans, and the Mexican food sucks? I don't get it. So much competition and so little good food. Kind of goes against reason. San Diego is full of great little taco shops, Cardenas can't even make good food up here. Make money with return customers, not by cutting everything with watery beans! I tried this place again hoping their "super nachos" might be good. Old chips, bland ingredients, scarce "chipped" meat. Everything was cold but the beans. $7.00 in the trash. I had to finally leave a review because this is the last time I waste money and tonight is the last time I will ever go there. El pastor tacos were gamy tasting but lacked flavor as usual. I agree with other reviews about the food tasting bland, and the carne asada burrito was gross. The meat in the burrito was crunchy and without any flavor or marinade as well. I couldn't finish my food again. Same as all the other times. I also agree with other reviews about the salsa being weak and bland too. I don't understand why it doesn't come close to good Mexican food yet they charge a pretty penny for it. You want great Mexican, good go to El Torrito Meat Market on Hesperia Rd. That's the kind of food that leaves the yummy smell of their delicious Mexican food on your hands and in your mouth well after you've eaten there and with fresh ingredients. Walking into El Charro was no surprise, tiny establishment located between two other tiny ones as well. The inside consisted of a register and a long walkway where the Seats were located at. Good Mexican food in the high desert is very hard to find as I had to learn the hard way. As we walked inside, there was a little ol' lady smiling at us, we ordered 4 tacos, an order of fries and a chile relleno. It came out to 15$ they took especially long to cook our order because a couple in front of us ordered so much food. I would of been upset if I was in a hurry. Once out food came, the lady thanked us for being so patient. I can honestly say the tacos Al Pastor were delicious. Wow, first time eating good tacos in the high desert! The carne asada was a little greasy but nothing that ruins it. There was a lack of salsas and other sides, but I will be coming back for tacos. I ordered two tacos of asada, one of chicken, and one of carnitas. My bf ordered a carne asada burrito. All four tacos were extremely dry and tasted like it was just reheated on the grill as well as the burrito. The meat was dry to the point that parts of the meat were hard and had sharp edges. The horchata was good, but that's about the only good thing from this experience.
