Our dinners there have always been great! Service is good too. Certainly a traditional Mexican food restaurant. Unlike a busier establishment not too far away called, Salsas Grill, that is 100% Gringo Mexi-Southern food with added sugar and gravy which we did not like. Salsa's gives huge quantity, but I'd rather have quality that is more authentic Mexican cuisine like at El Charro, and I never leave hungry from El Charro anyways! We do ask for El Charro's spicy salsa so that we can blend it in with their standard salsa. My son usually asks for their chili verde in some form like nacho, enchilada, or burrito, and I like it very much too. I usually try to order their special plate with their Mexican braised beef and a Mexican cheese blend, but I can get in a soft taco platter as well. Their stewed or braised beef and pork items are excellent, you can't go wrong for tenderness and flavor. Warning: I've not ordered anything with chicken, so order that at your own risk. I appreciate good Mexican restaurants like El Charro, and I've eaten at a lot of excellent Mexican food places having lived over 3 decades in Phoenix, AZ and over 3 decades in California (Lompoc, Santa Barbara, Ventura and Oxnard). I spent about a year in Kansas City, Kansas on corporate expenses so I ate out all the time. I tried almost every BBQ joint there and in Martin City. Some really good and some really bad BBQ, but I've always been a foodie and home cook since I was a child. read more

Charros has been our go-to restaurant for many years. The service is attentive, polite and personal. There is never a long wait to get food. Servers check periodicallly to make sure you are pleased or if you need anything. Great food at reasonable price. We always order the chile verde or enchiladas verdes--enough to eat there and take home too. read more

Could not have been better. We were immediately greeted with a smile and seated. Our server made us feel welcome and gave us plenty of time to order. The food is always excellent. The El Charro chicken and chicken fajita taco salad were delicious. The place is always well lit and very clean. Looking forward to our next trip there. read more

While I'm Arkansas spending time with family, we decided to grab some Mexican food and stopped by El Charro, which came highly recommended. At first, I was against the idea because we deep in Arkansas grabbing Mexican food. That notion just didn't seem right. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the place, staff and quality of the food. The owner and staff were friendly and welcoming. We didn't have to wait too long for our food to come out. I ended up ordering chilled Verde and my girlfriend ordered enchiladas. Outside the meat being cut up differently, the chilled Verde tasted just like it does when I buy it back in California.... Save your money!! Ordered the "Double Fajitas" for my son and I (which costs $24) and the amount of meat and how it was served was appalling! Normally, fajitas are in strips and for $24 would expect a fair amount of meat: no, this chicken was in small little pieces, like what you would find in a chicken fried rice meal. My husband said the enchiladas were nothing special and the tortilla overcooked and hard to chew. The service was indifferent. Next time we will go to Chili's- we can alway count on a good value there, especially for fajitas. read more

What a great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant in the middle of Arkansas. It is clearly a family run business. Friendly and fast service. I had chips and salsa (extra hot of course) carne asada plate with extra grilled jalapeños. The portion was very generous with two large marinated flank steak grilled disinfection. It came with beans and rice and some nice fresh grilled jalapeños. Next time I find myself fishing on the White River I will be sure to stop back by here. read more

The food here is pretty good, but the decor is a bit dark and grim. I agree with those who complain about the staff. They're not really friendly or attentive, my waitress left me sitting with my menu closed for awhile before coming over to take my order. PATRONIZE AT YOUR OWN RISK! I've been to this place twice in 2 months. The first time was actually pretty good. However... The next visit (last Saturday) was memorable for how bad it was. The menu for Fajitas shows a menu page (none of the menus shown are current btw) for everything that comes with Fajitas should you order Fajitas. Being vegetarians, I asked for the Fajita Nachos that should have come with everything listed that comes with Fajitas. The only proviso? No meat. The waiter then says "Just cheese?" I pointed to the top of the page about the sour cream, guacamole, peppers, etc., that should come with Fajita Nachos. The waiter tells me that the information located on the Fajitas' page, that outlines what comes with Fajitas - I assume - does not come with Fajita Nachos. Were sitting in front of a bowl of complimentary tortilla chips and a side order of queso which cost $2.50; or I could pay $8.99 for the same thing if I ordered Fajita Nachos. I went for the Taco Salad. My son ordered Fajitas. I make fajitas at home at least once a week and I use chipotle and cayenne pepper as well as fresh Jalapeno peppers to go with every color bell pepper I can get my hands on. What arrived to my son's side of the table was eye-opening in a not good way. Delivered to him was a steaming plate of grossly overcooked green bell peppers and onions. Oh, and tomatoes. I don't use tomatoes in fajitas, I've never been to a place that has. My son tells me he's glad he's had my fajitas because this was the first time he ordered fajitas out. He told me it was good that he'd had my fajitas before ordering these restaurant fajitas as if he'd had these fajitas first, he'd probably never order fajitas again. I tasted his fajitas and immediately noticed the strong, nearly overbearing taste of cumin. Otherwise, there was no spice at all. No heat whatsoever. Mexican food is supposed to have heat and be spicy. Somebody should tell this cook that. The huge pile of slop composed of way overcooked onions and green peppers alleged to be fajitas - to be blunt - were the consistency of snot. To add insult to injury, the 3 tortillas that were wrapped in foil were 5" wide. So my son loads the beans and rice and sour cream onto a tortilla and some of the slop. I should point out that my son is 20 years old, 3 child size tortillas were not going to be enough. But for another $2.50, we got 3 more 5" tortillas. Total Rip Off! We were going to see Zombieland after lunch, so we thought we'd celebrate with the Cheesecake Chimichanga advertised on the dessert part of the menu (is on the menu pictures shown). Of course they were out. They weren't even sorry they were out. The Cheesecake Chimichangas are this restaurant's signature dessert. It's even on their old menus which are shown in their pictures. It's Saturday. It's 1:30 p.m. The place is nearly empty. How are they out? I've determined that El Charro in Mountain Home has gone to Hell. The waitstaff was disinterested and argumentative and had no knowledge of how to make fajitas, the Fajita Nacho's I wanted sans meat would not have Fajitas which made no sense and they were out of the only dessert we wanted. El Charro gets one star and a suggestion that you patronize any other Mexican Restaurant in Mountain Home. There are 6 others. Otherwise, it's kind of a crap shoot. Can't recommend it and will never go back. read more

The food here was a little below average to me. The chips and salsa were just okay. I decided to go with shrimp chimichanga that came with rice and beans. The chimichanga tasted okay, but I don't think it was fried long enough. It was a bit soggy and when I cut off a piece, the whole thing would start to fall apart. The beans tasted as if they were burned and the rice was overcooked and didn't have much flavor. Rice and beans are pretty basic, so I'm not sure how you can mess that up. read more

This is our office's go to for cheap and awesome Mexican cuisine in town. We lunched there two to three times a week before Rona. They are quick to the table and very attentive which is fantastic for the limited lunch break time. Salsa is a good thick tomato-y flavor. I'm usually wishing I didn't eat so much every time I leave. We have moved around the country quite a bit over the last 10 years or so and cannot seem to find anyone who can compare with the fajita sauce marinade and the oh so delicious white cheese dip! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this place! Came in from out of town and didn't know where to go. We LOVE Mexican food so we hoped this was good. I got the quesadilla delux and he got the super burrito. Both were delicious and came out very quickly! Also eaten very quickly! He got some grilled jalapeños and said they were "perfectly hot".
