The second best I've ever had is at this Mexican spot right off Derry Street in Harrisburg, PA. As soon as you walk in the door, there's a beautiful yellow that automatically makes you feel like you're sitting in the countryside of a sweet Mexican village. Although I haven't been to Mexico yet, I can only imagine how it feels with the beautiful Aztec culture all around, the pictures, and, of course, those wonderful plants that tequila is made from displayed on the wall. When I order, I do it by numbers because I'm not fluent in Spanish yet, but hearing the staff speak Spanish makes me feel like I'm getting the real deal. I always get a Mexican soda or an imported drink so that every bite and sip teleports me right to where the food originated. Now, some people may shy away from this place because of the area it's in, but I guarantee you can call ahead to order or just sit inside. The salsa Verde that came on the chicken was medium spicy and had a nice kick to it. It actually made me sweat, but in a good way. We ate pretty quickly because I just wasn't feeling a good vibe inside the restaurant. I asked for the check and presented my coupon. While getting checked out at the register, I asked for change for a $20 (for a cash tip) in the form of a 10 and two fives and was presented a 10 a five and five ones. Because when the craving for real tacos hits, logic and weather forecasts no longer matter. First things first -- parking is easy. Big stoned lot right at the shack. Love that for me. Second thing -- and this is important -- Little Mexico Tacos is CASH ONLY. I learned this at the counter, which triggered an immediate wallet excavation worthy of an archaeological dig. My goal: secure enough funds for a chorizo burrito and street corn in a cup. I found a $20 bill and decided to live dangerously. Plot twist #1: they were out of rice. Brief emotional damage. Apparently rice is a key player in many menu items, but I pivoted like a seasoned professional because when tacos call, you answer. Plot twist #2: my total came to $20.14. FOURTEEN CENTS OVER. I braced myself for the walk of shame, but the guy at the counter waved it off like the legend he is. Sir, if you're reading this, I hope your pillow is always cool and your tacos are always perfect.
