Decent little Mexican place in the Allison Hill section of Harrisburg. It is located on Derry Street in a blue & red building with two satellite dishes (see exterior photo). The restaurant itself had a few tables, a frozen ice cream box, video chance games, a huge rack of phone cards and several pictures decorating the walls. Most of the pictures depicted scenes from mexico, such as poncho villa, zapata, rural life, cows, etc... one of the walls was covered in mirrors and had a sombrero hanging on it. They have standard tacos at 2.50 apiece, chicken, beef or pork. We tried several of them. There was also a Torta for 8.50 that was pretty decent. There was some type of hot sauce (Valentina brand) here that that we put on it made it significantly better. The helado de fresa or strawberry ice cream ($1.50) balanced it out. We also had the Bistek Ranchero: it came with 6 yellow corn tortillas, onions, cilantro, beans, rice & lots of beef, mixed with red pepper. That cost 14.00 pretty decent if you ask me. What makes this place stand out in my opinion is the " tostada ceviche de camaron " or lime marinaded seafood salad on a deep fried corn tortilla. Second review of this place! The first time my order was messed up, and it's no big deal, things happen, and the food was still good. That being said, I went today and got four tacos, two adobada and two carnitas, and when I tell you the tacos were delicious, that's no joke. I recently ordered take out from Tacos my Tierra. I haven't lived in Harrisburg for a few years and was in town. I ordered steak tacos and tres leche cake. The tacos were sooooo goooood. It's been a challenge finding good Mexican food since moving to PA. From York, to Harrisburg to Lancaster- I haven't found any food that compares to what I was use to in NYC. Tacos mi Tierra is the first time where the food had all the familiar flavors. Fresh lime, fresh onion and cilantro, the crunchy red radish slices. Well seasoned steak. The young onion wrapped in the aluminum foil. It's simple but perfect. A lot of the Mexican restaurants in town (even the well rated ones) just serve brown mush, no fresh ingredients, soggy beans, and ice berg lettuce & poorly seasoned food. Nothing like what it should be. Tacos mi Tierra is keeping tradition alive and seasoning their food thoughtfully. As delicious as the tacos were, I was blown away by the tres leche cake. Culturally, I'm suppose to love it, I'm Dominican and it's very popular in my culture, but I've never really liked a tres leche cake, until I tried theres. It was moist and light and not overly sweet. It was quite frankly one of the best flavored slices of cake I've ever. While I was in my hometown, I needed a haircut, but I didn't know where to go so I went back to my old roots and I called my Barber from my childhood. We had an appointment set, but he failed to show up this left me devastated however I got online and I looked up another Barber on Booksy and it led me to a barbershop on Derry Street in Harrisburg PA. Being on the street sparked my childhood memories as I remember going to a taco joint on the same street now their spot has been well known for a very long time all around the city so here I am waiting for the Barber to arrive for my appointment eagerly awaiting. I began to have a hunger in my stomach, so I decided to get some tacos and I wasn't disappointed. The space inside was very clean so clean that you could smell the cleanliness in the air. The smell was not a bleach, fabuloso or fresh lavender laundry it just smelled clean on top of delicious food. There's plenty of seating inside of this place TV to keep you entertained and of course it is playing beautiful traditional Mexican music. The staff was friendly and inviting and they also had delicious desserts inside the refrigerator, I got the lengua tacos and also the steak and I must say the tacos were a hard 4.2 out of five I bit a hot pepper and at first it was delicious and then I finished the whole thing along with my last taco and my mouth was on fire which I loved and I enjoyed. These tacos are legit and tastes like the street tacos in California. It was packed in there with people eating and it can be tough to find some parking, but the food is worth it in my opinion. AWESOME TACOS!!!!! The Pork (carnitas) was easily the winner but, 2nd 3rd and 4th were winners too! I don't think we'll ever eat anything else on the menu because these were so awesome it's all we'll eat. I'll still order all of them because I love variety but my wife will only ever eat the carnitas and it's going to be hard to eat anywhere else on our date nights. Don't be fooled by the neighborhood or the exterior or the interior. If you are looking for genuine Mexican tacos this is absolutely the place to go. No table service...you order at the counter. This place still doesn't fail as my favorite taco place! It's not for some faint-hearted people and I say this now because I've taken some people here who may be high maintenance and regretted it a bit (I lie I regretted it a lot hence my comment here). Also if you got weird food restrictions I would ask but maybe proceed with caution. Their food is superb and yes it looks rough on the outside due to the neighborhood and street parking but if you want non soggy carnitas and an awesome salsa selection, this is your place!! Very impressed with everything that Tacos Mi Tierra has to offer, and around here this is the closest spot to get tacos al pastor as close to the Tijuana/ San Diego quality. Will definitely be returning! My friend and I each tried carne asada, chorizo, and al pastor. All 3 had great flavor and were complemented very well with the salsas available. As someone previously mentioned, what's most missing is the saucy/salty flavoring to the meat. I've tried my best to recreate this as follows: 1) Al pastor taco with cilantro + onions 2) add a half a pinch of salt over the meat 3) few drops of tapatio 4) lather with red or green salsa 5) squeeze a bit of lime over the top. Talk about a hole in the wall. Super authentic counter serve taco shop. No frills, formica tables, but man is there food good. Most tacos are $2 and have everything from chicken, beef, al pastor, chorizo and more. All tacos come in a soft shell flour tortilla and come with cilantro and onions complimentary. You absolutely have to stop at the salsa counter/drawer and grab some of their house made sauces. The red one is pretty spicy, but the others are mild, smoky, creamy, all amazing. I'm a big eater and got six different tacos, but four would probably made a good sized lunch. Everyone one of them were delicious and made to order. 100% worth it. read more

Got the carne asada, al pastor, and simmered pork tacos. They were very simple and showcased the meat (which was wonderfully seasoned). The tortillas were fresh. Woop woop! Amazing mf-ing tacos Even though it's been well over a year since I've been here, I still remember this place like it was yesterday. Small little hole in the wall spot run by a family. They had all of the tacos that one could ever want. The salsas were amazing too. If cleanliness is your thang, you might be a little turned off, but never mind that. The tacos are legit. I want to start this review by mentioning that I REALLY wanted this place to be good. It had every sign to me that it would be an excellent restaurant! I was sorely mistaken. I will start as always with Laura's nut allergy/cross contamination awareness. They were very understanding and didn't have much of anything in the store that had nuts (Laura will can die if she eats any nut). Only things in the restaurant were some wrapped pastries that were separate from the kitchen itself. The cashier was very kind and seemed genuinely concerned when we made her aware. A+ on the allergen awareness part of this pop quiz. We enjoyed the regular chips and salsa which were fine. They had nothing special about them, nothing bad either. We trudged on. Our food came out rather promptly which made sense to me since we were the only patrons at the time. (we came some time between lunch hours and dinner hours) We got shrimp tacos, a crab tostada, a chicken taco, a side of rice and beans, and a veggie quesadilla. I would love to say that any of it was worth more than it was. I doctored the living crap out of the shrimp tacos with salsa and hot sauce in the hopes to get ANY more flavor into them but all efforts to save the poor things were beaten by the fact the the shrimp had texture (tough and rubbery) and NO taste. Laura's chicken taco was just as overcooked and tasteless. Next was the crab tostada. It was terrible. I could pick the dish apart piece by piece but that would be pointless. It was hardly palatable. The veggie quesadilla could be choked down but I am never one to be happy paying for food i can just hardly "Choke down". The rice and beans were the final straw and I'm positive we left with a copious amount of food still on our plates and nothing but upset stomachs to show for our culinary adventure. This place gets two stars simply because I hope they see this review and decide to try a bit harder. Your staff seemed nice and you were all very accommodating to my girlfriends allergy.
