It was my first time visiting this restaurant, and I ordered a to go plate with Fish, Shrimp and Onions. I got back to work and only 3 of the Shrimp were de-veined. The rest of the Shrimp, which was quite a few, still had all the nasty stuff inside. I called the restaurant and was told that they cook the Shrimp how they get it; they personally don't de-vein their Shrimp. This may not be mandatory, but it would be less disgusting and my $16 lunch would have been much better. I ended up throwing more than half of my lunch away. read more

Horrible customer service. Came in with a group of 10 to give it a second try after a horrible first experience ( rice was under cooked, shrimp tasted like it had been defrosted and put on my plate ) and didn't fail to disappoint a second time. Was told they could not serve such a large group and that I could order my food to go and eat outside. Who does that? And why have outdoor seating if you're not gonna use it. Horrible Customer Service! We were a party of 11 people and I asked if we could have 2 tables one for the adults and the other for the children. They said no because that would take two waitress and two separate pay checks. I told them that was fine we could use two waitress and two checks was okay. Then they made another excuse and asked if the kids would be able to order for themselves. Like what?! Yes, they all speak! This has to be my favorite mariscos restaurant in town! So good that when my mom asks if I wanna go I drop everything to meet her there lmao. Every time I've went I was never disappointed. Very friendly staff, amazing food, and even better drinks. I see a lot of complaints about the waits but anyone that has worked in a restaurant understands that not everyone eats in 10 min. I honestly don't mind the wait at all because it's definitely worth it. Tacos gobernador and tostada emperador are MUST TRY! They are my 2 go to's. So if you haven't yet, head down and try it! But if you don't eat a lot and really want a michelada and some food but think you won't be able to handle, get a marischelada. Great prices on the lunch menu. Unfortunately, three out of the four times I've been here the wet sauce in my burritos is ice cold. Which isn't the biggest of issues but it kind of makes me wonder if things in the back are even kept at the right temperature. It SUCKS!!! Let's start with waiting to get seated. They couldn't figure out where to seat a party of 16+. When they got our table they asked if we had children we said yes. So they said they were going to put them in another table away from us so they wouldn't bother us. So because there wasn't room on the table they gave us for all of us the kids and parents sat across our tables and El Chilito staff told them they had to move from that table, I don't understand why? They wanted them in the corner table. And than they took their time in taking some of our order of just drinks. So we paid for our drinks and took our business somewhere else. We called the rest of our friends to meet us somewhere else. They need to get better management & personnel, this ladies(staff) look like they didn't know what they where doing and they were all blaming each other for there mistakes. This place has restored my faith for delicious Mexican food in Bakersfield. I went here last night for the first time with little to no expectation, but I left so pleased with my choices. I had a Michelada and Tacos Emperador which I highly recommend. The tacos were perfection! The shrimp were seasoned nicely with a hint of chipotle; they were covered in melted cheese which took the tacos over the top. It comes with a side salad of shredded lettuce and pico de gallo which I added to my tacos along with a squeeze of lemon. I also tasted my friend's dishes which were all delicious! I'll be coming back here for my birthday for sure! I just cant recommend this place enough if you've been disappointed with "Mexican Food" here in town given this place a try. You won't leave disappointed with the service or food also the prices weren't bad at all. I spent about $18 for a Michelada and three big shrimp tacos. read more

This place was probably one of the worst places I've had. Went yesterday and I let them know that the food I was served smelled and tasted bad. Instead of fixing the problem they made sure to tell me that I still have to pay the bill for the plate full of food I couldn't eat due to the bitter taste of old oil. read more

We were driving down from Family in Fresno and discovered this Fiesta family resteraunt. It had a very fun feel, lots of different michaladas, awesome tostada chips and salsa. But the food was even better. We had the Tostada Emperador and Platillos del Mar - both excellent. Kudos to our awesome server, Manuel! read more

I am very happy with this choice! Happy that I didn't really pay attention to a few "uppity" reviews about the place! This place is clean, has a nice atmosphere and it's a Mariscos seafood establishment. The food was AMAZING! There was a lot of flavor in my shrimp in ranchero sauce and my Fiancé had the aguachile and that too had a lot of flavor that impressed us both! The Chips and salsa alone were worth the visit, the salsa had a home made flavor to it. There were a few minor surprises... we ordered the garlic bread instead of tortillas and that was a great choice like seriously don't order tortillas as your option try that garlic bread!! I was taking my left overs home and had not even tried my rice! I tried a spoonful and made my fiancé try it and we were both laughing at how freaking good it was! Let me just add my plate had a salad to it topped with avocado and there was a heavenly sauce on it! I had the tequila drink at the end of the meal it had orange juice and other ingredients rimmed with salt in a little Spanish style cup. That is now my new favorite drink! The tequila was not overwhelming and there was a lot of flavor to it! Now, service... The service was over and beyond! The gentleman that had our table gave us information on their lunch specials during the week and told us they have music on the weekends. He was very helpful explaining different selections. He came by our table to show us different options and he was just very pleasant throughout the night! This is a great date spot or drink spot with friends! We definitely will be going back! Ps. Nice place! Stopped in for lunch and had a chimichanga, friend had Diablo shrimp. Was pretty good food. The service was great, staff was friendly. Only downside were the chairs. The place was nice and clean but they were using folding lawn/banquet hall type chairs. This didn't ruin the experience but kept me from giving a 5th star. El Chilito just opened up in Bakersfield and I recommend trying it out. Good food, good prices and good staff. I was on a working lunch but there michiladas look OUTSTANDING!!!!
