Walked here from Stamford hospital on my lunch break. This food truck is parked right in-front of Hatfield park, the people roaming around looked crazy, so I forgot to take a photo when I took my tacos and ran. I should have checked if the guy laying on the bare grass with EKG stickers all over his chest was ok, but I was too hungry. This spot had a large selection of tacos; I chose to try their chicken and their birria tacos. The consomé wasn't traditional, I'm used to it being less watery and more saucy like. The hot sauces were also non traditional from my experience. I feel like they mixed it with mayo. Something about the taco texture made me feel like I was chewing wet paper. I wouldn't say this is the best taco spot, but I wouldn't say it was the worst. I wouldn't walk here again. read more

This is one of my favorite mexican food restaurant in Stamford. The food quality and prices at El Charrito make this one of the best. I would say my favorite menu item is the Burrito Chuango. I love their spicy sauce. I also order the Torta Azteca and it's delicious. A must try menu item, especially if your not really into burritos. I must add their tacos are also amazing. Y'all are tripping if this is #1 in CT for Mexican food. Absolutely not. The shrimp taco had tasty seasoned shrimp, but it was just some shrimp thrown in a double corn tortilla with a whole bunch of lettuce on top with a lemon wedge. Not even some sliced onion or cilantro. ¿Que? That's not worthy of being called #1. I also had the burrito which was tasty but a little too heavy on the beans, which overpowered the flavors of the steak and everything else. It just tasted like I was eating beans, some unidentifiable meat, roasted peppers and some cheese thrown in a tortilla. But I'm a fat boy at heart so I still ate all of it after I hit it up with some Cholula. The 3rd star is for portion size, which they did good with. The food put me right to bed. Instant itis. Which also reminds me; I didn't like the green or reddish spicy sauces. The green was bland and the spicy sauce was too hot and not flavorful enough. I might give them another shot if in the area but the trucks at New Haven Long Wharf are much better than this spot. read more

"So good" would be an understatement, this food truck is incredibly delicious. I wasn't sure what was in some of the items but the girl at the register was knowledgable and patient while explaining each item to me. It was in the negatives with windchill when we went last weekend but SO worth it. I ordered the Burrito Chilango, SO much food. Ate half which filled me up then enjoyed he other half later. Loved the sauce it came with too. Steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare. Glad the approximate address was close to where it was parked. Will stop here again if I'm ever back in the area. read more

I love the tortas and tacos! The green sauce (mild sauce) is amazing and goes really well with the tacos and tortas. My favorite item on the menu is the torta charra. You have to get it at the food truck and eat it right away since the bread will get soft. The bread is toasted perfectly when you get it at the food truck and the meat combination (brisket, steak, and chorizo) is delicious. Besides the torta charra, I usually get the lengua and chorizo taco. They are also amazing! I have ordered delivery from this location and it still is good but I would highly recommend eating it right away at the food truck!! read more

The best tacos I've had! I always get tacos from El Charrito. My fav are fish, pork w pineapple, and chorizo tacos. And OMG, the HOT sauce! I wish I can just order the sauce to go! Even though the truck isn't located in the best part of Stamford, but hey! It's opposite from a strip club! and there's a small grass field nearby with a few benches that you can sit and enjoy your tacos. I usually eat tacos in my car when it's cold out. So last night, we had El Charrito again. This time I ordered the Red Mole Enchiladas. The echiladas are stuffed with a spiced, pulled chicken. (see picture) On top of the enchiladas is shredded lettuce, cheese and a sour cream type sauce. I also could not help myself from ordering another Al Pastor taco to bring for lunch today. Mexican Truck food at it's best!!! and for any insomniacs out there, if you can finish their delicious tortas, you are guaranteed to have the best sleep ever. Works better than Xanax for sure! I have eaten from here several times where folks from work have brought food from here and only twice have I gone there in person. It's not the easiest to locate as you always find yourself on the other side of the park. There is usually a line at the truck and it may take a while for your order to be ready. As for the food, yes it can be a bit greasy, but who is complaining when the Tortas are mouth watering and once you sink your teeth in, it is very difficult to stop. Highly recommended! read more

This is probably my favorite mexican food restaurant in all of Stamford. Casa Villa is a close second, but I love the menu and quality of the food served at El Charrito. My husband and his work team order lunch from here every Tuesday afternoon and every now and then he'll bring something home for me. My favorite menu item is the lengua taco. I love to eat it with plenty of spicy sauce! The adobada is a close second and I have also had the torta azteca, which is delicious. The only menu item that I really wish that they would serve is mondongo (tripe soup)! There's nothing quite like a big bowl of mondongo on a super cold night...Hopefully they will add this to their menu, but in the interim I'll continue to order that elsewhere! As a note: They recently opened a brick-and-mortar location on East Main St., which is right near my house so I anticipate an increase in late-night taco runs! read more

I was bored today so I decided to try to go out and find good foods in Stamford. I read the reviews about El Charrito and they're all pretty much positive so I gave it a go. I went to their new location (not the truck - which was a good idea because apparently the truck wasn't even available they said). Their "brick" location is in a very odd area .. seemed all residential lol so I kept thinking I might be going the wrong way .. but nope found it. just a couple chairs by the entrance so def. a place for just purely take-out. Their menu is quite vast, but it definitely overwhelmed a newcomer. I had the assumption that they're still getting situated at their new location so I won't be that picky. They had menu print outs as visuals but they didn't have prices on them which was weird and kind of awkward for me to keep asking how much did this special costs ect. But she kept reminding me and another customer that their new menu will arrive next week so I guess this is temp. Food: They had some chips samples near their cash reg, and I gave it a try and they were really good! I wasn't too hungry tonight so I just ordered three tacos (2 carnitas and a spicy pork - I should have just ordered 4 though, because you get a free orange glass bottled soda!) I really enjoyed the carnitas; even though all three tacos were pork, the carnitas were much better than the regular spicy pork just because it was soft in meat and had a few nice chunks of fat while the regular spicy pork taco was a bit dry..and I didn't enjoy the seasoning that much. The tacos came with this .....dark chipotle-esque sauce? It was a really good bold sauce to go with the tacos though. Service: They are so friendly and homey like ... the wife owner kept encouraging me to ask questions if I'm confused with anything .. (obviously I must have looked very lost and couldn't make up my mind..) but because she said that, it didn't make me feel so awkward. The food was fast and prepared on the spot which makes me think its fresh even though it was prepared fast. They were also helping this mom with her kid, and they ordered three specials from the menu and asked an intense amount of questions but the wife owner was very patient and explained to them what was what which I thought was very nice and helpful (since I'm standing there listening too). 1 star minus for me because they have a $20 min, delivery and a $15 credit card min. It took me quite a journey to go find a chase atm just so I can buy from this place and all I wanted were simple amazing tacos.. I got amazing tacos, but it wasn't simple to get. Me, a Truck and rain. Loved just stepping up, listening to the person in front of me ordering in Spanish and me getting nervous when it's my turn. The woman at the truck totally saw the nervousness on my face and said "hi, what can I get for you". In English. I ordered, waited (in a car, not rain) in the car for about the 20 minute she told me to and I was pleasantly surprised when I returned back to the car from getting my lunch burrito. You can't miss the Taco Truck of Mexican food as people line up in the freezing cold to order artery clogging spicy and savory Mexican food. So it should go without saying that if I am within a 20-mile radius of El Charrito during lunch, I'm going to have to stop for a taco or two. One of their signature tacos, the carnitas, are moist and flavorful. this taco is the perfect marriage of salt, crunch and acid, the combination of salty slow-cooked pork, crunchy raw onion and freshly chopped cilantro and lime piled into two soft tortilla shells. The daily menu includes Mexican style tacos including tripa, carnitas (pork), lengua (cow tongue), al pastor (pork with pineapple), carne adobada (spicy pork), cesina (salty steak), chorizo, campechano, bistek, and chicken. If you're not in the mood for a taco, there are Mexican burgers, quesadillas, burritos, and tortas on the daily menu as well as daily specials. In recent weeks the specials included a enchiladas en mole rojo, fish tacos, and menudo soup. More than enough reason to make this a weekly pilgrimage. But perhaps the most important part of the El Charrito equation are the owners, Carlos and Alex Terron. If Carlos is the talent behind the delicious food, Alex is the soul of the operation. This hard-working and good-natured couple have been working seemingly non-stop for the past three years on their dream of owning their own restaurant. I can't even tell you how much I love this place! The food is out of this world. As one of my old girlfriends used to say about food that she loved, "it's 'inappropriate noise' good." I am tired of going to "Mexican" restaurants and getting TexMex... El Charrito is like a breath of fresh, lime filled, air. I have to mention that while the food is amazing, so are the people. I am always greeted with a big, warm smile, and, even my first time approaching this yellow truck of tastiness, I felt like I was speaking to an ol' friend. As good as it gets for a food truck. My favorite food truck & favorite tacos in the US. Second favorite tacos is in Chicago, IL- Big Star... but still doesn't compare. I didn't like Mexican food until I tried El Charrito taco truck. Power play for me is to get 1 pork taco and 1 beef brisket taco. So authentic. Juicy pieces with some crispiness on its outside. Just the right spices. I also didn't like cilantro that much before this and I like it a lot more cause of this place. They cover your tacos in cilanto and onions, which is why I was surprised that I liked it so much. I always get the mild and hot sauce... the hot sauce is soooo spicy so I use mostly mild and a little bit of hot. For those of you who like spicy, get it! Perfectly marinated brisket with fresh cilantro,onions, and lime. Nom nom nom nom nom. I also indulged in the carnitas which were even better than the brisket but that's my preference I think. The hype is legitimate, this place is certainly clutch, especially by East Coast standards, on which scale its pretty much straight up great. The line is usually pretty saturated with hard working latin laborerer types, which should be a good indication of the quality, as well as its seriously fair pricing, and the authentic grub whipped up here, all of which is exceptionally prepared. I have had the delicious Sweet & Sour Torta for lunch twice in the same week recently while working out of the area, its just that damn good. Ive feasted on the breakfast tacos and loved them, but be forewarned; they are delicious, but serious gut bombs, the type of breakfast that can keep you moving slow well into the afternoon. There are benches you can use to eat at, we however ate in the car. This is as good as Mexican Food gets. Chef is a genius who can whip up amazing concoctions on the fly from just about any combination of ingredients. Wife is a sweetie who will expertly guide you through the menu and make recommendations. Start off with the huaraches and you will be hooked for life! We are now permanently in Florida, but I still dream about the huge bag of goodies I would regularly bring back from Stanford to my freezer.
