Despite growing up and living in the LA area for 10 years more than El Cid has been in existence, and knowing exactly where it is located -- having driven past it dozens of times -- 2/7/26 was my first time here. My wife found a Groupon special and we celebrated our 24th wedding anniversary here. It was an excellent choice! It's a great date-night experience, but not inexpensive . . . the regular price is $85 per person, plus beverage cost (mixed drinks are $16-$19, beers are $9-$10), so things can add up pretty quickly. After navigating traffic to get here, we were blessed to find a parking space directly across the street on Sunset at exactly 5:45 pm, although this is about 1/4 mile in either direction to the nearest crosswalk. So we carefully crossed mid-block, thankful for a couple of drivers who stopped on the east-bound side to let us finish our trek. Entering the restaurant, you have to travel down several sets of steps, so this is not an easy place for those who are physically challenged. Additionally, the handrails are rather low (I'm 5'9") which is yet another challenge. Once downstairs, there is one step up to the dining area and, dimly lit, it's easy to forget it's there when you leave, and several folks stumbled on the way out (but none actually fell). The dining area is intimate . . . with seating for only about 100 persons, and all seats have a pretty good view of the stage where the flamenco performance takes place. Not a good idea to try your luck and hope there are seats available if you haven't made a reservation. (Note that making reservations can be a little tricky. It doesn't seem like anyone answers the phone live, but they do respond to voice messages and are very pleasant to speak with over the phone). Shortly after being seated, we were served a bowl of vegetable lentil soup which was hot and tasty. Not long after that, our arugala salads were served. The citrus vinaigrette dressing was excellent, although we both agreed that we were disappointed that wasn't more salad on the plate -- there were two slices of fresh orange and a snip of apple underneath the arugala. We both ordered the salmon entree, and it was delicious! A generous 6 ounce (skin on) portion that was hot and perfectly finished. It rested on a small portion of lentils and the plate was decorated with what appeared to be a couple tablespoons of a Green Goddess type of sauce. The paella for two looked good, but mussels just aren't one of my "things." Dessert choices were churros with chocolate sauce, flan, or chia seed pudding. My wife chose the flan, and I had the chia seed pudding. Both were great, not overly sweet, and just the right portions. The hour-long flamenc show started exactly at 7pm and we were captivated by the dancers, the guitarist, and vocalist. These were not "spring chickens" and their routines were physically demanding. It was a delightful experience, and we would recommend it to anyone. The Groupon savings was significant, so look for it before making reservations.

Salad included in the experience, it was absolutely delicious. So good

I went to El Cid to attend the Uncabaret comedy show on a Friday night, so not sure I had the typical experience. There seem to be several areas, both inside and out, and it seemed like a very cool place. We were in a room downstairs, which incidentally is reached by a rather treacherous stairway where the railing is about knee height. I'm kind of klutzy, and I was a bit nervous! We had time for food & drink before the show began. We had the chips & guacamole, which was good and the charcuterie platter which had a very generous amount of cheese & salami. Friends had the fish tacos and enjoyed them. The wine choices were limited, and not recommended by others at my table. I had a spicy margarita, which didn't seem to have much alcohol in it at all. So not a place for drinks! The service was friendly, food came out quickly and the atmosphere is cool. The comedy show was terrific!

Came for the dancing and had a beautiful time! We rideshared so idk about parking. The restaurant is beautiful at night with indoor/outdoor spaces, fireplaces, and mood lighting. Service was quick and they paced the meals with the show. Our server was kind. Food and drinks were only okay, but we read the reviews before and expected that. Still a cool experience or date night!

Can I use a Groupon gift where the "promotional value" has expired? The certificate says the purchase value never expires. Please let me know here.

I keep calling to make reservations, unfortunately the website is not taking reservations ? Any suggestions on how to make a reservation?

Hello there! You are welcome to make reservations for our Saturday night Flamenco show directly on our website. www.elcidsunset.com…

How many restrooms/restroom stalls are there for women?

    3 stalls

How much is Flamenco dinner and performance ? Per person. I saw something like $65 per person. Is it true?

I just went, and it was $65/person.

Is El Cid not doing breakfast anymore?? Where am I supposed to get chilaquiles :(

Is it possible to make a Flamenco reservation for 1 person only?

    Is it wheelchair accessible?

The patio is not. The entry off Sunset Blvd has multiple flights of uneven concrete stairs. I hear the theater can be accessed by wheelchair off Myra Ave, but didn't see it for myself

For the events you guys host can we buy tickets at the door or online on your website?

Flamenco show requires reservations (phone or online at the website.) Other shows, check the website for Upcoming Events, and many shows will be booked via Dice.FM but will not include dinner reservations as everything else will be open seating on…

Is there a parking lot or valet parking at this restaurant? Thank you!

Regular times on busy Friday/Saturday nights - they ran a valet off of the Sunset entrance and parked them in the private lot below Sunset off of Myra Ave. These days (COVID) it's almost all regular street parking unless you're booking a large…

    Is there a dress code?

    No. Just come in casual

    Are minors allowed?

Yes..it's a restaurant. They are probably not allowed to sit at the bar area though. Some special events like club nights, etc may not allow minors. It's more of a romantic setting so I'd still say leave the kids at home.

Is it required to order a dinner package during flamenco night, or can a la carte be ordered from the menu?

I noticed it said there's a El Rey package. What is it? Do they offer different packages too?

There are few different packages, depending on the food choices. Hope this helps

Is this venue 21+ for concerts?

I believe so as they check ID's at the door

    Is there parking available?

Yes, there is valet and some street parking.

Is this also a theatre venue?

    Yes, inside.

Unacceptable: Racism, verbal abuse, and physical aggression from staff…read more I had a terrible and completely unacceptable experience at Candela La Brea. Due to an Uber address mix-up, we ended up at this location by mistake. Upon arriving near closing time, we just asked if we could come in for a drink as we believed this was a bar: After being told it was a private event, I calmly tried to explain our Uber mistake. Instead of handling the situation professionally, a female staff member completely lost her temper. She started screaming at us, talked to us terribly, and physically aggressed us and telling us to go away. Given the unprovoked hostility and the way she treated us, I strongly believe her behavior was racially motivated because we are not from America. She tried to physically attack us. Her actions were so completely out of line and unwarranted that even several guests from the private event came over to apologize to us for her deplorable conduct. No one should ever be subjected to discrimination, verbal abuse, or violence over a simple misunderstanding. I highly advise avoiding this place, customer service, safety, and basic respect are completely nonexistent here. To make matters worse, I didn't even say a word to provoke her, she completely misdirected her anger at us just because of other people standing nearby. Being targeted, screamed at, and pushed when you haven't done or said a single thing is completely unhinged. She literally screamed right in our faces: "Hell no! Get the fuck out of here!"
