ROZY @ LA Harvard& Stone Really nice venue for music and drinks. My wife and I enjoyed a band called ROZY from Houston, Texas. They were a bad ass rock band and the sound quality was great. I wish the sound manager would have let them go a little bit longer but I think they only get about 30mins to play. I would have stayed to watch them all night. The bar tender was excellent and I tipped him well because of that. The crowd is diverse and comfortable for all ages. The ambiance is a good vibe! I recommend this place if you're looking for a very relaxed chill evening with friends for drink and music. Tip the bar tender he's a real cool guy! Sorry I didn't catch his name. Right from the start, trying to find parking is hell. Flyer for the show we were going to unfortunately said a time that was earlier than the place opened (?), which was supposed to be 9. Here on Yelp, it says 9. We got there at 9. Nope, not open and guy was grumpy about it but were let in anyways because the band knew us. It's hard to explain this place. It's like they want to be a fancy dive. I like one or the other. I like to pay cash. They don't take cash. They charged me one price for my gin & tonic, and then a different price for the same drink when my friend went to get one. "Well gin & tonic", so no, we didn't order a brand. The drinks were weak and the tonic was flat. I can live with weak drinks but flat tonic at a bar is just wrong. The sound system is okay. The stage lighting was weird and even blinded one of the band members a couple of times. I won't be going back and I have a feeling the owners would say that would make them happy. Was there to listen to a band that rocked the stage, went over to buy a drink, I asked for a coconut daiquiri -- bartender (male, white, seemingly 50s) told me not to "never order from the menu", so I asked "what's the sweetest cocktail you have" cause I don't know what he has to offer in this bar! He scoffed and said "don't ask me that, I don't know what kind of sweetness you like, just order what you like and know". I ordered "what I knew". I'm not an experienced drinker, but I'm open to try new sweet cocktails. This bartender has a condescending attitude I've ever met. I'm a stranger who is only trying to see what's available on his "invisible menu" since I'm now allowed to go off the menu they listed. Unfortunately, the interaction felt more like a display of superiority than service. Perhaps the gentleman could be more open minded to recommend me a few drinks that I could explore on rather than shut me down to "stick to what I know" and maybe don't display a menu that folks aren't allowed to? My partner who was a bartender said I shouldn't have tipped him at all. He's been on the receiving side of how tough a bartender job can be but also exposed to how crappy a bartender can behave. And this bartender was definitely a bad egg. I should've asked for the other bartender who a younger looking gentleman. He was attentive and checked if I was being served. I would've tipped him $30 for his service instead. I would come back for the bands but never order from that bartender again. read more

Last Wednesday my Daughter played at Harvard & Stone. It felt like entering a honkytonk in Nashville; Filled with history and reminiscent of Douglas Corner or the Bluebird. You know, where you feel the energy of years of blood, sweat & tears that goes into doing music. The service was great. The drinks were made with care and the sound man as well as host did a wonderful job. There's even a pool table. Make an effort to visit this establishment if you're visiting LA or if you're a regular to some great nightlife. Check out their schedule for two stepping and who's playing. It's a bit raw, and the acoustics are much much better in some parts of the room than others, but the drinks are strong, talent booking is solid, and people are generally there to listen to music, rather than talking over the band. It can get really loud, so if you're sensitive, you'll want to bring ear plugs. Be prepared to wait a minute your drinks. The bartenders work with a bit of hustle, but it's a relatively small surface area that can get two deep quickly if the place is rocking. read more

Honestly, this would have been a 2.5 star review a decade ago. Harvard and Stone was once a pretentious, groupie venue with rude doormen and a moronic dress code, which didn't match its overall grunge-vibe. Nevertheless, it seems 2024 Harvard and Stone now allows folks (men) to come inside in shorts if they please, which is refreshing for those hot summer days. That aside, it's a fun spot that caters to aspiring, indie musicians, their fans, and general music aficionados. I went to see my friend Gregg Garvey play, and I had a blast. The bartender has a strong pouring-hand, which is very much appreciated from a light-weight like myself who only needs one drink to be set for the night. Glad Harvard and Stone is still around now that it's loosened its absurd dress code and hired friendlier staff. I'll gladly go back any given night to see a band play. read more

This place has such a great vibe. The bartender, Katie, was wonderful and incredibly kind. There was nothing negative to say about the staff. Even the man at the door, Clay, was a sweet guy. The drinks are nothing crazy or special, but it's just a regular, cool bar with a nice crowd. It's not all the frills and awakrdness that LA usually has. The second of the 2 stars is only because it is within walking distance to my apartment. There is something wildly shady and uncomfortable about this bar. I can't totally put my finger on it so please, this review may be a IYKYK situation. First, this bar is on Hollywood Blvd, with nothing else around it but a strip bar. Upon entry, it seems as though it is a neighborhood hangout. This part of East Hollywood doesn't really have much outside of restaurants. While there may be some people in the room that have been there consistently, there are no "regulars". I do know they that serve as a venue for artists to perform live, which is awesome as that whole industry isn't as thriving as it was. The problem is, they don't cater to the nights when nothing is happening. I went in on this Sunday before a holiday kinda expecting a good crowd and general silliness. There was no one, and I paid $9.50 (without tip) for a Modelo can. They may argue that it was a Modelo "Especial". but c'mon. A single can of beer? I had taken a break from going for a few months because of the inconsistency of my tab (I have 1-3 drinks max, no shots, no rounds for groups), my bill was never even close to being the same. I became friendly with a couple bartenders and I learned through the grapevine "never start a tab, always order and close". I thought that was wild because I never carry cash so it seems like a wild inconvenience to the bartender in my opinion. They also don't carry or accept cash. Lots of red flags at this place, which is a bummer because its an awesome space. Also, this urinal has been broken for at least a year. I know this because I moved to my current apartment a year ago....also, No prices are listed.....anywhere. If you are coming to see a show or a band, I would say, drink beforehand. You're wasting your money on staff that very clearly has no interest in being there, the bar is falling apart, and there is absolutely something so shady and dishonest happening behind the scenes. Harvard & Stone is one of those classic LA edgy, grunge bars where the live music and energy is always equally entertaining. I've been coming here for several years and recently celebrated my 30th birthday here with about 25 people. The bar manager Adam was punctual with response time, flexible and really wonderful to work with. I booked the balcony about a month in advance where there is a private pool table that overlooks the entire bar and main stage. It was epic. Been to every bar and club, industry party and backyard bash. Know this, Harvard & Stone is the best Hollywood has to offer. Prices are right. The decor is industrial and cool without trying by hanging disingenuous art they don't actually like but this patrons will. Let me start by saying ALL bartenders, and overall vibe of this bar are amazing. Great venue... BUT as far as upkeep.... It feels like the owners don't give a sh**. Men's bathroom hasn't been fixed in almost 3 weeks,they have a tap system that's been broken for forever... Sad since there's so many great artists and DJ'S that would love to perform here. Don't go here when there are so many other bars with bands playing that do not charge this ridiculous cover charge to see a few mediocre local bands. As an LA native, I've been to a lot of venues of all sizes. When we arrived they ask for a cover at the door...ok, how much? The girl tells us to scan the QR Code and pay, ok. We scan and it's a $20 cover!! Not just that, but you also have to pay an additional $5 " convenience fee"!!! What convenience??? We're literally at the door in person!! After you scan, the site requires you to either login with your Facebook account or create an account and login. Kind of a lot of work just to pay an Way over priced cover fee. Seems like they should be paying us instead to go into their establishment Normally, I would've turned right around and gone home. But we went to support one of the bands, and they were expecting us Once in, there is very limited amount of seating, where you can actually see the band that is playing. I asked the bartender if I could take one of the barstools on the far side of the bar and move it to the other side of the bar so that we could see the band and she said no they don't like to put any barstools there because that's where all the people stand to watch the bands. But on this weeknight, each band only had a handful of supporters filling up the three or four tables available. So for $25 you can't move a bar stool or see the band. And the drinks were expensive in this dive. As for the bands, I am guessing that the bar tells them how long they can play. The two bands we stuck around to see each only played about five songs. So we went to see 1 band and paid $25 to see them play 5 songs! The mixing, for each band was terrible. We could never make out what the lead singer was saying or singing it was completely muffled for $25 That's what you get? We had seen one of the bands before in a different venue where they sounded much better, because the mixing was actually done. Go to Maui Sugar Mill in Tarzana just to name 1 - it's Free AND the bands are mixed correctly and they play quite a few songs for free!! Guess that's why they attract bands like Chevy Metal. One of my favorite bars in the area! We love to come here whenever we have the time and energy to enjoy a fun-filled night! We usually grab a cocktail at the main bar and head to the back room to enjoy a little more of an intimate environment. The interior is dark and moody, and they have some couches and tables if you're in the mood to sit. Most of the time, we just walk around. It's a dive, it is what is. I can deal with dives, but the bartenders there are super shady. Went there last night for a friend's birthday party, ordered a beer and an old-fashioned. Bartender told be the old-fashioned was $15 and the beer was $8. I gave the guy $30. I was waiting for a while for my change. When I finally said something, the bartender gave me $2 back and pocketed the rest of my change. I probably would have given him the tip anyhow, but the fact that he made that decision for me was pretty fucked up. I would have gotten more drinks and the dude might have gotten more in tips, but after that I was pretty turned off by the whole thing, finished my drink with my homies, and bounced. read more

Went here on a Tuesday with my friend just as a last minute decision. What a cool looking place with an awesome vibe. That night they have two rock bands (I am not a huge rock fan), and they were really awesome. The place was full and people were dressed like in the 80s:D, it was just a fun place to be in. This was my favorite bar of the night. It had everything--darkness, vibrant packed crowd, great music, and endless drinks. The bartenders were fun and attentive. The dj knew what she was doing. Even the bouncer was personable and funny. We rocked out. So many great songs played, you know the ones you scream to at the top of your lungs but don't really hear yourself. At one point they even had a live band with guitars and drums play on their little stage. That was really to just introduce these two table top dancers who climbed on top of the bar, almost like monkeys hanging off of trees. It was completely random and cool and hilarious. There's a tiny outdoor area with another smaller bar. Room for smoking, getting some air without leaving and just bumping into other people. You can hear the music just as loudly too. Always looking for a new spot for a drink. Didn't expect to see a spot like this in Thai Town. Old school decor, live music, and dance performances on the hour, and a great selection of whiskeys. I tried the Baby's First Bourbon which is somewhat their signature drink. It was so so.. Too much of a juice drink. Got to drink quite a bit of different whiskeys: Bulleit Bourbon, Bulleit Rye, Four Roses, Whistlepig, and a 23 year Pappy Van Winkle. It's hard to go back to a middle of the road whiskey once you've had a 23 year bourbon. Smooth as hell... Cool vibe, chill bartenders (thanks to Nathan who hooked us up), nice crowd.
