I ordered the steak and shrimp tacos al a carte...the tacos lacked flavor a bit compared to some of my favorite taquerias but the charro beans and grilled jalapeños were excellent! With all the negative reviews I was skeptical but this place is OK. The 18% gratuity is for parties over 6. That's NORMAl. I can't say nothing bad about this place. Food was good. I ordered a beef burrito (normally I'd have steak burrito at any Mexican restaurant) So here is my negative review. The burrito was so horrible I ate it all. Wanted to lick the plate clean but I didn't want people to look at me funny. And when my glass of soda was empty the waiter refilled it for me the nerve of him I swear. Probably the best Coctel de Camarones I've had in a dozen years! An enormous portion of shrimp in a perfectly blended broth of tomato and lime, flavored with cilantro and onion. The ripe slices of avocado melted to mix to create a delicious concoction that only needed a dash of pepper sauce to set the whole combination over the top. The Beef Taco Salad was nicely seasoned and arrived in a crispy tortilla bowl that was tastier than the bagged chips served with their gringo salsa. Between the late 19th century decor, lack of anything resembling an atmosphere, forgettable food (the salsa and Pico were flavorless and nothing looked fresh) and the poor service, it's hard to find anything positive to say. We had an event in town and nowhere took reservations. We walked in with 15 people, prepared to wait. They seemed happy to have us and sat us about 5 minutes later. Our server was friendly and quick!! Our drinks were delivered quickly and kept full. All of our dishes were quick, accurate, and tasted fantastic. I'm updating my previous review due to recent events. This restaurant recently posted everyone must leave 18%-20% tips regardless. We like to pick up our orders and now fee"obligated" following prompted electronic checkout procedure to give 20%. We always tip well and expect this when dinning in but not on pickup. This place is a great find in the middle of my trip passing through from Indy to points north. I've had lunch here several times and it has always been an excellent experience. The food is very flavorful and the salsa is fresh and tasty with a little heat. Interesting and unique flavor twists keep this restaurant fresh and enjoyable. Today I had the veggie fajita taco salad. The sauted vegetables included onions, peppers, broccoli, carrots which were very nicely seasoned. The broccoli especially was delicious. The lettuce and tomatos were fresh and tasty. I always enjoy the rice here, again the unique flavor and added ingredients set it apart from the rice found in most Mexican restaurants. Service is friendly and attentive. Prices are reasonable and lunch specials are cheap. Mucho comida for poco dinero. The chicken tortilla soup always looks amazing. I don't eat meat but it is very popular, it seems that at least one person at every table orders it. I actually ate lunch here two days in a row this week. Traveling through Rochester with a coworker I introduced her to this place and then on our return trip the following day she suggested we return. Now she plans to be a regular here. read more

Do not go on a busy night. Just order to go. Good food but that is it. Had to remind waiter of drink orders. Since he was missing 3 of the 5 we had. Then had to wait for food order for my youngest. Once we got our food the waiter did not return. After being there for over an hour and a half. We got up AND went to the register to pay because the waiter would not give us our check. I came to this restaurant with my boyfriend. He ordered the pollo supremo and a quesadilla de pollo. I ordered the carne asada. He liked his meal and had enough leftovers to take home. The steak I had was quite juicy, tender, and very well-seasoned. However, the guacamole was actually bland. This is coming from a person who absolutely loves avocados. There just was no flavor to them. On the menu it indicates they have horchata. The problem was that they did not have horchata available. I was a bit bummed about that. Not the end of the world though. I ended up ordering an orange soft drink. The plastic cups they serve the drinks in are pretty big. Our waiter was pretty friendly and paid attention to our needs. There were some guests celebrating their birthday there. They certainly put on a good show by playing instruments and singing Happy Birthday. I enjoyed my experience here after stumbling upon it. The parking lot was full which indicated a favorite local spot. The atmosphere was relaxed, service wasn't the greatest at the bar and the food was okay- not stellar. I had steak fajitas which weren't terribly flavorful or memorable. The beer was semi-cold and the mugs weren't as frosty as I prefer. My recommendations are to step up responsiveness (servers were polite), turn up the cooler temp for your beer mugs and FIND the spice jars! Except the cilantro. We stopped here over the weekend while staying in the area visiting family. The food was plentiful and we received our chips and salsa quickly. After ordering, our meals also came out quickly, but after that...forget it! We sat for quite some time before being asked if we needed the check or a doggie bag. Being a transplant from Texas, I was missing TexMex food. These guys do a pretty good job in my opinion (better than about half the places in Austin right now). We've been there four times and I've enjoyed everything I've tried. We like them enough that we took my parents to eat there when they came to visit. My dad can be very picky about Mexican food (he's been in Texas for 60 years) and he had a fish dish (Tilapia, I believe) and he said it was good. We'll be back! It was really the only reason I came After I get done eating half my meal I tell the server I'm ready for dessert and he informed me they didn't have any ice cream. This was a pleasant surprise! We stopped here on a trip from Indy to Michigan City, just because it was close to the highway and we were hungry. Between us, we had several versions of the fajitas as well as a tostada, and all were good. Plenty of free chips and a good mild salsa.
