Well I just stumbled into this restaurant by chance on Saturday this last week. I went to go check out the Farmers Market but I saw a stream of people bypassing the farmers market and going directly into this restaurant so it peaked my curiosity. Plus I needed to use the restroom and I was unfamiliar with any outdoor restrooms that might be available at the Farmers Market so I went inside prepared to sample the menu if needed so that I may use the bathroom respectfully. I talked to the will be at the cash register and asked about the bathroom and she said it was for customers only and I said that's not a problem cuz I was definitely going to order something. When I got out I waited to be seated at a table. I asked if they had chips and salsa but she told me that there was a charge for that and I said okay well I'm hoping that this is good food cuz I am on the hunt for my favorite little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant! And boy they did not disappoint! I kind of have this thing where I judge the quality of a Mexican restaurant by their chili relleno so I had a side chili relleno and oh gosh words can't even describe how wonderful it was! It's been my experience that all chile rellenos come with a different sauce. This sauce was so spectacular. I like to try to recreate certain dishes that I encounter while I'm out in the community eating but this one I don't think I could have recreated! The flavors I can only describe as traditional! Now I don't think McCormick or Lowery's or any other big seasoning company has a seasoning called traditional! I could just taste the tradition being passed on generationally in that beautiful chile relleno sauce! I will definitely be back to visit the service was great by the two waiters I had. I can't wait to see them again!

    Tim is happy.

The best burrito , but beyond that, it's beautiful. The art on the walls, hanging from the ceiling in the dishwater. Everything is colorful and gorgeous. Loved being in the space enjoying ice cold horchata .

El Colibrí is true definition of "Mom and Pops" hole in the wall in Salinas. This place offers different options compared to all your other Mexican, Oaxacan, Salvadoran, etc. restaurants in Salinas. They have some of the best rice and beans, and their chile relleno is probably the best I've ever had. Everything is made with so much love and time, and their customer service is always exceptional. I recommend this place to everyone! I love coming here.

I love the vibrant colors of this mural.

I am so glad I visited this restaurant. Upon entering I really loved the large and vibrant mural on the wall - such great colors! I ordered a beer battered cod fish taco and chef's chicken salad. Both were very good, next time I'd order the olive oil and vinegar dressing instead of the Italian though. The fish taco had the right blend of savory flavor, citrus tang, and crunch from the cabbage. The service was nice and welcoming as well. I hope to be back when in town.

Vegetarian burrito with chips and salsa.

Their food is very high quality, and I always try to eat here when I'm in town. They make a unique vegetarian burrito that is the best I've ever had. Highly recommend!

My new place! I've heard about El Colibri and it really was all that was said here. We ate outside for lunch in this perfect Salinas summer weather (73 degrees). The food was really really excellent and based on the owner's family traditions. We had Mexican food but they have plenty of choices on the menu that it would impress anyone. Beautiful service and what a perfect place for lunch with a friend. I had a "wet burrito" and i used to make fun of people who ordered that. It was so indulgent! My friend had the chicken mole which was an original.

Buffalo hot wings, birria plate with beans and spanish rice, flour tortillas, and the fixins!

New year, new name. El Colibri Restaurant and Deli. It is still run by the same family take took over Gordon's Cafe and they have improved the menu with more traditional Mexican favorites and some Blue Zone inspired dishes. Service it sit down or to-go. They also have a beer & wine. It still has a uniquely local charm inside and one of the few places that has a permanent outdoor patio. Today's menu was local coffee with hints of cinnamon and the green chilaquiles with rice and beans. A hearty dish to keep me going today.

    Carnitas burrito

went for lunch today with my sister and omg I had the chili verde plate and it was so delicious very flavorful went perfectly with a mojito, my sister had the carnitas wet burrito and also loved it ! definitely will recommend and try again. the restaurant had beautiful murals and the service was great Thank you gloria & Martha

The carne asada torta on ciabatta bun. It was bomb.com- delicious!

Friend and I shared a torta and calamari. My friend REALLY enjoyed the calamari. It had a yummy lemon, garlic and parsley taste to it and it was delicious! The torta de asada was a whole piece on a ciabatta bun and it was sooooo amazing! Nice and fluffy and tasty! It came with fries which was a nice touch. The decor was Uber cutesy! We took all the pics for the gram and the best part, it's family/woman owned by a local. We love to supper mom and pop places! This is a great place! We really enjoyed it! My friends who lives nearby said she found her new favorite restaurant! We'll def be back!

The fried green beans are awesome. Stoked they had a cheese flat bread for the 5yo. Burgers were delicious. Nothing was super greasy it was very well balanced. Its not "bar food". Its a legit restaurant. I had the street tacos which were flavorful and I preferred the carne asada for once because its all meat no fat. Lots of chicken wing flavor options too so my girls were happy. Calisqueeze on tap topped my meal! The only down was that the restrooms were more local bar vibe restrooms but it is what it is. Its a local bar too! Thanks for a great meal on our road trip.

We were very impressed as 15 years ago the downtown was not a place to visit. Now it is. We like these "neighborhood" kind of restaurants/bars. Like the French Brassiere concept, but not as fancy, Dubber's is a place to sit, drink, chat with friends, get a bite to eat and pay a reasonable price for the occasion. Decent menu. We were driving so no booze. Old Town Burger ($15) with onion rings for $2. Wife did fried green beans (!) at $12 and we had iced tea and sodas at $3.75 each. Lots of photos and memorabilia on the walls and there were a lot of sports items, so owners must be into some teams. Very clean. Friendly wait staff, we had Karen K., and service was prompt and food accurate. An excellent stopping point if driving through the Salinas, the Garden Bowl of the Country. Only an hour south of San Fransisco.

Road travel can be challenging enough, and being treated like only a number isn't satisfying. Dear Hubby and I stopped by on a Friday evening during the long drive from Southern California to the Bay Area. He was hungrier than I was, and I struggled to find something on the lighter side that was still tasty. I had decided on the albacore tuna sandwich and splitting a side of onion rings with DH. Then the drama with the kiosk ordering system began. Onion rings weren't coming up as a choice at all. The kitchen staff (including whoever was suppose to be available to run the regular register in case someone wants to pay with cash or has questions) were all busy, busy doing their things. Their backs were to their customers, which became annoying and rude. I DID have questions, and the kiosk wasn't allowing me to order what I wanted to order. I ended up telling DH what I wanted and gave up to go to the car as I'd forgotten something in there. When I came back he was waiting to fill up our drink cups. He gave me the table number card and I found a table. He said that he did get to speak with a human after all after I'd gone outside. Surprise, surprise! When the food came, my sandwich, while tasty, was super sloppy with too much sauce. I had a hard time eating it without risking wearing part of the 'wich on my clothes. It was an unsatisfying experience on many levels. I don't blame this store, per se - I realize that it's a decision foist on them by management up the food chain. I've always respected the Habit Burger chain, but that feeling took a big hit with the fiasco at the Salinas location. I didn't feel welcome or appreciated. Removing the human connection is a big mistake for any business that requires building customer loyalty. Saving a few bucks on a real worker by installing an ordering kiosk that's not smart is not good business, in my humble opinion. I would not plan to return to this location, and will not have Habit as a top choice for dining out any time soon at other locations.

A couple of friends and me took the opportunity to stop by on our drive back to LA from the Bay Area (along the 101). First impression: one of those convivial breweries with a thriving locals aspect and vibe. Friends I was with are really into craft beer, so we felt right at home. The folks here were super friendly and welcoming. As a matter of fact, there were some cookies made from another regular that was offered to us while we were there. And those cookies were delish. They have a good variety of styles on draft, but I opted for the BA Barleywine, which was excellent. They also had the football games playing on the TV there so there was that sports bar aspect without being to crowded/ crazy. This place is located in an industrial area of Salinas. We didn't have a problem at all finding parking. Love their beers and love this spot. I would definitely hit it up more if I was able.
