Well I just stumbled into this restaurant by chance on Saturday this last week. I went to go check out the Farmers Market but I saw a stream of people bypassing the farmers market and going directly into this restaurant so it peaked my curiosity. Plus I needed to use the restroom and I was unfamiliar with any outdoor restrooms that might be available at the Farmers Market so I went inside prepared to sample the menu if needed so that I may use the bathroom respectfully. I talked to the will be at the cash register and asked about the bathroom and she said it was for customers only and I said that's not a problem cuz I was definitely going to order something. When I got out I waited to be seated at a table. I asked if they had chips and salsa but she told me that there was a charge for that and I said okay well I'm hoping that this is good food cuz I am on the hunt for my favorite little hole in the wall Mexican restaurant! And boy they did not disappoint! I kind of have this thing where I judge the quality of a Mexican restaurant by their chili relleno so I had a side chili relleno and oh gosh words can't even describe how wonderful it was! It's been my experience that all chile rellenos come with a different sauce. This sauce was so spectacular. I like to try to recreate certain dishes that I encounter while I'm out in the community eating but this one I don't think I could have recreated! The flavors I can only describe as traditional! Now I don't think McCormick or Lowery's or any other big seasoning company has a seasoning called traditional! I could just taste the tradition being passed on generationally in that beautiful chile relleno sauce! I will definitely be back to visit the service was great by the two waiters I had. A lot of people I know are regulars here and they keep reminding me about it. We order takeout from here semi-regularly and it's always good and consistent but I rarely stop in. But I think that is about to change. I was at the Farmer's Market that happens right outside this place on Saturdays and I ventured in for an iced tea. What I found was super friendly service. They said I could sit outside at the tables to enjoy my beverage - even if that was all I purchased. That was so cool of 'em that I decided to try a cheeseburger. It's a pretty good burger! We recently had a slew of cloudy, chilly rainy days in Nov. 2025 so today seemed warm and the cheeseburger had a summery char-grilled flavor, perfectly cooked and juicy. They bring everything on the side so you can choose how much you want of everything - lettuce, generous serving of sliced tomatoes and onions. I just have to remember to hold the mayo next time. Some of the outdoor seats have umbrellas and some don't so you can decide if you like shade or sun. They also have heated tables (firepits) for evening dinners. Server came and checked on me twice and when I asked for a to go cup for my tea, she filled the to go cup for me rather than just making me pour what I had left into it. We normally do takeout and they have unique Mexican options from Oaxaco that are healthy Blue Zone inspired dishes alongside the more traditional Mexican options. Plus perennial faves that carried over from the previous owner like real roasted turkey. This is a cool place with solid options to suit many tases and the best part is the super friendly service. Since I work around the corner from this restaurant, I have given them another try with their Buffalo Wings (delicious), but today, I had a hankering for a burger and decided to get just that from this restaurant. I placed my order, was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes and I went back to work. I get back 10 minutes later and it was ready to go. The owner is always there and is very nice and friendly. I got the bacon cheeseburger. It's actually not bacon, but pork belly. So decadent. The half pound burger was cooked to perfection (medium) and the seasoning on the burger was fantastic. I probably will just go with the burger (no cheese or bacon) going forward, because I don't want to risk a coronary. Seriously, top 5 burger I've ever had and best in the area. Well seasoned fries. I am so glad I visited this restaurant. Upon entering I really loved the large and vibrant mural on the wall - such great colors! I ordered a beer battered cod fish taco and chef's chicken salad. Both were very good, next time I'd order the olive oil and vinegar dressing instead of the Italian though. The fish taco had the right blend of savory flavor, citrus tang, and crunch from the cabbage. The service was nice and welcoming as well. I hope to be back when in town. read more

It is still run by the same family take took over Gordon's Cafe and they have improved the menu with more traditional Mexican favorites and some Blue Zone inspired dishes. Service it sit down or to-go. They also have a beer & wine. It still has a uniquely local charm inside and one of the few places that has a permanent outdoor patio. We had a great late lunch at El Colibri today. Nice and friendly staff. Flavorful food. Clean restaurant and bathroom. And what a beautiful mural/wall art that was commissioned by a local artist. I had the asado taco salad and my wife had 3 birria tacos. The asado was seasoned well and had a great grilled flavor. The shell was fresh and overflowing with great ingredients. I ordered added grilled jalapeños. It was a great combination of a fresh and satisfying meal. My wife had queso birria tacos. They were crispy and flavorful. The consumee had a flavor of all-spice that is a little unique, but not off putting. She enjoyed her tacos. As we are new to the area, El Colibri is a great find for flavorful Mexican and American food. I can't wait to try more dishes from this friendly downtown restaurant. Friend and I shared a torta and calamari. My friend REALLY enjoyed the calamari. It had a yummy lemon, garlic and parsley taste to it and it was delicious! The torta de asada was a whole piece on a ciabatta bun and it was sooooo amazing! Nice and fluffy and tasty! It came with fries which was a nice touch. The decor was Uber cutesy! Lunch outdoors on the first short sleeve day of the year was a joy! Their Taco Salad is not just a salad since it has rice and refried beans hidden underneath, so it make a substantial meal. I'll admit I've only been twice (I need to come back to try more dishes), but I've enjoyed both meals I've had. I try to eat plant-based and Gordon's offers dishes that don't compromise flavor. They're also a Blue Zones Project approved restaurant! All my coworkers rave about this place so I look forward to trying more dishes. Our first visit... Great food! Ample portions and well seasoned! Vegan tamale was delicious! Vegan sandwich was very tasty and they modified it to how I wanted it. Even toasted the bread without my asking. French fries were crisp and seasoned well also. My Honey had the Cubano which he loved. After two bites he said "oh I'm coming back here..." Great food at a great price! I wish I had tried this place long ago. I ordered the veggie sandwich (under$8 and was huge!) and vegan tamale (under $3) which I thought were excellent. My husband ordered the philly cheese steak sandwich, which he thought was good but different from the usual style and flavor expected from s philly cheese steak. We also ate chips and salsa, which were very tasty. Heck, even the iced tea was really good. Very friendly service and colorful, fun decor. I noticed this place while visiting salinas with a couple of vegan options. I stopped by to try their veggie sandwich. It looked good on paper. It contained all the fresh veggies, with some mayo and mustard and lightly grilled. Wish it was grilled a little more with some kind of vegan butter. Flavor wise I felt it was a little bland. Most delicious Mexican Food we've had in a while on the Peninsula. Fish tacos like we had down in La Paz, Mexico, Quesabirria, Chili Rellenos......so delicious we've been here twice in 8 days. The mole is outta this world! The family who owns this business is extremely kind and puts care into each dish. Beautiful hand painted walls welcome you inside.
