A lot of people I know are regulars here and they keep reminding me about it. We order takeout from here semi-regularly and it's always good and consistent but I rarely stop in. But I think that is about to change. I was at the Farmer's Market that happens right outside this place on Saturdays and I ventured in for an iced tea. What I found was super friendly service. They said I could sit outside at the tables to enjoy my beverage - even if that was all I purchased. That was so cool of 'em that I decided to try a cheeseburger. It's a pretty good burger! We recently had a slew of cloudy, chilly rainy days in Nov. 2025 so today seemed warm and the cheeseburger had a summery char-grilled flavor, perfectly cooked and juicy. They bring everything on the side so you can choose how much you want of everything - lettuce, generous serving of sliced tomatoes and onions. I just have to remember to hold the mayo next time. Some of the outdoor seats have umbrellas and some don't so you can decide if you like shade or sun. They also have heated tables (firepits) for evening dinners. Server came and checked on me twice and when I asked for a to go cup for my tea, she filled the to go cup for me rather than just making me pour what I had left into it. We normally do takeout and they have unique Mexican options from Oaxaco that are healthy Blue Zone inspired dishes alongside the more traditional Mexican options. Plus perennial faves that carried over from the previous owner like real roasted turkey. This is a cool place with solid options to suit many tases and the best part is the super friendly service. I placed my order, was told it would be ready in 15-20 minutes and I went back to work. I get back 10 minutes later and it was ready to go. The owner is always there and is very nice and friendly. I got the bacon cheeseburger. It's actually not bacon, but pork belly. So decadent. The half pound burger was cooked to perfection (medium) and the seasoning on the burger was fantastic. I probably will just go with the burger (no cheese or bacon) going forward, because I don't want to risk a coronary. Seriously, top 5 burger I've ever had and best in the area. Well seasoned fries. I am so glad I visited this restaurant. Upon entering I really loved the large and vibrant mural on the wall - such great colors! I ordered a beer battered cod fish taco and chef's chicken salad. Both were very good, next time I'd order the olive oil and vinegar dressing instead of the Italian though. The fish taco had the right blend of savory flavor, citrus tang, and crunch from the cabbage. The service was nice and welcoming as well. I hope to be back when in town. read more

My new place! I've heard about El Colibri and it really was all that was said here. We ate outside for lunch in this perfect Salinas summer weather (73 degrees). The food was really really excellent and based on the owner's family traditions. We had Mexican food but they have plenty of choices on the menu that it would impress anyone. We had a great late lunch at El Colibri today. Nice and friendly staff. Flavorful food. Clean restaurant and bathroom. And what a beautiful mural/wall art that was commissioned by a local artist. I had the asado taco salad and my wife had 3 birria tacos. The asado was seasoned well and had a great grilled flavor. The shell was fresh and overflowing with great ingredients. I ordered added grilled jalapeños. It was a great combination of a fresh and satisfying meal. My wife had queso birria tacos. They were crispy and flavorful. The consumee had a flavor of all-spice that is a little unique, but not off putting. She enjoyed her tacos. I'll admit I've only been twice (I need to come back to try more dishes), but I've enjoyed both meals I've had. I try to eat plant-based and Gordon's offers dishes that don't compromise flavor. They're also a Blue Zones Project approved restaurant! All my coworkers rave about this place so I look forward to trying more dishes. Great food at a great price! I wish I had tried this place long ago. I ordered the veggie sandwich (under$8 and was huge!) and vegan tamale (under $3) which I thought were excellent. My husband ordered the philly cheese steak sandwich, which he thought was good but different from the usual style and flavor expected from s philly cheese steak. We also ate chips and salsa, which were very tasty. Heck, even the iced tea was really good. Very friendly service and colorful, fun decor.
