I called in an order for pickup the night before Thanksgiving last week, and stopped in on my way home from work. I ordered the Camarones al mojo de ajo, which came with rice, beans, fries, and several corn tortillas on the side. The meal was delicious! The portions were generous, and the shrimp were drenched in a tasty garlic sauce, just how I like it! It was hot and ready in about 15 minutes. When I went in to pay, the only other customers were watching a soccer game on TV. The gal at the register was helpful and friendly. On Wednesday 5/29 I ordered 3 super burritos that had no rice, no beans no guacamole no salsa and no sour cream and I also ordered three tacos and one of the tacos had meat and my other two tacos had no meat that I ordered and it didn't came with no onion, cilantro salsa or limes and I paid 50 dollars what a rip off and when I went back to take the tacos back the owner only gaved me 6 dollars back and tried to give me a small soda I would not recommend this place they will rob you and will not take your order right I would give this place zero stars. read more

Today my mother and I decided to press our luck and try Taqueria Cortes again and I can honestly say this is one amazing restaurant that does Mexican food justice and when my mother and I received our order we were so impressed with this restaurant. The chefs here must have some amazing talent because when you eat at Taqueria Cortes the food is just like eating at your grandmother's house and once again Mom was amazed with her Caldo De Res because it was so authentic and my refried beans and rice tasted wonderful as well. I swear this restaurant is truly a secret hidden gem in Salinas that if you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant in Salinas Taqueria Cortes is a must-eat-at restaurant for anyone who likes good Mexican food. I ordered through Doordash, so I can't say much about the customer service. The food that my partner and I ordered was very bland. I ordered the chilaquiles and he got a burrito. Both items were mediocre at best and couldn't even finish the food since it was just unpleasant to eat. We were surprised by the quality of the food we got, since the place seemed to have good reviews on Google, and expected Salinas to have good Mexican food. The visit here today was an accident...a very happy accident! I was visiting a friend in the hospital down in Salinas, and then realized I hadn't eaten all day. I noticed this little place near the hospital so decided to pop in. The place was light, airy, and sparkling. The sweet Christmas tree was also very appealing. I was alone, it was Wednesday, and I ordered two fish tacos with the works, accompanied by refried beans and Mexican-style rice. The young woman who took my order was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the food and its preparation. The tacos were street style with two small soft corn tortillas each, and totally loaded with grilled white fish, tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and a fantastic dressing! The flavor was divine. The frijoles were just like in Mexico, creamy and rich. The rice was fresh, hot, fluffy, and a real treat! This little gem of a restaurant is family-owned and family-run. I think I just found my burrito-go-to place. I don't eat much mexican food around Salinas, so I'm at a loss for where to go, but some of my coworkers recommended this place today for our work lunch. I searched yelp for reviews - no luck! Nothing on the internet either! I decided to give it a try. The taqueria was able to fax us over a menu so we can see what there is to order. We appreciated the gesture! We put in our order and it was ready for pick up in 10 minutes. I asked for no beans and very little rice in my carne asada burrito - no need for extra carbs or fillers! I'm used to the SoCal versions of just all meat. My burrito still came with some beans, but it tasted good, so I'm not complaining =P The carne asada tasted really good, had a nice crisp to it too. My coworker got the carnitas burrito which she also really really liked. She said it was cooked perfectly and had good seasoning. Another coworker got the chile verde burrito. She said it was good but not as good as El Charrito. $6 for super burrito is a good deal. This place may make my weekend work lunch rotation! Note: there is a restaurant.com gift certificate for this place but when we called to double check if they took it, they said they didn't due to being under new ownership... So don't buy it.
