I ordered 2 soft tacos, they brought me 2 hard shell tacos. I didn't say anything, just shrugged and ate them- delicious. After I was done, the waiter came out and told me he realized they gave me 2 hard shell instead of soft so he gave me a free soft shell taco on the house. I have never had that happen, ever. And it was delicious. So, not only is the food and drink here amazing but they do care about their customers. I will be back. read more

I brought family from out of state here because this restaurant never disappoints. The ambiance is spot on, the food is delicious and the service is outstanding. We had a large group of 8 on a very busy weekend night and our serving staff hustled the entire time. We must've devoured 6 baskets of chips and they were always right there to replenish whatever we needed. The food is priced fairly and they didn't even automatically add gratuity for a group of 8! We also really enjoyed the very talented musicians that performed while we dined. The reason I docked a star (4/5) was due to 35 minute wait we had despite having reservations. Painful visit here last night (11/14/2022). Was told it would 20-30 minutes for a table, so we went to the bar to order drinks. Saw several people seated after me, so asked about the status, and was told 40 minutes to an hour. I asked why the times changed (I'm not mad here, no attitude) and he claims he never said 20-30 minutes. I pointed out that half the seats are available, and he responded with "it doesn't work like that here" and walked away. Went back to the bar, which is now crowded with people waiting for seats, and we paid $110 for two shots of tequila and two beers. It was so crowded, in fact, that I was told to get out of the way, so I asked if we could sit at one of the open tables and he offered to get the manager, then he walked away and didn't come back. The manager came out and told us to enjoy the bar and LAUGHED at us when I pointed out the empty seats at tables. I have been here before and I really love their food, but buyer beware, this is an evening SCAM to force people to buy overpriced drinks. I'm bummed I won't be returning here. read more

This used to be one of my favorite Mexican spots in LA, mostly due to the atmosphere. However, after my experience a couple of weeks ago, I'll never step foot in there again.I'm used to not getting treated as equally as men (especially when I'm dining alone), but this was egregious. Whatever male bartender they have typically working on Sundays, seems around mid-late 30s, if not early 40s, was one of the rudest, most dismissive people I've ever encountered. Dude clearly hates serving women, as the men sitting at the bar were being taken care of just fine. He barely acknowledged me after I sat down (took him over 10 minutes, by the way), didn't offer me a food menu, and had a weird attitude. (If you're in the service industry, and have an issue with women, maybe get another job?) I had to ask for a menu, which he practically threw at me, and had to get his attention multiple times for basic things, like, you know, a drink at a bar? Something that is his job to do? Again, I wouldn't just outright blame this on misogyny since he is a man, but the other three patrons sitting at the bar (who were men), were getting taken care of just fine & without attitude. I ordered a beer, no glass offered. The two men sitting one seat away from me, however, were given glasses immediately without having to ask. You get the gist here. It was as if my presence at the bar was an annoyance to him. I, once again, had to get his attention to order my food. He says "Go ahead". Not, what can I get for you, what would you like...at this point, I was a bit speechless at his rudeness (especially considering this is a tipping situation LOL), so I didn't immediately answer him, and he barks "GO AHEAD" at me again. Sigh. The kicker here is, when I got my food, and then finished it, and then finished my beer, and then finished my soda...he disappeared for 20-30 minutes. Now, I'm not exaggerating here...he literally disappeared. Without a word. No one else came up to me, checked on me, anything. I just wanted to pay and leave, and even THAT was too difficult of a task for this dude to take care of. Unbelievable. If you want to get treated like shit at a restaurant, make sure to stop by El Compadre's bar on a Sunday, and maybe you'll encounter this douche. read more

Very nice atmosphere. Traditional decor, dimly lit and lots of u shaped booth seating. Outdoor patio seating in the back. They have mariachi bands in the evening. I went for lunch and they have a large selection if tequila and beer. You start off with fresh chips and salsa (it's bottomless). Had potato taco with rice and beans. The portions are good. The service was excellent. Parking in West Hollywood can be a challenge. They have parking in the back (20 spots) during lunch it wasn't bad. During the evening I hard that they get packed and parking can be a challenge. read more

When we told them about our concern, they replied that people were not supposed to wait there and that it's too much hustle to move us. We said ok. Minutes later new people showed up to stand by the hostess table. I didn't wanna make a big deal because it was my friend's Birthday. Btw they checked temperature of one party only and no one else. As a healthcare employee I find this establishment to be very irresponsible and it makes me mad. The food was bad too. This used to be our favorite restaurant when we lived in Hollywood. Last night the food was blend. Server was also kinda rude as he was taking our order because we had questions. In conclusion, El Compadre will charge you $20-$30 per entree and won't provide safety, or good service, or food. Hope to survive after yesterday's dinner. read more

This place was a disaster tonight. The only redeeming things for me were the pina colada, chips, and beans. Other than that no. It took like 10 minutes for us to get water and chips and the person giving us our chips and taking our drink orders didn't understand what we were saying at all. Our server was not the best either. He didn't even write down our order which is red flag number one and it took forever for him to take our food order. The food was not great at all. I got 2 shredded beef tacos which were cold. The cheese was soggy and the beef was flavorless and greasy. So gross! The server forgot my side order of beans but when we reminded like 5 people about it I finally got them when I finished our tacos. To top it off, the bathroom situation was horrendous. The bathroom was so small and crammed and one of the toilets didn't have a toilet seat. I also hit my head on the door because the bathroom was so damn small. Also shoutout to our server because when we got the bill and we were charged wrong for something he yelled at my mother in a demeaning tone. Classy. Everyone working there was rude, aggressive and openly racist to my friend. We had a reservation for 8pm and they sat us down at 8:30 because they were "deciding where we could and couldn't sit" even though there were 3 empty tables available. They charged us double for drinks. And again refused to serve my friend when she showed her ID AND passport. There was no reason to not serve her and the rest of our party wasn't interrogated at all. She was singled out. We had ordered food but we were so upset by the treatment we left without eating... DISGUSTING !!!! this restaurant should be shut down. Decided to visit the restaurant Saturday got there early around 5 o'clock.I had four other friends joining me. Two of my friends are very tall and one just had hip surgery my friend and I came to the restaurant a bit early so we could get a booth that would seat the five of us comfortably and there were 2 empty large booths, the hostess her name is Gabby told us that we could not have the either one of the large booths because one was reserved.When I asked her, my friends had called in the morning to make a reservation and they were told they weren't taking reservations, so she put us in a smaller booth which was not comfortable for the five of us. And again I told her that our friend had just had hip surgery and he is over 6 feet. The large booth that we wanted to be seated at they had put three people there. We told our waiter Eduardo about our situation and he was very nice to wait for a party that was leaving in one of the wider booths and moved us there. Thank you Eduardo for helping us. Secondly, the food tasted burned and looked messy as if they put a bunch of leftovers on the plate. Our total was $380 for that garbage food. That may be a bit naive and a rush to judgement based on how many drinks you've had before and after your visit. We drove over 2 hours as part of our quest for authentic Mexican food. We arrived but had a difficult time locating the entrance as it was in the back of the bldg. But there is a front entrance but there is NO sign. One star deducted as it was inconvenient today the least. Ambiance is a Mexican theme; a bit too dark so it was hard to see the menu and the food we were eating. We sat in an area that was very cold and asked to move to the front where it was a bit warmer. The hostess said that since we were already seated we couldn't move as the server would lose her ticket? Two stars deducted. Chips and salsa served was average. I ordered the Pollo a la Plancha. Not sure what I ate, thought it was duck but I fought with this piece of meat with my fingers as it was mainly bone. No flavor! They added beans and rice that sat most of the day. Overall it Wasn't at the highest level of Tastiness. Three stars deducted. I can't speak for my wife who said her Carne Asada plate wasn't memorable. Our Waitress was good but forgot the tortillas. With all that said, a second visit is not in order and if you want authentic Mexican food, this may not be the spot. El Galvan is up the street. read more

Check you credit card statement after dining here. Me and a friend went there for tacos and beers. The bill was 90.89. We paid by credit card with a ten dollar tip. The total was 100.89. Later I checked my credit card statement, and I was charged 108.89. I have no other way to explain this than to assume my server turned the 10 into an 18, and 100 into 108. I filed a dispute and the bill was adjusted. I'm sorry you didn't like my tip. But that is ILLEGAL. read more

Where do I begin. The food was poorly made. I want to have lunch with my mother and we ordered queso con chorizo as an appetizer. The cheese was hard to swallow i dam near chocked. For our main plates I ordered el padrino. chicken taco with rice and beans. The chicken has a funny taste as if it wasn't washed properly. My mother ordered Camarones Rancheros. Food was bland and the waiter took forever to bring the tortillas.By the time she got them her food was cold. The only good thing is the drinks. We made reservations for New Year's Eve WEEKS ago for a party of 10 people who are visiting LA for new years and ONE day before NYE the restaurant decided to call and tell me they decided they're closing 30 minutes after our reservation so they won't be honoring it. I've been to this location on a couple of occasions, and I urge you to take your business elsewhere. The servers are racist, rude, and incredibly unprofessional. They profile customers, and do not check in on tables due to their own prejudice behind who tips well and not. The blatant racism is apparent and there are better Mexican restaurants around the area. When I have attempted to raise any concerns to the management team, the servers lie and say they don't have a manager in duty. To test this, I have called the restaurant while sitting inside and get in contact with a manager only for them to deny any help and hang up. I like this restaurant. The food isn't exceptional but it's reasonably good and the vibe and service add a lot to the experience. MENU: Massive. As a pescatarian, I really appreciated having so many different options. FOOD: The salsa was really tasty. Ordered seafood tacos and ceviche. Both were pretty good. SERVICE: Friendly and attentive. They forgot to bring a beer at some point and immediately comped it upon realizing the error. Always appreciate that sort of response. Came here last night with my boyfriend and I had moderate hopes that this place would be decent based on the vibes and live mariachi band. When a different waitress came back later with our meals, she knocked over my water glass which spilled all over the table and on me. Her coworker quickly came by to dry the seats and table and she came by and apologized again later; it was just water so I wasn't too upset by it, but I was disappointed they didn't offer to take a drink off our bill since we waited so long for our food and I got drenched in the process.
