We absolutely loved this place! The food was amazing, the service staff were well informed on the special and the menu, and the outside seating is a perfect location to enjoy your meal. We had dinner there and the wait time was almost nothing even during dinner time though we ate at a Kansas dinner time, not sure when an LA dinner time is :-) Still enjoyed and would absolutely return and recommend.

Came here for happy hour snacks and drinks! La Popular is a Mexican restaurant with upscale vibes located on the second floor of the Ovation Hollywood mall. My friend and I asked to sit inside as it was a hot day out, but their patio is nice as you can see the Hollywood sign in the distance. We had lunch already and came here for snacks and drinks only, so it worked out we came during happy hour. HH is offered daily 3-6 pm and 9pm to close with both drink and food specials. It wasn't too busy, so there was plenty of seating available. I got the LP margarita for $9 and my friend got the chile pineapple mango margarita for $10. We also snacked on their chips and guacamole for $8.25. I really enjoyed my margarita. My friend didn't like his margarita that much, said it didn't have much flavor. He finished it and got one of the draft beers (lagunitas IPA) for $6. Guacamole and also the complimentary salsa that we got with the chips were both solid. It was great to have something to munch on as we were drinking.

I had low expectations for a restaurant in the middle of Hollywood, but wow was I surprised! I ordered the ahi tuna tostadas and added a ribeye taco, thinking the tostadas wouldn't be enough. They turned out to be decently sized! I also tried the Carrillo, which was amazing and bonus points for using real espresso. Service was great, and they validate parking for $3!

despite the restaurant being hopping busy we got a great table, waitress and food. the noise level is moderate and there is a disco ball but the lights are subtle. i enjoyed a spiritless drink made with grapefruit juice and Jon had a margarita. both were excellent. he got the colorado carnitas burrito plate while i got the street corn and beans/rice sides. salsa is delicious and chips are fresh. ok, off to the bowl. 20 min walk.

Stopped by La popular because I saw they had a salsa flight. And we love salsa! All of them were super flavorful I unfortunately could not eat the avocado one because I'm allergic to avocados. I ordered a Bloody Mary and returned it because it had zero flavor. So shy away from ordering that. But the waiter had no problem with replacing it with someone else I wanted. They out door patio area is the way to go! It's super nice outside and they have a fire pit. We ordered the combo plate (steak, chicken and shrimp tacos) and the queso Birria tacos. Everything was good! The staff was super friendly and food came out hot and fast! Will definitely be stopping back here for the salsa flight and tacos!

Came here on a whim and there was happy hour. The drinks were delightful. We ordered guacamole, ceviche, street corn and ahi tuna. All the food was delicious. Only weird thing we experienced was being there at 5:30pm, the restaurant was empty and we still had to wait 30mins because of reservations. We were just grabbing a quick bite since we were there for a comedy show at the Dolby theatre. So we sat at the bar and fortunately was able to move 10mins in.

Perfect ending for my night at the Hollywood bowl!! I realized that I had a major bout of munchies after enjoying the sublime and superior sounds of the LA Phil performing Tchaikovsky and Beethoven. So I stopped by La Popular and I'm so glad I did. There is a late night happy hour menu and a really nice patio that is the repurposed space of the old CPK that used to be here. Tamara on service went the extra step and made sure my queso FUNdido was loaded with chiles, and the pineapple mango margarita was quite tasty as well! Flour tortillas that came with had a nice char. Perfect ending to a perfect night. And bonus- your parking at ovation will be validated!!

Yay for La Popular! I had this place bookmarked and finally tried it today, leaving very satisfied. Hubby and I originally came for Happy Hour, but once we realized it was also DineLA, we opted for that instead. I grabbed their LP margarita and hubby had a couple of draft Modelos. For food, I had the guacamole and their Corn off the Cob salad with chicken. My husband had their Chicken Tortilla Soup along with a Chicken Burrito. The food was fresh and tasted great. Portions were size-able and their outdoor patio is nice. Service was great and I hope this place sticks around. I look forward to coming back for brunch!

Pretty good spot in Hollywood! The food was tasty, the atmosphere was lively, and the patio has a great view of the Hollywood Sign. Service was friendly and everything came out quickly. A little on the pricey side, but overall a nice place for a casual dinner or drinks.

We had a chance to try La Popular last month on a Saturday night before a great concert at the Dolby Theatre. This was my first time visiting the Ovation complex. I had not been to the complex since it was still Hollywood & Highland. I looked for dining options ahead of time and made a reservation for the relatively new restaurant. The evening was a rainy one, so we headed out to the restaurant early in case of extra traffic. Upon our early arrival, we were greeted by Nia. She was going to seat us at a high-top table, but when I told her that one of us had a recent back surgery and tall chairs were difficult, she seated us at a regular table which was very appreciated. Emirhan was our server, and he walked us through the menus and let us know that happy hour was available in the full restaurant, not just the bar. We ordered some items from the happy hour menu along with the regular menu. Throughout the night, the restaurant filled up with customers and the vibe was lively. Various staff, including Alejandro, were very attentive and made sure that we had what we needed. Although we didn't take advantage of it, we were intrigued by the tequila cart. Mia was managing it and let us know that it was available on Thursdays through Saturdays. We'll definitely keep that in mind for future visits. The food was good, and the service was excellent. We will definitely keep La Popular in mind for future visits when we are in the area.

By unexpected circumstances, I found myself at The Ovation (formerly Hollywood & Highland) at lunchtime on Sunday, and decided to try the relatively new Mexican restaurant, La Popular. It's a very well appointed venue that's nicely laid out, with an airy patio and a stylish indoor dining room boasting comfortable tables and bar seats for the taking. Kudos, too, on the unusual-but-very-appealing black utensils, which add an extra touch of the Dio De Los Muertos feel that's quite a bit of fun. I was alone, so opted to sit at the bar, where I was well-taken-care-of by Kelsey, a friendly bartender who made good conversation while getting me what I needed and doing prep for what she expected to be a very busy happy hour. Per their own invocation, the menu features familiar, popular Mexican (American?) items that are "an elevated take on straightforward dishes." This means that everything on the menu is something you can get at hundreds of other places around Los Angeles, yet we should be prepared to be wowed by the execution of said classics. Well, not so much. The brunch menu was still available, so I ordered the Breakfast Enchiladas, adding chorizo for a slight up-charge. I was served an artistically plated trio of enchiladas, nicely adorned with sour cream and guacamole, as well as green sauce. Inside the enchiladas were scrambled eggs, a tad of crispy chorizo, a touch of cheese, and lots, and lots, and lots of beans. These were essentially bean enchiladas "garnished" with the breakfast ingredients, which was quite disappointing. I deconstructed one enchilada and, when separated out, the egg, chorizo and cheese had a pleasant flavor -- but as presented, those 3 items disappeared under the overly-abundant beans and the thick corn tortillas. It didn't work. They also offer a breakfast burrito, and I wonder if the portioning of ingredients is more successful in that format. Overall, the experience was pleasant because of Kelsey and the generally lovely venue, but the food in no way lived up to their claims of "elevated" Mexican fare.

There were also seats at the bar but not enough for our group size. We came in for drinks and food before heading over to TCL Chinese Theatre. We ordered a few drinks and some shareables. The French martini was delicious- it had raspberry liqueur, pineapple juice and vodka. Very refreshing. The wild mushroom tagliatelle was phenomenal the pasta was just right and oh those delicate but powerful herbs, divine! The Japanese sweet potatos were so tender, the sauce that was one them was so yummy, I loved it. The steak & frites were scrumptious, steak was perfectly medium rare and fries were classic. The charcuterie board was so good we got the 3 cheese and 2 meats, everyone enjoyed it. The fresh baguette was crispy on the outside and so soft on the inside, only thing that could have made it better was a little balsamic. Overall wonderfully surprised by the lobby bar on a Tuesday night.

With dishes from Shirley Brasserie available all day, it's the perfect spot to enjoy everything from light bites to seasonal plates, surrounded by the warmth of the historic fireplace and the charm of this iconic setting." -- from The Roosevelt Hotel's website. Shirley Brasserie, the restaurant referred to above, is also located in The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel (located next to The Lobby). The "iconic" they refer to is the fact that this hotel is historic -- it was built in 1926 during the Golden Era of Los Angeles architecture. It is named after Theodore Roosevelt. The first Academy Awards (Oscars) was held here in 1929. The hotel had its ups and downs since then but currently it looks beautiful and thriving. Take your out-of-state visiting friends/relatives to this place. Because this is a big part of "Hollywood". I recommend The Lobby to hang out after a long day's work or after a nice dinner nearby. This is where my sister and I went after our dinner at Musso and Frank. My sister ordered their Espresso Martini which was really good. I had a beer. Our server wasn't as warm as the ones during my visit in 2023. I think she was an introvert or a bit of a nervous person. But she did not seem potentially horrible. Restroom: I did not go to the restroom this time. I think there was a line. But I remember back in 2023 that you had to ask for a key or a code. Which is understandable for this area. Parking: I recommend the valet parking. If validated, the fee is really reasonable (I forgot how much they charged). We got ours validated because we ordered those drinks from The Lobby.

The bad: The host was extremely unprofessional and un-accommodating of my family's request. She has black hair with a streak of grey/silver hair I believe. While we had 2 different 2 person reservations, we asked if we could sit together since I don't get to see my parents often now that I live out of state and it was my birthday. We understand this isn't a request that can be always accommodated, but we were willing to wait to sit together. The host said this was not possible and we accepted sitting at 2 different tables. When my parents were sat, we noticed an empty table next to them. My father then asked the host if we could move and she refused, saying she isn't sure if rid totally sanitized and it would take a very long time for it to be cleaned by staff. She then walked away from us while rolling her eyes and cussing under her breath while walking right past my table. Even my father noticed this!! We understood, but a minute later a staff came and fully cleaned the table. Our waitress came to introduce herself and we requested to be moved once more, and she said of course and had us move immediately to be next to my parents :) Big shoutout to her! Again, I'd understand if the restaurant was busy and packed, but after us I saw no one sat at the 2 person table we were initially sitting at and the entire restaurant was slowly emptying out with not many new parties coming in... The host seemed to have extreme anger issues and lack of professionalism that I would expect from someone who knows the availability of tables. Now, for the good: The restaurant itself is amazing with great ambiance. I want to thank our awesome waitress and other people working at the restaurant, truly everyone else was great! They were funny, welcoming, and very patient. The food was tasty and we loved the lemonades we ordered. I recommend the pastrami dish from their brunch menu :) I would definitely recommend coming here, but the host at the front who is supposed to "welcome" guests is clearly not doing her job well. It truly left a sour taste in my mouth and I'd likely turn back from the restaurant if I saw her as the host again.

We had a hamburger with a beer and the avocado BLT, which was especially good. The bartenders were friendly, talkative, and hardworking. This bar/restaurant was packed because of the FIFA soccer games yet my friend and I arrived as a table was leaving so we had to experience this cool place. Tribute Hollywood has several televisions, lots of high top seating and a bar with hanging plants right in the middle of the space. The menu has lots of delicious food and drink options. It was happy hour so my friend and I ordered several things to share. You order at the bar. The two bartenders were working hard making amazing drinks very fast and taking food orders. We got a number and sat back down with our drinks. The food came out fast and hot. We got the chicken wings, fries, chicken quesadilla and fried veggies. Other cool things were: it's an open air establishment where the front windows are wide open and later that afternoon some television went to the Knicks game! Go Knicks!
